the airport is there or not but i wish it wasn't there. >> if you look at the left side of the frame you'll see a small trailer. the plane also clipped that trailer and dislodgeded it from the suv that was towing it. they're now dealing with about 40 gallons of fuel that spilled out of the plane. >> two men are behind bars and a daly city police officer is in the hospital after a high speed chase through san francisco today. the get away car hit a police suv. the suspects were later caught hiding in a nearby backyard. kpix5's katy neilson is live with more. >> reporter: this all started around 11:45 this morning when daly city police got a call about two men trying to break into cars at the mall parking lot. when the cops showed up the two guys jumped into a waiting car and took off. >> it's very, very brazen to do this. >> the high speed pursuit quickly made its way on to northbound 280. that's where just north a motorcycle driver lost control of his bike and went down. amazingly his only injuries were scrapes and bruises. >> we're very thankful our officer is okay. >> the suspects kept going but less than a mile later the high speed chase ended when the suspect's car crashed into a daly city police suv. the suspect jumped out of the car and ran into the nearby neighborhood. >> there was a lot of activity outside and the dog was barking so they went to the yard to see what was happening and it so happened that the dog sniffed the guys out. >> two of the suspects were arrested hiding in the backyard shed of one of her neighbors who lives not far from interstate 280. >> one of my brother's is a sheriff so he knew how to handle the situation and they let the police into the house and they were able to arrest the two gentlemen hiding in his backyard. >> the suspects were arrested about an hour after the chase started and police say this case is unusual. >> the whole brazenness of breaking into a vehicle in a crowded parking lot filled with witnesses and other citizens and then leading police on a pursuit through 280 into san francisco is a very brazen act. >> daly city police say they aren't releasing the names of the two suspects involved in the chase until tomorrow at the earliest. but both men will be facing a laundry list of charges. >> busy san francisco bart station back up and running tonight after somebody got trapped under a train. fire engines rushed to the montgomery street station at about 11:00 in the morning. not clear how the person got stuck on the tracks but police say the victim is expected to survive. looking ahead the kate steinle murder trial the key question was the shooting death accidental or intentional. melissa cane breaks down the key piece of evidence the jury will use to decide. >> that national debate will have no place in the jury pool. >> early in the trial the judge ruled there could be no political arguments about immigration or gun control. so during tomorrow's closing arguments the focus has to stay on the death of kate steinle. tony brass has been a prosecutor and now is a defense attorney. >> the battleground in this case is going to be the level of intent. the level of intent of this man when he had that gun in his hand. >> in other words did he know he was firing a gun on a crowded pier. the defense says it was an accident the gun could have gone off. but the prosecutor says that's unlikely. >> the trigger had to be pulled. this firearm cannot fire without the trigger being pulled. the question is was it pulled deliberately. >> the jurors have other facts to contend with too. for one thing the bullet that hit steinly ricochetted off the pier making it unlikely that he was aiming at her. >> a ricochet is like throwing a football and predicting its trajectory after the fact. >> then there's the fact that the gun was stolen from a truck from a bureau of land management agent. >> the fact that this was left loaded in a car. just a piece of glass between it and a life of criminality i think it's something the jurors may focus on and it may take blame off the defendant. the defense may make their closing arguments first then the prosecution. it's its up to the jury to put politics aside and make a decision. >> jurors will focus on the moment that is led up to that shooting and the shooting itself. >> a prison inmate in solono county is back behind bars tonight after a few hours on the run. 27-year-old rashad baker turned himself in about 4:00 this morning. around seven hours after he walked away from the delta conservation camp. he was assisting in the disaster recovery efforts from the recent wildfires. he was serving a 12-year sentence for armed robbery and was scheduled for patrol in 2020. no word on how much longer he'll have to serve now. but he is no longer eligible to be housed in a camp. >> police are warning people about a spike in car break in's. they say there have been at least a dozen smash and grabs in just the past week all on the west side of san leandro. the thief may be driving a dark colored honda civic with the plates reading victory. in the meantime police are advising people to remove garage door openers, cell