that incredible curling gold medal match that wrapped up a few hours ago. team usa started off the olympic games down-and-out. but they came back in a major way. bringing home the gold with that congratulations. thank you. >> skip shuster, let me start with you, sir, how does it feel being an olympic gold medalist? >> it's starting to sink in a little bit. yeah, back in 2006 we got the first medal for the u.s., the bronze medal. yeah, this is pretty darn incredibly special. >> pretty special. tyler, let me bring you in here. it's been called the miracurl on ice. you were on a hot winning streak winning five games in a row, how did you pull it off? what changed? >> you know, honestly, the best thing for us was to come out and play canada the next day when we played against the best team in the world, you have nothing to lose. so we just played loose, played confident and once you play a game like that against a team of that caliber, then that's how you start the hot streak. >> and a canadian team, we should note, that you had not beat in olympic competition. you had to beat them not once but twice. john, let me bring you back in here for a second. you got an incredible come back story. you were cut from the team four years ago. and then you start your own team and at one point you guys were known as the rejects. and now the rejects are all wearing gold medals. >> yeah. we didn't get rejected for long. this team came together back in the fall of 2014 and actually won a couple national championships and went to the world championships and represented the u.s. in those. and made the medal round each time with our height being the bronze. we knew we had a chance. upgraded that championship gold as a team to something a little bit bigger. >> i love it. >> joe, you've been part of both olympic medals for the u.s. curling team. what do you say to the folks that say you know what, curling isn't a sport? >> well, i mean, we put in a lot of hard work in the gym and on the ice. and the challenge them to come and try it and not be sore the next day. >> matt hamilton, i don't know if you are aware of this but you got some celebrity dop wiplegans out there. there is none other than super mario. who wore it better, you or mario? >> you know, he might have rocked the red hat better, i think i'm rocking this a little bit better than he could. i'm pretty facing president trump's former campaign manager paul manifort. is it another sign that special counsel is getting closer to white house? kelly o'donnell is covering it all for us. good morning. >> good morning. the white house is not commenting on these new charges against paul manifort and the guilty plea from rick gates. he says this stems from the business life and not the work at the campaign. he said both men were indicted on charge that's included money laundering but now the special counsel is bringing forward evidence of additional crimes. >> reporter: the special counsel squeeze. late friday new charges leveled against paul manifort, chairman in summer '16. he's accused of making secret payments to former european politicians to get them to take positions favorable to ukraine. while manifort worked for a russian backed ukrainian leader in 2012 and '13. those new charges following a big break friday. his former top aid, rick gates pleaded guilty to conspiracy and lying to investigators. gates is now cooperating with the special counsel. manifort responded that he would have hoped gates would have the strength to continue the battle to prove our innocence. president trump was not asked about the russia investigation during his news conference with australia's prime minister. but did respond to the white house security clearance controversy saying he would not overrule the chief of staff on whether son-in-law jared kushner should keep access to secrets with only interim clearance. >> that will be up to general kelly. general kelly respects him a lot and general kelly will make that call. >> reporter: in a freewheeling speech before conservatives earlier on friday -- >> second amendment! >> reporter: the president talked gun policy, pushing for teachers with gun skills to carry weapons at school even though an armed deputy at the florida high school did not con front the gunman. >> he decided not to go in. that was not his finest moment that i can tell you. >> reporter: president trump says he will take action. >> we want to be very powerful, very strong on background checks and especially as it pertains to the mentally ill. >> late friday there was a scare here that had the white house on lockdown for a time. there now has been a woman, a 35-year-old woman from tennessee taken into custody after the van she was driving went into a barricade. secret service officers at the time said they spotted a pistol. they forcibly removed her from the van, took her into custody and according to police reports, there have been past incidents where she had tried to gain access here at the white house. craig? chanel? >> kelly o'donnell, thank you. to the emotional scene in parkland, florida, where