( mark ) breaking overnight... police in the south bay are looking for the gunman who shot and killed a man overnight in san jose.( darya ) kron 4's lydia pantazes has the details from san jose. happening now... police in the south bay are looking for the gunman who shot and killed a man in san jose. the shooting happened last night on elan village lane. police found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. he died at the hospital. his name has not been released. (mark) (mark) more breaking news from overnight... one person has died while in the custody of oakland police. it happened on foothill boulevard, near high street. at some point a taser was used on the person and that person died last night. oakland police say the death is being investigated by multi agencies--- including their internal affairs division and the alameda county district attorney's office. we do not know the name of the person who died or why police were responding to the scene in the first place. (mark) breaking overnight... a two story home goes up in flames in redwood city. this is a picture of the fire tweeted out by the redwood city fire department. the fire broke out on crompton road. there are road closures in the area. briarfield avenue is closed from westwood street to alameda de las plugas. there are no reports of any injuries from the fire. (darya) a warning for parents after police say a registered sex offender was found in a girls restroom at an elementary school... now that man is out on bail. it happened at redwood adventist academy elementary school in santa rosa. alan brelsford a 39 year old registered sex offender that currently lives in santa rosa. in 2006 he was caught exposing himself at an all girls school in sacramento. earlier this week he was found lingering in a girls bathroom at the santa rosa elementary school. the principal then confronted brelsford and escorted him out. later that day when sonoma county sheriff's deputies were at the school taking the report... brelsford returned to the school. he was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor. police are warning parents to be on the lookout for him. ( darya ) a 17-year-old girl was held up at knife-point in her home in rohnert park. police say a 17-year-old boy broke into a home on meadow pines avenue, thinking no one was home. the girl ran upstairs, locked herself in a bathroom and called police. officials say the intruder then broke down the bathroom door and held the girl at knife point. he then tried to run away but was arrested shortly after. the girl was not injured. ( mark ) in the south bay a former santa clara county probation counselor has been arrested on suspicion of having sex with two teenage boys while they were serving time in juvenile detention. 36-year-old tricia caparra was arrested at her home in santa cruz. she is accused of sexually assaulting the two teenage boys... at a santa clara county juvenile correctional facility. caparra is facing 17 counts of sexual abuse. (mark) a woman in rohnert park is accused of sexting a boy in arkansas. police arrested 21-year-old ashley zimmer after the mother of a 12-year-old boy found nude photos of an adult on her son's phone. police say zimmer met the boy on 'x-box live' last month and began exchanging photos on social media. zimmer has worked at y-m-c-a programs at richard crane elementary school in rohnert park. police are not sure if there are any other victims. (darya) a woman has been arrested in connection to a hit-and-run crash that left a three-year-old boy in critical condition. the hit and run happened tuesday on mcdonald avenue in richmond the boy was hurt when the driver of a red smart car hit the child and drove away without stopping. investigators learned that the car was not in the owner's possession at the time of the accident. the smart car was at a richmond auto repair shop for maintenance. police say the woman worked at the shop and took the keys to the car and went for a drive. this morning the boy is still in critical condition. the woman is being charged with felony hit-and-run. (darya) happening today... a funeral service will be held for a c-h-p officer who was killed in a motorcycle accident. officer james branik of san jose was riding his motorcycle tuesday morning on monterey highway in santa clara when he was hit by a pickup truck. branik's funeral will be held at the morgan hill community and cultural center at 2:30 this afternoon. it is open to the public. ( mark ) happening now... police in santa rosa are looking for the person who robbed a rite aid store at gunpoint. these are surveillance pictures of the robber. you can see him pointing a gun at the cashier. it happened yesterday afternoon at the store on stony point road. ( mark ) two women who escaped from a federal minimum security facility in dublin... are back in police custody this morning. after being on the run for nearly a month, police recaptured 37-year-old irene michell and 34-year-old anna armstrong. the two were in tijuana, mexico. both women had been serving prison sentences for drug trafficking. the women are now back in the u.s. and have been charged for escaping custody. (mark) just in to kron four... a warning from the u-s state department about americans