international sanctions on iran sparked a furious debate around the world. editorial pages are divide. >> they say the deal reduces the chances of war and calls it one of the most consequential agreements. it poses a major threat to the united states and its allies if iran does not keep its word. other critics called the deal a joke. president obama tells thomas friedman the deal will keep the world safer. >> this by a wide margin is the most definitive path by which iran will not get a nuclear weapon and we will be able, too chief that with the full cooperation of the world community and not having to engage in another war in the middle east. nancy, good morning. >> vice president joe biden is on the hill this morning trying to change some minds but republicans in particular are pretty entrenched and this is not a casual disagreement. no less than the speaker of the house john boehner says he'll do anything in his power to kill this deal. >> the deal we have out there, in my view from what i know thus far, is unacceptable. >> reporter: boehner's reaction was mild compared to some of his gop colleagues who called the deal dangerous and junior varsity foreign policy grounded in childlike optimism. >> reporter: mitch mcconnell -- what would have been an acceptable deal? >> a deal under which iran would not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. >> reporter: republicans and many democrats worry about some features. iran will be allowed to keep some nuclear material. international inspectors will not be granted blanket access to a site. and an embargo on iran beeuying conventional weapons. >> let's find out what we have first. >> reporter: harry reid urged lawmakers not to take sides before they've seen the fine print. >> republicans are so vocal in their opposition to this deal. does that give you pause and perhaps the administration could have done better? >> they should look and read the agreement first. i think it's unfair for them to start charging out determining now how they're going to vote on this. >> and hillary clinton visiting democrats called the deal an important step in stopping iran's nuclear program. >> we have to treat this as an ongoing enforcement effort which i certainly strongly support. >> reporter: that puts her at odds with many of her republican opponents who say if they are elected, they will do everything they can to rescind this international agreement. >> thank you nancy. iran's president said his country will no longer be called the threat to the world. iranians may be happy but other countries in the risingegion aren't so sure. charlie d'agata in london has the latest from the middle east. >> reporter: while there are those who believe a more transparent iran may reduce tensions in the region neighbors within reaching distance don't buy that it will stop iran from building a bomb and fear the financial wind fall will tip the balance of power. on the streets of tehran iranians celebrated a sharp intake of breath pointing to iran's support for hezbollah militants, shiite militias in iraq and h owouthi rebels. foreign minister javad zarif told cbs news -- >> it is important for people in the united states to look at the realities in the region and see who is supporting the instability and who is defending the region against the spread of extremism, violence and sectarianism, and then they will see. >> reporter: in a clear effort to reassure u.s. allies president obama is sending ash carter to the middle east next week. the only stop this close so far is israel where he'll have his work cut out for him. >> charlie d'agata, thank you. it does not address the fate of four american prisoners in iran. saeed abedini and jayen rezaian are being held. robert levinson has been missing since 2007. family and friends of the four men are pleading for their freedom. the obama administration is negotiating their release but the issue is kept separate from nuclear talks. cbs news will bring you live coverage later this morning. scott pelley anchors. the president expected to speak at 10:00 a.m. pacific time. this morning at least six people are still missing in kentucky after violent flooding. two people died from the rushing water. illinois and indiana are also dealing with severe weather. more than 150 homes were destroyed. don dahler is in stafforsesville, kentucky where a state of emergency is in effect. >> reporter: the rain has stopped for now but there's still a lot of flooding and high water in this area. you look at the debris in trees and you can see how high the water got at its apex. five or six feet above where i am now. declared a state of emergency as the search for the missing continues. a violent line of storms pummeling through the midwest has washed away homes and shattered communities. days of torrential rainfall have left people struggling to regroup. >> pure devastation. pure destruction. >> reporter: the floogd has turned deadly. at least six people have been reported missing. melissa blankenship has not been able to find her cousin who was helping others. >> she went under the water and he saved her and he got my grandmother to the porch. definitely a hero. >> reporter: it's sparked tornadoes and sent cars and trucks barreling into houses. at least 150 homes