Did say our was taken out by pg e an hour before before it started as part of the rolling blackouts heres new video that we shot about 10 minutes ago. Its about 2 miles from my loca, thisrea so remote that theres no cell signal or internet but we were able to get video of the cars all lined up on the side of the road, some of them were sleeping because they were able to leave the Evacuation Center in kron 4 Sarah Stinson is at the Evacuation Center. They came back here thinking they would be able to go directly to their homes but because the fire, its still going that it was still on board early fashion to return. Those people back to their air areas there are many other homes that still evacuated and re n allowed to return as the fire still is burning despite being 70 contained but those people when you can see all all those cars all lined up there happy to return to their homes after fleeing in the middle of the night let me pull up a map for you just say you know this location this fire happen at merrill circle north and near sander ranch ad near that area about a mile from Saint Marys CollegeSaint Marys College for a while they thought that could be in jeopardy. It appears that its not in jeopardy. So nothing damaged at that university with no damage to the nearby homes as well as far as we can tell from cal fire. They said once the sun comes up in about an hour from now theyll be able to clearly check whats going on. The conditions were a little bit breezy in the overnight hours fire spokesman told me it was going about 15 Miles Per Hour little breezy but not be out of the ordinary as far as the wind conditions, but yes it did push the fire along that ridge line and its a very dry area. The fire went to the left of the ridge line and to the right so they raced downhill. And thats why they were forced to evacuate us people in the middle of the night. They got the robo calls to get out many of them were prepared, they know this is fire season. So we dont hear but he injured from the fire are injured russian out from the scene as far as the cause again they just simply dont know at this time, but the good news is along sander ranch road thats where we got the video. Those people allowed to return and they you know it the middle of the fight james and darya they actually knew. But they did have this fire pretty much handled. Canceled some of the bulldozers that were heading to the scene and now is just a foot battle between that and the people on the ground and the fire at this time no call for air support at least just not yet. I think you will what a night what a nice people right lose power, they get evacuated now to go back in still dont have power and. And its windy and it is yeah. Now the good news of course is there more more than theyre getting more they can go back home right been a big improvement because who knows how long they have to stay away at the fire any worse than it was lets go to kron Sarah Stinson shes at the Evacuation Center right now good morning. Sir. Good morning thats right and still live here at saint monicas Catholic Church and people are excited to go home theyre obviously tired they had so much adrenaline pump pumping when they were rushing out of their homes when they got their homes they all saw that blaze that far fiery look in the sky and those embers falling. People tell me tt theyre just grateful and honestly surprise that no homes or burned down. You can see in the video i mean that the flames were just wrong. So close to burning down homes that have burned down several fences. And one woman you know she said she cant believe. Firefighters and the Police Department and the red cross they all responded so quickly and the plan is in place they said that you know, we know s more than eveso anhing were for happened. Again. Have you any kind of disaster people raga say were definitely prepared now know what we can do better we know we did right but take a listen to one mother a woman who lives up there and Sanders Ranch and neighborhood and she describes. How shes feeling now going home. Honestly our emergency now are so amazing and the red cross spring into action and us. We learned so much experience we dodged right now youre looking at the. And we just talked to is the fire chief he tells us that the only people who cant go home right now are the go home right now are the peopl have a ton of fire trucks up and there and they want to make sure that everything they do believe that the threat is gone, but they want to wait til the sun comes up theyre still putting out some hot spots. They want to make sure that with this wind that we had nothing doesnt spark up. Again. Now here at the evacuation off saying really anybody sticking around dont know if theyre sitting in their cars theyre going to drive to maybe the area where they can get into the house eventually but i think people were just excited to hear that progress was made obviously 70 contained. And theyre ready to just get a home and get bed to their powerless home. But i think too worried about not having the power theyre just glad that they have a home at all. For now live in moraga Sarah Stinson kron 4 news, thanks a lot sarah. Yeah and lets get to and again thats the address of the. Evacuation center work. Sarah was for us this morning johns been following the forecast in the winds of course the key element here that were waiting to die down before we can get out of this high fire danger weather. Yeah, you know were still looking at high winds james, although not as high as they were at peak time last night you can see the vicinity of the merrill fire. Calmer winds than where they were earlier thats not to say theyre going to stay that way were still looking at potential of high winds well into the afternoon ahead of us. As for areas just to the east of the merrill fire rio vista