well, you can see that green on live doppler 7 and much more rain is headed our way. but tonight it's already falling in the north bay. and the words mudslides, flooding, and sinkholes are the last things a community that's already been through so much wants to hear tonight. good evening. i'm dion lim. >> i'm eric thomas. the north bay fires destroyed thousands of homes. turns out it also melted critical plastic drainage pipes. >> now those pipes are causing sinkholes and prompting road closures and a warning from officials tonight, have a plan to leave your home. >> we have live team coverage. let's begin with abc 7 news reporter elissa harrington live in santa rosa. alissa? >> reporter: the rain is coming down in santa rosa which is causing a great deal of concern tonight. you can see barriers are up at crosscreek road. that's because this area is closed to the public. pipe underground burned away during the fire, which is causing a great risk. just a month after fires devastated parts of santa rosa the rain now poses a new threat. mudslides, flooding, debris flows, and sinkholes. one sinkhole already opened up on newberry court. the reason? plastic drainpipes burned and melted underground in the october firestorm. >> the pipes caught fire and in some cases were destroyed. >> this means in some areas there's nothing there to support any runoff from the rain. the city has identified 23 trouble spots. one of those, cross-creek road at fountain grove. they closed the street to the public while they make repairs. >> in this particular case there's no homes in the area. unfortunately, they've been burned. however, this is a major thoroughfare, so this is a street that gets a lot of traffic. so we're advertising it to the public so they know to plan their routes accordingly. >> reporter: city workers alerted neighbors and sealed off street-level storm drains. they're utilizing tiny cameras and placing them underground to get pictures of the damaged pipes. >> we have crews we mobilized through emergency contracts to start doing repairs as we evaluate, the city evaluates the needs. >> one of those crews worked around sinkhole they dug up 250 feet of pipe on the hillside, then secured the road. city officials are taking the issue seriously and saying now is not the time to let your guard down. >> we're asking residents to especially in the fountain grove area to be extra vigilant and to have a plan to leave in the event it is necessary. >> reporter: in santa rosa elissa harrington, abc 7 news. >> there are no evacuation areas tonight, but that could change once the rain really sets in. >> meteorologist drew tuma is tracking the rain up in santa rosa right now with a look. drew? >> and we do expect the north bay to have the highest rainfall totals as the storm moves through in the next 24 hours. live doppler 7 tracking it all. we are seeing some light showers already in the north bay. we'll press in a little tighter on live doppler 7 and you can see from ukiah to cloverdale, heelsburg, even as far south as santa rosa some light rain already reported. but the wide view of what we're tracking, live doppler 7 along with satellite, a cold front that's going to swing through here the next 24 hours. on the storm impact scale the storm does rank a 1. it's a light system. but the north bay will see the highest totals between a quarter and 3/46 an inch of rain. outside of the north bay probably less than a quarter of an inch of rain. we're going to go hour by hour in future weather, time this system out across the entire region. this is just one of three storms we're tracking the next seven days. we'll have the the full forecast in a few minutes, guys. >> all right, drew, thanks a lot. our abc 7 news app will up to have the government remove ash and debris from their burned-out homes in sonoma county. abc 7 was at the veterans memorial building in santa rosa. that's where people met face to face with officials from county agencies and fema. >> we want more people to participate. we wanted to remind them of the deadline which is tomorrow. >> there's a lot of questions from property owners. that's completely understand that. that's why we've been out in the community every single day. >> we try to find out what we need to do for our property, if we need to preserve it somehow until we get debris removal. >> homeowners can also hire their own private contractor and make arrangements to pay them either with their own money or with insurance. plans to open a gun store in san carlos this month have been put on hold. overwhelming response from the community has now put the issue before the city council, which will consider a moratorium on gun stores tomorrow night. abc 7 news reporter lilian kim has the story now from san carlos. >> reporter: up until a couple weeks ago plans were full steam ahead for a turner's outdoorsman store to open on this strip mall on industrial road. the retail chain sells guns, ammo, hunting and fishing equipment. >> my 10-year-old son's upset. all the kids are upset about this. >> reporter: but when jackie yawn and other san carlos residents got wind of the project, they began e-mailing the city council protesting the new store. there have been 500 e-mails so far. >> this is the most i've ever seen. 500 is beyond i think 150 to 200 at the most one time we saw. >> reporter: mayor bob gracilli says the council will consider a moratorium on gun stores monday night. the city already has a gun store on camino real. for turner's the sudden holdup on their plans is something they didn't expect. >> they apparently have got a good reputation down there with law enforcement and with everything else. so