going to get bigger if israel's goes in. i think it is important that western leaders to include the united states stand firm in their support. eric: will there be a two front or que quest mixing of foreign affairs correspondent greg powell cut is standing by, greg? >> hey eric. we are right up against that border and it is active but we heard drone in the past couple of hours there have been flares going up there have been explosions. for the past week since we have been at rewatch clashes between israel and the iranian backed hezbollah escalate. a reason why perhaps with a huge ground invasion looming against time for family time to come up north today to be with the troops with a message to hezbollah a destructive war like it waged against israel in 2006 will look like nothing that they try to start something out. take a listen. >> if hezbollah decides to enter the war it will miss the second lebanon war. it will make the mistake of its life. we will cripple it with the force that cannot even imagine and then meeting for hezbollah in the state of lebanon will be devastating. >> the fighting is going on, antitank missiles, mortars, small arms fire coming from hezbollah tank, artillery, drone blast of israel. so f for the past two weeks 19 hezbollah fighters have been killed six israeli soldiers plus civilian casualties. now, the three towns and villages all along the israeli side have been evacuated replaced by about three divisions of israeli troops. a lot of the heavy armor with a lot of damage done on the lebanon site as well. residents there are fleeing. one more note here, israel in the last 24 hours has bombarded airports in both in damascus and aleppo. syria is the pathway for weapons and ammunition coming from iran to its proxies hezbollah and hamas or r a region really in tl back to you. eric: can you explain that when you're at the site you can look right over and you see the enemy israel's enemy sitting there. in terms of iran, what is israel doing now to try and stop the armament flow as you talked about the airports. and other measures while iran has been saying israel will be wiped off the earth if they go into gaza more of the same. >> yes eric. the messaging is very strong. again we hear this from prime minister netanyahu and all the top israeli officials warning very, very clearly to iran, to hezbollah do not get involved in this war right now. they are backing up within armor and troops that we have been seeing as we we been driving ard this area on the other side of the border for the past week. they are ready. the israeli military is ready to respond. hezbollah is taking its measure. hezbollah has been striking is n and again across the border but not to the point of a full-scale war. not to the point of what one would call in invasion. but it could tip over at any point that is why of both sides are playing this game very closely, very tightly. eric: do you think the hezbollah just testing? >> absolutely. we see it here. we are literally less than a mile and a half away from the border. we see the flares going up by the israeli military for there has been infiltration up and down this border. there's been shootings as i mentioned 19 hezbollah fighters six israeli soldiers have been killed in last two weeks. at any other time if it wasn't what's happening now and gaza wasn't happening this would be a major conflict. now it is a situation israel is trying to control, trying to tamp down a two front war would be really, really serious stuff. eric: will have more of that coming up in the newscast. greg palkot fantastic reporting is always thank you. molly: the two front war to southern israel israel continues a pounding gaza today the idf says it will increase rocket fire and airstrikes on the strip to pave the way for the next stage of the war. thousands of troops and tanks are massed at the gaza border preparing for the start of its eminence ground offensive. mike tobin is alive in israel. to you. >> and molly, in advance of what appears to be that inevitable ground invasion troops both in the north and the south continue to get visits from the defense minister in the prime minister of defense yoav gallant tell him the troops along the border this'll be the last operation into gaza because when it is over there will be no more hamas. prime minister benjamin netanyahu told the troops this won't be like other wars. >> i know you lost friends. it is very difficult but we are in a battle for our life. a battle for our home. this is not an exaggeration. this is the war. it is do or die, they should die. >> we hear the airstrikes continue into the gaza strip. about midway down the gaza strip is a refugee camp that took a major hit yesterday. palestinians that hit an open air market decimating the open air market. meantime aid is making it into the gaza strip through the crossing with egypt. some 17 trucks made in today, 20 trucks made it in yesterday madg food, water and medicine. aid workers say it's about 4% of the desperate need in the gaza strip. meantime there are reports still of infiltrators hanging around since the october 7 the massacre. israeli tv says one was picked up today. there's a loud explosion in the background sounds sound like anr striper infiltrator picked up today here in the area of