Taipei, Feb. 11 (CNA) Infected cherry trees in the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area have greatly improved after being treated by a Japanese-trained tree doctor, and as a result this year's cherry blossom season will be especially stunning, according to Chiayi Forest District Office.
Cherry blossoms have been a fixture in the Alishan area of Chiayi County, southern Taiwan, for more than a century, after the Japanese government began planting them in large numbers in 1918, said Lee Ting-chung (李定忠), deputy director of the Chiayi Forest District Office.