phones, and power cords from their cars when parking. along with vehicle title and insurance cards. a driver in san francisco has quite the insurance claim tonight after a huge tree came crashing down on his car. the 40 foot tree smashed the car's back window, dented the roof, even flattened its tires. at least nobody was hurt. >> a small cafe that's been serving customers at the pleasanton fairgrounds for decades just ran into a big hitch. earlier this year the horse training and stable business moved to golden gate fields in berkeley. without its usual busy crowd things were anything but stable for the cafe. that is until a group of young volunteers came in and changed things. >> reporter: there are no signs on the street. no indication that it's even there. but enter the alameda county fairgrounds and follow the road all the way to its end and like the sign says welcome to the stable cafe. >> how does anybody know this place is here? >> it's a secret. some people call it the best kept secret in town. >> working all alone esther hall has been serving up breakfast for years. her specialty is the giant pancakes. >> manhole covers is what a lot of people call them. >> but they lost their financial support to stable here and left. leaving the cafe with so few customers that it began closing on sundays. that bothered david mueller. >> it got very quiet. and we would come in on some of the days after that happened and there would be one or two people. >> david had an idea. he asked if his son blake who was autistic could come help out once in a while. she said yes and that led to more people from the special needs program getting involved. now on the third sunday of every month the cafe is buzzing again serving a great breakfast to all of the family and friends of its new special work force. >> for us it's a great opportunity for him to develop himself, gain confidence in interacting with people. and just seeing how the real world works. >> what do you think this is going to mean for your future. >> this is going to mean to me that pretty soon a real job will become easy. >> but this is a real job, right? >> yeah this is a real job. >> so you're not messing around anymore. >> it's a total win, win. the new waiters work for tips which are usually pretty generous and the cafe gets the extra business and some much needed publicity. but perhaps the biggest winner of all is esther herself. >> what did you learn? >> i look at people different. everyday when i go out i see different. it's opened my eyes. they're helping me like they don't even know. >> you never know where help will come from when things get shaky. but thanks to them the name of this place has taken on a whole new meaning. >> because of the christmas holiday the cafe will be open on the second sunday in december and we're told a special guest from the north pole will be there as well. >> can't imagine who that could be. still to come a mystery off the san mateo county coastline tonight. this boat is spinning in circles with no one on board. >> plus united in marriage but separated by a wall. the unusual wedding along the u.s. mexico border this weekend. >> and a board the 70 foot boat was pulled from the water and has died. it's not clear what went wrong on board. we're told it's possible a second person may be in the water. the boat itself is still spinning as we speak. the coast guard is circling it waiting for it to run out of gas. >> an american man and a mexican woman got married between the doors of a steel border gate this weekend. u.s. border patrol agents in san diego opened the gates briefly for the 6th annual opening the door for hope event. it allows a select number of divided families to reunite and embrace their loved ones for 3 minutes. this year for the first time a couple said i do during the brief reunion. >> i wish it was easier for her to come here to get married. but it is a statement that love has no borders. >> normally families from both sides have to exchange greetings through a fence. >> president trump is taking aim at the father of one of the ucla basketball players arrested in china. he wrote now that they are out of china and saved from years in jail the father of leangelo is unaccepting of what i did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal. i should have left them in jail. the three players were arrested last week. the president took credit for their release saying that during his asia trip he asked the president of china to help out. the young men did thank the president when they got back to the u.s. he says they could have faced ten years in jail but many legal experts say that was unlikely. >> random acts of kindness are spreading across the los angeles area tonight. the anonymous women behind them is planning to give out exactly 58 gifts to strangers. >> reporter: a video posted by the police department showing a random act of kindness is going viral. it was shot at this starbucks. a woman walked in, dropped off an envelope and said this to the cashier. >> give this to somebody nice. >> the cashier saw a police officer and gave the mystery envelope