possibly being attacked in cuba. the the state department is ordering u-s diplomats out of that country. now there is a warning about possible attacks on americans at hotels in cuba. this comes after several americans working at the u-s embassy were injured by acoustic attacks. at least 21 americans have reported getting sick in havana after these attacks. (darya) a central valley teenager is ordered to stand trial on charges that she was driving drunk while live- streaming a deadly crash. her younger sister died in the accident in los banos in july. this is what 19-year-old obdulia sanchez posted to instagram after the crash... but california needs more than a million affordable homes to meet demand. (darya) more than a week has passed since hurricane maria devastated puerto rico. millions are still without power... and some areas are in desperate need of aid. fema officials say they have handed out almost one million meals so far. but thousands of packages haven't even been delivered yet. they're stuck on the island's largest port because of a lack of drivers and vehicle fuel. (darya) yesterday morning... the white house authorized a temporary waiver of the jones act, which will allow more ships to bring supplies to the island. as for recovery efforts, the u-s army corps of engineers is vowing to rebuild puerto rico's infrastructure. (mark) breaking international news we are following this morning. at least 22 people are dead after a stampede at a train station in india. this is new video from the scene overnight. at least 30 people were injured and indian officials say the death toll could still rise. it happened on a foot bridge at the train station. indian officials are still trying to figure out what caused (mark) oj simpson could be released from prison as early as monday... after spending the last nine years behind bars. he was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping which stemmed from a 2007 altercation with sports memorabilia dealers at a las vegas hotel. he was sentenced to 33 years behind bars. but in july...four parole board members unanimously ruled the 70- year-old would be eligible for parole in october. (darya) u.s. health officials are warning this flu season could be a potentially miserable one. they're taking their cue from australia which has been hit hard over the past few months with a strain that's notorious for causing severe illness. it doesn't mean the same strain will hit the u.s. but health officials say it is a possibility. doctors are urging people to get their flu shots now. (darya) a pennsylvania mom is reminding others about the importance of car seat safety. take a look at this picture. the mother says her 2015 honda c-r-v was struck by another vehicle-- and her baby and toddler were inside. the car was a mangled mess, but her children escaped without a scratch. she said on facebook "this is why you buckle your kids into their car seats correctly every single time." paramedics credited her children's safety to the car seats... that were both rear- facing. the car seat brands are chicco keyfit-30 and graco 4-ever. ( darya ) kron 4 has reached out to bart about the problem. they have not yet responded to us. (darya) new video shows the moments before a deadly police shooting on interstate -80 in emeryville. now we are learning more about the man who was shot and killed by police. police say 45- year-old demilo hodge of san leandro was wanted for killing william freeman in fairfield in 2015. on wednesday, police tried to pull hodge over but he wouldn't stop. he then led police on a chase which ended a the macarthur maze near powell street. police surrounded the car and say they attempted to negotiate with hodge. but video shows him getting out of his vehicle and opening fire on police. officers returned fire, killing him. (darya) video showing the moments after a student was stabbed at a san jose high school. it happened at overfelt high school yesterday morning. two people are under arrest. the student is expected to recover. at least one of the attackers did not attend the school. (mark) police are on the hunt for a man they say carjacked a woman in petaluma in a school parking lot. it happened yesterday morning in the parking lot of mckinley elementary school. the thief approached a woman and demanded her keys. the man then threw her to ground before jumping in her gold toyota avalon and sped off. ( mark ) in the east bay... police in antioch have arrested a woman they say stole from elderly people at an assisted living center. it happened at the aegis senior community in moraga. police say antonique bryant and her accomplice shawn morris stole checks and credit cards from residents. the pair did not work at the living center. and this morning it's still not clear how they got in. the two suspects are believed to be involved in similar elder abuse cases in concord, berkeley, and marin county. (mark) a vallejo man has been charged with murder and attempted murder in connection to a shooting that left one woman dead and injured two others. 