So thats some good news, especially for those of you in marin, napa and sonoma counties where we had some 20s and 30s this week. We are starting to see those temperatures, that cold beginning to fade. Lets bring in the microclimate forecast and take a look at my weather dashboard here. I did want to start off tonight with a look at those cold temperatures and the morning lows and the trend that were going to be seeing as we head throughout the next ten days. I think youll be happy with this to not be getting down into the 20s and low 30s. It will stay cool, but youll see as we head through friday, were down into the upper 30s and 40s for morning lows returning saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, and thursday of next week. Then for the following weekend we would start to see some colder 30s beginning to move back in. Now, daytime highs will remain cool for tomorrow. Its going to stay pretty much the same no matter where you head across the bay area. Because weve had these backtoback weaker systems moving over and theyve all had cold air with it. So its not really letting our microclimates kind of edge in there. So temperatures overall pretty consistent here. Santa rosa at 61. Livermore, 63. Down to san jose, 61. And palo alto, there you go, similar temperatures, also at 61 degrees. Well have some cloud cover lingering tomorrow, but were going to hold off on the rain chances until friday. Now, we can really use it, even though weve had a little bit lately. Lake shasta dipping down to 77 of normal. Southern california reservoirs doing good from some unusual rainfall they had this past year, but for us here in northern california, we definitely need to pick up on that wet weather. Not to be lost in the national election. All the results of our local elections. This is where much of the change actually happens. Police funding, housing, equal rights. The list goes on. Among the notable changes, the oakland city council. Carol fife is the organizer behind this. Remember the moms for housing . That movement got National Attention after officers forcefully evicted that group of homeless moms that took over an empty home in oakland. Our Investigative Unit followed the story for the past year. We continue to follow the story. Ultimately those moms got to stay in that home legally. Well, carol fife now joins us from her home in oakland. Carol, nice to have you on the program. Congratulations being elected to the city council in oakland. Were you surprised by the Election Results . Honestly, i was not surprised. If i thought that the results would not come in as they did, then i wouldnt have run. I think were dealing with a group of people, a group of residents, many thousands throughout this the district that wanted to see a change, and thats what happened. Carroll, how are they doing in that house, those moms that we were talking about . Were actually we just got the permits approved through the city of oakland and were in the process of rehabbing the house right now. When wedgewood owned it, it was in disrepair, so were getting it habitable for homeless mothers to live there in a form of transitional housing. Carroll, i think a lot of people when they first heard about this story were up in arms like, oh, my gosh, how can you overtake a vacant home . You start to unravel all the issues here. Is that what youre trying to communicate to the familcommuni . That is exactly what were trying to communicate. That act of nonviolent civil disobedience was to draw attention to the housing crisis so many people are experiencing across oakland and the entire bay area and the state of california. So we wanted to make it really clear for people that housing is just not affordable to thousands of residents. And something needs to change and something needs to happen quickly. Carroll, youve been a Community Activist for a long time. Is that the same as a politician . Do you see a difference there or is it one in the same now . I do see a difference. I think that was one of the key differences that created such a wave in my campaign. We had over 700 people sign up to volunteer to participate and 350 active seven days a week. The difference between an organizer and a traditional politician is that we are always created and sustained by the people, by movements. And i said during this campaign, if you dont get it then you dont got it, and got it the it is people power and the energy that actually transforms our communities. Does the rest of the city council and the mayor and people in oakland get it in terms of how important this housing issue is . I think the results of my campaign and just the sheer volume of funds that we were able to raise, the number of people that participated, i think its undeniable, the movement that catapulted me into office. I think even if people wanted to ignore it or disregard it, its not deniable. So i think people get it. Whats the biggest hurdle you face right now as you move forward as a new City Council Member in oakland . I think the biggest hurdle is something that were all experiencing, and that is the challenges of covid19. And what that means for our economy. For the job market. For our city revenues. I think that is probably the biggest hurdle that we all have to tackle collectively. And luckily because i am an organizer and a movement person, i think its something that i dont have to face alone, and its something that we all are gonna have to put our best thinking together to create solutions, and im looking forward to that challenge and that opportunity. Last question. Would you ever run for mayor . Oh no. Well, no, im not interested in that office. I want to do a really, really good job being a City Council Member and thats what im going to focus on right now. Well talk to you in a couple years. Carroll, thank you for your time and congratulations again on your victory. