Galesburg father and son sentenced to federal prison for intent to distribute meth

A father and son from Galesburg have been sentenced to over a decade in federal prison, each, for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. According to a release from the U.S. Justice Department of Central Illinois, 53-year-old Gilbert D. Bicknell and 28-year-old Michael G. D. Bicknell were sentenced on July 7 by Chief U.S. District Judge Sara L. Darrow in Rock Island. Michael was sentenced to 168 months and his father, Gilbert, was sentenced to 156 months. Upon release, each will be on supervised release for five years. The government presented evidence during the sentencing hearing that both men were working together in early 2020 to procure a kilogram of met for distribution in the Galesburg area. Gilbert entered a guilty plea on August 10, 2021. Michael entered a plea of guilty to the offense on February 2, 2022. The statutory penalties for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine is 10 years to life imprisonment and a maximum life term of supervised release. The Federal Bureau of Investigations, Galesburg Police Department, and Knox County Sheriff's Department investigated the case. Assistant U. S. Attorney Jennifer Mathew represented the government in the prosecution.