the gaza this but none of this would happen if iran was not finding it. they sent hamas, the fund hezbollah for this is where thee money is coming from. iran has to know if they're going to that is the signaling behind him the gerald ford to let them know we are very serious. there would be dire consequences that they try to widen the war. molly: if you think they believe us as consequences would happen? >> frankly based upon the bite administration previous conduct with a run they probably don't to paid the bite administration has is nothing but project weakness. there is a foolish iran nuclear deal the obama administration started the trying to bring it back again. we constantly think we play nice with iran give them money they're going to somehow come around and be nice. there is palestinian protests happening across america as well. big protests there covering a lot of ground california, massachusetts. your thoughts on what this means? >> the people who chose to protest in favor of hamas need to remember their backing an organization that raped women in the streets that killed the little children present kidnapped little children brought them into a war zone. they are holding hostages. i would not want to be in the side of evil. while you may be sympathetic to the palestinians you cannot be sympathetic to hamas is a terrorist organization part of the charter to destroy the state of israel. >> of the fox news pole shifts us a little toward the topic of ukraine. there are a lot of people who support ukraine getting funding and ukraine against russia. this a limited timeframe for a lot of folks. your thoughts on that? particularly this is a looming debate in the republican party as to how long and how much we continue to fund the war in ukraine. >> is a difficult situation. what people need to remember also is putin is a dictator. he is trying to take ukraine if he is successful there is not going to stop dictators never do. he is artisan baltic states are renegade stage he wants to reestablish the russian empire. if he invades a nato member like the baltic states then americans will start dying for it right now americans are not dying. they're not in a worth russia. if he invades a nato member we will be. it's important to stop and ukraine immature loses their so we do not see him try to widen a war into a nato ally which would (gentle music) molly: back to israel's northern border work hezbollah claim six of its fighters were killed by israeli strikes yesterday despite the united states and others warning the iranian backed group -- warning them against take advantage of the conflict hezbollah fighters continue to exchange a fire with israeli soldiers. cheap international correspondent steve harrigan is live in beirut lebanon with more on this, steve. >> malik the death toll for the two sites after two weeks of skirmishes is 25 deptford hezbollah five israeli soldiers killed for the pace of this back-and-forth fighting over israel has increased. last night israel says hezbollah fired antitank missiles into israel in three different locations. also the warnings from each side growing in their extremity. prime minister of israel visiting northern troops warned hezbollah about getting involved in a second front fight against israel. he said potential damages in lebanon would be catastrophic and un- imaginal bird that is how bad things could get in hezbollah enters the war. we are seeing more and more preparations by israel for just that possibility. they have evacuated another 14 sandwich in the north along the border with lebanon. they're trying to create 2-mile buffer zone between the border and civilians. but both to get siblings out of the way and allow the military free rein in case that does blossom out into a full-blown war with lebanon. molly: steve harrigan those growing concerns to the north of israel thank you. >> if hezbollah goes to war with israel it will make the mistake of his life. we will cripple it with a force that cannot even imagine. and the consequences for its in the state will be devastating. eric: israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu warning hezbollah against opening a second front in the north. as iran and the idf is evacuated communities in the face of the threat and fears there growing a second conflict up north bring in retired u.s. navy captain fox news military analyst chuck nash. captain, israel is gone into lebanon in the past that's a major operation. what do you foresee when you see happening and predict over the next few weeks when it comes to hezbollah the north? >> it difficult to predict what's going on right now. things are such a hyperbolic state. israel says are going to initiate a major ground movement into gaza i believe that's probably going to happen. whether it hezbollah decides to get involved or not that is up in the air. the one thing about deterrence, deterrence is convincing your enemy that if you act, the enemy will be totally destroyed. it's going to fail they'll be totally destroyed. to get there you have to incredible force. you have to make the enemy believe you will use that force and you need consistent messaging. the israelis are doing all of that. if they were to have a two front war that would be bad. if, during that two front war they