i'd certainly be upset if i were them probably coming in. but on the other hand, every community has standards. >> reporter: the san carlos city council is anticipating record crowds monday night. so they set up two overflow rooms, one upstairs here at city hall and another at the adult community center. we were unable to reach representatives of turner's outdoorsman, but they will address the council monday night, and so will dozens of residents who are fed up by the country's recent mass shootings. >> i understand that people feel that this is a right of theirs, and i just want to ask them where's our right to say what makes us safer. >> reporter: the meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in san carlos, lilian kim, abc 7 news. abc 7 news was at levi stadium when police struggled to restrain a man. as you can see, the man and an officer both tumbled on to the field during this afternoon's scuffle. the man happened to be wearing a new york giants jersey. our media partner the "mercury news" reports police moved in after the man ignored several requests to sit down and stop blocking the view of fans behind him. police also arrested a woman when trouble broke out in the fourth quarter. triumph provided a brief distraction from tragedy today for a 49ers receiver just hours after the death of his newborn son. >> nice pickup. >> wide open for the speedster! goodwin. and goodwin is gone! a 49er touchdown! >> marquise goodwin knelt in the end zone after hauling an 83-yard touchdown pass. goodwin posted on instagram following the game that his son died after being born prematurely early this morning. doctors believe goodwin and his wife lost their son due to pregnancy complications. developing news now in richmond tonight. police and firefighters worked to recover a body aboard a tanker ship. the coast guard received a report that a person had died on board just before 7:30 tonight. that ship is now docked along canal boulevard after arriving in richmond yesterday. so far officials haven't said how the person died. members of the bay area's jiu-jitsu community came together today to help one of their own. a san francisco police officer recovering from a serious brain injury. abc 7 news was in south san francisco, where jiu-jitsu instructors taught the favorite moves of officer eli elia lewin-tankle. police say during a chase last month a suspect slammed into his bicycle. one of lewin-tankel's martial arts partners orlgd today's seminar. >> i'm literally floored at the support. seeing a room full of people. i see a lot of people who are police officers who also train. i see a lot of people who are my students, other people's students. and so it's amazing to see people coming together. >> lewin-tankel's friends also tell us he'll move from a hospital to a rehab facility tomorrow. president trump is taking part in a summit in the philippines right now, and he just promised to make a, quote, major statement after he gets back to the u.s. on wednesday. philippine president rodrigo duterte greeted mr. trump during the kickoff of a meeting of southeast asian nations. north korea's nuclear ambitions topped the agenda when president trump met with the prime others ran. we're getting a look at how the army veteran reacted when he thought that bag might have been some kind of explosive device. the agency says he's, quote, not a hero. it turns out the smoke came from a lithium ion battery burning inside the backpack. travelers waited for hours to be rescreened after terminals were evacuated last night. polls show alabama republican senate candidate roy moore trailing his democratic opponent for the first time. this just days after accusations of sexual conduct with a 14-year-old girl when moore was in his early 30s. a poll published today by jmc analytics and polling shows democrat doug jones with 46% to moore's 42% and 9% undecided. moore says the attacks against him are growing more vicious by the minute and he says he's counting on his supporters to stand by him by chipping in a donation. and new developments in the allegations against kevin spacey. more than a dozen accusers coming forward with claims of sexual abuse and harassment. abc news confirming prosecutors' plans to meet with the son of a former boston news anchor, claiming spacey sexually assaulted him last year when he was just 18. abc news reporter eva pilgrim reports. >> reporter: tonight kevin spacey now the subject of a criminal investigation. >> i've made you the president. >> reporter: the "house of cards" star accused of sexually assaulting a then 18-year-old at a bar last year. >> kevin spacey went to the restroom, and a woman came forward and told my client run. >> reporter: prosecutors now plan to meet with the team after his mother, a former boston news anchor, went to authorities. >> the victim, my son, was a starstruck straight 18-year-old young man. spacey stuck his hand inside my son's pants. >> reporter: so far 15 men have come forward accusing spacey of sexual misconduct. >> hey hey, ho, ho -- >> reporter: in los angeles people marched in support of victims of sexual assault. this as hollywood begins its march to the oscars. on the governor's red carpet stars faced questions about the toxic culture. >> i really hope that this is a huge paradigm shift and it can be a course toward systemic change. >> reporter: but inside at the podium so often used as a voice for change no mention of the sexual harassment and assault allegations in tinseltown. the crowd applauding as dustin hoffman took the stage, just two weeks ago accused of groping a 17-year-old production assistant in 1985. eva pilgrim, abc news, new york. it