Meantime the president is not scrapping the Coronavirus Task force. He said he was going to shut it down but now 24 hours later the president said he is going to not only keep it but expand it. N idea how popular the task force is untilually yesterday when i started talking about winding it down. Its a big deal. Governor newsoms massive n95 mask deal is now on hold but in the process the state will be getting a refund. It calls for millions of masks each month but the company failed to meet the deadline for the u. S. Federal certification. Now it has until the end of may to meet the certification or repay the money it received. A Police Officers union selli selling masks. And then a new mobile Testing Program for essential workers and the homeless. Yesterday we talked about that shocking jobs data coming out of adp and 20 Million People cut from rolls. Going down to the weekly jobless claims, we just got those, 3. 169 million americans cut from the rolls and added to Unemployment Benefits last week. If theres any good news in there its that that number is declining from its alltime high. We get the jobless Unemployment Rate tomorrow. To all of this we can add several things. The latest layoffs, trip adviser says its letting 900 employees go, and palo alto is letting a number of employees go and until now, pure tech avoided most of the big layoffs. Sectors like rideshare andak th brunt of layoffs. Tesla is back in the news. Once again theres talk about a factory opening up before the rules would allow it to. This coming from the chronicle who is quoting an anonymous source that nbc has not been able to confirm, but we have spoken to local Law Enforcement that has assured us tesla will make no cars before its time. The first paycheck protection loans are a few weeks old and they are only good for eight weeks and Small Businesses will have to start thinking about paying them back or trying to turn them into grants. The ceo said they are working overtime to meet the demand, and they have increased production by almost half but thats still not enough. I think in all of our microclimates we will be close to a high record, and were well above normal as we should be in the 70s around this time in may. Morgan hill reaches 89, while antioch will reach 93 degrees, but still staying cool along the coastline. Over the next s as a storm system arrives and may even bring us rain early next week. The Sacramento County sheriff is under fire after a post that he put out calling for the county stayathome order to be lifted. Scott jones says he stands by his controversial facebook post. He believes its time for people to come out of their homes and the economy to be restarted. He said businesses should not open at all once the governor ge the governor needs to have a better plan to get back to work sooner. The budget for the county entirely is pretty devastating, so as we look towards next years fiscal year, we are facing significant cuts. The countys Public Health order is in effect until may 22nd. Not far away from there shoppers are being allowed to return to a mall in yuba city. The Health Office gave the thumbs up for the mall to slowly reopen with new guidelines and safety precautions. Cases are said to be low in yuba county with just 19 total confirmed. Many Families Financial Health and really survival is hinging on the federal stimulus payments, but some checks were sent to people that actually already died, and now after weeks of confusion, the federal government wants that money back. Chris chmura has been pressing the treasury for answers. We have heard from families in the last several months, where stimulus checks were received for a person that already passed away, and first the irs would not say if they could keep the money, and then a tax pro said, yes, they could keep it, and then the federal government said a payment made to somebody that died before receipt of the payment should be returned to the irs. If it was direct deposit, you have to write a personal check and mail it in. If you got a paper check, write void on the backside where you would sign it and mail it back in. Breaking news we are following out of the east bay this morning, an explosion blows a roof off of a warehouse and there were two people inside the warehouse when it happened. Today in the bays bob redell was one of the first reporters on the scene out there. Do you have new information for us . Reporter there may have been three people in there, and two people were just taken into custody by the police, and i spoke to the man earlier, and he said he was in the warehouse when it exploded.
