That amendment clarifies the process of replacing a president with the vice president. It was created after the kennedy assassination. But if a president is sick, like when Woodrow Wilson suffered a stroke, the process is murky. Pelosi says she wants clarity by creating a team of doctors and former Administration Officials that would evaluate the president s fitness. We have to give some comfort to people that there is a way to do this, very respectful of not making a judgment on the basis of a comment or behavior that we dont like, but based on a medical decision. Reporter anna stopped with her kids and found out outdoor playgrounds in the city are expected to reopen next week. My number one rule is the common sense. Officials say because of capacity limits and expected popularity, its a good idea to have a couple of backup locations in mind. In San Francisco, Christie Smith, nbc bay area news. As more families head outdoors, a reminder were not only dealing with the pandemic but also flu season. We get our nbc flu shots next week apparently. Yeah, on wednesday. So what are the differences . How do you know you have the flu and you dont panic that you have the coronavirus instead or vice versa. Janelle wang joins us with more. We talk about this all the time, janelle. Do i have the flu . Do i have the coronavirus . Theres a little bit of paranoia. Well, its hard to tell the difference. Covid and the flu are very similar, so similar doctors say people with covid have flulike symptoms. Both are respiratory illnesses. Both have symptoms including cough, fever, fatigue, muscle pain. But one clear distinction, covid patients, some of them experience loss of taste and smell before they feel sick. Usually doctors can easily diagnose if you have the flu, but with the two illnesses so similar, you most likely have to take a test now to confirm if its just the flu and not covid. Both are deadly, but covid is deadlier, killing more than 200,000 people in the u. S. So far compared to the flu last year, which killed 22,000. Now, taking this test and finding out which virus you have is important, so doctors can take the appropriate measures to treat you and protect others. There are new tests coming on the market which can rapidly distinguish between the two. Flu diagnostics are not something that we think about a lot, but its not something thats terribly common. Usually when you have the flu and if youre sick enough to go to a doctor with the flu, he or she is going to diagnose you mostly clinically. Its not necessarily going to be done in a laboratory because flu is very easily to recognize normally. That being said, with the onset of covid19 and the similarities between the two, we really want to distinguish who has covid because theyre much more infectious and in much more trouble than someone that normally has flu. And then also get the flu patients away from anyone that might have covid. So we dont want to mix those two patients or populations and get the people with covid isolated and treated appropriately. The coronavirus is deadlier and more contagious, and the effects of covid can linger for much longer than the flu. Now, janmark diagnostics located in Southern California received fda emergency authorization this week for its rapid test. It tests for 20 different viruses, including the coronavirus and influenza. Similar tests are expected to hit the market very soon. One way to help reduce the spread of this twindemic, get a flu shot. Doctors say, jessica, its more important than ever. Thats for sure.
