is reacting to alec baldwin's comments about guns on sets. >> duncan: atlanta hosts the world series, with the controversial team name in the spotlight. and later, halloween's ancient history. >> i'm here in ireland, this cave holds the secrets of the origins of the spookiest night of the year. >> this is the cbs weekend news. from new york, here is jericka duncan. >> duncan: good evening and thanks for joining us tonight. the g-20 summit wrapped up, with president biden reasserting the united states is reclaiming its leadership on the world stage. mr. biden also faced political heat over the direction of his domestic agenda. and chief white house correspondent nancy cordes joins us now. she's been traveling with thepoa president. nancy. >> reporter: jericka, this was the president' first solo press conference since his last foreign trip more than three months ago. this was relatively brief, lasted less than half an hour, and in it he insist that his recent drop in support in the u.s. has not affected his influence with world leaders here. >> i didn't run to determine how well i'm going to do in the polls. >> reporter: as he wrapped up his the time in rome, president biden was peppered with questions about his political standings at home. a poll out today shows his approval rating has dropped seven points since august. >> the polls can go up and down and up and down, the same with every president. >> reporter: president biden pushing more nations to move more rapidly to renewable energy. so, he was asked why he has also been urging oil rich nations to temporarily boost production amidst a global supply crunch. >> you have to get in an automobile, turn the key, get their kids to school. the idea that there is an alternative to being able to walk away and get away from your automobile is just not realistic, it's not going to happen. >> reporter: he had hoped his own build back better plan would pass before he got here. he now predicts the house will take it up as soon as tuesday as well as a $1 trillion infrastructure bill. >> combined they have $900 billion dealing with climate resilience and it's the largest investment in the history of the world that's ever occurred and it's going to pass. >> reporter: this annual g20 summit is meant to bring together the world's largest economies but this year there were some notable absences. >> not only russia, but china basically didn't show up in determination of climate change. there is a reason why people should be disappointed in that. i found it disappointing myself. >> duncan: and nancy, the president says he's confident in the build back better plan, but we've still seen these lawmakers negotiating this deal over the weekend. >> reporter: yes, jericka, there's primarily an effort among democrats to try the tweak their favorite proposal, in an effort to get enough suppoort to put it back into the bill. this is a measure that would enable medicare to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies to bring down the cost of prescription drugs. so, they're working against the clock to see if they can make that happen. >> duncan: all right, nancy cordes for us in rome, thank you. from rome to glasgow, scotland, where the president is joining world leaders, diplomats and in a climate conference.e. reportee been arriving along with the delegates to this crucial climate conference. they're demanding action to limit global warming, but the signs are they will be disappointed. a cloud of gloom is hanging over the conference center in glasgow, and it's not just the weather. it's been six years since the heavy optimism around the climate agreement reached in paris. in the time since, countries were supposed to come up with practical plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions to keep global warming to manageable levels. six lost years according to christiana figueres who was credited with pulling the paris agreement together. >> what we did not know is the science would be screaming from the rooftops as of now. >> reporter: it's all happening faster than you feared. >> it's all happening faster than we ever thought. >> reporter: even if all the greenhouse gas cuts promed by governments so far are actually achieved, current projections ar that the planet is still heading for almost five degrees of temperature rise. the floods, fires, droughts, icecap melt and sea level rise seen so far would be a small taste of the disasters to come. and the international cooperation that produced the landmark paris agreement isn't there this time. >> contrasting to where we were in the relationship between the united states and china, in 2015, the two of them walked in literally hand in hand, because over the previous years they had realized that they were better off collaborating on climate change than confronting each other. >> reporter: they've set up this conference to show the future of the planet is at stake. but what are its chances of success? according to boris johnson the british prime minister, if this were a game between humanity and climate change, climate change would be winning at half time. >> duncan: mark phillips, thank you. american airlines cancelled 1,500 flights this weekend, forcing travelers to scramble. american airlines is the second airline this month to face significant disruptions. moderna