Its a key step to creating the first new Military Branch in 70 years, what President Trump calls the space force. We are preparing to dominate the newest fighting domain by establishing a sixth branch of the military. Space command will over see Satellite Operations and warning systems, and the Administration Says its necessary to combat the threat from americas adversaries in space. Theres a threat out there and its being handled by the u. S. Air force today and doesnt make sense to build a whole other level of bureaucracy. Initial estimates of creating a space force range from 2 to 13 billion in the first five years. It is up to congress to approve any new branch of the military, and that includes a space force. Lord taylor has been purchased by a San Francisco company for 100 million. There are homes in california worth more than 100 million. Forever 21, one of the biggest ball tenants, so it would be a big blow to malls. The chinese said they would not answer our tariffs with their own tariffs yet. The number shows our trade deficit is getting bigger, not smaller even in a trade war. So its good news about the tariffs for any electronics maker, fitbit, for example, may be based in San Francisco but the watches are coming out of china. Theres a new fitbit that will have alexa in it, 200 bucks and it will be out in two weeks. We were talking about the confusion over certain macbook pros not being allowed on airlines, and they talked about how complicated it was, and there were too many questions. The airlines are saying no macbook pros can be in packed luggage, but you can carry them on. Do go to apple if you have a macbook pro, and find out if it needs to be recalled. You need to look it up and get it done. We have a big followup for you here. A massive cat getting a new lease on life. Look at the size of that thing. We first told you about the 2yearold cat last week, and hes weighing in at a whopping 26 pounds and being adopted by a new family. 3,000 people applied for the pet who was up for adoption at a pennsylvania animal shelter. The shelter showed bj to the world in a tweet and that quickly went viral. That brought 1,800 in donations, and that just covers the cat food alone. Yeah, that family had a really strong table. Bj is going, not you, not you. Maybe we will be following bj on social media soon. I would not be surprised. Lets talk about this cooler weather as you get ready to head out on this thursday morning. Its going to be so nice. Remember those triple digits we had inland earlier this week . That will be a distant memory because we are starting out with clouds and it will be cooler. Thats a live look outside over san jose. Low 60s throughout the morning, and we will see the clouds moving by and then every now and then the sun will peek out and it will be all clear around noon, and that will help keep our temperatures down, and we will be in the 70s today, and you can head out for a run today in pleasanton. We dont have to limit our time outside because it will be a nice day in the trivalley. Our south bay high temperature, 79 degrees. Really nice and slightly below normal. In San Francisco, the embarcadero will reach up to 66 degrees with breezy winds and a little bit of breeze making its way into santa rosa, but it will be hot and clear with a high of 89. We are starting to see the storm system approaching the Pacific Northwest with its counter clockwise wind flow, it brings in an ocean breeze and thats helping to give a relief here with the high heat. By the end of the weekend, that lives on and the temperatures in the valleys start to get hotter but we are not seeing any extreme heat here in the 7day forecast. Inland highs reaching through the 80s today, and then low 90s on sunday. We will also start out the week with very warm weather and then gradually cool down just a couple degrees by the middle of next week, and for San Francisco, low 70s and very nice for the Holiday Weekend. Mike, you were sorting out the commute through Contra Costa County. Yeah, the lanes just filled in, and fastrak filling in, and we have another crash getting past highway 4, and there you see the maze. There you see Contra Costa County with highway 4 the worst of the drives. The peninsula, theres a disabled vehicle in lanes, northbound 101, and thats jamming up from candlestick and on the approach heading up 101. 280 is a nice route towards San Francisco. No problem there. We are looking at the volume build as a crash is reported in hayward and doesnt look like a problem for the nimitz, but we will keep an eye over that. You see these tapping of the brakes lights, and we expect it, and it should smooth out over the next few. Back to you. Thank you. Several families still rebuilding their homes told us they are about to lose vital insurance payments for temporary Living Expenses. Brad is one of those people. Hes building here while renting elsewhere. Brad says his temporary Housing Allowance will end at the twoyear anniversary of the fires even if his home is not complete. Brad feels that twoyear cutoff ignores the construction delays so many faced. It was pretty well stated in the first few months after these fires that this is not going to be just a regular rebuild process. Brad and others told us they expected payments for Living Expenses until their homes were rebuilt, but the Insurance Industry told us thats not how it works. Tonight at 11 00 we dig into this predicament. We will explain how there are likely deadlines in your policy, too. We will also look at what the insurance commissioner is urging Insurance Companies to do to help fire victims make ends meet. I will join you again tonight at 11 00. Sounds good. 6 25 right now. Trending this morning, School Uniforms are changing backtoschool shopping. More than 40 of the nations Public Schools and preschools now require uniforms. The major retailers are taking note. Still a wide range in temperatures, and we are lead into a long Holiday Weekend. I will talk about some of the places you may be heading. Mike, now you have a delay for bart commuters. Yeah, the warm springs station in the south bay, we have an issue towards the richmond line. Some sort of equipment line, and doesnt sound anything major but ten minutes is the start of the delay right now. The rest of the systems look great, and the drive looking well as well. Southbound 880, thats the slower drive through hayward and thats typical as far as the pattern goes. We are preceding a Holiday Weekend so we have a lighter volume overall. As bay area kids go back to school they will likely have active shooter drills. Its a sad but necessary reality. Some Bay Area School districts are doing more than that, they are empowering students to Say Something if they hear or see something that doesnt seem quite right. New for enthuse morning, and only on today in the bay, kris sanchez joining us with more on a new app that gives the kids a chance to stop potential violent behavior. This is a good thing. Reporter marcus, consider this fact. In 80 of the school shootings, the gunman told somebody about their violent plans ahead of time or showed some sort of other warning signs, and thats the reason for the Say Something anonymous reporting system created by the Sandy Hook PromiseNational Violence prevention program. It allows students to send a confidential tip for anything about violence, bullying, self harm. We know students hear things in conversations and see things online that we dont see, so ideally we would like to come and report that to a trusted adult on campus, and that may not be possible and we want to give them another avenue to report that to prevent students from harming themselves or others. Reporter in addition to Brentwood Union and martinez unified, folks tell me they are working with six otheray Area School Districts to take the app live, contra costa, and San Francisco unified, Walnut Creek School district along with East Side School high school district, and you cant report something at another school, and you work with Law Enforcement so they can assess the threat and come up with an intervention, and the app is free for school districts. Can you find all the information on my social media platforms. Giving kids another out let if they see or hearing is. Thank you. 6 33. We could guess that Driver Distraction could be a factor, you know, and increased time constraints and rushing around and people are driving more, so they are exposed to driving more, and, of course, more crashes happen including redlight running crashes. Experts say red light cameras could make intersections safer, but investigators say the driver of a tesla ran a red light and clipped a mini cooper, and dashcam later seen confirmed those suspicions. Police arrested the tesla driver and they estimate it was going about 45 Miles Per Hour when it went through that intersection triggering a Chain Reaction crash.
