The freezing weather brought by Storm Uri has caused rare 'frost quakes' in Tennessee as the winter storm continues to wreak havoc across the US. Trained weather spotter Cody Warren heard the loud bangs early Wednesday morning which shook his house in Perry County. The quakes, also known as cryoseism, are more commonly found on a glacier in the polar regions. The phenomenon is caused when rain and ice seep down into the soil and then freeze when the temperature drops. When the water freezes, it expands, putting pressure on the surrounding soil and rock which then crack, producing a loud bang.
