joe: we share so many border islands and peninsulas, i think that hilton head they play. it's kind of like the rugged nice neighborhood. >> there was a debate, most recent paul after the debate donald trump up 5 more points. it appears the others attempting to gain ground on the big stage is not working. donald trump was in anaheim, california, yesterday, gave a speech to the california gop where he talked about gavin newsom. is he going to run? is he not enter not until about president biden. >> gavin has become joe biden's top surrogate because he doesn't think biden is going to make it, that's why he's doing it. he doesn't think he is going to make it and it won't be him, he is going to have a big fight. some people say biden is going to make it. does anybody think he is going to make it to the starting gate? the guy can't find his way off of the stage. i've never seen this stupid stage before. never seen it. but if i walk left is a stair and if i walk right there is a stair. and this guy gets up, where am i? . where am i? where am i? he is terrible. terrible. rachel: a lot of people talked about the debates this past week, donald trump is very funny. that moment captured what we all think. you got to capture a really interesting conversation at the debate. >> the governor of california was there as biden's surrogate, gavin newsom was in the spoon room, talk to sean hannity for a while and after he left the set, come over to fox nation. go ahead. pete: he would've enjoyed the interview, he is a tall guy, who fits the part, is willing to go into the lion's done to answer questions which i asked him a little about the debate and i said is joe holding you back, listen. >> i assume you're a fan of "fox and friends"? >> i watch you guys, it is fox, i'm here. >> you feel biden is holding you back from running? >> are you kidding? i'm passionate about promoting the biden not only agenda but the great implementation which is his second term and having his back. character, decency and i'm an old-fashioned guy, believe in a little loyalty. >> he said i believe in loyalty. don't know if it is loyalty or opportunism but he sees his moment. >> we talked about your interview. a podcast this week, you can catch part of it on my podcast from the kitchen table and you can catch the whole thing on the will kane podcast, we talked about your interview and gavin newsom on the podcast and what i said to sean and will is one of the things you can say about gavin newsom is he has the same kind of comfort in himself and confidence in himself that i think donald trump has and makes him stand apart from people on the debate stage and anybody else who might think about running in a democratic primary should president biden step out. he's clearly trying to make a move here, we would not be talking about him. he would not be at the debate spin room, would not be talking with you. if he did not have other ideas in mind. most people think president biden is not going to make it to the end. pete: i don't know why you guys are worried about gavin newsom. rachel: we can talk handsome. joe: your jealousy has longer hair on the sides. that is what it was. that is what it was. listen. but there is -- that's funny, you got to laugh at that. when i watched the republican debate, retail politicians selling talking points. it was a tagline in the middle of nothing but it was reversed and written by a staff member and gavin newsom doesn't seem to do that. some of the appeal -- it stops there but he does have a big decision coming up. he is going to be in the headlines. he has to replace senator dianne feinstein. obviously tragedy, she passed away but this is important, there's a lot going on, he promised to appoint a black woman, did that in 2021. the controversy now is of those he knows wants to run for the seat, he says he's not going to and he's going to have a lot of people calling his office. pete: he will do what benefits gavin newsom. watch this pick. what he should do is appoint kamala harris. appoint kamala harris, check that box, move her out. she is never going to be president. she already does have -- it is -- it is terrible that it has got to be a black woman. >> they are the bean counters, they are the bean counters, can i go wildcard at you? all right. he said it has to be a black woman. i was just going to say it could be meghan markle and you could be sure that meghan markle, you can laugh at that but you can be sure that she is lobbying for herself right now, this is why she tried to be friends with jill biden, she had her mind on this for a long time. i bet she predicted this could happen long before any of us thought about it. it is interesting, she's a black woman. as much as we make fun of her and don't like her and most people over the age of 40 don't find her appealing, a lot of young people do. he could hit both. just putting it out. >> opera. how many celebrities still live in california. >> she lives near meghan markle i believe. >> with rfk and this appointment we are about to enter a moment here. things are changing because two things are happening, so self-evident that president biden is not capable of being the candidate and also evident not only is donald trump going to win the republican primary but he is ahead of president biden in the polls including in key states and that can't be tolerated. so something has to change. don't know what it will be but gavin newsom will be a big chess player now. pete: whoever it is is going to be a surrogate for gavin newsom over the next important few months of votes and we will see who it is i guess. >> the impeachment inquiry is still ongoing and is part of that, more evidence being discovered, including president biden's brother, remember this name, the big guy, biden's brother called him the big guy when he stopped meeting to take his calls. you know he's calling? the big guys calling a newly surfaced text messages show a communist chinese party linked businessman offered to wire hunter biden tens of thousands of dollars to cover expenses. that's the wall street journal headline, how president biden's relatives profit off of the family name, the big guy is calling me. >> we heard the big guy from the famous laptop from hunter biden and democrats and defenders of president biden have tried to say that doesn't necessarily mean it is president biden but here you have this which is more evidence, keeps getting worse and worse, there's a biden and his name is a person and these are the text messages uncovered by republicans, hunter saying i am appreciative of whatever was comfortable with my uncomfortable partnership this way. i've been just really trying