a shotgun, 12-gauge >> only on abc 7 news, a shotgun, a rifle, hundreds of rounds of ammunitions, all stolen from a deputy's car here in san francisco. the question tonight, why weren't they locked in a lockbox as is required by law. good evening. i'm eric thomas. >> i'm deion. the weapons and ammo were taken from a sheriff's deputy's car parked in the tenderloin last night. >> lonnie rivera has more on the story. lonnie? >> reporter: eric and deion, sources tell abc 7 news that san mateo deputy has worked with the fbi's joint terrorism task force for more than 20 years. his car was parked along jones near market last night. san francisco police are looking into this theft and urging the public to be on the lookout. >> the first will be a shotgun, a weatherby pump action. and the second firearm is a colt ar-4, black in color. there were also 40 mags containing 20 rounds each of .223 that were stolen. >> reporter: friday night san francisco police took a report of a gun and ammunition theft from a san mateo sheriff's deputies. san francisco police tell abc 7 news it happened on 41 jones street in the tenderloin. an all-points bulletin asked the officers to be on the lookout. >> reporter: this gun and ammunition theft is one of six in the bay area since november of 2015. the weapon used to kill 32-year-old kate steinleon pier 14 in july of 2015 was stolen from a sheriff's car. he felt comfortable leaving the gun in his suv with tinted windows. last year, california lawmakers passed a law requiring law enforcement officers to lock firearms in safe boxes in their vehicles. senator jerry hill sponsored of the legislation and spoke with us about it in october of 2016. >> you have to secure your handgun if you have one and you're transporting it, in a locked container. >> reporter: issues have persisted since that law was signed. in september, an off-duty san francisco sheriff's deputy reported his car was broken into and guns stolen on san bruno avenue. that officer was later fired. and i reached out to the san mateo sheriff's office tonight. none of our calls were returned. here in san francisco, police are asking the public with any information to call their tip line, and that number is 415-574-4444. the question tonight, of course, is, what was the deputy sheriff doing with those weapons and ammunition in his personal car, and not locked in a lockbox as the law requires. live in san francisco, lonnie rivera, abc 7 news. >> the story we'll stay on top of. breaking news coming out of mountain view tonight where a man was stabbed during a fight. all of this happened at about 6:30 outside the center for performing arts. police say jan neil stabbed another man, even after police used their taser on him. neil also went to the hospital for treatment and is in jail accused of attempted murder. it came just before the night's performance of the prince of egypt. harvey weinstein could possibly face rape charges in new york city. we spoke exclusively to a bay area woman and tells us all tonight. lisa, what did she tell you? >> she had a lot to say. amy hart is an award-winning documentary filmmaker. in the late '90s she worked at miramax. and she knew about the rumors about kevin spacey, running rampant even back then. >> he is every bit the monster people say he is. bellowing profanities at the top of his lungs. to senior vice president. to actresses, to filmmakers. >> reporter: amy hart worked her way up at miramax back in the '90s. she caught harvey weinstein's eye while she worked in the mail room. >> harvey actually requested that i become one of his assistants. >> reporter: she turned down the job because of the work load and 9 environment. >> there was a terror there. there was a control that was frightening. >> reporter: still, she insists two decades ago, talk was always about weinstein's temper, narcissism and bullying and not about accusations of sexual assault or rape. >> we didn't know. because we would have stood up for these young actresses. we would have stood up for them. >> reporter: meantime, in new york city, investigators are building their case against weinstein, after boardwalk empire actress poz de la huerta accused weinsteinf sexually assaulting her twice. >> we need an arrest warrant. that requires a court order. we want to get our evidence first before we go out and do something like that. >> reporter: weinstein's representative says, quote, any allegations of nonconsensual sex are unequivocally denied by mr. weinstein, and in london a possible investigation into kevin spacey. according to hart was known in the industry. >> there were some rumors around that film, and rumors about his misconduct. >> like what? >> that he was hitting on the boys. >> reporter: as for weinstein, hart is confident that he will still come out on top of it. in fact, she expects he'll write a tell-all book all about this, and then make it into a movie. live in the newsroom, lisa amen ga leashan. three women are accused of stealing more than $1,000 worth of alcohol from a market. take a good look on your screen height here. the trio walked into the market store last night and walked out with 22 bottles of high end alcohol. anyone with information is asked to contact authorities. san francisco police will get tasers following a contentious vote, a move applauded by the police union which now has a new concern about use of the weapon. