in the airstrike near baghdad international airport last night. the pentagon said president trump directed the attack and in a statement the department of defense said soleimani was actively developing plans to attack american diplomats and servicemembers in iraq and throughout the region. the secretary of state defendant president trump's actions. >> make no mistake about it the trump administration isfo cused maximum extent feasible. we made the conclusion that the statement we issued and the timing was right. >> just within the last few minutes president trump has been tweeting runs parallel to the highway 101. and the repairs will take about 24 hours. water will be shut up periodically for about a five block section of pierce road between alpine avenue and menlo oaks drive. there are a bunch of little apartment complexes there so we are talking about dozens of families potentially being affected by this over the next 24 hours. and it happened that about 3:00 this morning so we are looking at the repairs being finished about 3:00 tomorrow morning. some of the crews have mr. preliminary repairs but again the shutoff should be on and off for the next da i e fuel ak to land in san jose last night. the southwest jet was inbound from burbank when more than 140 people on board and the pilot selected to divert to the airport. the flight landed safely after 7:30 and it year's eve at a starbucks in the city's montclair district. he suffered major injuries were trying to chase the thieves and later died at the hospital. friends say shuo zeng was planning a combination birthday- new year's eve party at his home that night. a candlelight vigil is reportedly being planned for sunday at that starbucks. a terrifying morning for some california drivers. authority say a out the door this morning mainly clear skies and we are dealing with some foggy conditions especially across the concord area. the east bay down to a half a mile so dense fog for you. patchy fog this morning and all of us will see the sunshine as we head through the afternoon with mild above average daytime highs. whbrght t day once r pattern showers late tonight, overnight and into early tomorrow morning. is a quick moving weather system. dropping some showers for some of us. not everyone. it's not a big rainmaker but i will show you what you can expect coming up. your weekend with that ridge of high pressure in control today it will give way to this low pressure system that will drop a weak cold front away. we will be on the tail end of this run. you can already see the rain for the pacific northwest and for us here in the bay area it will be a weak weather system. so as we go hour-by-hour on futurecast you can see all that sunshine for this afternoon. the clouds return tonight and some scattered light showers la tomorrow morning. this is on futurecast. stopping the clock rough at least 5 am tomorrow and for tomorrow in the afternoon we will catch some clearing. that is just how fast this weather system moves in ou we will see sunshine and cooler temps for your sunday. fall amounts with his father see some with this cold front looking at just a few hundred seven inch of rain. that is late tonight and overnight into early tomorrow morning and that moves out of here by tomorrow afternoon. the sierra snowpack looking great. this is good news for us. the north sierra sunshine continues monday and tuesday of next week. the new year begins with the peak of the quadratic meteor shower this weekend. one of the best annual shows in the night sky. and marks the first major meteor shower of 2020. it is brief and will last about six hours. the show peaks friday night into saturday morning. our weather might affect visibility of the showers. to searches of ice are and then clearing up fairly quickly. 60 for a high today in san francisco. 65 san jose and 59 for concord. the extended forecast, some showers early tomorrow morning clearing out after that in the