teachers returned to the school on friday for the first time since that horrific shooting last week. this as we get new information about another possible warning sign missed about the shooter. maia rodriguez is in parkland this morning. good morning to you. >> good morning, craig. well, right now we know that parents and teachers and students tomorrow will be able to go back to stoneman douglas high school for the first time since the shooting. teachers were able to go in yesterday for the first time to get their belongings and basically assess what is going on in the school and in their classroom. all of this as the investigation into what happened uncovers new details. >> reporter: this morning, new details about a tip called into the fbi last month. a person the agency describes as close to 19-year-old shooting suspect nikolas cruz warned authorities that he was going to explode and feared he would be getting into a school and just shooting the place up. the fbi did not follow up on that tip. all this while on friday teachers at stoneman douglas returned to a campus shaken by tragedy. >> this school is my home. and i'm very angry. >> reporter: the shooting that killed 17 prompted florida governor rick scott to announce new measures raising the age limit for buying a fire arm to 21. >> i know there are some who are advocating a mass take away of second amendment rights for all americans. that is not the answer. >> reporter: the governor also calling for law enforcement officer assigned to every public school. but the broward sheriff's office says surveillance footage reveals scott peterson, the armed resource officer at stoneman douglas did not confront the shooter nor enter the building. >> you know, he had one job to serve and to protect and he did not do that. >> peterson resigned. he has not responded to requests for comment from nbc news. but other officers did respond to the shooting including sergeant jeff hinrich who was off duty. his wife works at the school, his son a student there. >> by the grace of god, when they walked down the hallway they found each other. >> reporter: the school now preparing to take on a lesson in learning and healing. >> we'll take it one day at a time, one class at a time, one minute at a time. >> now as for those injured in the shooting, more than a week later three remain in the hospital. all are in fair condition. craiging? >> all right. maya rodriguez, thank you. dylan standing by. a lot of folks dealing with a lot of rain this morning. >> a lot of rain, and rain for days. that's what's causing the major issue. the story is the heavy rain. 43 million fem apeople are unde flood watch this morning, texas to pennsylvania. cars, homes, even football fields are completely submerged. the flooding which has been going on for days is causing rivers to rise like the one here in michigan and the ohio river has been flooding as well. so take a look at just how much rain is still falling right now. heavy through southern illinois, through parts of central indiana, back through dallas as well. but if we go to last monday, the rain has been training over the same areas from texas through especially arkansas and all the way up into pennsylvania since monday. so that's why all of this water is trickling into the rivers and the lakes and the streams and that's causing the concern for more flood williing. we even have flash flood warnings in northwestern arkansas. as we go through the day, the front will start to move to the east. another very wet day through texas, through arkansas, through southern illinois. but then the front will move eastward as we go into sunday. with this front we could also see some severe storms. there is the possibility of damaging winds and also some isolated tornadoes especia . . . and we definitely have some clear skies, and that's what's making a lot of these temperatures feel and, you know, really look extremely cold, because look at this map right now. 28 degrees in santa rosa. napa, 26. oakland, 37. morgan hill, 29 degrees. now, as of right now, we are definitely on the chilly side, and we are expecting mostly clear skies. temperatures are running as much as 8 degrees when the final results were in and you won silver medal. we saw red gerard who won gold in the men's slopestyle. he came over to congratulate you. what was going through your mind? >> i mean so many emotions going through my mind. i was blown away i got second. i was really happy for my best friends with me. i wish red was up there and kenworthy. >> i heard your dad got emotional as well when you won. what did he say to you? what did you say to him? >> i don't think many words were exchanged. more of him crying and me hugging my parents. that was the best to share this moment with them. they are my biggest supporters. they got me here today. >> what now? get low. >> there is no chair lift here. we strapped on snowshoes to help us hike up the mountain. this is an helaborate knotting system. we have a wooden stick. and final tips from mr. park. >> what are the chances we will fall on skis?
