Crews will break ground on a six and a half mile fire break along highway 17 from los gatos up to the summit. The idea is to create an escape route for the event of a fire and evacuation and also to stop any potential fire from reaching the roadway. People we talked to say this is necessary. Officers were responding to a fight in a busy street, then without warning a car plowed through the scene, hitting two people. Both were taken to the hospital, however, neither was seriously injured. Police are still searching for the driver involved. That is really upsetting video. This morning the lapd is investigating a possible hate drim after transgender women were removed from a downtown bar. Lgbt protesters outside that bar. A cell phone video from friday night shows bouncers removing two transgender women. The women say they were out with colleagues from a nonprofit that works with the lgbt community. A couple began shouting slurs when the argument escalated and the restaurant staff asked them to leave. However one transgender woman says they were the only ones who were taken out by force. They used Excessive Force<\/a> with us, directly towards us, and they didnt do the same treatment to the other people. The restaurant calls this a rare incident saying their employees acted within their policy. It also promised to donate some of the proceeds to the lgbt nonprofit, where those women work. There are investigators on scene, some of them just started taking off, but there were some investigators, you can see there in the darkness, still in front of this apartment complex right there, where theyre using flashlights looking near that tree just beyond the red car. Lets look at some video from overnight. The Police Captain<\/a> tells us they first received a call about a man shot at the gym nearby, the 24hour fitness, but found a man with gunshot wounds across the street on moser lane here, and kearney. The captain confirms an offduty San Francisco<\/a> Police Officer<\/a> shot the man, but police did not give details on what led up to the shooting. They also did not say whether the officer just got off of work or lives in this area. So back here live, police say the man does not have gunshot wounds that are lifethreatening, so that is the good news, but we are still trying to figure out more details on what led up to this shooting. Reporting live in el cerrito, im Sharon Katsuda<\/a>, today in the bay. Some Shopping Centers<\/a> across the state are on alert after three separate robberies in crowded spaces sunday. In the south bay three robbers caused a big scare and a lockdown at great mall in milpitas. Today in the bays bob redell is live there now. In the wake of the Mass Shootings<\/a> across the country, including the one in gilroy this was terrifying for a lot of people. A lot of people talking about it. Reporter kris and marcus, hundreds of shoppers here at the great mall panicked last night because a number mistakenly thought there was an active shooter here on the scene. Take a look at your tv screen. Cell phone video shows some of the people running away from the property, others hid inside storage rooms in the back of the stores. Shoppers tell us they heard loud sounds around 7 30 last night near a Jewelry Store<\/a>. Someone yelled gunman which started a chain reaction. People posted there was an active shooter at the great mall which added to the chaos and confusion. As it turns out there was no active shooter but three men did go into the diamonds by klary store smashed the displays and stole jewelry. Everyone went on lockdown and everyone was running in the hallways look a stampede. It was kind of scary. I was trying to get away from that area. I just, you know, i felt like i was in a movie. I felt like, you know, we see all those, everything on the news. I just didnt want nothing to happen to my kids. Reporter Milpitas Police<\/a> did lock down the mall for a few hours and with the help of the Santa Clara County<\/a> sheriff, san jose police, chp and mall security, they conducted a sweep of the property to see if anyone was hurt and also to confirm whether or not there was an active shooter which i mentioned there wasnt. They cleared the mall around 10 40 last night. Law enforcement is still looking for the three robbers. Reporting live in milpitas, bob redell, today in the bay. Thank you, bob. As we mentioned, oddly this was one of three cases involving similar scenarios hours apart across the state. In modesto four men shattered Jewelry Store<\/a> glass at vintage fair mall and shoppers mistook that sound for gunfire and people ran for their lives, happened about 5 00 in the evening. After the mall was evacuated police determined no shots were fired. Earlier in the day in Southern California<\/a> smash and grab robbers targeted a Neiman Marcus<\/a> store. Shoppers said they thought it was an active shooter as well. Police determined there were no shots fired there. Officers made two arrests in connection with what was a robbery. Happening today, one of four people accused in a shootout that sparked chaos at san brunos tanforan mall is due in court for a plea hearing. This happened in early july. It sent people running for their lives. Four people were injured. Authorities eventually arrested three juveniles and one adult. That adult, 18yearold deandre gant, is due in court today in redwood city. Snowfall now in eastern Contra Costa County<\/a> the search for a missing man in the waters of Discovery Bay<\/a> is considered a recovery effort. Authorities say efrin cruz and a friend were fishing in an inflatable raft around 4 00 in the morning yesterday when the raft popped. His friend swam back to shore but cruz did not make it. First responders searched for hours as people who live nearby looked on. I thought it was perhaps just a training mission, because i saw them every 30 minutes or so circling back and forth. So it was hard for me to learn that it was somebody in dire need. The coast guard says that the two men were not wearing life jackets. 5 36. Were still talking about the weekend and it was pretty nice if you were along the coast, but it was so hot in the valleys and were going to see still some warm weather inland, and going into this upcoming weekend, but not as hot as it was, so were coming down as we get closer to that labor day weekend, and then for San Francisco<\/a>, some upper 60s and low 70s. Earlier the better. We are going to see temperatures at 76 degrees at 9 00, and then at noon were at 89 degrees. We know its going to be a hot day. Its also the first day of school in hayward so happy first day if youre up early, parents getting ready for that day or maybe you just couldnt sleep last night. It will be in the upper 50s as you are headed to school. 67 degrees at 9 00, and then 80 degrees as we approach that last school bell. Lets go through all of our microclimates and check out our high temperatures for today. In napa at noon, lunch time were 83 degrees, while its 90 in livermore. Almaden valley at 86 degrees and palo alto upper 80s. While we we see upper 90s, a few spots reaching over 100 degrees today. Not a lot of widespread very hot temperatures, but youll see that even as we go into tonight it stays fairly mild because we will see a surge in humidity as some tropical moisture moves in from weakening of the remnants of a tropical system that was out there. So its going to give us some very beautiful sunrises and sunsets, but will also make it feel uncomfortable. The humidity will be peaking tomorrow, as well as wednesday and then start to come down thursday along with our temperatures. Here is a look at our trend.
