as a weapon. the university of california berkeley is preparing for the worst ahead of an event dubbed political week. commentator myron whose event planned in february deteriorated into a riot. >> it california secretary of state alex padilla said there's no evidence the system was breached or any voter information was compromis compromised. he said it was unacceptable that it took a year to inform him of the attempted breach. a plane is crashed in glen dale, wedged between an apartment building and smart and final store. two men were able to walk away, and no word on what caused that crash. a popular san francisco search for the driver who plowed into him in a fatal hit-and-run. constantine was known from city hall to the streets of the mission as gus. he was 57 years old. gus was >> reporter: larry, the traffic out there, real blessing and a curse, aren't they? but tomorrow, instead of bumper-to-bumper traffic here on north santa cruz avenue, the road will be closed for eat, drink los gatos. >> at times it's been absolutely unbelievable. backed up for 30, 40 minutes. >> reporter: fred lives in los gatos, and lately he's been avoiding downtown. >> most of the time we go to campbell now. >> reporter: beach traffic approaching highway 17 causes gridlock around town, and traffic apps steer people clear of town. >> not only was it we could not have visitors from out of town come to los gatos, but even our own locals could not get down and enjoy our shops and restaurants this summer. >> we used to have a big parking problem in our town during the summer weekends. now we have no parking problem because there's nobody here. >> reporter: the restaurant stopped serving lunch. >> friday, saturday, sundays are the busiest days in the restaurant business. when there's gridlock, no one wants to sit in traffic. >> reporter: alex is among the business owners who championed a wine walk to bring people back to downtown. the saturday afternoon event includes food, beer, live bands, plus the rare closure of the main drag. meantime the chamber of commerce said it's working with town government on pilot programs for next summer to curb the traffic problem. in los gatos, katie marzullo, abc 7 news. the chp is warning drivers to secure their loads after a piece of metal pierced a windshield today. it happened this morning in oakland on 880. pretty close call for the driver and two dogs inside. fortunately not any injuries. new at 11:00, 200 young girls learn to code tonight. abc 7 news was in san francisco for the code a brighter future hackathon led by the organization black girls code. they used computer programming to address social issues in their community. >> to make your neighbor next door feel safer. what app can you create to make the government run smoother. >> black girls code is on a quest to train 1 million girls of color for science, technology, engineering and math careers by the year 2040. cheryl jennings was honored for her work on health and family issues. the international association of soupism presented her with an award in san rafael. heidi singled out cheryl's work with a nonprofit that helps remove land mines and bring the land back into productive use. the international association of soup ism works with aunorhesnitizaon world. it was coolish today. right? but it's the weekend. we're looking for a change. >> sandhya is going to bring it to us. warmth ahead. >> absolutely. i wouldn't have it any other ng rniy and kristen,la this started out chilly. this afternoon was cooler than normal. that's all changing. take a look at the forecast. we're going to see a warming trend for the weekend. fire danger will be running high. it will be heating up inland as we head into next week. you know fall here in the bay area means fire danger. i do want to show you right now what we are watching. it's the north bay hills we're keeping a close eye on. high fire danger heading into saturday afternoon through monday night in. winds will increase out of the northeast, downsloping wind. that northeasterly wind gusting to 25 will lower the humidity, so the fire danger will increase. take a look at the fire danger index. you'll notice the shaowde,s of fire danger. the yellow is concentrated primarily in the north bay hills. this is where you'll have to watch out. i wouldn't let your guard down if you're in the east bay hills. as you know around this time of year, that offshore flow can really ramp up the fire danger. we're facing critical fire weather conditions. clear skies here in the bay area right now. no rain. we're not expecting any. temperatures anywhere from the 40s to the 60s. as we check out the numbers for tomorrow morning, they're going to plunge. it's autumn. you expect it to get cool. mid-40s to the low and mid-50s. it is going to be a clear night. a chilly start to your weekend morning. but for the afternoon, look at these temperatures. it's going to be so mild. 79 degrees in sunnyvale. nice looking day on the peninsula with the numbers coming up. palo alto, 78 degrees. 67 half moon bay. downtown san francisco warming to 70 degrees. 68 in daly city. north bay, temperatures will be primarily in the 70s and fr80 n the beaches. a good day to be out at the beach. east bay, 75 in oakland. 77 in san leandro. inland spots nice and sunny and mild. 81 walnucreek. i do want to show you there's so much happening around the bay and brewfest in san mateo. in the afternoon mild, low to mid-70s. by evening, still remaining comfortable. good idea to take the sunscreen, make sure you have your shades. if you're going to be at lake merrick for the dragon boat festival, look at this, temperatures in the 50s in the morning, 70s in the afternoon, both saturday and sunday. we also have oktoberfest here in san francisco. 59 degrees. sunshine. and warm. 70 degrees by 3:00. temperatures in the low 60s late at night. also good looking weather for that event. cal is taking on usc tomorrow afternoon. low to mid-70s. one other game to talk about, that's the stanford game tomorrow night. 