(robin)happening today ...jury deliberations will continue in the kate steinle murder trial.. so far, the jury has deliberated about 20- hours. (áááboxesááá)jose garcia zarate is charged with murder. however, the jury has the option of first degree ... second degree murder ... involuntary manslaughter ... or not guily. garcia zarate's lawyer says, he should be found not guilty on all counts ... since he believes garcia zarate found and accidentally shot that gun ... killing kate steinle. (robin) a seven- month old baby is in serious condition this morning ... after being hit by a car while in a stroller. it happened yesterday afternoon in san pablo .. near el portal and mission bell drives. police say a car hit a mother pushing the infant in a crosswalk. both were taken to the hospital. investigators say ... the driver is cooperating with police. (robin)in other bay area news ...police say a woman helped them catch her husband ... who's accused of having child pornography. he pleaded ánotá guilty in a san mateo county courtroom. kron4's terisa estacio has more. matthew coda entered a plea of not guilty this afternoon, in a san mateo county courtroom he remains in custody as the case against moves into high gear (video)coda was arrested monday evening at sfo and now facing felony charges of being in posession of child pornograhy, a felony with a maximum prison sentence of 5 years and sex offender registration for life. this case started to unfold back in september when authorities say coda's wife tipped them off - after coda admitted he had a prior conviction of child pornograpy. the couple ws in the process of adopting a child. this is prosecutor karen guidotti. karen guidotti. at that point, she became concerned that he was still involved. she hired a tech person, they found many files. detective salvador zuno. it took a lot of courage, she is a hero. detectiive salvador zuno says at the airport, they confiscated 3 electronic devices from coda.. and are now seeking a search warrnt to pick them apart for any other images of child pornography. kron four news looked into coda's background and found that he states on his linked in account he is a consultant helping start ups engage with the federal government also, that he is a volunteer at the san mateo county library, reading to children. a library spokesperson tells kron four news that coda went through a criminal background check.. and there were never any complaints concerning coda. detective. we did some investigating yes, there is more that could be out there. we are hoping through your story we can find out more. coda is back in court in a few weeks. in san mateo, terisa estacio (robin)in an unrelated case ... this man has also been arrested ... accused of being in possession of child pornography. the suspect is jeremy marney from fairfield.police served a search warrant at his home on bel air circle yesterday morning ... after being alerted that the suspect may have been sharing child porn. .(robin)an update to a story we first brought you yesterday morning.investigators say a former san leandro police officer ... charged with statutory rape ... admitted to having sex with a 17-year-old girl. former officer marco becerra met the girl while he was working in the department's explorer program. the program is supposed to give teenagers an advantage if they want to start a career in law enforcement. the 26-year-old resigned last month after confessing to the relationship. becerra pleaded not guilty three weeks ago to three felony counts of unlawful sex with a minor. his attorney says the relationship was consensual. (robin)(boxes) after the north bay firestorm hit ... thousands of bay area residents stepped up to help... and to donate money. this morning ... kron 4's spencer blake looks into how millions of dollars in donations are being used. (reporter)right now the question is less of which organization will distribute money to what needsand more of looking and the timeline of needs - who will spend money on the three stages of relief, recovery, and rebuilding.(pkg) the devastating north bay fires happened seven weeks ago, but they're still fresh on everybody's mind in the bay area..collectively, various fundraisers, like the kron four telethon with the salvation army, for example, have brought in 50 million dollars to help fire victims. "what we have to do with all of that generosity is assure that we are spreading it out over what may be a number of years."elizabeth brown, president of community foundation sonoma county, says in most disasters, 75 percent of funds raised come in immediately, and are given out immediately.that's part one of the timeline - relief.the north bay fire relief fund, for example, raised 22 million dollars, and plans to spend áall of that money by may 31st. that's about the time that other groups will just ábegin spending their money for the mid-term phase, or recovery. "you don't know yet what you don't know in some ways, and you have to be patient and learn what really your long-term strategy will be." think of it this way - tipping point community raised 17 million dollars