to figure out how to resolve this without resorting and a person says i talked to bo, the chinese guy, the person giving the chinese -- to get the money. talk to bo previously about the 37 k, he didn't for injured. talk about 100 k. it depends on liquid assets in the us. his only problem is getting large sums out of china especially now. he goes on to say that both suggests he feel so bad because hunter is going through this hard time financially with alimony and all this stuff and he should take a break and come to china to relax. there is. he says he is on his way to the bank, be in touch when confirmed, he will help me with what you need and mentioned you should take it to china sometime this month to get away for a week or so just to decompress because it is exhausting when you are the money back for the biden family and doing cocaine and have prostitutes, need some time to decompress from committing treason against your country by taking money for the chinese. taxing. pete: we watched the impeachment inquiry hearing, we don't know everything the republicans have but you can spit in our face and tell us it is raining. what democrats are hung up on hunter did it doesn't mean joe did, may never be able to prove with her record or text or some sort of documented proof that joe biden was in on it but how dumb do you have to be to believe hunter biden did all this without any promises? did they get this done when president biden was in office and got paid for it afterwards? is there a law against that? what the american people should take away from this is less about the partisan politics and more what are the rules that govern the people to govern us? this is not just a biden problem. not trying to spin this anywhere but we had republican senators get in trouble for how they were trading going into covid, what they were investing in, there might have been some consequence to that. where are we? will there be consequences for president biden? consequence for others in power that may find whatever gray area is there and get rich off of it and possibly commit treason in some way, maybe not legally been in matter of fact. we don't trust our leaders and this is why and there should be consequence for that regardless if they broke the law. if there isn't a rule and they are the only ones who can make that rule, who's going to go and run for office on the platform of bringing some sort of transparency and honor to these offices. rachel: want to get to the bottom of every detail about the ukrainian phone call, set up there on the day ascent not care at all about getting any information about that. the only thing, i realize the department of defense using this, 10% for the big guy, a famous phrase, what if they mean 10% for the big guy? that could be part of the defense. rachel: and jim biden getting a call from god. you know what? the bottom line is there are rules against this kind of behavior and president biden was the vice president when much of this was going on and it is illegal in the question is accountability, not what rules are on the books. everyone knows that what they did is illegal and by the way there's also on the left -- on the laptop, proof that hunter biden was coming funds with his dad and paying bills for his dad and all kinds of weird arrangements. as you said, the dots are there, there are people who don't want to connect with them because it has implications for the next election. >> trump, bush, clinton, biden, even if you are not in office anymore, means you don't get rich off of it afterwards, maybe that. turning now to your headline starting in maryland, suspect arrested yesterday in the killing of off-duty sheriff's deputy brian dmv. the 23-year-old was shot multiple times outside a bar, he was rushed to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. police say the tragedy happened after a fight spillover from another bar. and army helicopter trashing powerlines during a routine exercise last night in washington state, southeast of seattle. it was quickly contained, both pilots were taken to a training center for evaluation. this is under investigation. to baseball, the al west race coming down to the final days of the season, mariners keeping hope alive with three home runs in the first four innings >> right field, bye-bye!m. it is a lead! >> reporter: mariners taking the game 8-0 with two games left to play against the rangers, still no team in that division with a guaranteed ticket to the playoffs. that's the way you sell tickets all season long. the astros keeping their al west hopes alive with a 2 to 1 win last night, houston taking on the diamondbacks tonight, there were no trash cans inside and those are your headlines. rachel: back to abbey in boulder, colorado ahead of the usc colorado game. how's it going? we can help with that, too. with the advanced connectivity and intelligence of global secure networking from comcast business. it's not just possible. it's happening. >> arizona deputy lucky to be alive this morning after falling 15 feet trying to stop a human smuggler at the border. the suspect, 47-year-old amber bernadette is charged with human smuggling and the dui after the high-speed chase. our next guest says this is the third time in several days deputies have been put in harm's way. cochise county, arizona's sheriff joins us now. this must be so frustrating to everybody working in law enforcement at the border. tell us a little bit more about this incident and what the impact is of these kinds of incidents on the morale of the forces trying to control the flow. >> good morning and thanks for having me on this morning. this is a slippery slope herein cochise county in the border. we said this the last 21/2 to 3 years. it only continues to get worse. this incident, we had deputies smuggling, he went to deploy tire spikes, deputies were pursuing this individual on your screen. deployed the spikes pulling the spikes back, lost footing on the bridge, went over the guard rail, went down 15 feet, had multiple fractures. we had another media crew with us, that to notify law enforcement he was hurt so the deputies continued the chase, didn't know their partner was hurt. one of the agents was flagged down into the watch area. and after being flown out that night after being rescued, having a chance to talk to him for 36 hours, he had surgery most of the day yesterday. he is lucky to be alive. let me just say that. rachel: it puts law enforcement in danger. when you hear human smuggling i think about the children and we've seen some pretty harrowing images of children being pulled through barbed wire, many of them in terrible condition. what do