24-year-old jonathan santos was arraigned yesterday. santos was arrested shortly after a shooting march 30th in san francisco. the bullets hit and killed 65-year-old lian xiu wu and injured two men. police released santos a few days after the shooting as they investigated. he was re-arrested and booked into jail wednesday. ( darya ) health and human services secretary tom price is now opening up his wallet after he used private charter planes instead of commercial flights for traveling. all at the expense of taxpayers. price says he will write a personal check for a little over 50 thousand dollars for the travel expenses. price is promising to fly commercial from now on. this comes after criticism from president trump and others questioning the use of private jets instead of cheaper public flights. three cabinet members are now under investigation for their travel expenses. (darya) president donald trump's son-in-law and senior advisor jared kushner failed to tell the senate intelligence committee about a personal email account he used before and after the campaign.. that's according to a report this morning from cnn. kushner was questioned by members of congress earlier this month. kushner used the personal email account for official business. the senate committee is investigating russian interference in last year's election. committee leaders sent him a letter yesterday telling him to double-check to make sure he has turned in all communication s relevant to the investigation. (mark) just a day after republicans announce their tax reform plan... they are already battling it out with democrats on capitol hill. both sides say they want to help the middle class, but they can't agree on how to do that. the republican proposal would mean three tax brackets instead of seven. it would also cut the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent which republicans say will help the economy. but democrats say there's no proof that large corporations would create jobs or increase wages. they worry that ceo's would simply line their own pockets. (mark) it's likely the plan will change before it goes for a vote. republicans hope that will happen by the end of the year. (darya) the curfew controversy involving levi's stadium is heating up as the 49ers fire back at the city of santa clara. the stadium curfew requires weeknight events at the stadium to end by 10 p-m. if it goes past that, there is a fine. ed sheeran announced this week he was canceling his concert due to the curfew. now the 49ers who manage the stadium sent a letter to the stadium authority. they say they will not book any future concerts since it is not possible to ensure they end at 10p-m. the 49ers say a big concert can bring in up to 800- thousand dollars and the city benefits financially from the concerts. the city of santa clara has not yet responded to the niners letter. ( darya ) our top story at 8:30... bart riders say they have had enough of the filth on the trains.(mark) this comes after video surfaced showing a woman going to the bathroom on the train. this is a still image from that video. it happened on a train from pittsburg to san francisco. the man who took the video says he has seen this happen several times. other bart riders say they have seen similar incidents on other trains a well. ( darya ) kron 4 has reached out to bart about the problem. they have not yet responded to us. (darya) new video shows the moments before a deadly police shooting on interstate -80 in emeryville. now we are learning more about the man who was shot and killed by police. police say 45- year-old demilo hodge of san leandro was wanted for killing william freeman in fairfield in 2015. on wednesday, police tried to pull hodge over but he wouldn't stop. he then led police on a chase which ended a the macarthur maze near powell street. police surrounded the car and say they attempted to negotiate with hodge. but video shows him getting out of his vehicle and opening fire on police. officers returned fire, killing him. (darya) video showing the moments after a student was stabbed at a san jose high school. it happened at overfelt high school yesterday morning. two people are under arrest. the student is expected to recover. at least one of the attackers did not attend the school. (mark) police are on the hunt for a man they say carjacked a woman in petaluma in a school parking lot. it happened yesterday morning in the parking lot of mckinley elementary school. the thief approached a woman and demanded her keys. the man then threw her to ground before jumping in her gold toyota avalon and sped off. ( mark ) in the east bay... police in antioch have arrested a woman they say stole from elderly people at an assisted living center. it happened at the aegis senior community in moraga. police say antonique bryant and her accomplice shawn morris stole checks and credit cards from residents. the pair did not work at the living center. and this morning it's still not clear how they got in. the two suspects are believed to be involved in similar elder abuse cases in concord, berkeley, and marin county. (mark) a vallejo man has been charged with murder and attempted murder in connection to a shooting that left one woman dead and injured two others. 