tonight which is seeing a major spike in shootings. earlier this week, the city recorded its 100th murder of the year. and, just a couple of years ago, oakland was viewed as a national model for law enforcement on how to cut down violent crime. but in the first 11 months of 2020, the lake merritt, downtown, uptown, and west oakland neighborhoods had 12 homicides while east oakland saw 88 homicides. to put that into perspective, oakland finished out 2018 with 68 homicides. a record low. city leaders credited that turn around to operation cease fire. a program that offers jobs and services to people at risk. the pandemic has put it to a halt. oakland's interim police chief is blaming the mounting plague of gun violence on the closure of schools, recreation centers, and athletic programs. she also believes early inmate release to combat the pandemic is also to blame. muni had to reroute a few lines after a bus crash left four people injured in san francisco. the bus crashed into a vehicle at 24th and mission this afternoon. three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. that crash is under investigation. but, drugs and alcohol probably were not involved. well, chaos erupting in washington dc following a day of peaceful protests. coming up, what happened moments before things turned violent. >> and it is definitely not something you want to see while boarding your flight. a man was spotted climbing on the wings of this plane. plus, a look at the new photos that are out of this world. tonight, a mostly peaceful pro-trump rally erupted into civil unrest in the nation's capital. at least four people were stabbed and riot police arrested over 20 people while trying to keep opposing groups apart. protesters threw smoke bombs at dc police. some getting into brawls with officers. members of the far right group, the proud boys, were also caught on camera burning black lives matter banners. earlier, the mood was more celebratory. thousands of president trump's supporters rallied in the streets refusing to accept that president-elect joe biden won the race. michael flynn also gave his first public comments since being pardoned. >> do you still believe he won? >> absolutely. no doubt. >> courts do not design who the next president of the united states of america will be. we the people decide. >> meantime, president-elect joe biden was seen leaving a philadelphia hospital today after having a checkup on his fractured foot. his doctor said biden had a weightbearing ct scan that showed his foot is healing as expected. the 78-year-old hurt his foot two weeks ago while playing with his dog. shades of the twilight zone. moments before a plane was set to take off from las vegas, video shows a man climbing onto the wing of a plane. happily, unlike the twilight zone episode, before the plane took off. officials say the man got onto the tarmac after hopping an airport fence. police later took the man to a medical facility. as for the plane? it went back to the gate for a full inspection. a bay area man who borrowed a library book nearly a half century ago was making good on a mistake he made as a boy. in 1972, tony goodman borrowed a book about pirates from the marin county free library. he never returned it. and he had been living with the guilt ever since. that is, until last monday. a good samaritan paid off the fine to clear his name. he says he wanted to do something fun for goodman this christmas. the library calculated the $58 fee by charging one dollar per year. the hubble space telescope turned 30 this year. nasa is sharing a little present with you because you paid for it, after all. check out those stunning images from the hubble. they released 30 never before seen pictures of galaxies and star clusters and there is something extra special about the celestial gems. all of them can be seen through backyard telescopes. they will not look like that because nasa colorizes stuff. but they can also be spotted with binoculars or the naked eye. which darren peck assures us we will not see tonight because there is some rain coming. first come the clouds which block out the view. the rain is coming. the next couple of hours, looks pretty far away. let's put it in the futurecast. midnight. good rain right off the coast. so we will take it from there and just play it through. sunday in the pre-dawn hours, it's in the north bay. by the time we get to sunrise it's right through the heart of the bay, 7:00 a.m. good rain going through the golden gate. once we get toward the late morning around early afternoon, the showers in this first line will reach the south bay and then clear out. so, the first part of the day is raining. then a little bit of a breakthrough the early afternoon before the next line of showers arrives right there. and, this one comes through with the possibility for a few isolated thunderstorms in it. don't be surprised with that. in the afternoon, if you hear a rumble of thunder off in the distance. if you happen to get one right over you, you get small hail with it. by the time the sun goes down, the show is over. rain comes to an end by that point. but, look how we will do on rainfall totals. this is pretty good. eight tenths of an inch of rain for the north bay. half an inch for much of the rest of the bay area. and it does deliver. on snow in the sierra. this is another foot of snow coming. up to donnor pass. that extends all the way down the sierra. there is a winter tomorrow warning because of this. it is tricky for anybody who wants to go lake tahoe anyway. perhaps you are driving over 80 for other reasons. in any case, it will be an unpleasant drive on 80 or 50. any of those tran-sierra passes you will have to take chains and be prepared. the other issue is a coastal flood advisory with beach hazards and high surf. if you are going to be on the beaches, just be careful for the next two days. it won't be as big as the next one, we could have 20-foot high waves coming in. king tides coming back sunday morning, monday morning and tuesday morning. in the late morning. 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, high tide. this will be the highest tide we have had this season. places like the embarcadero and the lower intersections in marin which see the water come in, that will be something to watch for. really for the next three mornings. morning lows go back down to the upper 40s , with the a cloudy damp start, you won't notice the temperatures much. and we don't get out of the 50s all day tomorrow. tomorrow is the main day for rain. but as we look ahead in the seven day forecast, on thursday, there's another system that will come and it looks like it will be focused mainly in the north bay. probably won't get a whole lot of rain much further south of that, but a chance of rain coming our way thursday. let's share some of the bay area bright spots. this comes from susan cooke in vallejo. we are trying to share all these beautiful light displays. maybe you are not getting out as much. maybe not as many people are coming out to see the displays you have done. either way, let's make sure these get seen and let's share the bright spots
