Reporter as soon as the sun set, delores park cleared out. Seems there are lots of people here and across the bay area who decided they needed to soak in some sun despite the ongoing pandemic. Tonight Law Enforcement is still on patrol around delores park. But this afternoon, volunteers with the San FranciscoPolice CommunityEngagement Team braved the crowds, working to make sure people were following the rules, and they passed out face coverings for those who needed them. In pacifica, police did something similar at the beaches but along with telling people the rules, they also asked lots of people to leave. San mateo county beaches are open but only to people who live within a fivemile radius. Melina johnson and Stephanie Martinez just drove in from the east bay and hadnt seen the police patrolling. Like i would be disappointed if like i had to leave, you know, if they would make us leave from the beach or something because we did come from hayward. But then again, i do understand, you know. Like quarantines hard, so we just needed the day to breathe and come to the beach randomly. Reporter most pacifica residents appreciate the police efforts, especially on a busy day. I was a little bit uncomfortable when i first came because it was busy. Reporter in monterey county, beaches were so packed, police in Pacific Grove had to shut down the popular lovers point park because visitors werent properly social distancing. Across the bay area and beyond, Public Health officials are pleading with people to continue social distancing efforts and use masks when out in public, and stay home. Speaking of all that, in sausalito, starting tomorrow the city will be closing all city parking lots on weekends and holidays all because of overcrowding, a lack of social distancing. Today people headed to beaches to soak up the sunshine. Apparently it was too much. The Police Department will start citing people for nonessential travel and for violating safe distancing rules. Lets take a look at the latest numbers right now. Tonight marin county reporting 11 new cases. The total up there, 223. Sonoma county now reporting 218 cases. Across the bay area, close to 7,400 cases. At least 259 people have died. After more than four decades of popular san jose restaurant is closing in good tomorrow in part because of the strain covid19 has placed on the business. Reporter employees say like all restaurants, Emperor Nortons struggled with increasing rent, labor, and food costs. But it was coronavirus that packed an unexpected punch. You think about something thats been around this long and has done well, and then to have this happen, its pretty sad. Reporter but for some who are selfemployed, hope my be on the horizon. On tuesday the state will start accepting applications under a new program called pandemic unemployment assistance. The owner of fashion plus in san jose says she plans to apply for the help since covid19 forced her to close her store for more than a month. Employees say its been tough tonight, saying goodbye to longtime customers because they cant even hug them because of social distancing. As weve been reporting, Health Experts say testing is going to be a crucial part of moving forward during this pandemic. In San Francisco, at least 2,000 people are registered for ucsfs free Mission District testing project. Everyone in the missions encouraged to get tested over the next few days to help researchers understand how the virus is affecting the community. Data shows about a quarter of all positive covid19 tests in the city are from the latino community, which only makes up 15 of the citys population. One challenge is some, especially undocumented immigrants, are too scared to get tested or get government help. I want to make very clear that thats not true in the case of covid19, that the immigrant population can accept medical services, offers of hotels to isolate and quarantine. The push to test everyone in the Mission District is similar to the operation in bolinas earlier this week, which became the first place in the United States to test everyone in the community. The World Health Organization is now stepping back a bit from a warning that it issued earlier today. The w. H. O. Said there is no evidence yet that people who have recovered from covid19 are protected against a second infection. It warned against people with antibodies being cleared for work or travel. Tonight the organization is saying, quote, we expect that most people who are infected with covid19 will develop an antibody response that will provide some level of protection. They continue to urge more research. Doctors in San Francisco making progress on a therapy they expect will help many patients fight off the virus. Last night, the first unit of plasma was infused into a patient in the icu. Weve used this kind of therapy since polio. Weve used it in sars and mers. We even used it in hepatitis a before the vaccine. So, again, theres a lot of biologic plausibility. Again, covid19 is different so we need to rigorously study it. Dr. Chin hong explained the plasma delivers an army of white blood cells that can stun the virus. Potentially dialing back the White House Coronavirus briefings or stopping them completely. Now, on thursday President Trump asked his medical experts whether uv light and disinfectants can be injected into patients to kill the virus. Since then, backlash has been