good afternoon. i'm martha maccallum. so president biden vowed to be the most pro union president in history. he certainly tried to exemplify that today in the battleground state of michigan where we'll see former president trump later today. he's now the first sitting president to join a strike picket line. >> you've earned more than what you're getting paid now. that, the enemy, isn't some foreign country miles away. it's right here in our own area. it's corporate greed. >> corporate greed. the president talking about in michigan just a short time ago. we have reached out to all three of the big automakers, the ceos of all of those three big car companies. general motors did put out a statement. they declined. they're not going to speak publicly at this time about the president's decision to join the picket line this afternoon. g.m.'s statement said this: its focus is not on politics but bargaining in good face. the president made the short hour-long flight from the white house to michigan today in the face of calls to travel further and see what is happening at the southern border. there's clearly a problem that is on the minds of not just the folks that work at the car companies but people all all across the country. so clear choice to go there and not here. where you're looking right now. or he could have swung by last week when he was at the u.n. at the roosevelt hotel, which is an epicenter of the problems that are plaguing the country with the influx of thousands and thousands and millions over the past two years. migrants that have come in to the country in a chaotic fashion and flooding in to america's cities. the roosevelt hotel now being called the new ellis island. republican congressman byron donalds will join me in just a moment. he said securing our boreder is a question of national secure. there's no question about that. you have 146 people plus that crossed in from the terror watch list and fentanyl pouring in. clearly it's a national security issue. he will talk to us in just a moment. first to katy pavlich, it's a fox news contributor. it's interesting the battle with green energy that joe biden has pushed for and the cost on the car companies that is clearly part of their bargaining power with their employees right now. >> well, the white house has this battle brewing and it has come to fruition with this strike. the climate agenda lobby continues to push for this forced transfer by the federal government through regulation at the energy department and the epa to electric vehicles by 2035. now, they have big problems on the economic side with this strike meaning it's going to get rid of 30% of union jobs. the bigger picture is how much money these companies are losing. ford will lose $4.5 billion on these electric vehicles. $60,000 per electric vehicle that they produce. the white house has said that they can justify this because of the inflation reduction act. they passed a trillion dollar bill that gives subsidies to the companies to make up for the cost. they're forcing the taxpayer to fund this climate change agenda that these car companies are now having a huge problem with when it comes to their own workers and politically when you see president joe biden there today walking the picket line, there's been no change in his policy when it comes to these forced regulations. president trump came out with a statement this morning saying he would repeal those regulations immediately and allow the free market to work with this transfer that the biden administration is forcing on to these workers, on to these car companies and on to the broader country and economy. >> yeah, i'm trying to find the number. the statement from the g.m. ceo, you know, they have offered very large pay raises. there's discussion about potentially a 32-hour work week, which has never been seen in most -- 99% of companies in this country. some companies are trying it with mixed success. your take on sort of the fairness of all of this from the corporate perspective and these employees. >> a 32-hour work week is something that will be difficult to push through. you saw republican senator john hawley, however, walking the picket line in missouri and getting some interesting perspective from workers there. they say they're asked to work six or seven days a week. they want guidelines when it comes to a five-day work week. the broader economics at four days, 32 hours is something that the company has to consider when they're trying to turn a profit. >> martha: here's an nbc poll. republicans are trusted 50% to deal with the border, which we'll turn to now. democrats 20%. so the president deciding to ignore that issue. he's had all kinds of opportunities. he's headed to your home state of arizona later this week. will by pass that entire texas area where people are pouring across. clearly it's something he's trying to avoid. thanks, katie. >> great to see you. >> martha: so another layer to this crisis are the drugs flooding across the border. border patrol releasing these new images in fiscal year 2023, 69,000 pounds of narcotics seized between ports of entry including close to 3,000 pounds of fentanyl. keep in mind two milligrams of fentanyl can be lethal. we saw a baby in new york city that was killed lofting some fumes that came from a drug den in new york that had a front as a day care center. this is the biggest business that the cartel has ever had. they're running this business. they're running this border. griff jenkins reports live from