was a disappointing end to the soccer season for some kids in walnut creek this weekend. matches had to be canceled in age groups under 9 to under 14 because several fields had been sprayed with pesticide. take a look at this video of walnut creek interimmediate yacht from drone view 7. it was one of six fields where the pesticide spectracid spectracide triazide was applied on friday. walnut creek soccer club sent out a notice to its members saying this decision was not made lightly but was in the best interests of the health of our players, spectators and referees. tesla ceo and founders promising a new vehicle that will "blow your mind." elon musk tweeted today the company will unveil a new tesla semi truck adding to the drama. he continued by saying the vehicle will take you to an alternate dimension and that he just needed his portal gun to make it happen. not much is known about the truck's design and the original unveiling that was supposed to be several weeks ago. the reveal will now happen during a webcast on thursday at 8:00 p.m. san francisco said thank you to veterans today. abc 7 news was on jefferson street and fisherman's wharf. that's where high school drill teams and cheerleaders marched in the city's veterans day parade. several other community and military groups took part in this year's festivities. and wells fargo brightened this veterans day weekend for two purple heart recipients. one of them now has a new car. the other got a home of his own. and neither man will have to make any payments. since 2012 wells fargo has donated homes to more than 350 vets. okay. all eyes on the weather tonight. >> yeah. and we're having some light showers in the north bay now. and tomorrow this system is slowly going to move its way to the south. live doppler 7 tonight showing we've got some green on the screen indicating some light rain. we'll push in a little tighter, specifically in the north bay. live doppler 7 showing you from santa rosa to heelsburg over to aetna springs up into cloverdale, some isolated light showers right now. but the system is still well off the coast and will bring more light rain the next 24 hours. in fact, the picture outside, a live look from the exploratorium camera on pier 15 right now, the clouds are gathering at this hour, and the showers are not too far behind. but as we gather those clouds right now, what it's doing, it's slowing the cooling process tonight. so a lot of spots are holding the 50s. look at san francisco. we're just one degree shy of 60 degrees right now at this late-night hour. 55 the current number in san jose. 50 in oakland. right now santa rosa 54 degrees with an isolated light shower. overnight tonight location is going to be key determining what your sky looks like. in the south bay and along the peninsula there's a mix of stars and clouds. we're dry in the upper 40s to lower 50s. however, in the north bay we have overcast skies and light showers are already developing at this hour. live doppler 7 along the satellite. here is the setup we're tracking. you can see a lot of showers gathering around eureka right now, northern california. it's all associated with a cold front. you can see that line of cloud cover very nicely offshore, and that's going to swing through here the next 24 hours in a north to south fashion and bring those showers. so the farther south you are the later you're going to see those showers. san jose, for example, your 12-hour planner on your monday, you're waking up to dry skies in the south bay and a mix of sun and clouds. you're dry midday and you're approaching almost 70 degrees tomorrow afternoon. it's not until the sun goes down and likely after 5:00 in san jose that we start to see the showers enter your picture. storm impact scale we use exclusively at abc 7 to rank our storms from 1 to 2k3w5i6z you a better of what to expect. the one coming monday it's a light system. the north bay will see the highest totals, about a quarter to 3/46 an inch there. outside of the north bay much less than that. most spots seeing less than 1/4 of an inch of rain. hour by hour we go. let's plan this system out. corner of your screen, 6:00 in the morning tomorrow. likely the only issues we'll have with the morning rush will be in the north bay where we have those isolated light showers, the pops of green on your screen. outside of the north bay we're likely dry. and that's the theme for the first half of our monday. future weather even saying by the early afternoon the showers still confined to the north bay. it's likely late in the afternoon into the early evening hours. the storm begins to move south. and by 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 starting to see showers in san francisco and oakland, even antioch, along the peninsula, and then finally showers late in the day on monday approach the south bay. accuweather seven-day forecast, tomorrow we have those light showers moving from a north to south fashion. tuesday we're dry from clouds to sunshine. by wednesday our next storm moves in in the evening. overnight for morning showers into thursday. we dry out in time on friday. and then another round of light showers looks to move in saturday evening with a lingering shower on sunday. good now what if there was only one mattress? one is not a choice. choose your mattress with tulo. everything you want in a bed, in a box. good evening. thanks for joining us. i'm eric thomas. >> and i'm dion lim. in tonight's headlines, a warning from officials in the north bay tonight. have a plan to leave your home. it turns out the north bay fires melted critical plastic drainage pipes which are now causing sinkholes and prompting