americans in the middle east in jeopardy. the u.s. embassy in baghdad is urging americans to leave iraq immediately. qasem soleimani was ahead of the special forces unit. he and six others were killed in the airstrike near baghdad international airport last night. the pentagon said president trump directed the attack and in a statement the department of defense said soleimani was actively developing plans to attack american diplomats and servicemembers in iraq and throughout the region. the secretary of state defendant president trump's actions. >> make no mistake about it the trump administration isfo cused maximum extent feasible. we made the conclusion that the statement we issued and the timing was right. >> just within the last few minutes president trump has been tweeting about the situation saying right there that iran never won a war but never lost either and he says that they would never be able to properly admit soleimani was hated and feared within the country. they are not nearly as saddened as the leaders will let the outside world believe. he should've been taken out many years ago. the statement from the pentagon claim soleimani approved this week smiling protest at the u.s. embassy in baghdad. that prompted the u.s. miliect anlives aninterests. it goes on to say that tonight airstrike ricks provoking further dangerous escalation of violence in america and the world cannot afford to have tensions escalate to the point of no return. will this affect security across the bay area? we reach out to local city leaders across the region to find out and are waiting to hear back from them. i'm anne makovec from the live news desk let's go live right got to menlo park where we have been monitoring this water main break. this is on pierce road which runs parallel to the highway 101. and the repairs will take about 24 hours. water will be shut up periodically for about a five block section of pierce road between alpine avenue and menlo oaks drive. there are a bunch of little apartment complexes there so we are talking about dozens of families potentially being affected by this over the next 24 hours. and it happened that about 3:00 this morning so we are looking at the repairs being finished about 3:00 tomorrow morning. some of the crews have mr. preliminary repairs but again the shutoff should be on and off for the next da i e fuel ak to land in san jose last night. the southwest jet was inbound from burbank when more than 140 people on board and the pilot selected to divert to the airport. the flight landed safely after 7:30 and it turns out there was no purely just a faulty cockpit indicator. a suspect is dead after a police or pursuit ended in a crash. according to the california highway patrol the driver tried to exit u.s. an attempted home invasion in alameda county. the shooting happened wednesday night around 11:30. dublin police say homes resident awoke to his ex- girlfriend banging on his front door. when he opened it he was confronted by her and a man who pointed a gun at him and charge inside. according to neighbors the resident moved in just a few days ago. >> all we heard was the police show up and there were a lot of them. there was a bunch of yelling. i thought it was my neighbors arguing. >> the resident opened fire in self-defense hitting his ex- girlfriend and the other men had to run out. this is the first homicide in dublin since 2009. in oakland friend said the man who pursued that these two stole his laptop computer died on his 34th birthday. the tragic sequence of events happened on new year's eve at a starbucks in the city's montclair district. he suffered major injuries were trying to chase the thieves and later died at the hospital. friends say shuo zeng was planning a combination birthday- new year's eve party at his home that night. a candlelight vigil is reportedly being planned for sunday at that starbucks. a terrifying morning for some california drivers. authority say a man slammed his truck into a carson started doing donuts in the middle of the highway. it happened on wednesday morning on interstate 5 near merced county. the suspect crashed into at least eight different vehicles including an ambulance that flipped onto its side. police said the suspect was under the influence of math and to inldstigators vihede o game. >> the guy chases for this car and then made some racist comments. then we call the cops and we told him no, just turn the car off because you're scaring us. you just ran us off the road and into the bushes. >> the suspect is in in australia. hot, dry weather and strong winds are expected to make conditions even worse there. of the 17 people have died and hundreds of homes have been destroyed. or fires t ua australia's history. firefighters arrived yesterday to help. a record 12 million acres have gone up in flames, that is six times the acreage burned during the 2018 california wildfire season. there were some