eagle pass, texas. one of the central spots of trouble here. hi, griff. >> good afternoon, martha. you're exactly right. business has never been better for the cartels. in fact, what is happening right now, the crisis here on this border is the cartels dream. let me take you to the fox fly team. you can see this area, that is so busy for 2,000 migrants every day for the last week plus. agents have been doing nothing but dealing with them. they got a vip visit just an hour or so ago, martha. we can show you video that we got of the border patrol chief over the entire border patrol, jason owens. he came here with his team and saw it first hand. migrants were streaming over. most of them are from venezuela. but in this area, the officials that run this sector in eagle pass tell me that they have got about 50 agents on any given day dealing with these numbers. owens while he was here did make a statement to the press. here's some of what he had to say. listen. >> while my men and women are dedicated in this efforts, they cannot be out on patrol looking for fentanyl, other narcotics, criminals that are taking advantage of us not being out on patrol. >> we have an exclusive interview with chief owens tonight in "special report." >> martha: thanks, griff. we look forward to that. with that, we bring in byron daniels. congressman, always good to have you with us. thanks for being here. i know you're busy with a lot of issues on oversight. every president has 24 hours in a day. this president chose to use some of that time to get on a plane, go to michigan and walk in a picket line today with uaw workers which is something that hasn't been done before. he has lost some traction with laborers, with blue collar workers across this country. no doubt he's trying to win them back. what to you make of that? >> what i think of it is, it's ridiculous, it's politics, it's posturing, continued weakness. it's no leadership. joe biden should be at the southern border sealing our southern border, stopping the flow of drugs coming in. with respect to what's going on with the auto workers, he needs to reverse course on his green new deal electric car fantasy. that is the thing that will cause the workers to lose jobs and to lose more wages because that boondoggle does not make dallas for any of these companies. that is the bottom line. he's pandering, but he's a failure. that's all he has left. >> martha: i'm curious. they welcomed him there today. and the union embraced it. you know, i wonder why they don't look at him and say exactly that. you're going to take our jobs away with the green energy proposals. why are you doing that? >> who embraced him is the union leadership. joe biden has been bought and paid for by union leadership since his first run for the u.s. senate 50 years ago. who is not embracing him are the rank and file men and women that are working every single day. they're the ones that are crushed by his inflation, they're the ones whose children have been left behind because of his crazy covid-19 policies. and they are the ones that will have their hours cut and their wages cut because the companies that they work for can't make enough money because of his stupid policy around electric cars. >> martha: this is an image of a 2-month-old baby who was -- this child was abandoned at the border and picked up by border patrol officials. breaks your heart to see these children. at least 85,000 have been released in to the country. where is the crisis management around these issues and who these children are being released to? >> major questions. let me be clear. there's no crisis management with this white house. joe biden doesn't lead. crises happen and he go takes a nap. it's incumbent upon house republicans to lead the way. there should be no funding for this government if our border is not secure. because a simple question is, why would you fund a government that simply will not secure the homeland and its people? for that matter, why would we let it happen where young kids are left unaccompanied, left to fend for themselves. young girls are raped on the border and on the journey by the coyotes and the drug cartels. this is totally inhuman what joe biden has done. >> martha: you have outline add crisis, which is very real. we know the numbers. we see what is happening in these situations. you say that there will be -- you're willing to shut the government down over this issue, right? so take us through what you think will happen over the next few days as we get -- run in to the deadline and others want to pass this yet another continuing resolution to kick the can down the road. >> there's a couple things. the senate wants to do a clean cr and see everybody around christmas or january. i'm a no to that. if this government continues in operation, the border must be secured, period. enough is enough. our country cannot take this. i didn't care about anybody's politics. you live in a red state, blue state, everybody is getting this damage done to them. it's simply because of radicals in the executive branch that want this policy. they have been wanting it a long time. now the american people have to see it -- >> martha: but it's backfiring on them, congressman. why don't they shift around it? it's backfiring around them. they're losing -- you can see the numbers of latinos that report republicans and conservatives. you also see the border issue is a negative issue at this point based on what's going on. >> the reason they won't reverse course, the