angeles and this is america's late news, fox news at night. and breaking tonight, brand new exclusive information coming into fox news at night showing that a quarter million dollars was sent from beijing china to hunter biden. and the beneficiary address was the delaware home of president biden. meantime democratic senator bob menendez has legal and political problems of his own. now one-third of the senators in his own party are calling for him to step down because of bribery charges. and there is now concern about the balance of power in the senate. the senior national correspondent kevin corke is live from dc with more on both of those investigations. kevin, good evening. >> reporter: what a night here in the nation's capitol trace. evening to you, house oversight committee chair james comer of kentucky has actually been investigating the biden family business dealings and the president's alleged involvement in those ventures, which is why tonight hunter biden, the news that he received wires that originated from beijing for more than a quarter million bucks, well, those same wires that listed joe biden's home as the beneficiary address, that's all raising eyebrows. comer subpoena then later received records of not one but two wires originating from beijing, something we are certainly going to keep an eye on. this is happening as all sorts of democratic senators on capitol hill continue to call for bob menendez to step down from his post in the senate following revelations of hundreds of thousands of dollars and gold bars being discovered at his home amid influence peddling allegations. as you know, trace, democrats narrowly control the chamber with just 51 seats and that includes three independents who normally vote with them and that's compared to the republicans 49. however, before you gop fans get out there and say we can take this, keep this in mind, the garden state has not sent a republican to the senate since 1972. trace. >> trace: 51 years later, might be time for a change. >> maybe. >> trace: kevin corke live in dc kevin let's bring in former deputy assistant john yoo the fox news headlines reads, the following, hunter biden received 250 k wires originateing in beijing with beneficiary address listed as joe biden's home. i mean, i don't know if there's anything really illegal about this, john, but, boy, it just looks dirty and cozy. >> this is the benefits the way congressman comer and house republicans are conducting their investigation. i know a lot of people want to see, when are they going to put hunter biden under oath before the house. that's not the way you do this. you build the case slowly steadily by getting financial information like this. first, and we're starting to see this now. where's the money coming from? beijing moscow coming into biden family accounts. next step we're going to ask is, where did it go? what did it pay for? did it pay for cars, did it pay for houses. that's the next step only after you get that does it start to make sense to bring in the headline witnesses. >> trace: it's interesting because a lot of people talk about this john and they say james comer's doing this. remember james comer was a banker, he was a banker by trade so when he sees these kinds of transactions and these suspicious activity reports he is alerted and knows what he's talking about. moving on reuters writes the following here, bob menendez should resign say a third of u.s. democratic senators and then goes on to say democrats far offensive line control the chamber with 51 seats including three independents who normally vote with them to the republicans 49. i mean, it looks bad, john, right? it could be costly to the democrats here but it appears it is going to be costly for bob menendez. >> it's hard to see how he can stay in the senate while his own party is deserting him, although he has a presumption of innocence, he has a right to go to trial. he says he's going to go to trial. last time the justice department tried to convict him, they could not convince a jury. interesting thing as you say trace is how does this affect the senate balance of power, especially how are democrats going to turn on menendez like this so quickly when we just talked about the biden family and money coming in from abroad and sitting in suspicious accounts and we're not sure why it went, are they going to be so kick to jump and ask for joe biden not to run for president or even to step down if there are more facts discovered by congressman comer. >> trace: that was my next point but i'm going to go back to reuters again because they said quote judge arthur ruling in a civil lawsuit brought by new york attorney general leticia james found trump and his companies deceived trump insurers and others by mass ill overvaluing assets and his net worth on paperwork securing deals and making loans. what do you make? is there any effect at all of this on the campaign, et cetera? >> this is going to be very hard for president trump to overturn on appeal. it looks like, according to the facts of the case, that there was a lot of exaggeration going on in the valuation of his properties to get better deals for loans. but the bigger question is why is a new york attorney general trying to take out one of the major party candidates for president? why don't they just let the voters decide this november, next november, rather than trying to knock someone out using the criminal justice system or in this case the civil justice system. >> trace: fair question. john yoo thank you for joining us. >> thanks trace. >> trace: meantime the breaking news on hunter biden and senator menendez is likely to come up during the republican debate at the reagan library less than 24 hours from now. that's fbn correspondent grady trimble is live with a look ahead. grady good evening. >> good evening, trace. there's a growing buzz here at the reagan presidential library as the candidates and their campaigns arrive, kind of get the lay of the land here. you know, when we talk to voters across the country about their top issues in the 2024 election, two that come up over and over again are immigration and the economy. so let's start with the economy. the debate will, of