road closures. plans to open a gun store in san carlos this month have been put on hold. overwhelming response from the community has now put the issue before the city council, which will consider a moratorium on gun stores tomorrow night. president trump is taking part in a summit in the philippines right now, and he has just promised to make a, quote, major statement after he returns to the u.s. on wednesday. philippine president rodrigo duterte greeted mr. trump during the kickoff at a meeting in the south asian nations. south korea's nuclear ambitions topped the agenda when president trump met with the prime ministers of japan and australia. it was a day of mourning in sutherland springs, texas. >> friends and family joined a small kong rgation of the first baptist church for their first sunday worship since last week's massacre. abc's richard cantu has the latest. >> reporter: a standing ovation sunday for pastor frank pomeroy, who lost more than two dozen members of his congregation, including his own 14-year-old daughter annabelle. >> this past weekend our country was attacked, our state was attacked, our church was attacked. glory to god, our people were attacked. >> reporter: pomeroy, traveling out of state during the attack, leading an emotional sermon that called on mourners to worship in the face of evil. >> we have the freedom to choose and rather than choose darkness as one young man did that day i say we choose life. >> reporter: the first church service since the tragedy inside a white tent erected in a baseball field packed with hundreds of people all sharing their grief including the mother-in-law of 26-year-old gunman devon kelley. >> those 26 who are no longer with us are dancing in his presence today. >> reporter: after the service people lined up to see the newly opened memorial inside the sutherland springs first baptist church where the tragedy happened. 26 chairs sit empty to honor the men, women, and children including an unborn baby who died here in a hail of gunfire just one week ago. one red rose on each chair. >> exactly in the spot where each member was -- and it's just -- it's heartbreaking. and breathtaking at the same time. >> where they find the strength to carry on after such a terrible tragedy is truly remarkable. >> reporter: funerals for the victims will continue to be held this week. richard cantu, abc news, new york. you're looking at the moment when a celebration turned to terror. a floor collapsed, dropping several people into the apartment beneath them in texas. luckily, all the injuries appear to be minor. witnesses say the floor gave way while people were jumping on it. it happened during a homecoming party for the university of north texas in denton, about 35 miles north of dallas. in san diego 23 people were injured at an obstacle gym after an offer to get pizza turned into disaster there. some 30 to 40 kids rushed upstairs to get the pizza when a wooden platform collapsed, sending them tumbling. authorities say most of the injuries were bumps and bruises but the kids were understandably terrified. >> it was really scary, and everybody was crying and bleeding. >> the gym's owner is offering an apology but no explanation for what happened. two of the injured are still in the hospital tonight, but they are expected to recover. city building inspectors are investigating that incident. to the north bay now. the footprint of the north bay fires is strikingly similar to an outbreak of wild nooirs more than a half century ago. >> cal fire used this history in fighting last month's wildfires and the abc 7 news i-team's dan noyes met one man whose property escaped both infernos not only last month but also in 1964. >> reporter: michael fumara is thankful he's a light sleeper. he spotted the flames racing toward his home in santa rosa's fountain grove neighborhood early this morning. >> it's really scary, isn't it? should we evacuate? no one tells us. >> reporter: he evacuated his spouse grordon who suffers from alzheimer's and returned three days later to see this. >> all along every single home is gone. >> reporter: block after block of complete destruction. he drove up sage hill place. his neighbors' homes gone. but his still standing. >> there are times i can't even believe it. i pinch myself. i walk out at night and just walk around in sort of a daze because i'm thinking i'm alone here. >> such a close call. flames burned trees just a few feet from his house. >> why did it just do this? tell me i'm not a scientist. >> reporter: before last month's fires fumara knew the fire narrowly escaped the 1964 hanley fire while again the property next door burned. >> all of a sudden the fire takes this v shape. it's almost like there's a protective zone. >> reporter: fumara's experience points to a bigger issue. take a look at this map produced by the city of santa rosa. that's last month's tubbs fire in black and the 1964 hanley fire in red. a very similar burn pattern. in fact cal fire tells me the tubbs, at lan and nuns fire last month mirror fires in the same locations in 1964 with the same dry conditions, simila high winds and the same topography. >> fire history's a really important element to the california fire service when they're fighting a fire and also planning to a fire. >> reporter: fire crews used that knowledge to cut fire breaks that finally stopped the flames in several locations. but there's a major difference in the wildfires last month compared to 50 years ago. the number of homes built during that time. the 1964 fires claimed 108 structures. last month more than 5,000. and that's raising a question. should we rebuild in a known fire zone?
