The ban would not have taken effect until next april but as soon as it was passed opponents began collecting signatures to put the matter to the voters. That gave supervisors two choices to consider this afternoon. Repeal the law, or fight for the ban at the ballot box. They chose the latter. Its a battle we shouldnt be have to fight. Not in the 21st century. Reporter but the fight continues for San Francisco supervisor malia cohen. Shes the sponsor of a landmark measure banning the sale of Menthol Cigarettes and flavored Tobacco Products in the city. Health experts say the candy flavors encourage teenagers to start smoking. The ban was approved by the board in june and the mayor signed it into law. But now the voters will have a say after opponents gathered enough signatures to put it on the bol to the. Its time for us to stand up and say, enough is enough. We will not be seduced by your insidious marketing practices. Reporter the signaturegathering campaign was funded largely by the r. J. Reynolds tobacco company, but organizations like the arabamerican Grocers Association were also involved. The Community Center at civic park would get a makeover and one at Heather Farm Park could be torn down and replaced. But the biggest single project would be replacing the three pools at the citys clark memorial swim center for 20 million. This absolutely is starting to deteriorate. And we need a new pool. Its pretty nice right now. To be completely honest. Like look, ive been living in oakland these last years and ive recently been coming and swimming at this pool again. And i dont have any issues with the pool the way it is right now. City staffers say the pools have safety and Water Quality problems and defective underwater lights. A high school in whats being called the Biotech Capital of the world now has a stateoftheart Biotechnology Lab for students. Abc 7 News Reporter Jonathan Bloom is live there right now. Jonathan, students are really already doing experiments, right . Thats true, they are. Theyve got gloves and safety goggles on and some of them are doing handson lab work every day. In fact, this year as many as 1,000 students will do course work in biotech. Lot of them right here in this new building donated by genentech which cut the ribbon today. Cutting the rib won on a stateoftheart lab that was a pile of dirt a year ago. Students arent just excited for the new building, theyre excited about science. Changing things and plants, change their dna, change their colors by changing sequences. Thats what im excited for, to get to work with a living thing. Reporter the science garage home to a new Biotechnology Program thats almost entirely handson. The kids have access to such great stateoftheart equipment that i didnt even have access to when i went to college. Reporter aldo nated by genentech, south San Franciscos biggest employer, which might have some openings down the road. The future of science is not here. The future of science is here. Its all around us. Reporter that is if genentech and south San Francisco high can defy the odds. The fastestgrowing careers are based in the knowledge of math and science. But half of students are disengaged in science by the time they hit middle school. Thats a huge gap. Reporter so the new building comes with a new curriculum to get kids thinking like scientists. Youre trying new things, youre failing, and youre learning from that. It builds in not only innovation but an opportunity for our kids to really grapple with things. A new lawsuit filed here in the bay area is taking aim at the directors of wells fargo bank. The suit argues Bank Executives and members of the board of directors are ultimately responsible for a culture of deceptive practices and should be financially liable. In a recent development, the bank is accused of bundling a type Auto Insurance with its car loans without customers knowledge. Attorney mark mulavy says the suit is being filed on behalf of concerned shareholders. They want to change the way this bank is doing business. Theyre long time loyal shareholders. Many of them have held shares for dozens and dozens of years. They dont want to run away from the problem, they want to change and fix the problem. What theyre concerned about is the existing management doesnt seem to care. In a statement officials at wells fargo said they are evaluating the complaint. What some of these students are facing right now is the reality that if theyve been cleared to work, they may not be able to work. Reporter the announcement that daca will be phased out over the next six months is devastating. Anxiety from that side, then anxiety from my college life. Its really hard to cope together. Thats why im here. To have our voices heard. Reporter at dbc, dreamers are hard to count, theyre an underground population. Last year 300 undocumented immigrants were eligible for instate tuition and financial aid. This year applications are down 25 . At uc berkeley, up to 1,000 students are undocumented. The announcement has caused a great deal of anxiety. But also i would say resolve. That we make sure that our daca students remain part of our community. Rescinding the daca program will take six months unless congress acts. As of today no new applications will be accepted. Applications already submitted will be processed, including renewal applications. No permits will expire for at least the next six months. Both are closed and owned by this man seen in his linkedin profile, nick winn, accused of failing to report sales and pay franchise and Advertising Fees. The complaint reads, cardio bar depends on reports and royalty payments and Advertising Fees to fund the operation of its business and generate a reasonable return of its franchisee. A crosscomplaint accuses cardio bar franchise of fraud and breach of contract, saying it failed to provide promised training and advertising and the companys mandatory program significantly reduced his revenue. In their counter complaint, winns attorney said mr. Winn repeatedly ride to make his franchises work while only being met with obstruction and sabotage.