have been destroyed. >> i lost everything that i had. everything. except for my life and my son and i thank god that i didn't do that. >> reporter: brad tried to escape to his attic as the flooding intensified. >> everybody pretty much lost everything here. there's nothing left. which i'll never be coming back here. i've got three kids. i don't want to put them through this no more. it's rough. >> reporter: torrential rains last night forced authorities to call off the search. now that the skies have cleared, they hope to start them again this morning. >> don dahler in stafforsesville, kentucky. that same system is responsible for a tornado in tennessee that packed winds of more than 100 miles an hour and damaged dozens of buildings. matthew torres of wtvf is in tennessee with a closer look. >> reporter: good morning. we're here in putnam county just east of nashville where it was the hardest hit area after a confirmed ef-1 tornado rolled through here yesterday afternoon. plenty of work ahead for residents and crews. we have a tree uprooted at this particular home. several downed tree limbs. to my right, the garage the right end of the roof blew off with how strong the winds were. you can see a part of it just peeled off like a can. luckily nobody was hurt. this morning, surveillance video shows the moment joaquin el chapo guzman escaped from his mexican jail cell. the drug kingpin is pacing before he day peers from view behind a wall. he climbed into a tunnel. the united states has offered mexico marshals drones and a special task force to recapture him. omar villafranca has more. this is one of the courts that has indicted guzman in the united states. >> reporter: el chapo's cell was under surveillance 24 hours a day. but that didn't stop him or his crew from puling off one of the most brazen jail breaks. this newly released video provided by the mexican government shows his final moments in his jail cell before he slipped through a hole in the prison's shower. it was outfitted with electricity and ventilation pipes and even contained a motorcycle. authorities say joaquin guzman went to the shower saturday night and escaped through a 2 by 2-foot opening in the floor using a ladder to climb down into an elaborate five-foot tall tunnel which led to a construction site about a mile from the prison. mexican authorities are on the hunt for el chapo. u.s. law enforcement is equally eager to catch him. 2,000 miles away the chicago crime commission weighed in on the progress. >> the reason we're here is to voice our extreme dsispleasure at the mexican authorities that's aloud for the escape of one of the most dangerous criminals in the world. >> reporter: the most wanted man in mexico is now public enemy number one in chicago, responsible for waves of drug-related violence. >> that's why we have used the label as public enemy number one. he still remains culpable and he's prosecutable. and we want to see that happen as quickly as possible. >> reporter: but not everyone views guzman as a monster. people from his hometown celebrated his escape. >> we're glad this woman said. the work and jobs generated by el chapo benefit us. >> there's a romanticism if you will with the drug culture in mexico. >> some people see them as trusted leaders. they aren't robin hood because robin hood wouldn't behead you and mackke an example out of you and then go after your family. >> reporter: as of right now, they have not taken them up on their offer to help catch guzman. the jury gets the case of the alleged colorado theater gonesman james holmes. the prosecutor said holmes went into a screening of "the dark knight rises" bent on mass murder. the defense blames schizophrenia. if he's found sane he could face execution. nine women and three men will begin dlibeliberatedeliberating. there's newly released video showing the deadly police shooting of an unarmed california man two years ago. this video is disturbing. police in gardenia california shot ricardo diaz during a bicycle theft investigation. another man was wounded. a judge ordered the videos to be released after the city settled a lawsuit with the victims' families for $4.7 million. the best of baseball past and present trove of new images from pluto. they are being sent back from the outer edge of our solar system by the new horizon spacecraft. it 7 follows this up-close look at the dwarf planet. one picture gives you an idea of how far the historic mission traveled. pluto was just a tiny spot when it was discovered 75 years ago. vinita nair is here for the flawless fly-by. >> good morning. the new horizon spacecraft zipped past pluto tuesday morning after traveling 3 billion miles. it took the rest of the day before the team knew for sure the unprecedented mission was a success. >> we've recorded data of the pluto system and we're outbound for pluto. >> the new horizons team erupted into cheers just before 9:00 a.m. tuesday night after getting word nasa's spacecraft had survived its historic flight past pluto. mission operations manager alex bowman dubbed mom, guided the vessel along the solar system. >> you have a lot of faith in your children but sometimes they don't do exactly what you hope they will do but this spacecraft did exactly what it was supposed to do. >> reporter: