we are looking at a wind shift with temperatures this afternoon by mid-morning warming up as rapidly. we have continued our excessive heat warning. it is the advisory for the bay side regions. that is where we will see the biggest drop. mainly inland and the santa clara valley. instead of smoke today, still high and mid level clouds. we're looking at temperatures coming down with temperatures stopping in the 70s today. mid 90s around the bay. how about 106 today inland. more dramatic cooling for the weekend. >> thank you. developing news out of north korea. they appear to have carried out their sixth and most powerful and provocative nook luclear te. they detonated a hydrogen bomb that could be put on a sben intercontinental ballistic missile. let me also tell you that president trump this morning did tweet saying that north korea's actions continue to be hostile and dangerous to the united states. back to that story in a moment, but our other top story, lisa just talked about it, the heat wave. people are trying to escape the heat any way they can in the shade or at the beach. >> it looked like an hot san francisco skyline. they formed human islands to enjoy shade under the flames trapped 140 hikers in the gorge. helicopters lifted sm of them but some are being sheltered in place. the fire burned at least 50 acres. heavy fire has been seen burning along popular hiking trails along the pacific coast trail. a fire burning near los angeles is now the largest they have ever seen. shifting winds are making the la tuna fire unpredictable. abc news reporter alex stone has more. >> a massive cloud hangs over los angeles. it is a fire known as la tuna wild fire. the flames crept within feet of burbank. fire fighters evacuated hundreds of homes. fighting from the air and standing guard at the end of neighborhood streets as people rush in and out of their houses getting whatever they can into cars. >> it just takes a little wind. >> it is nothing to fool around with. i want to thank those people that have evacuated. i want to say this loud and clear. folks that leave their homes, police assets will stay in the neighborhood. >> the road to safety is full of danger. harvey. it has been blamed for 44 deaths after a man was found in yesterday. president trump and first lady melania were seen handed out meals and touring the area. they are seeking disaster aide d a spare the air alert. as the wind shift takes us through the rest of the day, temperatures are cooler. and then by 4:00 this afternoon, temperatures tops over 100 degrees inland. it will feel muggier