said today that federal regulators are reviewing reports that its vaccine can cause heart problems in some adolescents. the issue is myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle. the issue of approval comes this week. here is abc's mark strassmann. >> reporter: halloween 2021's real scare, the next dog fight in america's divide. as soon as tuesday, the c.d.c. could join the fda, approving the pfizer vaccine for young children ages 5-11. >> parents have been waiting for this, schools have been waiting for this, and this is really a break through. >> reporter: smaller arms, smaller dozes. pfizer's pediatric vaccine has two shots, each one-third its regular dose. in the latest weekly covid update, one in four new cases were children. vaccinating young kids could help keep them in class, protecting them, their families and their friends. >> no more masks! >> reporter: but amicably? fat chance. parents burn with resentment fever. less than one in three parents say they will get the covid vaccine for young kids right away. another third said they'll wait and see. >> lives are quite literally at risk. >> reporter: so far, california is the only state to mandate the vaccine for eligible students grades 7-12, but not until next year. >> ten vaccines have been required to send your kids to public schools for decades and decades. this is nothing new. >> reporter: but it is new in a couple ways. there are no angry crowds protesting mandatory kid vaccines for measles, mumps or whooping cough. and there are people willing to risk their jobs rather than get the covid vaccine. another 10,000 workers got vaccinated pressured by friday's mandate deadline. >> we have right as an employer to do it, every court has shown that. >> reporter: but missing cops, firefighters and e.m.t.s could create dangerous safety blind spots. >> my body, my choice! >> reporter: 20% of the city's fire stations could go dark. mark strassmann cbs news cocoa beach florida. >> duncan: actor alec baldwin made his first on-camera comments this weekend. cbs' lilia luciano joins us in hollywood with more on what baldwin had to say. lilia. >> reporter: good evening, jericka. baldwin said he could not speak about the shooting, he was ordered not to, the one issue he addressed was gun control on set. >> there are incidental accidents, on film sets from time to time, but nothing like this. this is a one in a trillion episode, a one in a trillion case. >> reporter: alec baldwin spoke to paparazzi in vermont, with his wife also recording. >> we have to realize when it does go wrong this horrible catastrophic thing, some things have to take place, plastic guns. >> that shot killed hutchins and wounded are director joel souza. gun was cold, meaning safe. >> reporter: baldwin, who is also a producer on the film, addressed calls for stronger on- set safety measures. >> i do know that an ongoing effort to limit the use of firearms on film sets is something i'm extremely interested in. >> reporter baldwin said, authorities ordered him to say nothing about the situation and he has been cooperating every day. >> i couldn't answer that question. i really don't have any, i have no sense of it at all. >> reporter: the d.a. says criminal charges haven't been ruled out and it's still unclear how the live round ended up in the gun. jericka. >> lilia thank you. the atlanta braves are one victory away from theirs first world series championship in more than 25 years, but a tradition in the stand and the team's name are drawing new scrutiny. cbs' mola lenghi is outside the stadium. mola. >> reporter: well, jericka while many braves fans insist that their mascot and their team rituals like the tomahawk chop are meant to honor native american traditions. some say they still find the symbols offensive. a ritual among atlanta brave's baseball fans. the mimicked native american war chant dates back to the braves 1991 world series appearance as profiled by cbs sports. three decades later it continues, seemingly at odds with the traditions of native americans. >> brings to mind the warrior savage which has been a stereotype and just an image that has not been really positive. >> reporter: the issue has become a political flash point. former president trump on hand at saturday night's game performing the chop. these braves fans say the intention is not to offend. >> it honors the indians, it honors the cherokee tribe. >> down in georgia and atlanta, we believe it is a positive. we love our braves, we love our tohawk chop. >> is a history professor at the university of georgia. >> is there a way to honor the history but to also keep these rituals like the chop in sports and to keep them respectfully? >> growing up with sickle cell for her she felt like a burden, and she never wanted anyone to feel rejected or alone. >> i miss my wife. it hurts. it hurts. >> reporter: nyome's husband sidikie kamara. >> we're not going to turn anybody down. anybody disabled. >> tomorrow's their birthday! yay! >> when we found this we thought it was the biggest blessing of our lives. >> reporter: what would you do if it had to close? >> i don't know. my wife would have to probably quit her job. >> reporter: nyome had grand plans to help kids too. >> we had the activities, toys, shares. >> reporter: what is your hope with this room?