course, be an opportunity for these candidates to sell their vision for the economy, contrasted with bidenomics. as you can see in these poll numbers, voters are increasingly unhappy with president biden's handling of the economy. >> i'm concerned in a few years, when i'm ready to retire, that we're going to have an economy that would allow me to, or am i supposed to work until i'm 70, 80 years old because i can't ard afford to. >> you go shopping everything's more expensive, eggs, fruit, generallying tabs meets, you go out to eat and it's more, and last couple months gas prices are going up too. >> and as the crisis at the southern border is now spilling over into cities across the country, it has been a huge focus for the republican candidates. florida governor ron desantis has advocated for using deadly force on drug cartel members. vivek ramaswamy says, as president, he'd go a step further than former president trump's wall and send u.s. troops to secure the border. take a look at the podium positions for tomorrow night. a few changes from the last time around in wisconsin. former south carolina governor nikki haley moving closer to center stage after a strong performance there in milwaukee. trace, it will certainly be a high stakes night for all 7 of the candidates on stage. starts at 9:00 eastern and 6:00 here in simi valley, trace. >> trace: and we will be there. grady trimble live for us thank you. he will be live in simi valley california after the debate tomorrow night we will have debate analysis and talks talk to the candidates themselves you don't want to miss that. meantime let's bring in lee carter and madison gilbert, thank you both for coming on. lee i want to know, strategy wise, how do you go after the form president trump when he's not on stage? >> well, i think one of the things that none of the other candidates that are going to be on stage tomorrow have really captured the hearts and minds of the republican party, and the thing that donald trump has done is he's made this argument that the system is rigged, that everything seems unfair, and he is the one that's going to fight for you. now, whether you like it or not, 70% of americans do believe that the system is rigged and he's really made a case, it's emotional and it's visceral. the other candidates haven't yet made that and they have to. ron desantis has a really great sort of tell, right now he's really been focused on fighting the woke wars and protecting children. what he should be really focused on is the fact that freedom, people are objecting agendas forced and can't make choices themselves and that's what ron desantis should talk to. nikki haley is a practicing ma activity, she hasn't tapped into anything emotional and visceral. what they need to do tomorrow night is to tap into something that believes our lives will be better. >> trace: the fort worth star telegram asking the following, presidential debates usually draw rounds of ants patory regulation. who will come out swinging, who needs a big night what issues will the moderators focus on. the second meet-up of the 2024 candidates set for the fox business cable channel tomorrow night, brings out one question, why are we doing this again? they're staying, okay, what's the purpose of this. you talk to me about that, madison because it's a big topic. >> it's the same thing we talked about during the first debate. we as a republican party have a vision in stark contrast of what people have been experiencing for 2.5 years under president joe biden. he's been a failure not just on the economy and the border but every issue. we oh see him in michigan not supporting the uawworkers when he says he's the most pro union president in our history and that's not true. this is the case tomorrow forthe candidates not only do we have a vision but we need you to get out and vote for us. not just our candidates for primary voters butr voter who may not be sure who they're voting for next november.>> tra poll up on the screen about a minute left. fox business poll 2024 republican primary, without trump in the race, this is in south carolina primary voters, nikki haley you can see there, lee, leads this 27% followed by desantis, tim scott, vivek ramaswamy. do you think these numbers hold weight? do you think this is all going to change after tomorrow night? >> you know, look, 35% of voters switch their mind during a primary debate. so something could happen. and certainly we saw that nikki haley had a breakout performance the last time. as for vivek he also did as well. the others, ron desantis has to have a knockout night. if he doesn't he's going to go by the way side similar to what happened to jeb bush in 2015 and 2016. so something big has to happen. i'm not sure any of the capped dates are up for it we haven't seen that kind of energy come out of them yet but it could. >> trace: madison final thoughts. >> i encourage been to tune in tomorrow night anything can happen but at the end of the day we as a party will be behind the candidate. >> trace: big tonight? >> everybody needs a big night but we are behind the candidate no matter who we are committed to beating biden and we want people to bank their vote >> trace: you business owner said, quoting, i'm going to lose money but i've got to make a stand. common sense thinks he's right. better to close for a day and make noise than to close forever and make nothing. because shutting down for good seems to be a pattern, and not just for the independent business owners, cvs is now saying it will shut down some 900 stores by the end of next year. the cvs statement didn't directly point to crime but, then again, the statement didn't need to, because target took care of that announcing it, too, will be shutting down nine stores in the coming weeks. and target did release a statement blaming, quote, theft and retail crime. it's interesting, the nine stores that target is closing are in four states, new york, washington, oregon and california. and in california, one of those stores being shuttered is in oakland. common sense thinks, it's a good bet the ceo of target wasn't on strike with the other oakland small business owners, but it's also a good bet that