through the band together benefit concert - and just announced another concert coming up on the 14th, because the fires are still so recent.but if organizations were to run out of relief money too quickly, it would be virtually impossible to have a successful fundraiser, say three years after the fires happened.around that time, these nonprofits will be trying to help with things like mental health."this was really a collective, traumatic experience, and i think things like post-traumatic stress - you don't see that immediately, so that's one of the things i think we're going to need a lot of mental health support for the victims of the fire."brown says the meeting today was a good first step in laying a strategy for distributing all the funds. a new plan to introduce a bill that would change last call in california from 2 a-m to 4 a-m. a similar bill failed to pass the legislature earlier this year.kron 4's charles clifford has the details on the latest effort. natslast call in california has been 2am for decades. but state senator scott weiner believes that one size fits all rule is outdated and that there are real financial and social benefits to moving closing time to back 4 a-msot night life if part of our culture. live music, dancing, this is part of who we are. it also generates an enourmous number of jobs, middle class jobs, where people can afford to raise their families so we should support that sector. after weiner's first attempt at changing the law, sb 384 , died in committee earlier this year , the senator reworked the plan. including making one key change.sotthis time we are limiting it to the six cities who expressed interest in going past two a.m.those cities include san francisco, oakland, sacramento, west hollywood, los angeles and long beach. if the bill becomes law, those cities would be able to decide for themselves how the 4 a-m last call would be implemented. the bill also requires that cities develop public safety and transporation plans and to get approval from state regulators.sotthere are so many safety valves in this legistation that we wanted it to be done safely and professionally. in san francisco's cow hollow a neighborhood with an active night life, the plan was met with skeptical support from neighbors.soti think it's a good ideasoti think it's a good ideasoti don't think speaks out about the infamous mass murderer and cult leader. manson died in prison last week after spending 46 years behind bars. kron 4's ali reid reports. pkghe had the power to scare the hell outta yaformer prison administrator edward george got to know charles mansen on a personal level during his years at san quentin.he liked the reputation of being the most evil guy in the world, the most dangerous.george took the time to get to know the man behind the evil. we kinda created a bond where i kept trying to figure out why he did what he did.he says even while in prison mansen was manipulative.things that were borderline to approve, i'd say let him have it so he could tell me more about the family and people that were in the family.in 1971, mansen was convicted of 9 murders, and sentenced to death along with 4 of his followers which was downgraded to life when california banned the death penalty. while getting to know mansen, the former counselor says he spoke to at least 5 psychiatrists that told him mansen was by no means crazy he's just an evil guy. a sociopath. that was the diagnosis.the killer threatened to butcher george a number of times, saying he had family on the outside that would carry out the deed. the former counselor said he blatantly ignored the threats. but not all the officers in the prison unit did.they didn't want to stay in the unit. he threatened them and said he had people out there that would kill them and their families, and they transferred. over the years, mansen wrote edwards hundreds of letters to stay in touch. the two men had a bond, where they even took photos together. edwards wrote a book on mansen after retiring.i could never fathom how he could do that. except he had that charisma.standup george stopped taking mansen's calls about 3 years ago saying with multiple calls per day from the convicted killer, it was starting to get extremely expensive.reporting live from vacaville (robin) in national news ...after fears a serial killer could be on the loose in florida. police say they've made an arrest in four murders in seminole heights.the suspect is howell donaldson ... a man who worked at a mcdonalds.. apparently police received a tip ... after donaldson reportedly asked a manager to hold on to a loaded gun for him.he has been charged with four counts of first degree murder.it has been 51 days since the first murder in the neighborhood. (robin) and police in reno have shot and killed a man... who opened fire at a high rise building.it happened last night. reno police say no one was hurt. the building is the "montage" which is right downtown ... shots were reportedly heard for about 20 minutes. (robin)happening now ...police are trying to find this man with a very distinct skeleton face tattoo. he escaped a prison work crew