Two KCII area teams will tangle Wednesday in the opening round of the class 1A girls soccer tournament when Columbus travels to Mid-Prairie. The Golden Hawks come into the match with an overall record of 10-5 after a 3-2 win over rival Washington on the road last time out. In the victory over the Demons, Julia Boller led the way with a pair of goals. For the season, the Hawks are led by Esther Hughes with 19 goals. Kaitlin Martin has a team best six assists and Emily Swartzentruber has 75 saves and a 73.5% save percentage. Columbus is 7-4 this season. They were beaten 8-1 by Washington last time out with Juvixsa Valdez scoring the lone goal. On the year, she leads the Wildcats with 15 goals, Aaliyah Santos has a team best six assists and in goal Alynna Leos has 119 saves with a 73.9% save percentage. These two teams met on May third in Wellman with Mid-Prairie winning 7-0. The winner of this match moves on to the regional semifinals Tuesday at Solon against the winner of the Spartans and Central Lee. Action starts tonight at 6p.m. in Wellman.