building. Doctors cautioning people not to use those products as potential treatments. During fridays briefing, mr. Trump did not take questions from reporters. Today he didnt even hold a briefing. According to reports, aides and allies of mr. Trump encouraged him to do fewer, shorter sessions with reporters. Some are saying the president s comments were taken out of context, though. I would suggest the media not take him out of context. I think this president has consistently said from the beginning that people should consult with their doctors. Earlier today in a tweet, President Trump hypothetical President Trump hinted at stopping the conferences because the media, quote, asked hostile questions. San francisco opened up another area to walkers and bikers this weekend. This is in the presidio. All part of the effort to give people more space to be outside, safe from traffic, six feet apart. This is the first time the presidio has done anything like this. Its in effect weekends from 7 00 in the morning to 4 00 in the afternoon. New at 11 00, concerns about an arrest in oakland caught on camera. Heres the scene just after 7 00 friday night in the east oakland collectives parking lot. Police say they detained a person at gunpoint because that person matched the description of a shooting suspect. Community activists say the person detained was one of several outreach workers who had just finished handing out supplies to the homeless. Theyre now questioning why police decided to detain that volunteer in the first place. Police do tell us the person they detained was not the shooting suspect, but did have an outstanding warrant. This monday, restaurants and movie theaters can open in georgia although some owners say theyre not ready. Theyre anxious about opening those doors. Americas meat supply on the brink of a shortage. A number of meat plants across the nation remain shut as the pandemic continues. A shortage of pork, chicken, and beef could happen soon. In pact, processing rates are down 25 . Now, a shortage might not last long. One expert puts it in perspective. What it means to consumers is, you know, there may be temporary stockouts at the grocery store. So you may not find your favorite cut of pork or your favorite cut of beef at the grocery store. But this is temporary. The supply chains will adjust. One thing that is clear, the shortage will impact prices at grocery stores. Its a glimpse of what our new normal could look like. Glass booth dividers being set up in restaurants across spain as that country prepares to lift its lockdown. Thermal cameras are also being put in some restaurants. You know, the fog is rolling in, and its a sign of some changes ahead as we begin to see the low clouds surging back in, coupled with a stronger sea breeze tonight. Lets show you. The view from at least what we can still see of San Francisco right now after a day of 71 degrees. Were seeing temperatures cooling into the mid50s. Notice the wind speed, 17 miles per hour. A breezier finish to the weekend expected tomorrow and more of that sea breeze should take the edge off some of those temperatures on the inner bay and coast. Temperatures still hanging on to the 60s. Wind not quite as strong, but even around san jose we should see cooling as we make our way through the end of the weekend. Just brief cooling because temperatures are going to rebound as we head towards tuesday and wednesday. As we head through the area, midtoupper 60s still around concord. Wind speeds are trending a bit more onshore, obviously closer to San Francisco and even inland into solano county. Overnight tonight well begin to see more of the low clouds and patchy fog like were seeing now in San Francisco, spilling locally across the bay. And, yes, the low clouds and that ocean airconditioning being a bit Stronger Tomorrow will make for some cool changes around the coast. Mannly low 60s to mid70s around. Inland Contra Costa County or down towards morgan hill, youll still see temperatures los to the upper 70s and low 80s for another day. As we head towards tomorrow morning, would not be surprised to have a little bit of drizzle with some of those low clouds to start the day. As we head through the afternoon, gradual clearing but even with the sun near the coast, the winds will be onshore from about 15 to 20 miles per hour. As we go hour by hour, those wind speeds stay relatively gusty along the coastal hilltops and even inland. Thats going to help to take our temperatures down a little bit as we get into sunday and monday. Notice how High Pressure does start to build back once again. Looks like by tuesday could see very similar temperatures to what we had today. A few areas possibly back into the upper 80s tuesday into wednesday. Then the second half of the week gets a bit more interesting. As we head towards next saturday, youll notice a weather system here that brings a chance of maybe a few showers in the north bay. At this point looks more like cooling, maybe some breezy conditions as we head towards next weekend. And those are the roller coaster changes ahead in your sevenday forecast. You see San Francisco rebounding a little bit there on tuesday. Temperatures climbing into the 70s. And valley temperatures again looking more like july than the end of april, but thats the way its shaping up. Notice mid80s as we head through the middle part of the week. Next weekend, stay tuned.