Still Holding on to 23 mile per hour winds. Antioch at 19 Miles Per Hour black hawk in san ramon at 1618 Miles Per Hour winds of come significantly in the marine had winds, this is one of our breezier areas about 30 minutes ago still very breezy for the north bay yacht bill blake various up hope valujet, 22 Miles Per Hour. While sonoma 31 Miles Per Hour for your winds, a of fire danger remains very high extreme in areas in red across the north bay well into the afternoon today all of us susceptible to have that these are key areas up here in the north bay that crews are keeping a very close eye on. Now wind advisories. Those expire today at 03 00pm after which point you can steadily expect wind speeds to drop setting us up for what will be a weekend with much less than the fire danger than what the past couple of brought us red flag warnings those expire at 05 00pm today. Still in effect for most of the bay area, including the east bay, some parts of the peninsula in the mountains and then across the north bay too later today expect temperatures in the 70s much like yesterday, ive got more your forecast still to come so stay with us rob. All right. Thank you john the morning commute is picking up were checking in on the richmond sandra fell there heavy traffic on 5 wests leading up to the toll plaza your life it is growing. And its spilling back be on castro so. Do be prepared for some heavy traffic here from castro through the tolls and then after that its going to be great trip across the span, heres the bay bridge to commute 80 west and now you are officially backed up to the bottom of the maze but your drive time is still under 10 minutes excuse me under 15 minutes to make it in an off to fremont street. So that is good i do not have any alert or major crash is working but the shore freeway that number is on the rise 22 minutes from crockett oakland and youre still nice and smooth on 24 5 80 and the nimitz. Coming up in just a bit james. All right robin thank you very much at p g outage map and give you look at a different part of the bay. Where we are seeing those intentional outages this morning want to focus this time on the peninsula and then will make the tour down towards the south starting off in half moon bay, as we zoom in youll see theres quite a bit of that area now thats under this intentional Power Outages you can see the entire area, half moon bay. So a lot of those communities along the coast, but right up against the peninsula hills youre going to be dealing with that this morning now as we follow 2. 80 which you see right here further to the south youll see that a lot of these communities along 2. 80 are also being impacted by this woodside for instance as you can see dealing with that right now and that is kind of where were seeing most of these outages along the peninsula is not one o one and communities closer to the bay, its actually 2. 80 and all those communitat piethh up ainst the peninshills we go further to the south youll see Los Altos Hills also dealing with that sunnyvale cooper teen art, lets zoom in there because look at this half of cupertino. But its the western half of that right at your de Anza Community college where were seeing the power out extending down towards Stevens Creek and then as we follow the freeway down just a bit youll see that just to the south. Lets move the map up just a touch youre going to see weve got saratoga also impacted by this again mandatory power outage, heres highway 17 leading into the Santa Cruz Mountains, lets widen the shot a bit you may be surprised to see how much of the Santa Cruz Mountains and santa cruz itself are being impacted by these Power Outages widen the shot just a little bit and just look at the number of dots that are impacting. The Santa Cruz Mountains a Boulder Creek down towards santa cruz itself as we lift the map here just a little bit youll see weve got a lot of communities that commute into the south bay dealing with a lot of Power Outages and thats going to be problem for you if there are traffic lights out on 17 you already know how dark it can be traveling that stretch of freeway and how windy it is well with the absence of street lights that potentially could be a lot more dangerous for you this morning should be really careful if youre commuting in from the santa cruz area in to the south bay were going to be following different parts of this map throughout the morning again, this is our service to you because when a lot of people been trying to access this map and having difficulty with it getting to load. So while we have it up were going continue to give you different tours of it this morning. All right. Thanks a lot james alice continue our Team Coverage and go to one of those areas that lost power crowd Christina Tetreault is in the al alright dark residential neighborhood. And thats because they lost. Now yesterday there was a lot of changing information about this plant power outage, lot of people thought they were going to lose it around 8 oclock at night and then it moved to 10 oclock 11 oclock so many people here in alum rock area actually went to bed. And again will be waking up without it. City of san jose itself actually a series of press conferences yesterday, a lot of city officials came out saying that they were preparing their residents for this and that they very specifically are going to be opening up Different Community resource centers. If you yourself are out of power and you need help. You know for instance, even if its something as little as charging your phone obviously. These days and so those different centers, they do. Some water some necessities were going make sure we have a full list of all those over crime. Were dot com for you. County of sarah santa clara actually declared a state emergency because of all of these outages. Now because of the