A Scheduling Software glitch at American Airlines may ruin holiday plans. They are trying to find pilots for thousands of flights around christmas. Kpix 5s Jessica Flores reports. Reporter theres a panic especially on social media if their flights or family flights are going to be canceled this Holiday Season. Theres a Software Glitch saying the scheduling system allowed too many pilots to take the time off during the busiest time of the year. So many pilots are scheduled more than 15,000 flights could be at risk of being canceled in the coming weeks. Thats between december 17th and the 31st. To solve it they will use reserve pilots and offering time and a half for pilots willing to fly certain routes but travelers are nervous. Youre left stranded. Reporter American Airlines issued this tweet saying. Its not clear whether any pilots will be assigned to the remaining flights or whether any will be canceled. One of the inmates who escaped a palo alto courthouse and then was captured this week is set to appear in court again. Today john bivins is expected to be arraigned this afternoon. Authorities tracked him down on sunday in san leandro. He and another fugitive Tramel Mcclough escaped from the courthouse on november 6th when they were supposed to appear. Mcclough was arrested a couple weeks later after a chase with police in stockton. The National Football league has reportedly reached an agreement with players on social justice issues. Reporter the tentative agreement was reached last night between the nfl and team players to donate almost 100 million over the next 7 years. Now, that money would go towards social causes important to the Players Coalition focused mainly on african americans. They hope more players will stand for the National Anthem before the game if they do this. San francisco 49ers eric reid withdrew from the Players Coalition saying he didnt agree how the talks were going with the nfl. If i lose money, if i lose my job, i will be satisfied that i did what i felt was right for people that dont have a voice. Reporter reid is closely linked with former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick who was the one who started the National Anthem protest last season. Kaepernick said he was protesting the treatment of blacks in the united states. Now, team owners still have to vote to approve this deal. That could happen as early as next month. Live at levis stadium, Katie Nielsen, kpix 5. Republicans in the u. S. Senate are hoping to hold a vote on the tax bill by the end of the week after advancing the bill for debate last night. The Republican Leaders are still talking about some last minute changes however. One possible change being discussed, slashing the Corporate Tax rate to 22 instead of 20 . Down from the current 35 . That could help pay for and expanded child tax credit. Democrats have blasted the current plan and gop leaders still need to win over members of their own party to get this bill passed. He told people in places like ohio he was going to look out for them and their interests. And here we have a bill thats going to raise taxes on middle class people. I havent decided yet. On tuesday, the president agreed to a provision that will automatically increase taxes if the bill fails to stimulate the economy but conservative groups are fighting that proposal. And yesterday, at ucberkeley, grad students took part in a nationwide protest against the bill. The house bill will remove a deduction for student tuition resulting in tax increases for some graduate students today Community Leaders in San Francisco will be urging the city leaders to stop supporting a program known as urban shield. Kpix 5s jackie ward reports. Reporter urban shield is also known to bring a lot of controversy with it. Those against it have already successfully pushed it out of places like oakland and now they are trying to push it out of San Francisco. Actually, across the bay area for that matter. The aclu is sending a letter to the board of supervisors urging them to cut ties with urban shield. San francisco is voting today on whether it should sign a contract with the Exposition Group that would lock them in as fiscal sponsors through 2021. San francisco is the fiscal agent for urban area security. The Homeland Security Program Funds urban shield so that means according to the examiner, that the city and countys department of Emergency Management is the Oversight Agency in applying for and distributing the federal Grant Funding for the 12 counties across the bay area. Coalition members say this type of convention doesnt truly help protect communities but instead instills fear. Urban shield is policing. Its the ideology, the tactics and its the equipment. Reporter urban shield was in Alameda County where the Sheriffs Department said they were focusing on disaster preparedness. An Elementary School student is among the juvenile suspects in a Violent Crime spree that included carjacking, Armed Robbery and highspeed chases. San jose police say they arrested 11 minors ranging in age from 11 to 17. The youngest is accused of leading police on a highspeed chase after he and three teenaged