The good news however is that the bay area and california as a whole is faring better than the rest of the country. We spoke to dr. Dean winslow. He said were seeing a third wave right now. The first one being in march, april, may. The second in july and august following memorial day and the fourth of july. Now were in this third wave as the weather gets cooler, people retreat inside and more business begin to welcome customers indoors in california and across the country. At a time when 48 out of 50 states are hitting new records for positive cases, dr. Winslow says we must keep our guard up. It was cool to see some didn different high profile venues turning into Voting Centers including levi stadium down in santa clara and then the former Practice Court for the warriors in oakland, and then the chase center in San Francisco. Warriors coach steve kerr was on hand to encourage and applaud people for voting. Voters say it was good to be out and cast their ballot. My son got me up this morning and said its time to vote. I said my goodness, lets go. Its our civic duty. Im excited to participate for the first time. Feels like this year is the most important time i voted. I voted every time since i was eligible. Here is the big number. More than 10. 5 Million People have already sent in their ballots in california. Registrars across the bay area say theyre seeing record numbers in their counties. Alameda says they have not seen election numbers like this before. San francisco saying this is the highest in the citys history at this point in the election. 317,000 people have voted in San Francisco, turnout so far of about 59 . What im concerned about is people getting together in large groups for the holidays, both thanksgiving and christmas. Really everyone should be tested for covid19 within, say, 72 hours or so of showing up. The doctor points out that we have to keep in mind county Health Directors and political leaders in the bay area have been far more cautious than other parts of the country. Take San Francisco, for example, putting the pause on additional reopening plans after covid hospitalizations inched from 21 people to 37 people in recent days. He put out a reminder that now is the time to get smart, have a plan if you do plan on traveling for the holidays, especially thanksgiving, wear a mask and get tested.
