(james) officials and members of the media are having difficulty reaching the florida keys amid reports of extreme damage and possible fatalities on the stretch of islands west of key largo. (tiffany) david sutta from florida's "w-f-o-r" found his way to onto the islands to survey some of the damage. water, power and communications, officials said. "my heart goes out to the people in the keys," gov. rick scott said. "there's devastation. i just hope everybody survived. it's horrible what we saw."there were conflicting reports about damage to the pipeline that provides drinking water from the mainland, but the florida keys aqueduct authority issued a statement saying "the transmission main appears to be intact."however, the widespread water outages and low water pressure throughout the keys appear to be a result of problems with smaller distribution systems, the authority said, explaining it had issued a precautionary boil-water notice.things were looking so dire that an estimated 10,000 people who rode out the storm in the keys may require evacuation, the defense department said. the island chain is home to about 79,000 people.key west city manager jim scholls says there are no plans to evacuate anyone.irma's eye passed over cudjoe key, about 20 miles east of key west, monroe county commissioner heather carruthers said. there was a great deal of storm surge between cudjoe key and marathon key, but it wasn't as severe as during hurricane wilma during 2005, she said. irma also appears to have caused less structural damage than wilma, she said.two people died, but it's unclear whether the deaths are storm- related. rescuers expect to find some loss of life as they make their way into the island chains, carruthers said, but "i don't think it would be significant because so many people evacuated."the airport in marathon requires significant cleanup, and key west's airport has yet to reopen. accessing the (tiffany) yesterday we reported on the latest san francisco homicide - a well-known trans activist gunned down in the tenderloin district. the number of killings in san francisco has gone up the last two years. kron 4's ella sogomonian reports the police department is ramping up patrols to combat the epidemic. last year san francisco police reported 31 people were killed at the hands of another person. this year to date there have been 48 homicides already.sot: "alarming. and i think we need to figure out a solution for it."police say the rising homicide rate includes both random and targeted acts.in june a u-p-s worker shot and killed three of his colleagues before turning the gun on himself in potrero hill.in july a local photographer was shot at the iconic tourist destination twin peaks.and this weekend a popular trans activist who went by the name bubbles was gunned down in the tenderloin district.in response - sfpd will now double up on foot patrols throughout the city.sot: "i think it will make it worse i think what we need is more jobs, more lower income housing. it's just crazy right now."but the police department defends the plan.sot: officer grace gatpandan, san francisco police department//" having that extra presence we've seen that it does make a difference. especially in the twin peaks area so we're hoping to replicate that same model. by having an increase in police presence we can also have a decrease in crime." (james) people living near several caltrain stations along the peninsula may start hearing less noise beginning tomorrow. caltrain engineers no longer need to continuously sound their horns as they pass through certain stations -- including san bruno, belmont and san carlos. the protocol set to begin tomorrow instead calls for one short horn blast. however -- stations with potential hazards or pedestrian crossings are exempt from the new guideline. so stupid before i think that the public department head should be fired nobody likes it why are shoppers on in the sunset district up in arms . because the city altered 8 parking spaces i'll explain in the next edition of people behaving badly (james) and here's a live look outside... at the embarcadero. [fbi agent] you're a brave man, mr. stevens. your testimony will save lives. mr. stevens? this is your new name. this is your new house. and a perfectly inconspicuous suv. you must become invisible. [hero] i'll take my chances. (james) san francisco is always looking for ways to make roads safer for both drivers and cyclists.(tiffany) but a recent parking rule change has been met with mixed reactions -- as stanley roberts explains in people behaving badly. if im not so experienced to do it backwards so i can not park any more here because its hard for me to do backward so stupid before i think that the public department head should be firedin san francisco on vicente street between 39th ave and 40th ave where the city made a change to 8 parking spots in front of the sunset super market while this driver is pulling in head first, allow me to try and explain what changes were made you see pulling in head first is so last month now drivers are required to back in nats: ambaince there are new signs instructing drivers back-in angle parking only plus the market put up little tiny signs which read government new parking regulations the front of the car must go outwards otherwise you will receive a ticket. in english and chinesesince most people don't read signs, this is what you get drivers crossing over the double yellow lines to pull in head first this driver just pulled in head first, then got out. while a mini van is backing out and a truck is parked in the bike lane, after getting bags from his trunk he reads the small tiny sign nats ambiance then he goes back to reposition his car .while in the process of making the change lets go talk to him to see what he has to say i noticed you changed your parking (i know i didn't get it but i had to do it, you know) why? (because that's what they said the sign here) you saw the little sign did you see the big sign that you parked right next to there? (back in angle parking only, back in) yea you did it right the second time i created such a buzz just being there that some people started telling drivers to turn around this is joe and he is not liking this new configuration everybody complains about this, this is no good . nobody like it (say it agai) n nobody likes itso why would the city change from pulling in to backin in . it's simple it's so the drivers can see bicyclist when pulling out . backing out makes it dangerous but not every driver is against it rules are rules and regulations are regulations i think its ok new rules on vicente in front of the sunset suppermarket read the signs or risk a ticket or even worse a crash thank you sir you're welcome in san francisco stanley roberts kron 4 news (james) coming up on the kron four morning news... what berkeley police are now saying they need to prevent violent protests ahead of another planned right-wing speaker this week. the leader. the best. the s-class has sat at the pinnacle of automotive excellence for generations. the one car that continually innovates and pushes technology forward. on each s-class, there lies a simple badge. and it serves as our constant reminder, to never rest on laurels, and to forever earn the star. this is the 2018 s-class from mercedes-benz. the best or nothing.