68 degrees. dropping down to 61. download the accuweather app, keep track of the temperature changes. they're changing all right. the seven-day forecast, going up tomorrow, mid-60s to mid-80s. great weekend for the beach. and then next week, turning up the autumn heat. low to mid-90s inland. mid to upper 70s at the coastline. larry and kristen, it's going to get pretty warm around here, above average. >> turning up the autumn heat. >> i love that. >> it's not a scene from a [ engines revving ] when you drop a 603-horsepower v8 biturbo engine into one of mercedes-benz's finest luxury sedans, what do you get? >> reporter: larry, the traffic out there, real blessing and a curse, aren't they? but tomorrow, instead of bumper-to-bumper traffic here on north santa cruz avenue, the road will be closed for eat, drink los gatos. >> at times it's been absolutely unbelievable. backed up for 30, 40 minutes. >> reporter: fred lives in los gatos, and lately he's been avoiding downtown. >> most of the time we go to campbell now. >> reporter: beach traffic approaching highway 17 causes gridlock around town, and traffic apps steer people clear of town. >> not only was it we could not have visitors from out of town come to los gatos, but even our own locals could not get down and enjoy our shops and restaurants this summer. >> we used to have a big parking problem in our town during the summer weekends. now we have no parking problem because there's nobody here. >> reporter: the restaurant stopped serving lunch. >> friday, saturday, sundays are the busiest days in the restaurant business. when there's gridlock, no one wants to sit in traffic. >> reporter: alex is among the business owners who championed a wine walk to bring people back to downtown. the saturday afternoon event includes food, beer, live bands, plus the rare closure of the main drag. meantime the chamber of commerce said it's working with town government on pilot programs for next summer to curb the traffic problem. in los gatos, katie marzullo, abc 7 news. the chp is warning drivers to secure their loads after a piece of metal pierced a windshield today. it happened this morning in oakland on 880. pretty close call for the driver and two dogs inside. fortunately not any injuries. new at 11:00, 200 young girls learn to code tonight. abc 7 news was in san francisco for the code a brighter future hackathon led by the organization black girls code. they used computer programming to address social issues in their community. >> to make your neighbor next door feel safer. what app can you create to make the government run smoother. >> black girls code is on a quest to train 1 million girls of color for science, technology, engineering and math careers by the year 2040. cheryl jennings was honored for her work on health and family issues. the international association of soupism presented her with an award in san rafael. heidi singled out cheryl's work with a nonprofit that helps remove land mines and bring the land back into productive use. the international association of soup ism works with aunorhesnitizaon world. it was coolish today. right? but it's the weekend. we're looking for a change. >> sandhya is going to bring it to us. warmth ahead. >> absolutely. i wouldn't have it any other ng rniy and kristen,la this started out chilly. this afternoon was cooler than normal. that's all changing. take a look at the forecast. we're going to see a warming trend for the weekend. fire danger will be running high. it will be heating up inland as we head into next week. you know fall here in the bay area means fire danger. i do want to show you right now what we are watching. it's the north bay hills we're keeping a close eye on. high fire danger heading into saturday afternoon through monday night in. winds will increase out of the northeast, downsloping wind. that northeasterly wind gusting to 25 will lower the humidity, so the fire danger will increase. take a look at the fire danger index. you'll notice the shaowde,s of fire danger. the yellow is concentrated primarily in the north bay hills. this is where you'll have to watch out. i wouldn't let your guard down if you're in the east bay hills. as you know around this time of year, that offshore flow can really ramp up the fire danger. we're facing critical fire weather conditions. clear skies here in the bay area right now. no rain. we're not expecting any. temperatures anywhere from the 40s to the 60s. as we check out the numbers for tomorrow morning, they're going to plunge. it's autumn. you expect it to get cool. mid-40s to the low and mid-50s. it is going to be a clear night. a chilly start to your weekend morning. but for the afternoon, look at these temperatures. it's going to be so mild. 79 degrees in sunnyvale. nice looking day on the peninsula with the numbers coming up. palo alto, 78 degrees. 67 half moon bay. downtown san francisco warming to 70 degrees. 68 in daly city. north bay, temperatures will be primarily in the 70s and fr80 n the beaches. a good day to be out at the beach. east bay, 75 in oakland. 77 in san leandro. inland spots nice and sunny and mild. 81 walnucreek. i do want to show you there's so much happening around the bay and brewfest in san mateo. in the afternoon mild, low to mid-70s. by evening, still remaining comfortable. good idea to take the sunscreen, make sure you have your shades. if you're going to be at lake merrick for the dragon boat festival, look at this, temperatures in the 50s in the morning, 70s in the afternoon, both saturday and sunday. we also have oktoberfest here in san francisco. 59 degrees. sunshine. and warm. 70 degrees by 3:00. temperatures in the low 60s late at night. also good looking weather for that event. cal is taking on usc tomorrow afternoon. low to mid-70s. one other game to talk about, that's the stanford game tomorrow night. 68 degrees. dropping down to 61. download the accuweather app, keep track of the temperature changes. they're changing all right. the seven-day forecast, going up tomorrow, mid-60s to mid-80s. great weekend for the beach. and then next week, turning up the autumn heat. low to mid-90s inland. mid to upper 70s at the coastline. larry and kristen, it's going to get pretty warm around here, above average. >> turning up the autumn heat. >> i love that. >> it's not a scene from a [ engines revving ] when you drop a 603-horsepower v8 biturbo engine into one of mercedes-benz's finest luxury sedans, what do you get?