in san joaquin county on monday.his name is cory highes. he was serving time on weapons charges ... and was scheduled to be released in february. he was last seen in stockton. (robin) breaking news ... today show anchor matt lauer has been fired from n-b-c after complaints of inappropriate sexual behavior. n-b-c released a statement saying they received the complaint on monday and they have reason to believe there were more incidents. they have not released any specifics about the complaint. lauer had been the anchor of the today show for more than two decades. just last week, cbs news fired one of its own morning anchors, charlie rose, after a report in the washington post chronicled years of sexual misconduct. (robin)people in the south bay being warned to keep their cats inside ... after two cats were shot in the head with arrows. as kron4's dan kerman reports ... the vicious attacks happened in san jose's willow glen neighborhood. catowners who live at san jose's willow glen creek apartment complex are becoming a bit more protective these days. sot kate kimball/cat owner 06-11it's scary to know someone is walking around with a bow and arrow shooting animalsthis disturbing image shows a feral cat with an arrow lodged in its head. the cat was discovered near this apartment complex back in october sotlike that's just wrong.. it makes me sadthis cat survived but a week ago, another cat, this one that lives in one of these apartments also was shot in the head with an arrow. sot capt. jay terrado/ san jose animal services 31-38we're very concerned because we don't know what's going to happen next is it going to be a cat is it going to be a person?the second cat also survived but it prompted a resident to post notes around the complex warning others of what's happening.. san jose animal services says both arrows have the same characteristics so the two incidents may be connected. sotsomeone is intentionally doing this to these cats so that's part of our investigation trying to figure out who it is and how to prevent anymore cats from being harmed.standup dan kerman /san jose 104-114those who live in this complex tell us it has been vandalized several times in the last month, they don't know if that's related to the cats. in san jose, dan kerman, kron 4 news. (robin)in an unrelated case... an animal cruelty arrest has been made in fairfield.. this is the suspect -- keith hebert.he is accused of killing a kitten. the investigation began when police received a call from a local animal hospital regarding a weeks old kitten ... that was dropped off with significant trauma. that kitten died of its injures. officers say, they were able to connect hebert to the crime ... based on witness statements. (robin) more than 150 people are still without gas this morning ... after a gas leak and explosion in san francisco. it happened monday near mission street and interstate 2-80 ... in the bernal heights neighborhood. (áááboxesááá) the fire department believes that the explosion came from the garage on the lower level of a three story house. it blew out the windows of the house and the garage door. 8 people lived there but nobody was home at the time. most of the people without gas are on the east side of the 39-hundred block of mission street. crews are still trying to figure out the source of the leak. (robin) the san francisco board of supervisors approves marijuana regulations. the decision came down late last night. the move will allow adult use of cannabis starting in january - when the state law kicks in... coming to an agreement on pot regulations has been a controversial topic in the city.. the supervisors defeated measures that would have restricted the use of cannabis... including buffer zones of 1,000 feet from schools and daycares. (robin) the san francisco board of supervisors also voted to reverse the sale of a street that was sold at auction. presidio terrace -- was put up for auction after the homeowners association did not pay the tax bill. the street sold for 90-thousand- dollars.. the homeowners in that neighborhood filed a lawsuit once they found out their private street was sold. according to their attorney - the tax was only 14- dollars a year. (robin) happening now... two men are recovering from their injuries... after a stabbing in san francisco. it happened monday night on portrero avenue... near san francisco general hospital. police say, two men in their late teens approached the victims and got into an argument. the attackers left the scene... and returned with a third person. one of the attackers stabbed both of the victims... before running away. police say, one victim is suffering life- threatening injuries... while the second victim is expected to recover. the attackers are still on the loose. (robin) police in mountain view are looking for a man who fired shots into the downtown area. it happened around two sunday morning near villa and castro streets. witnesses say a man was inside a burgundy toyota tundra and fired shots into the air. police say they found shell casings at the scene. they are not sure if this is related to a fight. (robin) coming