Personally, i wouldnt trust it. Simply because . Simply because its not a professional administering it and i would want a doctor. Reporter the timetable as it stands now is the tests are expected to be ready for those within the sutter medical system before the end of the year. The hope is then to spread that out to the rest of the population by spring of 2021. In san carlo, scott budman, nbc bay area news. Scott, thank you. So we talk a lot about the spike in cases. Lets compare the numbers now. Nationally and here in california. The yellow line shows california cases. Per capita in our state. The blue line is the United States. Look at july now. We get to july, and you see that california is above the national average. Then we start to go down and the national average, the blue line starts to rise dramatically, in fact, its skyrocketing. Where we are today, the rate of cases in the u. S. Drastically higher than in california, so while the bay area and our state is experiencing a surge, it appears that we are better off than the rest of the country. Well, that is good news. So as the cases surge, were seeing the mad scramble for people hoarding supplies, the toilet paper, the paper towels. What you should be scrambling for legitimately is your thanksgiving dinner. Janelle wang joins us with what they could run out of. Yeah, jessica, first of all, thats right. We do not need to hoard toilet paper or paper towels. Theres plenty out there. Also, theres plenty of food so you dont need to hoard food and overstock your pantry or fridge. What you need to buy is thanksgiving meal right now. Because covid cases are surging and the California Grocers Association wants to prevent overcrowding next week in the Grocery Stores. So right now if you go to the store, theres plenty of potatoes, string beans and meat, but if youre looking for something more specific like a smaller turkey or just part of a turkey, at the Grocery Outlet in pleasant hill, the owner jason olson typically goes live on facebook to keep his shoppers updated on whats in stock. Olson says hes getting more orders of turkey breasts this year because people are downsizing thi downsizing their gatherings and dont need a whole turkey. Urging shoppers to buy frozen turkeys and nonperishable items to avoid long lines at the Cash Register next week. If youre looking for a smaller bird or parts of a turkey, i would suggest that you go in early. Theres still plenty of supply available now, but you need to do it this week. I typically kind of like to do it up, but im not going to ask anyone to potluck style. Ill probably take the burden on myself just because one person cooking i feel is safer than multiple homes cooking. Grocery stores are also hiring extra workers to stock the shelves this Holiday Season and also actor as a stores bouncers in charge of limiting the number of people inside the Grocery Store because of covid. Now, the Grossers Association is also urging shoppers to take advantage of online delivery options. So a lot of adjustments this year. People are doing smaller gatherings and they need smaller portions. I actually have to work, like you folks, next week. So i just try to order thanksgiving online at a Grocery Store. Some of the things have run out, like the turkey, but you could get a ham or prime rib. There is still mashed potatoes, Sweet Potatoes and cream of spinach, so that is good news. Sounds like you have a meal. Janelle, well be having thanksgiving here at the station next week. Well save some turkey if you. Heres the problem, we want to see our friends and family for thanksgiving so the guidance is get tested, but getting an appointment in the next few days to get tested is nearly impossible, and if you do get a test, is it a false sense of security . Here is nbc bay areas christie smith. Reporter the city covid testing site at the Farmers Market can test up to 500 people a day. All our test sites are seeing increased numbers of requests for appointments. Reporter the embarcadero gets booked out, but the city says there are other sites available and theyre working hard to meet demand. But that is becoming harder as cases surge and they want to remind people they dont have capacity for people looking to get tested to holiday travel. You can test negative today and be positive in four days. And thats why its really important to not think of a test as a green light to go intermingle. The safest thing is certainly to stay home, not to travel, dont expand your social bubble. Reporter dr. Jean noble is associate professor of emergency medicine at ucsf and director of covid response. She says if youre looking to test and travel, remember, it does get a bit more complicated than just getting tested. Not only do you have to be incredibly vigilant after you get that test to make sure that that negative result is still valid, but you need to be really careful about your behavior in the several days leading up to that test. Reporter timing is also critical. And understanding whats at stake. No test is perfect. You want to maintain all of those safety measures. Masks really work. Dont feel like if youre, you know, if youre having a gathering that you might as well just take off your mask. Reporter and if youre still planning to go, one more reminder. After you arrive home, you need to quarantine. The city and state both are recommending a 14day quarantine after travel. Ideally, you Layer Testing on to that as well. Reporter best advice, continue to stay home with those in your circle. In San Francisco, christie smith, nbc bay area news. A lot is happening with the warriors tonight, and most of it is not good. The helicopter dubbed the cal fire hawk can cruise at 160 Miles Per Hour, hold more cargo and crew, including a 1,000gallon watertank, compared to the current 325gallon bucket. Obviously there mse water capability, but the safety factor is the twin engine history. Where the old are singleengine aircraft. So it increases that safety margin. The crew operated quickly and efficiently, but eventually the blackhawk will arrive with the latest rescue hoists, allowing for Faster Response and more complicated rescues. The air rescue program started as a program to rescue firefighters from a fire line. And as morphed into rescuing civilians as well. So obviously with the winter months coming up, there is a potential for flooding and watertype rescue.