were major uprisings in the west bank, that would be disastrous. the israelis pretty much widely known. they have nuclear weapons. they are not going to go down without taking a lot of people with them. so the deterrence is going to work against iran. because iran knows they could get wiped out too. i think the iranians are in the end going to put pressure against hezbollah to not get involved. not white in this thing anymore. as far as the force structure of the united states is put into the mediterranean and it is still building. when this is all over we are probably going to have 15 ships and three submarines cruising around the eastern atlantic. now or the eastern mediterranean sorry. that sounds like a credible force. but the iranians are missing our consistent messaging we've been lifting oil sanctions right after this administration took power they restored funding to the palestinians. our messaging has been off do we have a credible force? yes. do they believe we would use it? don't know. think senator ricketts on fox just a little bit ago was spot on with his analysis he thanks the deterrence is down we have turned all the stuff against it in a desperate attempt to clawback that deterrence that we have wasted away over the last couple of years. eric: let's go back to a moment what you referred to in israel's capability. that is the final line do you believe the potential or at least the tehra term ron knows t and that they will stop at some point, go up to a line to try to avoid this conflict from going nuclear. >> absolutely. they've deployed their submarine. they've got cruise missiles and got nuclear warheads if the iranians are dumb enough they may all go down in a ball of fire but i don't think so. they are smarter than that. i think the israelis right now are the ones with the true deterrent capabilities and the true deterrent effect. we are there as a sideshow. like i said trying to desperately clawback. now we can be helping israel we undoubtedly are paid with intelligence, communication intercepts the aircraft carrier battle groups bring a plethora of capability is with them. not just missile tubes in aircraft and missiles. it's intelligence gathering its electronic intelligence, signals intelligence. with carrier battle group stationed there you can bet ththeir other theater airborne assets and maybe even some national assets adding to that intelligence collection capability. we are undoubtedly sharing let me play it a soundbite from senator lindsey graham he is in tel aviv in a bipartisan group of senators he raised the possibility of bombing around oilfield to start a two front war they start a war by hezbollah. here senator graham. at this war grows is coming in your backyard. there will not be two fronts, there will be three. there is an effort to unleash hezbollah on the jewish state to destroy it. my attention will be two to run. these innocent hostages get slaughtered. i hold iran accountable they could stop it if they chose too. the idea this happened without iranian involvement is laughable. eric: is not consistent messaging that tehran hears back up the type of threat of u.s. military force? >> with all due respect to senator graham he has no executive authority. he h is one of 50 centers on capitol hill to the commander-in-chief has the authority to use the u.s. military grade congress has the ability to declare war which they have not done since world war ii. everything since then has been through executive action. so no, he can talk a big game it's all going to come down to, to the iranians, do the other players the chinese and taiwan, the russians with ukraine do they believe president joe biden is in charge of this? [background noises] before protesters cutting with new york's finest last night. thousands attended ei a flood brooklyn proposal sent rally. that was one of the many anti- israel rallies across the country at some of these rallies we heard echoes exactly of hamas terrorist threats those echoes and shouts on the streets of our country. a scb cotton live with much mor. >> good afternoon eric with this video from a pro- palestinian rally shows at one point officers forming a human barricade to try to get protesters off the street and onto the sidewalk. all the while officers are using an intercom to warn people they would be arrested if they did not leave, watch. >> you got to cooperate or the arresting officer. if you resist arrest you may be charged. >> protesters refusing to leave. some even sitting down in the middle of the street to continue chanting put others leading small fires in trash cans. we also saw physical confrontation between officers and protesters, look. [background noises] [inaudible] nypd moments ago releasing a statement on the clashes in a different video. now circulating on social media which appears to show a different officer throwing a punch pretty spokesperson announcing in part officers were struck with flying debris which include eggs, fireworks and bottles. in the course of doing so the officer seen in the video is reacting to active resistant by resistance bycriminals within t. nypd encourages peaceful protests but will not condone our officers being subjected to any form of violence. we know more than a dozen people were detained by police. most