24-year-old jonathan santos was arraigned yesterday. santos was arrested shortly after a shooting march 30th in san francisco. the bullets hit and killed 65-year-old lian xiu wu and injured two men. police released santos a few days after the shooting as they investigated. he was re-arrested and booked into jail wednesday. ( darya ) health and human services secretary tom price is now opening up his wallet after he used private charter planes instead of commercial flights for traveling. all at the expense of taxpayers. price says he will write a personal check for a little over 50 thousand dollars for the travel expenses. price is promising to fly commercial from now on. this comes after criticism from president trump and others questioning the use of private jets instead of cheaper public flights. three cabinet members are now under investigation for their travel expenses. (darya) president donald trump's son-in-law and senior advisor jared kushner failed to tell the senate intelligence committee about a personal email account he used before and after the campaign.. that's according to a report this morning from cnn. kushner was questioned by members of congress earlier this month. kushner used the personal email account for official business. the senate committee is investigating russian interference in last year's election. committee leaders sent him a letter yesterday telling him to double-check to make sure he has turned in all communication s relevant to the (mark) just a day after republicans announce their tax reform plan... they are already battling it out with democrats on capitol hill. both sides say they want to help the middle class, but they can't agree on how to do that. the republican proposal would mean three tax brackets instead of seven. it would also cut the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent which republicans say will help the economy. but democrats say there's no proof that large corporations would create jobs or increase wages. they worry that ceo's would simply line their own pockets. (mark) it's likely the plan will change before it goes for a vote. republicans hope that will happen by the end of the year. (darya) the curfew controversy involving levi's stadium is heating up as the 49ers fire back at the city of santa clara. the stadium curfew requires weeknight events at the stadium to end by 10 p-m. if it goes past that, there is a fine. ed sheeran announced this week he was canceling his concert due to the curfew. now the 49ers who manage the stadium sent a letter to the stadium authority. they say they will not book any future concerts since it is not possible to ensure they end at 10p-m. the 49ers say a big concert can bring in up to 800- thousand dollars and the city benefits financially from the concerts. the city of santa clara has not yet responded to the niners (mark) add another company to the list. whole foods is reporting a credit card breach that could affect customers. the company says hackers got access to credit card information for customers at some of its in-store tap-rooms and restaurants. investigators say hackers targeted the machines where you swipe or insert your credit card. whole foods isn't saying what locations were targeted or how many customers may be involved. the company says it has contacted the f-b-i and they are investigating. (mark) more breaking news from overnight... one person has died while in the custody of oakland police. it happened on foothill boulevard, near high street. at some point a taser was used on the person and that person died last night. oakland police say the death is being investigated by multi agencies--- including their internal affairs division and the alameda county district attorney's office. we do not know the name of the person who died or why police were responding to the scene in the first place. (mark) breaking overnight... a two story home goes up in flames in redwood city. this is a picture of the fire tweeted out by the redwood city fire department. the fire broke out on crompton road around 10:30 last night. all roads in the area have reopened this morning. ( darya ) a woman in rohnert park is accused of sexting a boy in arkansas. police arrested ashley zimmer after the mother of a 12- year-old found nude photos on her son's phone. police say zimmer met the boy on 'x-box live' last month... and began exchanging photos on social media. zimmer has worked at y-m-c-a programs at richard crane elementary school in rohnert park. police are not sure if there are any other victims. ( darya ) a former santa clara county probation counselor is accused of having sex with two teenage boys... while they were serving time in juvenile detention. tricia caparra was arrested at her home in santa cruz. authorities say the abuse happened at the santa clara county juvenile correctional facility. caparra is facing 17 counts of sexual abuse. ( mark ) o-j simpson could be released from prison very soon.. the former football star's attorney says he expects simpson to be released a few days áafter sunday. simpson has been behind bars in nevada for the last nine years. he was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping which stemmed from a 2007 altercation with sports memorabilia dealers at a las vegas hotel. he was sentenced to 33 years behind bars. but in july...four parole board members unanimously ruled the 70- year-old would be eligible for parole in october. ( darya ) people in southern california are