the video signals arrived 13 hours after the probe made its close encounters it morning. the piano sized spacecraft came within 7700 miles of pluto and nearly 31,000 miles per hour. to mark the historic moment nasa released the clearest moment yet of the dwarf planet's icy world. scientists and space fans applauded the victory. president obama tweeted, pluto just had its first visitor. thanks nasa. it's a great day for discovery and american leadership. >> a mere total mystery. we finally know yes! talk to your doctor about oic and prescription treatment options. i can do that! witnesses will give new testimony today in the fraud trial of a lottery worker. he's accused of orchestrating the largest lottery scam ever. prosecutors say this was a 20th century inside job to win a $16.5 million jackpot. this is a story we've been following for months. elaine quijano is here with the details. elaine, this is a good one. >> it really is. good morning. eddie tipton was one of four people who had security clearance to the so-called drawing room. it was there he hacked into computers and added design software. prosecutors say this surveillance video shows a hooded and bearded eddie tipton buying a lottery ticket at a scenes store in 2010. he was then security director for the multi-state lottery association, making it illegal for him to play. he purchased the $16.5 million a ticket after he rigged the game in his favor. just two hours before it was to expire, they attempted to claim the money. >> not only did he purchase the tick and try to claim it. he tampered with the lottery ticket knowing what the numbers would be. >> the prosecution alegend he tampered with security cameras. examinations of the lottery's computers showed no signs of tampering. tipton's attorneys deny he was part of a scream and say it's not him in the surveillance video. >> this is a case about speculation. >> this is a very unique case in that most of the evidence that should be there is not and the prosecution's thee is because it was self-deleting. >> he says the highlights challenge what the prosecutors face. >> there's nothing linking him to the crime and all the evidence is hypercircumstantial so the defense in this case has a fairly powerful argument for reasonable doubt. >> there is one piece of digital evidence that could hurt the defense and his credibility. his cell phone records. if convicted tipton could face ten years in prison. >> he should have never made that call. >> cell phone records, did you say? (announcer) the subaru xv crosstrek. symmetrical all-wheel drive plus 34 mpg. love. it's what makes a subaru a subaru. a divorced couple is battling in sfix over the future of their frozen embryos. dr. mimi lee and her ex-husband stephen findley saved six embryos before her cancer treatment. she now wants to use the embryos to raise a biological child. he argues she is violating the agreement she signed at a fertility clinic and he wants those embryos destroyed. cbs news spoke with the woman's attorney. >> it's a question of whether an informed consent form gets to krolt the outcome of what to do with the embryos. if not, whose interests are greater using the embryos. we're saying this is not a contract. it's not binding on them. when you fill out an informed consent you give direction of what you want to have happen at this time and you should be able to change it in the future. >> or should you. that's the question. legal expert rikki klieman is here to discuss it. we had a big discussion in the hair and makeup room. you missed it this morning, charlie. >> i'm not in the hair and makeup room. >> norah and i are. >> it's an emotional issue. there's no question. people get very exorcised about this issue. >> people say they signed a deal if they get a divorce it would be destroyed. is that case over? >> it should be over at the time. i want to talk to you a little bit about what the lawyer just said. the lawyer for the female says, well, it's really not a contract. it's really an informed consent form. well, not so clear. it says it is a consent and agreement form. i mean the second full word in there after the ampersand is it's an agreement. and it's abundantly clear. it is unam biggous. after the divorce, the embryos are destroyed. so then if that tells us what the agreement says. we have to think about the circumstances of signing the agreement. these are intelligent people. these are people who read things. they had that agreement the week before they signed it. this is not as they walked in, she signed, he signed, and that's the end. she's a doctor. >> but now she can't have children. she's 46, 47. she's saying this is her last chance to have biological children. >> why not allow her to have the embryos? she's infertile because of the cancer treatments. why not allow her? >> i think we act on the basis of our agreements in society. >> they call it rule of law? >> and you know charlie, because i've discussed this with you head-to-head before. i think without the sanctity of contract our society falls apart. and so if two intelligent people sign something, understanding -- and by the way she's been divorced before. this is not a question where she's never thought about divorce. >> what has that got to do with having kds?