up next on the kron 4 morning news ... find out what's slowing the removal and dropoff of debris from one area devastated by the north bay (robin) and here's a live look outside... at the embarcadero. )in the north bay ... the central sonoma county landfill is very busy ... as cleanup continues following the north bay firestorm.s kron 4's gabe slate spoke with truckers ... who have to wait in line for hours. take a look at this video.. this is when i was driving up to the entrance of the central sonoma county landfill off mecham road in petaluma. a mile away trucks were lined up waiting to get in. the landfill had aroudn 100 trucks a day come in before the fire now they are getting over 500 a day. from open to close these trucks are bringing ash and fire debris from the north bay fire clean up some days bringing as much as 5,000 tons of fire waste. sots of truckers - each of the over 5,000 homes in somoam county that burned down contains an estimated 200 tons of ash and debris. this daily backup has made it hard for regular locals who want to dump items.. they are gettign stuck in the same line that the big dump trucks are in. the lanfill run by republic services told me they doubled their staff and extended their hours and they are moving these trucks in and out as fast as possible. the landfil management told me part of the problem is fema requiers special tidious paperwork be filled out for each truck carrying fire waste as it comes in and leaves.. the landfill and the truckers are asking for everyone's patience because this clean up effort will take months this is just the beginning. sots of truckers - the north bay fires have created the biggest fire debris clean up in california history this will be a marathon, not a sprint in petaluma gabe slate kron 4 news (robin) coming up on the kron four morning news... the teen accused of killing an 8-year-old girl in santa cruz was back in court.we'll give you the latest on the murder of maddy middleton after the break. (robin)in a big story we are following ... the teen accused of killing an 8- year-old neighbor in santa cruz ... is being charged as an adult. adrian gonzalez was in court yesterday. detectives say gonzalez lured 8-year-old maddy middleton into his apartment back in 2015... and raped and murdered her. defense attorneys say they plan to appeal the judge's decision to try gonzalez as an adult. they believe he can be rehabilitated. the prosecution disagrees. (robin) gonzalez will be back in court in february. (robin) as republicans fight to pass tax reform --- the children's health insurance program or "chip" ... is running out of money. more than 2 million children in california are covered through chip. but several states will run out of money by the end of the year or early next year...if nothing is done. congress missed a september 30-th deadline to extend funding for the program. now about nine million children across the country could lose their health insurance. by taxpayers, to take it away from children is damn near criminal. > (robin) a senate committee has passed a bill to fund chip... but leader mitch mc-connell has not put it on the senate floor. if passed ... it would extend funding for five years. ( james ) and in fairfield... this man has also been arrested accused of being in possession of child pornography. he is jeremy marney. police serv a search warrant at his home after being tipped off that he may have been sharing child porn. .( darya ) another big story we are following... investigators say a former san leandro police officer has admitted to having sex with a 17-year-old girl. former officer marco becerra met the girl while he was working in the department's explorer program. the program is supposed to give teenagers an advantage if they want to start a career in law enforcement. the 26-year- old resigned last month after confessing to the relationship. becerra pleaded not guilty to three felony counts of unlawful sex with a minor. ( darya ) in the north bay... police are looking for a man who robbed a cellphone store at gunpoint in santa rosa. the thief went in to a boost mobile store on the 700 block of stony point road with a gun demanding money. police say the crook then fled the store with the money. no one was injured during the robbery. ( darya ) and an animal cruelty arrest has been made in fairfield. police say keith hebert is accused of killing a kitten. the investigation began when police received a call from a local animal hospital that a weeks-old kitten was dropped off with significant injuries. ( james ) the teen accused of killing an 8-year-old neighbor in santa cruz... is being charged as an adult. adrian gonzalez was in court yesterday. detectives say gonzalez lured 8-year-old maddy middleton into his apartment back in 2015... and raped and murdered her. defense attorneys say they plan to appeal the judge's decision to try gonzalez as an adult. they believe he can be rehabilitated. the prosecution disagrees. ( james ) gonzalez will be back in court in february. ( james ) more than 150 people are still without gas this morning after a gas leak and explosion