rallying around a man who is being taken away from his son and deported to mexico. his son has autism. gaston cazares came to the u-s when he was 16-years-old. but he was arrested in 20-11 when immigration officials raided the restaurant where he worked. since then, authorities have been granting him permission to stay each year because of his son's autism. but because of tougher immigration laws... they decided to deport him. activists gathered to protest the deportation. ( darya ) cazares will also be forced to leave his wife of 23-years and his two other children. ( mark ) a man who took down an armed robbery suspect in fresno in july is being honored by the fresno police department. this is surveillance video showing what happened. you can see cregg jerri taking on the robbery suspect at the starbucks. the robber was carrying a knife and a gun. the suspect, ryan flores, is now behind bars. jerri was stabbed in the neck during the robbery. jerri justgot an award from the fresno police. they say they are thankful for the man's actions in stopping the robbery. (ááá2-shotááá)( mark ) some parents dream about leaving their children and responsibilities behind.( darya ) but one mother in iowa actually did that by taking a trip to europe. erin macke (mac-kee) left two 12-year-olds, a 7-year-old and a 6-year-old alone in an apartment while she went to germany. macke did this after her baby-sitter fell through.( mark ) police found out about it from one of the child's fathers the day after she left. macke was going to stay in germany for ten days until police called her and told her to come back early. police say they have never seen anything like this before. situations where parents go next door, or parents may go out for the night, and while that's not advisable either depending on the age of the children, obviously leaving the country is a totally different situation.">( mark ) macke was charged with transferring a pistol or revolver to a person under 21. police say she left a weapon within her children's reach. ( mark ) actress julia louis- dreyfus has announced she has breast cancer. the emmy award winning actress announced the diagnosis in a post on twitter. ( darya ) kron 4 has reached out to bart about the problem. they have not yet responded to (darya) new video shows the moments before a deadly police shooting on interstate -80 in emeryville. now we are learning more about the man who was shot and killed by police. police say 45- year-old demilo hodge of san leandro was wanted for killing william freeman in fairfield in 2015. on wednesday, police tried to pull hodge over but he wouldn't stop. he then led police on a chase which ended a the macarthur maze near powell street. police surrounded the car and say they attempted to negotiate with hodge. but video shows him getting out of his vehicle and opening fire on police. officers returned fire, (darya) video showing the moments after a student was stabbed at a san jose high school. it happened at overfelt high school yesterday morning. two people are under arrest. the student is expected to recover. at least one of the attackers did not attend the school. (mark) police are on the hunt for a man they say carjacked a woman in petaluma in a school parking lot. it happened yesterday morning in the parking lot of mckinley elementary school. the thief approached a woman and demanded her keys. the man then threw her to ground before jumping in her gold toyota avalon and sped off. ( mark ) in the east bay... police in antioch have arrested a woman they say stole from elderly people at an assisted living center. it happened at the aegis senior community in moraga. police say antonique bryant and her accomplice shawn morris stole checks and credit cards from residents. the pair did not work at the living center. and this morning it's still not clear how they got in. the two suspects are believed to be involved in similar elder abuse cases in concord, berkeley, and marin county. ( darya ) health and human services secretary tom price is now opening up his wallet after he used private charter planes instead of commercial flights for traveling. all at the expense of taxpayers. price says he will write a personal check for a little over 50 thousand dollars for the travel expenses. price is promising to fly commercial from now on. this comes after criticism from president trump and others questioning the use of private jets instead of cheaper public flights. three cabinet members are now under investigation for their travel expenses. (darya) president donald trump's son-in-law and senior advisor jared kushner failed to tell the senate intelligence committee about a personal email account he used before and after the campaign.. that's according to a report this morning from cnn. kushner was questioned by members of congress earlier this month. kushner used the personal email account for official business. the senate committee is investigating russian interference in last year's election. committee leaders sent him a letter yesterday telling him to double-check to make sure he has turned in all communication s relevant to the investigation. (mark) just a day after republicans announce their tax reform plan... they are already battling it out with democrats