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks so much, carroll. Were going to go back to our coverage of the pandemic. Right over through the east bay we have 61 in vallejo. 63 in livermore. And 62 in fremont. The peninsula also more of these 50s and 60s from Half Moon Bay down to palo alto. Winds relatively light tomorrow. We should get a few breaks of sun for the afternoon and 55 here in the marina. So, really, jacket weather all across the bay area. North bay 62 in sonoma and 60 in clear lake. So tomorrow stays dry, but, again, as ive been mentioning, we had that chance of rain ahead. So let me show you whats been happening with this. Our rain chances really have kind of condensed down to friday for that best possibility. You can see at 5 00 in the morning on friday, we have that rain off to the north. And then as we advance the timeline, well see the best chance of some rain here through friday afternoon and evening over the bay area. And then that would also bring some sierra snow. Now, the sierra snow totals look like we could get a quick hit here of about a foot of snow at some of the highest elevations. King veil at 12 inches. Kirkwood 7 and South Lake Tahoe at 4. So it really is kind of a oneday event here for us to get the best possibilities of rain. You can see in my extended forecast, 50s and 60s. Lucy, come back over so you can say bye to everybody. Come on over. Up, up, up. Over for the inland valleys, were also looking for the 60s as we head through the next couple of days with friday our best chance for rain. Spotty chance there early saturday morning, but most of the weekend should be dry and then another chance as we head into next wednesday. All right. Have a seat. Okay. Shes back. She really thought i was going to throw that ball in the house. So well have to go outside and give that a toss a little bit later on. The personal attacks arent helping, karly. Dont you have like a hot pilates class to get to or something . [ muffled scream ] stop living with at t. Xfinity can deliver gig to the most homes. For the first time this season, the niners will hear the roar of an actual crowd, not in santa clara but in new orleans. That crowd wont be cheering for the 49ers. No. But thats okay. It still brings life to the players. And guess what . Richard sherman might be back in the lineup. Here is nbc bay areas anthony flores. Reporter after months of taking the field in empty stadiums with artificial crowd noise, the 49ers are finally going to play a game in front of real fans. I think it will excite the guys a little bit. I mean, its been different playing in front of no fans this year. I think it will give a little bit more energy. Reporter this weekend the 49ers travel to new orleans where the saints are allowing 6,000 fans at the game. Its always exciting to have people in the building watching and playing football and, you know, thats what this game is made for. It is exciting. Just the fact we havent been able to play in front of fans the entire season. And even now if its just a few, thats still great to me. Reporter another thing thats great for the 49ers, seeing this guy back in uniform. Though hes unlikely to play this weekend, the team was excited to see Richard Sherman practicing for the First Time Since going on injured reserve back in week two with a calf strain. A real long shot for this week, but the fact hes doing everything he can, thats why i love having him here. Thats why he leads by example more than anything, and i think that excites the guys. Reporter even if sherman is able to suit up, this is going to be a big challenge for a team in last place in the ncfc west. The saints are tied for the best record in the conference and riding a fivegame winning streak. Their offense is playing at an alltime high right now. Just like we saw last year, drew brees is still doing it at a high level. We love the challenge. Reporter and even though they will go to new orleans undermanned because of injuries players on the covid19 list, this team Still Believes it could turn around their season. Weve lost what weve lost this year. Its really hard to maintain competitiveness and staying the course. But the cool thing about it is its like no matter whats happened this year, we still have a chance. Reporter and that chance begins sunday in new orleans. Anthony flores, nbc bay area. 49ers saints, raiders broncos. Remember when you used to predict the scores every week . Still doing that . I was accurate. I lost my fame.