in san francisco. it happened monday near mission street and interstate 2-80 in the bernal heights neighborhood. the fire department believes that the explosion came from the garage on the lower level of a three story house. it blew out the windows of the house and the garage door was blown off. most of the people without gas this morning are on the east side of the 39-hundred block of mission street. right now, crews are still trying to figure out the cause of the leak. ( darya ) the north bay fires have created the biggest fire debris clean up in california history... the removal operation has led to a daily traffic jam at the central sonoma county landfill in petaluma. and this has made regular non fire related trash dumps virtually impossible for the locals in the area unless they also want to wait in the long lines. the landfill closes at five p- m daily so most drivers are only able to do two fire clean up runs a day. part of the hold up is fema requires special paperwork to be filled out when debris and ash is dumped. bananas.>( darya ) management for the landfill tell us they installed a new cell in the summer so they will be able to take in all the fire ash and debris. they have doubled their staff and extended their hours to try to keep up with the constant demand. ( darya ) and another relief concert is being planned for victims of the north bay firestorm. this time-- the red hot chili peppers are going to headline. the concert is being put on by "band together bay area" they are the same organizers who put on the concert earlier at at&t park... with metallica headlining. the concert will be on december 14th at the bill graham civic auditorium in san francisco. tickets cost 100-dollars and go on sale on friday. ( james ) north bay police arrested two men for three burglaries but say they could be connected to many more. the sonoma county sheriff's office says the men may be linked to 20- other car and home burglaries this year. it was these surveillance pictures that helped police catch them. detectives say back on november 1-st the two were caught on camera searching inside a home. the owners reported more than 2-thousand dollars worth of items were stolen that day. police used the images to identify the men and later arrested them at their home. ( james ) in the east bay... police are searching for a specialized tricycle used for students with disabilities. the tricycle was purchased earlier this month by del amigo continuation high school in danville. sometime over the holiday break, someone broke into where it was stored and took it. the stolen tricycle has a small amount of white paint on the right seat. it also has a tendency to make a screeching sound when the left foot brake is applied. (darya) after the north bay firestorm -- thousands of bay area residents stepped up to help -- and donate. this morning - we are looking into how all those donations are being used.(james)the north bay fire relief fund alone has raised more than 23 million dollars for fire victims.. new tonight kron4's spencer blake went to find out how and when that money will be distributed.. (reporter)right now the question is less of which organization will distribute money to what needsand more of looking and the timeline of needs - who will spend money on the three stages of relief, recovery, and rebuilding.(pkg) the devastating north bay fires happened seven weeks ago, but they're still fresh on everybody's mind in the bay area..collectively, various fundraisers, like the kron four telethon with the salvation army, for example, have brought in 50 million dollars to help fire victims. "what we have to do with all of that generosity is assure that we are spreading it out over what may be a number of years."elizabeth brown, president of community foundation sonoma county, says in most disasters, 75 percent of funds raised come in immediately, and are given out immediately.that's part one of the timeline - relief.the north bay fire relief fund, for example, raised 22 million dollars, and plans to spend áall of that money by may 31st. that's about the time that other groups will just ábegin spending their money for the mid-term phase, or recovery. "you don't know yet what you don't know in some ways, and you have to be patient and learn what really your long-term strategy will be." think of it this way - tipping point community raised 17 million dollars through the band together benefit concert - and just announced another concert coming up on the 14th, because the fires are still so recent.but if organizations were to run out of relief money too quickly, it would be virtually impossible to have a successful fundraiser, say three years after the fires happened.around that time, these nonprofits will be trying to help with things like mental health."this was really a collective, traumatic experience, and i think things like post-traumatic stress - you don't see that immediately, so that's one of the things i think we're going to need a lot of mental health support for the victims of the fire."brown says the meeting today was a good first step in laying a strategy for