on capitol hill. both sides say they want to help the middle class, but they can't agree on how to do that. the republican proposal would mean three tax brackets instead of seven. it would also cut the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent which republicans say will help the economy. but democrats say there's no proof that large corporations would create jobs or increase wages. they worry that ceo's would simply line their own pockets. (mark) it's likely the plan will change before it goes for a vote. republicans hope that will happen by the end of the year. (darya) the curfew controversy involving levi's stadium is heating up as the 49ers fire back at the city of santa clara. the stadium curfew requires weeknight events at the stadium to end by 10 p-m. if it goes past that, there is a fine. ed sheeran announced this week he was canceling his concert due to the curfew. now the 49ers who manage the stadium sent a letter to the stadium authority. they say they will not book any future concerts since it is not possible to ensure they end at 10p-m. the 49ers say a big concert can bring in up to 800- thousand dollars and the city benefits financially from the concerts. the city of santa clara has not yet responded to the niners letter. (darya) the golden state warriors have made good on their promise to pick up the tab for its victory parade earlier this year. but they aren't exactly happy with the city of oakland. the team says the city initially estimated the bill for the parade and ceremony would be around 300-thousand dollars. but the city then asked for more than one million dollars. according to the warriors that amount included a few hundred grand from the 20-15 parade festivities. the team has cut a check for nearly 800-thousand dollars. but the team says that most cities pay for celebratory parades, not the teams. oakland officials said in a statement that it appreciates the warrriors' sending the check. (mark) add another company to the list. whole foods is reporting a credit card breach that could affect customers. the company says hackers got access to credit card information for customers at some of its in-store tap-rooms and restaurants. investigators say hackers targeted the machines where you swipe or insert your credit card. whole foods isn't saying what locations were targeted or how many customers may be involved. the company says it has contacted the f-b-i and they are ( mark ) two rockslides in two days at el capitan in yosemite. one person has been killed and another is injured. take a look at this new video showing all of the debris. a family was driving out of the park when it poured into their sunroof. one of the rocks landed on a man inside that car... and fractured his skull. officials with yosemite national park say big rock pieces break off and fall several dozen times a year... but rarely injure anyone. the first rockfall on wednesday killed a 32- year old british man and injured another woman. it has been 18- years since the last rockfall- related death at yosemite. yosemite is still open but some roads are affected in yosemite valley. (mark) certain strollers are being recalled this morning because your kid could fall out of them . about 28-thousand "j is for jeep" strollers are affected. the company says there was four reports of the leg bracket breaking. and in one incident... a child fell out and was injured. they are designed as all-terrain jogging strollers. they were sold at target and walmart and cost 160-dollars. the company will repair the strollers for free. (darya) a pennsylvania mom is reminding others about the importance of car seat safety. take a look at this picture. the mother says her 2015 honda c-r-v was hit by another vehicle-- and her baby and toddler were inside. the car was a mangled mess, but her children escaped without a scratch. she said on facebook "this is why you buckle your kids into their car seats correctly every single time." paramedics credited her children's car seats... both rear-facing. (james) i'm tracking your forecast. player turned pro gets his block knocked off and the other player doesn't get kicked out check it out in the gary rewind. wrapped up and going down. knocking him unconcious. the hit was straight to the head. we don't know if he is going to play at the next game. we're still waiting to hear if adams is okay to do so. i've never seen the ball bounce so much.( darya ) needless to say, the bears aren't very good. snapping the ball to the q-b's legs, bad throws, strip sacks. it wasn't a good look for the bears. aaron rodgers threw four touchdown passes, and the injury-riddled green bay packers converted three turnovers into scores in an eventful 35-14 victory over the mistake-prone chicago bears on thursday night. rodgers connected with davante adams and randall cobb on short touchdown passes to help build a 21-0 lead in the second quarter of a game delayed 45 minutes between the first two quarters because of lightning. the packers overpowered the bears down the stretch to slog out a win as intermittent rain fell at lambeau field. the packers lost two more key players to injuries. adams left the field on a stretcher after getting hit in the head during a tackle by danny trevathan in the third quarter.
