(robin) a shooting sent east bay shoppers running at an oakland strip mall. one person was hurt ... and this morning ... the shooter is still on the loose. kron 4's ella sogomonian has more. sot: heard gunshot// "it was small but loud, a pop, real loud."shoppers scattered to the sound of a gunshot at this oakland plaza. it happened around 3 o clock at the foothill square shopping center off macarthur and 108than area people say is no stranger to this sort of violence.sot: heard gunshot// "it concerns me in this area, absolutely concerns me."a person was shot in the parking lot between a ross and shoe store.a kron 4 viewer called in saying she saw a man on the ground shot in the face with two running up to him crying, possibly a friend and brother who ran to help.police wouldn't give any details on the victim and had no mention of a suspect. sot: lt. rachael van slaten, oakland police department// "we've called out cid investigators with the oakland police department there is an ongoing investigation right now and really no further details can be released at this time." (robin)happening today ... people in oakland should be prepared for another day of limited city services because workers plan to strike again. though, progress could be made ... as both sides have agreed to meet with a mediator to try to settle the strike. almost 3-thousand city workers walked off the job last week to protest unfair labor practices. they represent public works employees, parking enforcement officers, head start instructors and early education teachers. both sides have agreed on the first year of the contract, at issue is the second year. s-e-u-i says the strike is not over wages, but over understaffing and cost of living concerns. oakland mayor libby schaaf says the city cannot spend money it does not have. going to have to layoff workers and that will make working conditions worse it will also reduce services to our residents.">(robin) s-e-i-u, which represents 2-thousand of the 3-thousand workers on strike, tells us ... the meeting happening today with a mediator is a small step in the right direction. (robin) the contract talks with the unions are now in their seventh month. follow kron 4 news for the latest updates throughout the day. (robin)also happening today ... the men charged for the deadly ghost ship warehouse fire will be back in court. derick almena and max harris are charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter for the fire in december of last year. prosecutors argue that they were negligent by creating a warehouse full of obstacles and flamable items. during the preliminary hearing last week, several witnesses who lived in the warehouse told the judge about their concerns living in the building. the purpose of this preliminary hearing is to determine if there's enough evidence for almena and harris to stand trial. it is expected to wrap up by wednesday. (robin) authorities are investigating what may have been a shooting on interstate 80 in san pablo. it happened just after three yesterday afternoon. a woman driving says she heard gunshots and that her cars rear window shattered along with the passenger side mirror. officers discovered bullet holes on her door and the back of her car. no shell casings were found at the scene. c-h-p has not released any information about the suspect or car they are looking for. (robin) a woman is dead after a hit-and-run crash in downtown oakland. it happened early yesterday morning near the corner of 14th and franklin streets. police say a woman in her 60's was hit while crossing the road. she later died at the hospital. police say the driver may have been speeding and that the driver may have been in a dark, four door sedan. (robin) a man is dead .... following a head on crash in hayward. it happened saturday morning on cypress avenue.officers say a man driving a black honda civic ... crossed over the raised center median and collided head-on with an oncoming white toyota rav-four. the female driver of the toyota rav-four suffered moderate injuries.the man in the black honda died. officers say it is possible the man suffered a medical emergency while driving. (robin) welcome back. checking in on your morning forecast. rebecca:high pressure will remain over our region most of the week. daytime highs will be warmer than normal and nights will be seasonably cool. no major hot spots. bay bridge wb 80 is less then 30 min from the maze to sf.. golden gat bridge drive time less than 30 min from 37 to the toll plaza. richmond bridge drive less than 20 min from the toll to 101 (robin) we are now learning the identity of the woman found dead in the water along a trail in the south bay. 23-year old chuchu ma was a software engineer at google. kron 4's ali reid has more. on a popular trail with lots of foot traffic, police say a bicyclist spotted the body of 23 year old chuchu ma in the water along the san francisco bay trail in sunnyvale. the google software engineer was discovered on thursday morning the same day she was reported missing in mountain view, where she lived.this is an aberration. something strange happened. this is a safe area.according to ma's linked in page, chuchu graduated with a bachelors in computer science from the univerity of texas at austin where she received a national merit scholarship in addition to multiple scholarships as part of the engineering honors program. she's been an engineer at google for a year and a half where she was also excelling. a main google and lots of subsidiary google campuses are within a mile of herein a statement, a rep from google tells us?"chuchu was an excellent software