staff at the white house are ideologs. they have wanted this open border policy for as long as they've been in politics. now they have it. they won't reverse course. congress has to force their hand and do what is necessary to make them -- >> martha: so you're willing to shut down the government over this issue. do you think you'll get somewhere? you think you'll end up with a secure border as you define it? >> i'll be clear. joe biden wants to shut down. if he secures the border, there will be people on capitol hill to work with him. if he chooses not to security the border, he will shut down the government, not us. >> martha: thanks, congressman. good to see you. >> thank you. >> martha: so as vivek ramaswamy prepares to take the debate stage tomorrow night, marc thiessen has dropped a bomb shell in a report today digging in to his past business dealings in china and uncovering a connection that he says and he will explain his reporting here to hunter biden when we come back. [sneeze] dude you coming? because the only thing dripping should be your style. plop plop fizz fizz with alka-seltzer plus cold & flu relief. also try for fizzy fast cough relief. i was tired of throwing money down the rent drain, so to speak. after watching the admiral that just made up my mind, i said, i'm calling newday usa tomorrow. 70 more dollars over my rent. i'm actually owning my own home because newday usa focuses on the va homeloan benefit. that's their expertise. i felt like i would definitely get a better shake. the admiral said that my service is, you know, my down payment. for us that was important not to be able to have to put anything down. i was aviation in the marine corps, 30 some million dollar aircraft. if the country, american people can put that kind of trust and confidence, the equipment that we fix, literally $200,000 home. can you help me? can somebody put a little bit of belief in me? and i felt like i felt newday did do that. if you can afford rent, you can afford to own. to maximize that va loan benefit and not pay anything out of my pocket was tremendous. i had my doubts, but i don't anymore. loving this pay bump on our allowance. wonder where mom and dad got the extra money? maybe they won the lottery? maybe they inherited a fortune? maybe buried treasure? maybe it fell off a truck? or maybe they switched to xfinity mobile - the fastest mobile service. save hundreds a year over t-mobile, at&t and verizon. now i can buy that electric scooter. i'm starting a private equity fund that specializes in midcap. you do you. switch to xfinity mobile today. >> martha: new jersey's other senator among the latest democrats and everybody was waiting to hear from cory booker this morning. okay? on what he was going to ask bob menendez to do, what his recommendation was. he said his colleague, the senior senator from new jersey needs to step down. he deserves obviously the presumption of innocence. although everybody seems to be railroading past that a bit. he called the accusations against him shocking. so the feds say that menendez took cash, gold bars a mercedes and more in exchange to giving sensitive information to egypt and interfering in criminal cases for three businessmen in new jersey. the senator says he will clear his name. he says there's no reason to resign. national correspondent bryan llenas on this fast-moving story that has a ton of political implications joins me here in new york. hi, bryan. >> this morning it was three. now at least 18 democrat senators are calling on senator bon menendez to resign. not democratic leaders chuck schumer and whip senator dick durbin who says menendez deserve as fair trial. the pressure onmen is ramping up as his friend, cory booker, called on menendez to step down writing in part "senator menendez fiercely asserts his innocence and therefore understandable that he believes stepping down is unfair. but i believe this is a mistake. i believe stepping down is best for those senator menendez has spent his life serving." senator booker testified as a character witness for senator menendez in his 2017 corruption trial that ended in a mistrial. booker and republican senator lindsey graham told the court menendez was trustworthy, which he then appreciated. >> when your colleagues come to testify for you says a lot. says a lot for senator graham and senator booker. >> this time there's pictures of alleged bribery payments, gold bars and mercedes benz and cash found in his home. menendez says it's found stashed away because of his cuban heritage. >> for 30 years, i have withdrawn thousands in cash from my personal savings account. which i have kept for emergencies and because of the history of my family facing confiscation in cuba. >> senator menendez will be arraigned tomorrow. will hannah, a co conspirator is being arraigned today. >> martha: with that, we bring in marc thiessen, "washington post" columnist and fox news contributor. thanks for being here. i'm struck by this. let's put up on the board, the senate democrats that are calling on bob menendez to resign. they can't get in front of each other fast enough based on these allegations, this is serious. this is a weighty indictment. the "wall street journal" says the problem is not his eat ethnicity. they say he deserves to be judged by the jury or by the voters. why do you think, marc, they're all rushing so quickly to tell him that he has to leave? what is the real reason? >> because the seat is up in 2024 and this puts new jersey in