as green light to reopen. why many say they're staying closed. our top story at 11:00. coronavirus surging once again across the country, good evening, i'm juliet goodrich. >> new signs pointing that the u.s. is on the verge of another strong wave of the virus kpix 5 d t ght, betty. doctors are so in cases of covid-19. medical experts say this is likely because of mask wearing and a slow reopening. but elsewhere in the country, the picture is looking bleak. after an early fall slow down, los angeles county is now seeing cases top a thousand a day this week. cases of covid-19 in the bay area are stable. but governor gavin newsom warned californians this week against letting our guard down to avoid a second wave. >> you're starting to see an increase in covid-19 cases all across the country. in fact, as of this morning, 21 states have seen an increase in transmission rates of covid-19. we're seeing this by the way not just across the country, you're seeing this increasingly arading in glfa than anytithe spring, spain is also focusing on virus hot spots like the madrid area, which now has europe's highest covid infection rate. doctors here in the u.s. are worried. >> we're all deeply afraid this is the beginning of that dreaded second wave. we did see spikes in numbers that were large lippinger people going back to college some what we're seeing now is it's spreading within the community. >> california had a 2.6% positivity rate over the past seven days. san francisco is lower. about 1%. and santa clara county, dr. de warned that americans need to keep up preventative measures. community spread is now occurring with small gatherings day after day in households and family and friends. >> and brian, right now, as it stands, san francisco, santa clara, marin, and napa counties are the only ones in the bay area that qualify the th second least restrictive tier, the orange tier, the next would be yellow. president trump's doctor says he's no longer a risk for transmitting the virus. this after the president made his first public appearance today. speaking on the balcony of the white house. his remarks focused largely on the november 3rd election. but mr. trump also touched on the coronavirus that landed him in the hospital just over a week ago. >> science, medicine will eradicate the china virus once and for all. we'll get rid of it all over the world. you see big flare ups in europe, a very big flare up in canada. you saw that today. a lot of flare ups but it's going to disappear, vaccines are going to help. therapeutics are going to 170s today. mid 90s are coming back. i'll show you all that in a few minutes. pg&e is investigating whether it's own equipment sparked a deadly wildfire in class that county. mercury news reports that state investigators have confiscated some of the utilities equipment. near the origin point of the dog fire. that fire started nearly two weeks ago west of redding. it left four people dead. the cause of the fire has not been determined the cooler temperatures and extra humidity have been a big help in napa county, evacuation orders and warnings around highway 29 have been lifted. at last check t glass fire was 86% contained. just over 76,000-acres. also some more good news to toast to tonight with crews making progress. many winerys welcomed back visitors, from the shelter in place, to the highs will be coming 20 degrees warmer. in other words, we got to go back into the mid 90s for daytime highs for most of this seven-day, this isbyy r the xt we're going to start notice the warm up all ready as early as tomorrow. there's going to be fire weather concerns as we get into the middle of the week to go on top of that warm up. the map will sum up how this all comes together. see the winds
