that's because smoke from that fire is drifting into napa and sonoma counties. more than 100 acres have burned off county road 41 and highway 16 in yolo county near the napa county border. that's in sand fire. it's footage of crews you can see right there making their way to fight the flames. high fire danger forced pg&e to cut power to customers in the north bay. laura continues our story. >> pg&e says it could take up to two days to fully restore power to this area because crews first had to inspect all of those powerlines to make sure they are safe. as you could imagine people in this area are hot and not very happy. >> my trailer gets so hot sitting on this black top, i die in there. >> reporter: charles edmonton and kelly live in the lake berryessa area. how are you staying cool? >> i'm not really right now. i had my shirt off earlier. >> reporter: same story in berryessa pines where dozens of homes are hooked up to power generators. steve silva says that's created a problem of its own. >> it's another fire hazard. using a generator outdoors in the dry grass areas is a potential problem for fires. >> reporter: they are among the 1,600 customers pulled off the power grid this hot, windy weekend. it's a preemptive move by pg&e to prevent wildfires after the company's equipment was blamed for starting the camp fire in paradise, the most destructive fire in state history. >> i think they are going to he muchany people to say this is crazy, this isn't the way to do things. >> reporter: pg&e is using the down time for maintenance. napa county has set up two charging stations for people and their devices. still kelly isn't having it. she says no power is no solution. >> we are the ones who suffer. i bet they've got power. i don't think it's right. >> reporter: again pg&e has started to restore power to the area. they say it could take a couple days before all powerlines are inspected and power is fully restored. i am told it depends upon the weather and any repairs that need to be made. reporting live from napa county, laura sam bol, nbc bay area news. that fire danger a reality in redwood city. crews responded to a grass fire near a homeless encampment. this is teen 101 southbound at whipple near veterans boulevard. 10:30 this morning it broke out. no one was hurt. conditions like this,ires poppi. pope valley in napa county, this cyberattack. live in san bruno with new details. >> reporter: i talked to the director of the municipal cable service who says they first noticed this last night but that th it continued getting worse overnight and into the morning. i talked with a customer very briefly had this afternoon who says she woke up to internet service that was at a snail's pace. >> it started this morning sometime when i turned my computer on and things were downloading really slowly. there were glitches. my android phone was having problems. i even had some problems with my actual phone. >> reporter: the director of the san bruno municipal cable described to me a malicious ip attack that was intense enough for them to actually take some service offline for some time this morning. they cut internet service locally in an effort to make sure their customers' information was not somehow leaked while this ip attack was in progress. this afternoon they began restoring service. they don't believe this was solely focused on san bruno. since they are the municipal provider for the city of san bruno they reached out to the customers to tell them what was happening. now i'm told right now the service has largely bee restorully restored up to regular speeds. for those customers who may still boffline, they are urged to call the cable provider tomorrow morning if their problems persist. reporting live in san bruno, sergio quintana, nbc bay area news. a follow-up to a story we reported earlier this week. a unique fire drill on the peninsula put neighbors and technology to the test with the increase in fires statewide and the amount of vegetation surrounding homes in the san carlos crestview neighborhoods. firefighters wanted to make sure the community is well prepared. this drill came with some surprises. firefighters gave participants few details hoping to make it as realistic as possible. >> i kind of got a text message in the morning to evacuate. that's how i ended here, to kind of test that process thought to see how it would work for a resident. >> afterhe dll neighbors bit smoother. the fire department is holing t hoping the drill improves planning and response. they are hoping to do more drill in the area. >> t ending the three week long teachers strike. after hundreds of hours at the bargaining table both sides reached a tentative agreement last night. the teachers will receive a 3% raise retroactive to the start of the calendar year. there will also be some additional back pay and future pay increases. last day of school is this thursday. if teachers approve the agreement they are set to return to the classroom on monday. his death happened a decade ago today. family, friends, and the oakland community came together to honor oscar grant. a mural was unveiled together at the fruitvale bart station. he was shot and killed right there by a bart police officer ten years ago. his death parked rioting in oakland and reforms in bart's police department. family members also presented new street signs naming the area where taxis pull in to the station after grant. the jaws of life come to the rescue in san jose. take a look at this. a driver finds himself stuck between those two homes. it happened on popular drive near story road and capital expressway at 5:00 this morning. neighbors tell us they heard a loud noise, something that sounded like an earthquake. when fire crews arrived they found the driver trapped inside his car between the homes. firefighters had to cut the roof off of the car to get him out. >> looks like what happened is it jumped the curb and actually went between the two homes. didn't actually hit them. hit some fencing. so the people that were actually asleep inside the homes are very fortunate. >> paramedics took the driver to a local trauma center. they say he was seriously injured. now, there were reports that there was also a passenger in the car but that person was gone when first responders arrived. still to come, patients aren't the only ones who need looking after. the multimillion-dollar project to help doctors. in the market for a vineyard? there is one going up for sale in the north bay. it's got a involving stanford will provide support services to doctors statewide. recent study shows that about half of doctors are exhausted and feel a loss of career purpose. california medical association and belong ed to tommy smothers. tommy and his brother dick had tha their own show for years. incredibly loved in the '60s and '70s. the 82-year-old says it's time to downsize. he is downsizing home wise right now a nice evening. 84. a high of 85. look the humidity levels. down to 23% around san jose. out towards dublin and the tri-valley 84 degrees. notice the humidity only 15%. not only will we see these dry conditions during the day, but thanks to the offshore north winds at night poor humidity recoveries, that keeps fire danger unfortunately high even after sundown. san francisco you can enjoy the warm weather for now. 77 degrees, that's pretty pleasant, but tomorrow highs in the 80s to even near 90. bayside in addition to that strong high pressure means air quality issues for san jose, unhealthy for sensitive groups. spare the air day to wrap up the weekend and like lewe wily see monday. speaking of air quality, if that fire in yellow county, some of reports of smoke drifting into napa and sonoma counties dealing with particulate matter, pollution and smoke. seeing that smoke come in, you have respiratory issues you want to stay inside. it's pushing that wind to the southwest to parts of the north bay. red flag warning through 5:00 tomorrow. notice how the winds are behaving. winds offshore, these are dry winds which keep things warm in the hills and gusty at times, especially on the ridge lines. whereas downtown napa and downtown santa rosa might not see a lot of wind, the winds stay strong throughout tonight. tomorrow morning 50s to start the day but look how quickly temperatures ries during the afternoon. mid-90s around the santa clara valley. close to 100 degrees in gilroy tomorrow. tri-valley mid-90s. trending hotter monday. oakland into hayward temperatures close to 90 degrees. you see how the peninsula is not benefiticeanro air-conditioning? you got 80s and low 90s. that does include san francisco, which is also under the heat advisory for your sunday. north bay temperatures in the mid-90s. now, we'll see another round of this in addition to the heat advisory we're seeing set up fo for the valleys. monday, notice these areas in pink. our maps don't usually turn these colors. for the tri-valley and inland east bay a good chance of temperatures above 100 degrees. one catch throw. get enough of these high clouds, maybe that limits temperatures just a little bit. we will keep an eye on that for your monday forecast. it looks like two days near records and high pressure begins to weaken. the ridge begins to break down a little bit. repositions to the west which should give us a little bit more of a sea breeze. the end of the weekend first half of the work week is looking hot with high fire danger, air quality issues, too. we will have to monitor that. san francisco gets into the cooling on tuesday. i think the valleys are going to have to wait until wednesday, thursday, friday before that sea breeze takes hold. a