girls allegedly punched a woman and stole her car from Communications Hill friday night. Police say other crimes committed by the group included a carjacking at Cherry Avenue and waterville drive and a car theft on thanksgiving day. Many of those suspects were released to their parents and police chief eddie garcia says thats frustrating. If these crimes were committed by adults, they would still be incarcerated so there seems to be a double standard. Police trying to determine if the teens were behind other crimes over the weekend. One suspect still on the run. There could soon be another headache for drivers who have to park in San Francisco. The Municipal Transportation Agency is considering surge pricing on parking meters throughout the city. The rates would vary by location and time of day depending on demand. Getting heavy making your way through san mateo and burlingame. This is 101 at poplar but you have an easy ride in both directions. We have no accidents on 101 heading into San Francisco. This is 80 right as you approach 4th street there and we were getting reports of a rain thats possibly blocked near harrison in that eastbound direction as you approach the skyway and the lower deck of the bay bridge. But we are not seeing any backups so far. Over at the bay bridge toll plaza, we are starting to see brake lights so this is the maze where 580 and interstate 80 come together but the eastshore freeway thats still moving at the limit. You will be slow once you get to the maze and headed over towards the metering lights. Hats a check of your traffic; over to you. I keep watching the visibility maps to let you know where that fog is starting to lay low and mess with people on those roads. Heres a look right now. We can see kind of winding its way around the bay. We are getting a very light west wind. So that may help disperse some of the fog. But a lot of it is going to linger across the north bay valleys. Visibility at. 3 miles. Its clear. But closer to the sunrise our temperatures will be at their coolest and thats when that fog could intensify. So cool and foggy morning for parts of the bay area today especially along the north bay. And our afternoon will be sunshine and 60s. Clouds are moving in this weekend but the good news is if you have outdoor plans this weekend, dont expect the rain to mess with them. So that rain is going to stay to the north of us. They say their scheduling system allowed too many pilots to take the time off during the busiest time of the year. Now, were learning a lot of this information from the American Airlines union. They say right now, so many pilots are scheduled off, more than 15,000 flights are at risk of being canceled in the coming weeks between december 17th and the 31st. The vacation glitch could affect flights for nearly a dozen airports including hubs in dallas, chicago and miami. American Airlines Says to solve the problem they are going to use reserve pilots. They are also offering time and a half to pilots willing to pick up certain routes. This is the potential for a travel nightmare. American has 15,000 pilots. It has more than 1,000 of those pilots who are on reserve. American airlines issued a tweet saying we are planning on flying this Holiday Season and expect to avoid any cancellation. Its still not clear, just yet how many pilots would be assigned to the remake flights or whether any flights will be canceled. Industry analysts believe American Airlines will fix this issue. Player protests where they have been taking a knee has reportedly prompted an agreement with the National Football league on social justice issues. Reporter late last night the nfl and the Players Coalition came to an agreement for the league and team owners to donate almost 100 million over the next seven years for community activism. That money goes towards social causes mainly supporting blacks and social justice at the direction of the Players Coalition. Team owners hope it could be the olive branch that ease tensions with players and end those National Anthem protests. But 49ers safety eric reid said he wouldnt be part of the Players Coalition anymore because of the way the talks were going with the nfl. Being pragmatic about it, im happy that we can use this opportunity to further the conversation. Reporter team owners still have to vote to approve the tentative agreement which could happen in december or march. There is no language in the agreement that requires players to stand for the National Anthem. But some team owners say if the protests continue, they are going to Start Playing the National Anthem first and then bring the players out on to the field. We are tracking an accident westbound highway 4 and its as you approach bailey. Its involving a caltrans truck and a big rig. And take a look at that backup thats stretching clear into antioch there. We have westbound direction speeds dipping below 15 Miles Per Hour. Right now, your travel time is getting close to 25 minutes between loveridge and 680. So do expect delays out of antioch heading on over to 680. The eastshore freeway starting to get a little busy for your thursday morning commute.