engineer in our developer product team. we are devastated to learn of her passing, and our deepest condolences are with her family and friends." ?police are being tight lipped about the details surrounding ma's death. it isn't clear if she was the victim of a crime if it happened there, or if the body was dumped at the scene. the sunnyvale department of public safety says as the investigation continues, they are awaitng the coronor's autopsy results. (robin) we now know the name of the woman who was hit and killed by a car in san franciso. police have identified the victim as yin ching tam of san francisco. the collision happened saturday afternoon on 19th avenue and quintara street in the citys sunset district. there officers say the driver of a blue toyota sedan hit tam who died at the scene. the driver is cooperating with police . (robin) in the south bay. a man is behind bars accused of committing multiple burglaries on december sixth... officers were called to an armed robbery at a gas station on stevens creek boulevard in santa clara. once at the scene officers found and arrested freddy reyes. officers also found an iphone reported stolen from a san jose burglary drug paraphernalia and two wallets. reyes was booked into santa clara county jail. (robin) hillsborough police have arrested a man they say kidnapped a child more than 20 years ago... authorities say southern california resident kevin lin kidnapped a nine-year-old girl back in 19-95. hillsborough police was contacted by los angeles area authorites ... who were conducting a follow-up investigation on lin. he was arrested friday on an active warrant in connection to the kidnapping case. lin is being held at the san mateo county jail on five million dollars bail. (robin) minimum wage is set to rise here in california on the first of the year. it will increase by 50 cents from ten-fifty an hour to eleven dollars an hour for large businesses. it will rise to 10.50 an hour for small businesses. governor jerry brown signed legislation last year that helps the state reach a 15 dollar minimum wage by the year 20-22 for large businesses. (robin)(boxes) human rights day kicked off the start of a year-long celebration of the 70th anniversary of the universal declaration of human rights.kron four's spencer blake was in san francisco as actor and humanitarian danny glover was honored. (reporter)danny glover is a san francisco native, and someone who regularly does work for unicef around the globe, so he was an easy choice for the human rights commission to invite as their honored guest.(pkg)you may know him from 'lethal weapon' or 'angels in the outfield,' but sunday actor danny glover was speaking as a philanthropistand somewhat of a historian on civil and human rights. "there's a history where art has always been a force used as a platform in which people could certainly provide information."art - one of his own platforms - is something he says provides the radical changes that have improved human rights.glover also talked a little bit about albert einstein's role in human rights.aside from studying the behavior of light and atomic particles, einstein was a co-chair of an anti-lynching campaign.human rights commission executive director sheryl davis says glover reminded everyone at the event that you don't have to be part of a huge movement to advance human rights. (robin)a convicted felon is behind bars in connection to a murder in martinez over the weekend.sheriff's deputies were called to santa fe avenue saturday night in unincorporate d martinez. they were told a person had been accidentally shot.they found a 58-year-old woman who died despite getting medical help. deputies arrested 47-year-old anthony shepard he faces murder and felon in possession of a firearm charges. according to the contra costa sheriff's office, detectives are still investigating and trying to understand the motive in (robin) in the east bay... we are learning new information about a fire that broke out at a duplex in concord. fire officials say it caused about 300-thousand dollars worth of damage. it started saturday night on deardorff lane. fire crews put out the fire in about 25 minutes ... rescuing six dogs. no one was injured in the fire. the cause of the fire is under investigation. ( darya ) hillsborough police believe they have solved a cold case... with the arrest of a man they say kidnapped a child more than 20-years ago. police say a southern california man -- kevin lin -- kidnapped a nine-year-old girl back in 19- 95. hillsborough police were contacted by los angeles area authorites... who were doing a follow-up investigation on lin. he was arrested on friday. lin is being held at the san mateo county jail on 5-million ( darya ) a woman is killed in a hit-and-run crash in downtown oakland. it happened yesterday morning near the corner of 14th and franklin streets. police say a woman in her 60's was hit while crossing the road. she died at the hospital. police say the driver may have been speeding. ( james ) the c-h-p is investigating a shooting along i-80 in san pablo. investigators blocked all lanes at san pablo dam road... shutting down traffic for hours. it happened just after three yesterday afternoon. a woman driving says she heard gunshots and that her car's rear window shattered along with the passenger side mirror. officers found bullet holes on her door and the back of her car. no shell casings were found. c-h-p has not released any information about the shooter or car they are looking for. i-80 is back open this morning. ( james ) happening today... the men facing charges in the deadly oakland ghost ship warehouse fire will be back in court. derick almena and max harris are charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. that's one count for each person killed in last december's fire. prosecutors argue that they were negligent by creating a warehouse full of obstacles and flamable items. during the preliminary hearing last week... several people who lived in the warehouse told the judge about their concerns living there. a judge will decide if there's enough evidence for almena and harris to stand trial. (james) in the south bay... we are now learning the identity of the woman found dead in the water along a sunnyvale trail. 