you see on that front? >> the got aways, and the cartels, mainly us citizens, by the thousands, all about money, working for the cartels, they will do anything they can to get out of my county placing citizens at risk, this is not the first person to be injured, deputy has been injured and months back a smuggler tried to run them over and another driver was killed in that incident. the strategy we are seeing, two officers on the trail by smugglers. this is ongoing every day. citizens are tired of it. the state, my office, where is the federal government? they act like we don't have a problem, every day that goes by we see another tragedy on the southwest border. rachel: i can't imagine how any town, any community can absorb this kind of influx and the danger it presents as they try to get out of your county. i don't know what to say, the president refuses to go down there. we had elon musk putting a little but of attention, what's your message, if you can say one thing to democrats in congress and the president himself about what your community is facing? >> we are facing, i take an oath of office similar to the president of the united states takes, to protect america. i'm doing my job. where is the president? where secretary mayorkas? where's the majority of congress when it comes to securing this border? is there a connection? >> a lot of our vets also have service dogs, horses in your house, a dog stays by your side, a horse will get you outside your house and the community. we have a big community of veterans coming together to give you purpose and also they are totally different from horses. you've got to trust them. joe: they are big animals, they are intimidating. their intimidation is more about their own ability to save themselves rather than attack you and i love this. as a veteran i had a chance to do it but i absolutely love it. >> i'm very excited. this is my first time being in new york city. i told my wife i would love to do it. joe: is there a way to bring your horse with you? you are talking to somebody who wouldn't mind a shutting half the government down but what is the impact of this shutdown? >> we are talking the deadline tonight at 800,000 government workers that could be furloughed as a result. what we understand right now, the two sides are very far apart. in some ways this could be a good thing that i never think job loss or furloughs are a good thing but this economy is really hot so that will slow things down so the government will be spending less but that is what is at stake and for the average government worker it is a scary prospect. december 2018 this happened, 300,000 workers were furloughed. it had an impact on gdp. when you think about that in the broader scale of things with other stuff we are going to talk about, that could bring the growth down in this country. pete: and other people who will pause in that particular moment. you've got that and the autoworkers strike which has been ongoing for weeks. sort of cascading. they didn't strike everywhere all at once. they targeted certain plants in certain states to put pressure on the big three. what the impact? rachel: 13,000 so far but the uaw president said this could expand to 38 production facilities across 20 states. every week this goes on, you are talking another 10% gdp. the longer it goes, the more impact it will have. we've not recovered from covid 19 when it comes to auto prices. the supply-chain shortages, the problems we had, the autoworkers, the auto parts supplier that could be impacted lose their jobs or at least temporarily, talking car prices going up at a time when the american consumer is already strapped and if you want to purchase a car those interest rates are up. pete: the big arrow behind you is what you emphasize, vehicle prices going up like everything else in everyone's lives right now. there's another thing moving on the calendar too which is student loans. if you took one, very soon you have to pay it. what does that mean? rachel: this could be looked at from both sides of the coin. all these kids that are getting a break, spending money, contribute into that inflation to the tune of one hundred billion dollars, october 1st which is sunday their payments will resume. they are going to shift that spending to pay back what they borrowed which is a good thing to a certain degree but that will slow the economy, big retailers like walmart and target's where a lot of kids are spending their money saying we might see an impact as a result of that and this is a shift of i want to bring it back to bidenomics because that started all of this. if you wouldn't have pause the payment so long the inflation wouldn't have gone so high, the fed wouldn't have had to jack up the rates, it all has to impact him everything cascades. pete: talking about christmas coming up, the retailers have signaled they are not hiring as many seasonal workers. rachel: on the spending side the holiday is coming, hard to tell little johnny that you can't purchase xyz or put as many gifts under the tree. pete: biden did that to you. on top of a gas prices. i was just in california. we can talk about the national average but in california, $7 a gallon and going to $100 a barrel, this is a big one. rachel: they are so highly regulated out there, that's why the price is the way it is but national averages in this country, $3.82, oil as you mentioned 90 one dollars a barrel here in the united states, probably heading up to one hundred, that will take gas prices up so student loan payments you are not spending that money in the economy, money from gas prices not spending it and putting it back in the economy, the good news is this will bring inflation down. jerome powell says people have to lose their jobs, there's going to have to be some sort of tough love situation scenario we go through, gas prices are huge part of that. i'm sort of an expert on energy, doing this my whole career, seasonally, they should be going down now which they were supposed to peek july 4th. now we are going into fall and they are going up and you've got opec plus saying we are going to take advantage of this, president biden, we are going to cut our production and make those prices go up because they profit from it, we lose. and all of that into it. >> if you purchase a car it will be more expensive, now you got to pay student loans. the state parks will be close, you can't drive to them anyway. >> golden forecast annual gdp, looking at over 3%, bringing that down to just north of one% so recession i don't know. we can debate about the definition of that but slowdown, yes. brian: are you better off now than you were three years ago?
