KITTERY, Maine — Less than three weeks away from its scheduled installation, Horace Mitchell Primary School’s Project Playground initiative is seeking a final infusion of donations to cover remaining project costs. Replacing the school’s current playground, which is around two decades old, according to school Principal Allison Gamache, costs roughly $225,000. The playground will feature monkey bars, a zipline, an updated swing set and numerous climbing structures and more. Gamache said that, through prior consultation with an occupational therapist, handicap accessible surfacing is a primary focus of the installation for students with physical disabilities, as well as those from the community using the playground who have accessibility challenges.