23-year old chuchu ma was a software engineer at google. kron 4's ali reid has details. on a popular trail with lots of foot traffic, police say a bicyclist spotted the body of 23 year old chuchu ma in the water along the san francisco bay trail in sunnyvale. the google software engineer was discovered on thursday morning the same day she was reported missing in mountain view, where she lived.this is an aberration. something strange happened. this is a safe area.according to ma's linked in page, chuchu graduated with a bachelors in computer science from the univerity of texas at austin where she received a national merit scholarship in addition to multiple scholarships as part of the engineering honors program. she's been an engineer at google for a year and a half where she was also excelling. a main google and lots of subsidiary google campuses are within a mile of herein a statement, a rep from google tells us?"chuchu was an excellent software engineer in our developer product team. we are devastated to learn of her passing, and our deepest condolences are with her family and friends." ?police are being tight lipped about the details surrounding ma's death. it isn't clear if she was the victim of a crime if it happened there, or if the body was dumped at the scene. the sunnyvale department of public safety says as the investigation continues, they are awaitng the coronor's autopsy results. (darya) happening now -- if you check your mailbox on your way out the door, there may already be something in it. that's because as of today, the u-s postal service is making deliveries as early as 5 a.m. in parts of the bay area. for the next two weeks -- the busiest of the year -- carriers will make early deliveries from napa to santa cruz. officials say a total of 850-million packages will be delivered between thanksgiving and new years this year -- 100 million more than last year. (darya) minimum wage is set to rise here in california on the first of the year. it will increase by 50 cents.... from 10-50 an hour to eleven dollars an hour for large businesses. it will rise to 10-50 an hour for small businesses. governor brown signed legislation last year that helps the state reach a 15 dollar minimum wage by the year 2022 for large businesses. (james) in the south bay. a man is behind bars... for a string of burglaries and robberies. on december sixth... officers were called to an armed robbery at a gas station on stevens creek boulevard in santa clara. once at the scene officers found and arrested freddy reyes. officers also found an i-phone reported stolen from a san jose burglary... drug paraphernalia and two wallets. reyes was booked into santa clara county jail. (darya) we now know the name of the woman who was hit and killed by a car in san franciso. police have identified the victim as yin ching tam of san francisco. the collision happened sunday afternoon on 19th avenue and quintara street in the citys sunset district. the officers say the driver of a blue toyota sedan hit tam who died at the scene. the driver is with police . ( darya ) the largest and most destructive wildfire burning in southern california is expected to grow as it enters its second week. the thomas fire has burned 230- thousand acres in ventura county.(james) it's forced tens of thousands of people out of their homes... and it's destroyed nearly 800 homes and other buildings. the fire that started december 4 and is just 10- percent contained. the national weather service says gusts up to 40 mph are expected through the day. (james) sonoma county prosecutors have charged six landlords with price gouging . for spiking rental rates in the wake of the north bay wildfires. authorities say the six landlords... increased rental prices by over 10- percent...just days after fires erupted in october. one case claims a landlord actually increased the price of their property by 32- percent... from 26-hundred dollars... to 35-hundred bucks. it is illegal to increase prices for lodging...food.. .medical products...and building supplies by more than 10 percent in california...aft er an emergencty is declared. two of the cases will be heard in sonoma county suerior court on tuesday. (james) in the east bay... we are learning new information about a fire that broke out at a duplex in concord. fire officials say it caused about 300-thousand dollars worth of damage. it started at around on deardorff lane. fire crews put out the fire in about 25 minutes...rescuing six dogs. no one was injured in the fire. the cause is under investigation. (darya) two men delivering water in lodi ... become heroes ...after they ran into a burning house to save people who were trapped inside.here you can see them on video ... running into the burning home. the people inside were able to hear the two men coming to the rescue.first-- a badly burned teenager emerged from the smoke. the two men pulled her from the floor to the front yard ... before going back in to rescue the rest of the family ... including a baby.