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard has the story. protests at san francisco police commission meeting boiled over. deciding if police officers should be allowed to carry tasers. what police called a less lethal alternative. >> we have been pushing for tasers for at least seven, eight years. >> reporter: san francisco police officers association president martin hall oh ran commenced the commission for approval of using the tasers. this video supplied by taser maker. >> when you restrict it to the point where an officer is unable to use the taser, then what's the point of having that policy. we just oppose the use of tasers. >> reporter: activist alex post from the democratic socialists of america say the sfpd should use more de-escalating tactics like time and distance from standoffs. >> to approach the community with a weapon rather than with the, like newer 21st century style de-escalation procedure is the wrong way to go. >> reporter: the police chief william scott wants all officers to carry conductive energy devices. before that happens, scott said we acknowledge the public's ongoing concerns before the devices can be deployed. it's critical we submit a solid policy based on national best practices. if a taser policy isn't drafted soon, hall oh ran will take it to the voters. >> the poa is set to take it to the voters. a 32-year-old hayward man is booked for critically wounding a san francisco police officer early wednesday morning in the castro district. police identified him as says ar valdez. he remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after also being wounded in the exchange of gunfire. the shootout happened near 18th and diamond just after midnight wednesday when officers approached a suspicious vehicle. the injured officer is in critical but stable condition. members from 11 shia muslim mosques located throughout the ay area organized a blood drive today. terrorism. marchers called for unity and peace and a greater understanding of the muslim faith. >> here we are today, standing up with the terrorized and oppressed people of the world to tell them that we are with them, we are one of them. >> marchers today also commemorated the important figure in the islamic faith who stood against terror and promoted peace. much more ahead tonight, including a strong message on the streets here in the bay area and across the country today. >> thousands want to see change in the white house. how president trump and vice president pence reacted to their calls for impeachment. an outpouring of help for north bay wildfire victims. how a local program has more than doubled the number of families getting assistance. take a look. isn't that inviting. snow in the sierra. what the first major snowstorm in the season dropped in the high country. wrapping up a damp and rather cool start to the weekend tonight, (dog panting) another 2am stroll, huh? (dog grunting, panting) is... is he okay? real people? living and breathing. hopefully not breathing like that. for all the things that keep you up at night, anthem blue cross has a solution. good evening, everybody. >> tonight's headlines, san francisco police are looking for a shotgun, a rifle and hundreds of rounds of ammunition stolen from san mateo county sheriff deputy's personal car. it was parked in the tenderloin last night. the thieves also took an fbi jacket and bulletproof vest. this is the sixth theft of police gear in the bay area in the past two years. breaking news coming out of mountain view tonight. a man is accused of attempted murder after a stabbing fight outside the center for performing arts tonight. jan neil continued to attack the victim even after police used a taser on him. neil was eventually arrested and that victim is in serious condition. president trump is in japan on his first visit to asia this weekend. he's meeting with prime minister shinzo abe. the leader signed to make the alliance even greater. they are expected to talk about north korea and play a round of golf. in an industry known for liberal tendencies, conservative tech workers say they're victims of a witch hunt. >> laurie seagal speaks with the undercover conservatives in silicon valley who say they need to remain hidden out of fear of losing their jobs. >> there's a real fear. >> reporter: he's not hiding his identity because he's committed a crime or because he's worried about his safety. >> i would describe myself as a blend of conservative and libertarian. >> reporter: he's an entrepreneur who's worked with several big names in tech. and he's conservative in silicon valley. it's enough to make him want to go incognito. >> i want more border security. people are going to complain to hr. >> reporter: he's not the only one in hiding. we spoke to several others who said the stakes were