uncomfortable heat in the eastern united states. it's the kind of stifling heat that takes your breath away. today should be the peak of the latest heat wave. heat advisories are posted from oklahoma to alabama. it will feel like triple-digit temperatures across the south and into the northeast. in new york city the forecast is for a six-day run of temperatures of 90 degrees or higher. the high today is expected to be 95. the extreme heat is expected to affect power grids and officials say blackouts are inevitable. >> we serve 3.2 million metered customers that represents 9 million new yorkers throughout new york city and westchester every day. we will get pockets unfortunately of people who might lose power during the heat, and our crews are out there working in the heat to try to get the power back on as soon as they can. >> many cities have hit the 90-degree temperatures so far this year but not this many. it was so hot in north dakota that an interstate buckled. meteorologist eric fisher of our boston station wbz says relief for folks in the east should be on the way. we're seeing a lot of heat across the south over the last week plus and now the heat is on the move into the northeast. for wednesday and thursday, a hot midweek for the megapolis. also up and down from boston down to new york philly d.c., all seeing very hot temperatures into the 90s and rising humidity. the tough stuff is on the bottom where you have the high heat indices. some relief is on the way. cold front starts moving southward on wednesday that will start to bring some relief especially across missouri, kansas and driving southward for thursday. it will still be hot outside. temperature as few degrees cooler and humidity much lower. the heat started to move westward for the late week. you're starting to see the warmth across the west coast, central valley, kale all the way up to seattle. you could see record highs later this week and quite a few triple digits into the valleys. i'm arab i'm eric fisher for the cbs news. the heat moving to the west will further complicate efforts for firefighters to battle a wildfire in california. a fire jumped the containment line and forced 200 people to evacuate. it's brought on by rising humidity, heat, and gusting winds. in tucson, a couple riding in an suv were hit by floodwaters and swept into a wash tuesday. the suv flipped over. the cups was able to get out and swept downstream. they were eventually rescued by the fire department. police in chattanooga, tennessee, released video showing the dui arrest of the man who shot and killed four marines and a petty officer earlier this month. mohammad abdulazeez was arrested in april, three months before his shooting spree. the video shows him being pulled over after swerving over a dotted line. abdulazeez tells the officers the powder on his face was due to caffeine pills. he also admits to having a hunting knife in his car. he was killed in a shoot-out with police. an alleged isis supporter is under arrest in florida charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. prosecutors say harlem suarez planned to plant a bomb on the beach in key west in the u.s. he told an informant he wanted to make a remotely triggered nail bomb. he was arrested monday after allegedly buying components for the bomb. israel says it's looking forward to the release of jonathan pollard. pollard is a navy alt arrested for spying on israel. he was arrested in 1985. he stole a top secret manual to let israel identify some of the america's covert agents. also gave information to pakistan and south africa. the obama administration denies his release is part of the concession with israel on the deal with iran. on capitol hill intense lobbying is under way for supporters and possibilities with the nuclear deal with iran now that congress has begun its 60-day review. a frustrated secretary john kerry testified before the house yesterday. he accused members of not understanding the agreement and told them the agreement is not built on trust. >> we will continue to push back on iran on every front available, but the fact is it's a lot easier to push back against an iran that doesn't have a nuclear weapon rather than one that does. >> congress is expected to vote in september on the agreement. the new york state prison worker who admits to helping inmates escape prison faces up to seven years behind bars. joyce mitchell wore shackles while in court on tuesday. her voice was barely audible. she admitted to smuggling hacksaw blades inside meat for the two inmates. the nfl players' association says it will file a new appeal on behalf of tom brady. they're filing an injunction to keep him on the field. wendy gillette shows us the latest blow to the super bowl mvp's reputation. >> reporter: tom brady is expected to report to the start of patriots trining camp today as the ongoing deflategate saga continues to unfold. on tuesday the nfl rejected brady's appeal and upheld his four-game suspension. the league cited evidence where the star quarterback asked his assistant to destroy his cell phone along with thousands of text messages. he told the league that he routinely recycles his phone. football fans are weighing in. >> i would have given him one or two games. i don't know about the whole four but i think it's fair. >> i think it's a big mistake. i think brady wins this. that's my decision. in a statement the nfpla said, quote, the nfl had no procedure in place until two days ago to test air pressure in footballs. >> if the nfl thought that deflating football is such a competitive edge, why did they give the football to the teams in the first place. they didn't do this last year. that's why they're the magnitude 6.8 earthquake happened last night. it was centered about 145 miles southwest of anchorage near the volcano. our anchorage affiliate ktva was on the air when the quake hit. anchorage residents say they felt a slow rolling that lasted several seconds and then a jolt. following the earthquakes in oklahoma they shut down two wastewater and injection wells. wastewater and oil and gas drill has been linked to earthquakes in that state. the quake on monday and tuesday did not cause serious damage or injury. and coming up on the "morning news" a hunter becomes the hunted. a minnesota