issued criminal court summons for ms. disorderly conduct. an estimated 5000 people attending the rally the second large scale pro- palestinian demonstration here in new york city in less than 24 hours. earlier in the day the protest was much calmer as hundreds came by the hour to brooklyn's neighborhood known for its large palestinian community. people in the crowd calling for a cease-fire and for more humanitarian aid to gaza. others denouncing israel and our country support of it. new york city councilman justin brannon represents the neighborhood wrote this in part on next. >> i support the right of israel to exist as a jewish state. i represent where the largest palestinian communities in the country. i support their aspiration for self-determination to exist as an independent state. justice for one will come to the erasure of another. moments ago the statement released by nypd we learned there is no permit obtained for this protest back to you. eric: look like eight melee a sounding cb thank you. molly? >> wall street journal coming out the new analysis on last week's deadly gaza hospital blast after reviewing footage from the area consulting with experts the journal says the blast likely came from a failed rocket that was targeting israel. hamas immediately blamed israel for the killing claiming more than 470 people were killed media outlets quickly parroted that claim. those reports sparked outrage across the region including intensive protests across the middle east. israel later said the rocket was fired by islamic jihad. the death toll was exaggerated by the u.s. government there intelligence supports israel's claim. jon bussey's associate editor the wall street journal joins me now. thank you so much for joining us here on the sunday afternoon. i want to get right to this remarkable report in the wall street journal did they really dug into this geo- located locations in the video and it lacks the timing together. created essentially a timeline of how things happened. we have a graphic we created for the timeline. at any rate it essentially captures things unfolding throughout what happened. your thoughts on this very unique piece of journalism? >> yes this is done by the wall street journal video team. it's quite an interesting bit of video forensics on what happened. basically what the team did was take four different camera shots of that evening october 17 when the blast happened at the hospital. these were cameras. one was israeli surveillance camera another was a handheld video from a passerby i know that was a news feed going on. they were from different directions. what it captures is a series of rockets being launched towards israel in the course of the evening. one of those rockets appears to be a long-range rocket. as you follow it through the four different camera angles, you see a flash occur that experts on rocketry say was very likely the motor failing. that rocket clearly goes off course. instead of heading to israel, it turns in a direction toward the hospital. it breaks up in the night sky. pieces of the fall in a variety of places largest piece likely the fuel of the rockets landed in the courtyard of the hospital. the trajectory is seen in the impact crater coming from an angle that suggests it was a rocket. the depths of the creator is not something associated with a bomb that might be dropped from a plane such as those used by israel but in fact reflect something much closer to a rockets. the videographers really do conclude the angle of the shocked. what happens to this rocket. you see it breaking up in the night sky, falling on the hospital grounds was in fact shot from gaza towards israel. and it went off course. >> a fascinating analysis done. another aspect of this with initial headlines came out try to place the blame on israel hamas original statement. what made it all the more strange is if you look at history there's a whole un report that came out in 2021 talks about rockets that have been fired by the area they fired 1100 israeli citizens roughly 200 landing in the gaza strip. they have been known to accidentally bomb themselves. so there was a history that could have been looked at as well before the headlines were put out. >> 20% of rockets by the united nations were misfires of one sort or another. three of those in the course of their analysis fell on civilians and killed a number of citizens in gaza. so yes there was a history of this. i think for the headline writers and the reporters in this we are trying to reflect was going on, on the ground. what palestinians were saying there is evidently an explosion at the hospital. i got caught out a little bit on this. along with a lot of other media groups. the palestinians were saying there is an evident explosion on the hospital grounds. the report with the palestinians say and you continue to report through the night. and you continue to expand the story is as your additional reporting comes in. and now i think not just the united states intelligence service in the israeli intelligence services but media groups have been able to determine much more clearly what happened. this seems to have fallen in line with what the united nations reported on that one year in which 20% of rockets shot from gaza misfired in landed in gaza.