simply too high to share their identity. here's another conservative from a major tech company. he spoke with us on the condition of anonymity. >> i walked into work with make america great again hat. people would take it as a personal affront. i would expect to be out of the company within weeks, not a month. >> reporter: these are undercover conservatives of silicon valley. the perfect equation for a culture war playing out in what has long been a mecca for liberal politics. >> it's a big deal. these tech companies, have more and more control over the things we see. easy content distribution coupled with fewer gatekeepers. people in these companies are going to have far more power. which is why i think it's a sad state, where conservatives feel they might lose their jobs if they speak out about the editorial decisions that could be made. >> harmony dillon thinks conservatives might have legal recourse. she's been getting calls from people who say they've been discriminated against but they're too afraid to speak publicly. >> if you're a young man in your 20s, you're making a quarter million dollars with your salary and bonus and your stock, do you want to be the martyr conservative rights? >> reporter: the mul multimillionaire tech entrepreneur, unlikely poster boy for discrimination. >> what it looks like being disciplined for innocent remarks, it's being not considered for job opportunities in internal promotions. >> it's ironic, because i feel like you could literally take that exact thing you just said and apply it to some of the women's cases at the tech companies. >> i've suffered sexual harassment as a woman as well. that does not take away from the fact that political and viewpoint discrimination exist in silicon valley. >> tomorrow, new york city's marathon is expected to have the tightest security ever. the increased police presence comes in the wake of last week's terror attack that killed eight people. about 50,000 runners will hit the streets with a crowd of 2.5 new york's governor said to expect an increase of law enforcement along the race route, and all the city's transportation systems, trains, tunnels, bridges and airports. >> there will be two or three times as many people deployed, thousands of officers on duty this weekend. we have no information that points to any issues. this is just a precautionary measure given the recent events. >> the governor advises runners and spectators to be vigilant an diligent. alabama university fraternity is under investigation for racially insensitive halloween display. at troy university it's being criticized for a skit shared thousands of times on social media. it shows someone wearing a sombrero, climbing a brick wall and another person dressed as president trump who's yelling at that other person. now, the display had students and faculty outraged. they held a town hall meeting last night. >> i was outraged. i was upset. i didn't understand how a student leader of our university could post something like this. >> it was shocking and disappointing. it happens on the news and you always go home and talk about, oh, look, another racist thing happened today. >> in a statement, the university says it does not condone the actions or images shown in the video. an iconic soccer ball found in the debris of the 1986 crash of spate shuttle "challenger" has been returned to earth. it was presented to ellison by his daughter who was a soccer player in clear lake high school, near the johnson space center. it was recovered in the wreckage and went on display at the school and was recently taken to the international space station. well, the soccer ball returned to the high school last night to a huge ceremony and by the widow of astronaut anazuka. in maine, a 9-year-old boy who has terminal cancer has a simple dying wish. jacob thompson is asking him to send him homemade christmas cards. it started with one card from a friend. after it got out, holiday messages from as far away as antarctica started pouring in. his family is celebrating the holiday early, because doctors say he might not make it to christmas. the cards and gifts help him know he's not alone. >> i like the festiveness. it's making me smile right now, seeing him smile and be happy. it's just been a blessing to, you know, it fills my heart with such joy to see him happy like this. >> so bittersweet. jacob is a huge fan of penguins. his family says it helps distract him. if you want to send him a message, we have the link to his facebook page at abc7news.com. still ahead, getting ready for ski season tonight in the sierra. the unique steps resorts are taking this year to keep you safe. i'm meteorologist drew tuma. the showers have moved out. the skies are clearing. temperatures are dropping tonight. we'll have the accuwea accused of obstructing justice to theat the fbinuclear war, and of violating the constitution by taking money from foreign governments and threatening to shut down news organizations that report the truth. if that isn't a case for impeaching and removing a dangerous president, then what has our government become?