distributing all the funds. (james) and another relief concert is being planned for victims of the north bay firestorm. this time-- the red hot chili peppers are going to headline. the concert is being put on by "band together bay area" they are the same organizers who put on the concert earlier at at&t park... with metallica headlining. this concert will be on december 14th at the bill graham civic auditorium in san francisco. tickets cost 100-dollars and go on sale on friday. ( james ) a big international story we are following....north korea says it now has a missile that can reach any part of the united states. north korea launched another missile test yesterday. this is video from previous missile launches. the missile was in the air for almost an hour before landing near japan. u-s intelligence agencies believe that the missile could hit just about anywhere... including the east coast of the united states. president trump says he is handling the situation. (darya) in national news...an alleged serial killer has finally been caught. tampa police say they've made an arrest in four murders that happened in one neighborhood. the suspect is howell donaldson who worked at a mcdonalds. tampa police received a tip from a mcdonald's manager about donaldson who went to work with a gun in a bag. that's when detectives were able to link donaldson to the murders. (darya) reno police have shot and killed a man who opened fire at a high rise building. the building is the "montage" which is right downtown. no one was injured in the shooting. police have not released any other details about the gunman or a possible motive. (darya) n-b-c released a statement saying they received the complaint on monday and they have reason to believe there were more incidents. they have not released any specifics about the complaint. n-b-c anchor savannah guthrie reacted to the news live on air earlier this morning. ( james ) lauer had been the anchor of the today show for more than two decades. (darya) new this morning... another former morning news anchor -- charlie rose has been stripped of some of his awards due to his sexual harrasment scandal. arizona state university and the university of kansas, have rescinded honors they gave the veteran broadcaster. rose is accused of sexual misconduct by eight women. ( james ) happening today... jurors will resume deliberations for the man accused of killing kate steinle in san francisco.( darya ) kron 4's lydia pantazes is live at the courthouse in san francisco this morning with the latest. ( lydia ) the jury will try to reach a decision in the trial for the man accused of killing kate steinle in san francisco. the jury has deliberated about 20- hours so far. jose garcia zarate is charged with murder. garcia zarate's lawyers argue that he should be found not guilty since he believes garcia zarate found the gun and it went off by accident. the prosecution says the shooting was intentional. happens they might not come to unanimous verdict. the longer it goes the more likely that will be an eventuality.> ( darya ) thanks lydia. we will check back with you through out the morning. ( darya ) in the south bay... police are searching for the person responsible for shooting a pair of cats with a bow and arrow. the cats were found at the willow glen creek apartments in san jose. one cat was shot in october and the other cat was shot just last week. both cats survived their injuries. san jose police are investigating the crime as felony animal abuse. (james) and an animal cruelty arrest has been made in fairfield. police say keith hebert is accused of killing a kitten. the investigation began when police received a call from a local animal hospital that a weeks-old kitten was dropped off with significant injuries. ( james ) the teen accused of killing an 8-year-old neighbor in santa cruz... is being charged as an adult. adrian gonzalez was in court yesterday. detectives say gonzalez lured 8-year-old maddy middleton into his apartment back in 2015... and raped and murdered her. defense attorneys say they plan to appeal the judge's decision to try gonzalez as an adult. they believe he can be rehabilitated. the prosecution, however, says the judge made the right call. ( james ) gonzalez will be back in court in february. (darya) more than 150 people are still without gas this morning after a gas leak and explosion in san francisco. it happened monday near mission street and interstate 2-80 in the bernal heights neighborhood. the fire department believes that the explosion came from the garage on the lower level of a three story house. it blew out the windows of the house and the garage door was blown off. most of the people without gas this morning are on the east side of the 39-hundred block of mission street. right now, crews are still trying to figure out the cause of the leak. (darya) north bay police arrested two men for three burglaries but say they could be connected to many more. the sonoma county sheriff's office says the men may be linked to 20- other car and home burglaries this year. it was these surveillance pictures that helped police catch