to him. there was a gift card inside and a note. >> when he opened up the card there was a small slip of paper there that said this was the 4th act of kindness out of 58 acts. >> 58 was the number of people killed in the las vegas massacre. the person carrying out the act of kindness was a survivor herself of the mass killing. she said she was doing this in memory of 21-year-old who was killed in the shooting. >> for somebody to be so kind of selfless and just kind of think about others she's still looking to give back. >> when you pay it forward it makes you forget what you've been through and helps you focus on someone else. . >> the woman who made the donation told the cashier she does not want her name released she wants to remain anonymous. >> the mountain view police department is busy really pertain to north of the golden gate tomorrow. the rest of us, the south bay will wake up to a fairly decent day, plenty of sun. and the central bay some clouds and some sun. so much for the camera, it's not picking up much it's dark out there. 65 in concord and san jose. santa rosa 61. right now concord 58. the winds are fairly come this sunday evening. as we have a look at the satellite and radar north bay rain chance tomorrow and just a smaller chance of a few sprinkles south of the golden gate. it won't be much. north bay will get more rain. future cast, you can see by monday morning there's some rain that will hit on the shoreline but you'll notice it's the magic of the golden gate. south of the golden gate, as the day goes on the same theme. cloudy in the north bay, but sun comes out towards sunset tomorrow night. so the majority of this is going to be falling in the north bay. south of the golden gate bridge not much. a rain chance after thanksgiving. travel weather forecast looks like rain northern third of the state. overnight lows tonight chilly, temperatures in the low 50s. and the forecast highs everybody is going to be in the 60s and low 70s tomorrow. notice san jose at 72 degrees because this won't be a factor in san jose. you'll have more such up there but up north it's on the chilly side. temperatures warm all the way to the mid-70s in the warmest spots by wednesday. so a bit of a warming trend after we dispense with this system coming down from the gulf. we'll have an update on that coming up. but that's weather, and bad news in a home in san jose. the plane had just taken off from reed hill view airport when there was a mechanical problem. all three people on board are expected to survive. nobody on the ground was hurt. >> senate candidate accused of sexual misconduct in alabama. the state's three largest newspapers are urging voters to choose moore's opponent. a senator from moore's own party is saying the same thing. party. moore is running for the open senate seat in alabama. collins said she was critical of moore even before he was accused of making sexual advances on teenager girls. >> i do not find his denials media group owner of three major newspapers in the state released an editorial telling readers to reject roy moore and vote for his democratic opponent doug jones. >> voters will ultimately decide repositories referred to as buckets they're supposed to be password protected but some are left open exposing data inside. >> a guy like me comes across and finds it if you're lucky. if you're unlucky a bad guy comes across and uses the data for malicious purposes. >> just this year alone he stumbled upon a bucket of data from the republican national committee that included dates of birth, home addresses, phone numbers, and voter registration details on (19) 800-0000 voters. the largest known -- 198 million voters. the largest known data exposure of its kind. another showed social security numbers of 1.8 million chicago voters. yet another names and cell numbers of (1) 400-0000 verizon subscribers also -- 14 million verizon subscribers. then this motherload made public recently where he found several raw intelligence data gathered by the department of defense. it was links to news reports, video clips, comments, and keyword searchs. in the wrong hands it could have tipped off american spy strategy to our energies. >> you would think they would know better. >> you would think so. but they may not be the ones that were administering the bucket. >> if they're leaving this stuff out there that pretty much just leaves you shaking your head. >> yeah it does. >> the exposure usually happens when they migrate from their in house hard drives to the cloud. >> they've done it with the human need to make things simpler but the unfortunate thing is they've unintentionally left a lot of stuff open to the rest of the human population. >> many companies don't have the expertise on staff so they hire a third party vender who may hire another third party vender passing all of your private information from one hand to another. betsy cooper is the executive director of the uc berkeley center for long term cyber security. >> the primary person that you're working with you may be able to engage with their security but you don't know anything about what the vender