press just yesterday and because of the ever changing information very luckily, president were able to at least have a little bit of time to go ahead and get out fill up gas tanks and get some supplies that they needed you know at the Grocery Store what have you we actually did speak with people here in the area and neighborhood just yesterday and and we actually spoke to 14 yearold young girl who had mentioned herself the fear and stress that she has not only at age 14 preparing for this fight. Are you know what theyre feeling the burden of all of this something to also go ahead and keep in mind its very important to note. He is here in alum rock area obviously its residential there are no street lights and when it comes to traffic lights. Officials are saying if you do come across any type of street light, even if youre not here in san jose area or if youre anywhere across the bay. And it has no power. Hadnt read that as a fourway stop always yield to the person on the right and proceed with caution that was a big issue yesterday lot of the power just throughout the area. Public officials as well as. You know police and teach be there scene for to please proceed with caution when driving, especially neighborhoods like this. Comes your power coming back on foot hills are going to see different. Time periods rather that more commercially driven areas. So that is very much a change to the sound rock area. Have some ever changing information may take a a little bit longer prepared to come on here rather than again in. More commercial driven areas, were going ahead and keep you updated on that we actually just now are going to be heading to a press conference route starts right at 07 00am with the city of san jose going make sure to give you live updates with that as well so good and stay with us here on kron 4 reporting live in san jose, this unity run. Thanks christine assistant, crazy, you know one neighborhood in the dark like youre in the diet, park. Whats called your school by the way to the house so far schools are in session. I know theres been some boy going to do that well maybe i windows keep could be a seas are going to be working so luckily, its not that which is the saving grace with at least this stretch them. Okay, but we have i should mention that we have had various schools, reporting that theyre not going to be session and been some confusion as to which schools. Our art so just of abreast of the alerts coming from your particular kids schools, to be your best place to get the accurate in from national and the best place to get information about the whole area wide black. And usually the charge but were not charging so that everybody can get the information they need especially as a lot of people dont have atv to plug in right now. So kron ois the way to go get that. Back to some of that breaking news. Were following this morning. The fire in morocco as we said its 70 contained this morning. So thats the great news. Were going to keep you updated throughout the morning on a more the progress of firefighters are making out theres this right now is the only fire which seen break out in the middle of this high fire danger whether stretch that were dealing with job. Yeah and were still. Danger up until at least 05 00pm as far as red flag warnings go you can see most of the bay still let up in these advisories for much of the day ahead. Im talking what its looking like right where youre at have your forecast for the rest of the weekend just around the corner now still to come and were checking your commute through wannacry the camera froze on me, but you can see the slow traffic south out of 6. 80. And slowing go out of Pleasant Hill through wannacry picks up again the breaking news this morning. Following a situation out of morocco where we had a fire break out overnight about one in the morning or so while people were sleeping with no power dont forget the speech and shut off the power and thats when they got word that they need to evacuate. The good news is 70 contained and looks like its burning away from the of the neighborhoods that were threatened for a time so a lot those folks were evacuated to nearby shelter. Are being finally allowed to come back home with a fire fight not over as you can see with 70 containment they still have a ways to go to get full containment and the winds are still blowing the embers and that shot thats the worries this fire could spread as you said that neighborhood had just been plunged into darkness and then they had an hour later the fire break out. Joining up. Thousands of other people around the bay with no power thats thats that. I was prevented lee shut off by pg e plunging us so many more customers into the dark that this bay area blackout if you look at it through the Northern California and the central a area Agencies Service 2 Million People thats a lot to marry people and we dont know when the power is going to come back on yeah. So while those folks and right are going back into their homes now who knows when theyll get power back same with you you just a little last years last we have a better idea of when the winds will die down right, but that doesnt necessarily mean thats when the power will come back on because thats always up to pee jeannin and their crews out in the field least on the on the wind from the fire danger front. Youve been giving us a sense of when that might subside exactly yet whether can give you a rough estimate as to when but not really tell you exactly when because they said it just takes them going and checking the law having crews check all the lines so we could see tomorrow dead silent. Funders going and yet were still have because ill tell you as was driving out of my neighborhood this morning picked up while i was sleeping and i saw lots of little branches and things on the street in a