them. detectives say back on november 1-st the two were caught on camera searching inside a home. the owners reported more than 2-thousand dollars worth of items were stolen that day. police used the images to identify the men and later arrested them at their home. ( james ) in the east bay... police are searching for a specialized tricycle used for students with disabilities. the tricycle was purchased earlier this month by del amigo continuation high school in danville. sometime over the holiday break, someone broke into where it was stored and took it. the stolen tricycle has a small amount of white paint on the right seat. it also has a tendency to make a screeching sound when the left foot brake is applied. (james) police in mountain view are looking for a man who fired shots into the downtown area. it happened near villa and castro streets. witnesses say a man was inside a burgundy toyota tundra and fired shots into the air. police say they found shell casings at the scene. they think this may be related to a fight that happened in the area. (darya) new this morning... a woman is recovering after a fire at a duplex in san leandro. it happened just before midnight last night on san rafael street. a woman had to be taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation but is expected to be okay. investigators are still trying to figure out how the fire started. (darya) a big story we are following this morning... small cracks have already appeared on the brand new concrete spillway on the orovile dam. federal regulators asked water officials to explain the cracks on the dam's new spillway. they said that steps taken to build a more durable spillwaycaused the cracksand that they were anticipated. however a california berkelely engineering professor says cracking in high-strength reinforced concrete structure is never expected. the spillway failed last winter forcing the evacuation of nearly 200-thousand people. ( james ) now that cyber monday is over... your packages will be arriving soon and that makes you a possible target for package thieves.( darya ) now police are offering tips on how to protect your packages. they say requiring a signature when getting a delivery... can stop potential thieves. ( james ) some other things you can do - schedule your delivery time when someone is home... or use an amazon locker. two women we talked with say, they shop online... but would never have a package delivered to their homes. ( darya ) during the holiday season some california police and sheriff's departments are teaming up with the u-s postal service ... to have deputies pose as mail carriers ... and deliver fake packages. and in the package there will actually be g-p-s system designed to track down thieves . no word on whether any bay area police departments will follow suit. (james) there is a daily traffic jam in the north bay -- but this one is not on the freeway. it's around the central sonoma county landfill where dump trucks come and go -- bringing in ash and debris from the north bay fire clean up. kron 4's gabe slate has the story. take a look at this video.. this is when i was driving up to the entrance of the central sonoma county landfill off mecham road in petaluma. a mile away trucks were lined up waiting to get in. the landfill had aroudn 100 trucks a day come in before the fire now they are getting over 500 a day. from open to close these trucks are bringing ash and fire debris from the north bay fire clean up some days bringing as much as 5,000 tons of fire waste. sots of truckers - each of the over 5,000 homes in somoam county that burned down contains an estimated 200 tons of ash and debris. this daily backup has made it hard for regular locals who want to dump items.. they are gettign stuck in the same line that the big dump trucks are in. the lanfill run by republic services told me they doubled their staff and extended their hours and they are moving these trucks in and out as fast as possible. the landfil management told me part of the problem is fema requiers special tidious paperwork be filled out for each truck carrying fire waste as it comes in and leaves.. the landfill and the truckers are asking for everyone's patience because this clean up effort will take months this is just the beginning. sots of truckers - the north bay fires have created the biggest fire debris clean up in california history this will be a marathon, not a sprint in petaluma gabe slate kron 4 news ( darya ) big news big news this morning. your child could soon be without health insurance. the children's health insurance program known as chip is running out of money. more than 2 million children in california are covered through chip. but several states will run out of money by the end of the year or early next year...if congress does not act. congress missed a september deadline to extend funding for the program. now about nine million children across the country could lose their health insurance. ( darya ) a senate committee has passed a bill to fund chip... but it must still be approved by the full senate. if passed -it would extend funding for five years.