is doing. >> a third party esnf admitted it was to blame. >> we set up the folder on samson web services. we set it up with the wrong security setting. >> verizon's data breach happened through a third party system. in a statement verizon said no verizon customer's information was lost or stolen. we have confirmed that the only access to the cloud storage area by a person other than verizon or its vender was a researcher who brought this issue to our attention. and they thanked up guard for finding the data breach. they said word is getting out and they've noticed cloud server providers are making set spreading light rain around crescent city and light winds as well. about 10 miles per hour winds on the north coast and a few light showers beginning to appear on 101 just north of santa rosa. the majority of the bay area will see mostly cloudy skies to start out monday morning but as the day wears on chance of rain begins to sag southward into the central bay area. but there will not be much. most of this is focussed in the north bay as we overlook the city highs today managed low to mid-60s. so it wasn't a chilly day. nor will tomorrow be. right now numbers are mostly in the 50s and we've got mostly cloudy skies as we approach 7:00 tonight. but the north bay rain chance will be on monday then the rest of the week looks like we're drying it out. but if you're north of the golden gate and up into the lake county you get some rain. it will be a little bit wet tonight but not much. future cast bears it all out. as you can see by sunrise plenty of showers are peppering the north coast and look at what happens by the time you get down to the golden gate. there's not much south of it. then off it goes to the east. so in the south bay in san jose the numbers will be in the low 70s tomorrow. it will be that way mostly. northern third of the state looks wet. lows in the low 50s and tomorrow sunshine in the south bay. a few showers, a sprinkle or two possible in the east bay. up in the north bay is where most of the actual rain and even that limited to .2-inch of rain. then it looks like it will be high and dry and we will be back after a break. and right - often under the worst of circumstances. but not every departure is a grim tale of greed. as kpix 5's wilson walker shows us: haight city landmarks disappearing left and right often under the worst circumstances. >> do much. and over the years it turned out that was a pretty good thing to do, not much. there's history there, there's not only the personal history of the store there's the history of technology. there's the history of wealth. there's the history of music itself, how music has changed. >> and that brings us to the last track for recycled records and it's the kind of tune you don't hear too often these days. >> it all came together because i needed somebody to clean out my basement which was a total mess and brewster said i'll do it. just over there there's square dance calls. >> that would be the founder of the internet archive and when he got a chance to get his hands on this collection. >> someone will be interested absolutely but i said you have to understand these are the records that didn't sell. he said that's what we want. >> so a team of volunteers descended on the store rack by rack and hit gold. >> we had sound effect lp's. >> it's certainly the west coast breadth of the vinyl area. >> and like a bonus track hidden at the end of an album this is where the story gets better. >> this is one of the places i used to come in. >> one of those volunteers happens to be the owner of border land books over in the mission. >> he can't afford to risk the possibility of displacement we hear about all the time. >> turns out they were on the same page. >> its something people forget rent and people being evicted. but for a long time there's been people who have been good to their tenants. >> and with the additional help of individual loans from 50 borderlands customers they had a deal. >> we're not displacing anyone we're preserving local retail and basically the same sort of business. >> people in record and bookstores talk to each other. and you get to know people. >> over the past 5 or 6 years i have lost count of how many stories we've done on small san francisco businesses that have been priced out or pushed aside in this rapidly changing city. here we have a record store closing on its own terms and all of the cool stuff in here now belongs to all of us. >> everybody just stepped up to the plate. it was in a spirit of community. not so much of who it's going to make how much money but how much they could help. >> occasionally everything just lines up right and you're like now i know exactly what i should be doing. and that was the situation here. >> so all this weekday and night volunteers packed away records. >> we've got romance music from cuba. >> making room for the next borderland books and the history that was in the record store will keep on spinning. >> can we go and make the breadth of this expression permanent. that's the goal. >> there's the notion that the internet killed the record store,