play. it's that simple. the democrats already have an uphill battle. the field is tilted towards the results. the democrats are defending 23 seats and three veteran trump states and five in states that biden barely won. the republicans are defending ten seats. this is already a map that is very favorable to the republicans. new jersey wasn't in that calculus, right? so now if bob menendez stays on the ballot and the republicans put up a strong candidate against him, they could lose that seat if the election goes -- if there's a wave election next time around. >> it's quite clear. i'm amazed by the number of people that want to roll over the justice system and say, you know, an indictment is one thing. you should leave right away. clearly there's political reasons behind that. marc, you made some strong allegations against vivek ramaswamy saying he has a china problem and a hunter biden problem as well. give us a sense of what you're getting at here. >> so after -- at the last debate, vivek ramaswamy said all the other candidates were bought and paid for. i thought that was offensive. we should look into his china business dealings, this is public information. i lifted the rock. what i saw was disturbing. as recently as four years ago, vivek ramaswamy was doing business with high ranking members of the chinese communist party including ccp-linked family that funnels millions to hunter biden. so his partners in china were a company called civic pe, the state invest meant arm of the chinese communist party. the ceo of that company is a guy whose father was the number 5 official in the ccp propaganda minister. he's wife, vivek ramaswamy's business partner's wife is the daughter of the chinese state minister of security that ran all of the influence operations around the world. she as part of those influence operations funneled $5 million to hunter biden's business. >> martha: let me -- >> he was in business -- >> martha: this is the statement that we got from trisha mclaughlin, his spokesperson. vivek's business had a subsidiary in china before the count wound down operations there as the risks became apparent of doing business in china. we need leaders to understand complex issues and vivek believes in learning from experiences. a lot of american companies did business in china. the difference here as i see it in terms of hunter biden is that hunter biden had no experience in the area in which he was advising these companies. vivek ramaswamy had a going concern that he was working on, this biotech company. and then he backed out. he said i'm getting out of here. >> i don't know if he backed out or it just failed. he was in business as recently as 2019 with the son of the chinese communist party's propaganda director. the wife -- his wife was funneling money to hunter biden. he's the only candidate who has offered to give taiwan over to communist china. if he says everybody else is bought and paid for, it's worth asking why is the only person in business with communist china -- >> martha: sounds like a debate question. we'll see if it turns in to one. >> hope dana is watching. >> martha: thanks, marc. take care, a big line-up this hour. dave rubin, david asman and congressman lee zeldin live from new york. >> martha: to new york city. a once iconic is now referred to as ellis island hotel. as you can see, in these images that were obtained by the "new york post" and they don't really let reporters go in there, but this reporter got in there. migrants are lying all over the floors of this hotel trying to sleep upright in their chairs because there are not enough rooms to go around. former new york republican congressman and former candidate for governor, lee zeldin is standing by. first to nate foy reporting live at the roosevelt hotel. hi, nate. >> hi, martha. any grants are scattered all around the block around the roosevelt hotel. the pictures show migrants in what used to be the former bar. migrants are now seen resting inside. they're in chairs, some are lying on the ground there. the city clearly just overrun right now. this situation could get worse, martha, because 13,000 single adult migrants are supposed to be sent here to reapply for housing this week. that is something that will now happen every 30 days. what is really upsetting new yorkers is the price tag for this. take a look at this, martha. mayor adams is extending the contract with hotels by three years for over $1.3 billion. lawmakers on both sides of the aisle call it wasteful spending for a manufactured problem. >> these are no bid contracts. the mayor has a right to do it under emergency. he's doing it. that's a mistake. we're paying more for hotel rooms than we should. >> martha, right now the city is operating over 200 migrant shelters, over 60,000 migrants in the city's care. city officials are in court today challenging the right to shelter mandate because mayor adams admits the city just can't fulfill the obligations of it. >> martha: let's bring in former new york republican congressman, lee zeldin. i heard today the roosevelt hotel is where guy lombardo, you know, used to play in the ball room there, no more. this is a mess. >> a lot of people listening to you yesterday learned that in 62 years of ellis island, 12 million people came through. >> 62 years. 12 million people. i just want to say that one more time. and 7 to 8 million people came in in the last 24 months. >> right. you're playing a clip of a democratic city councilman talking about the no-bid contracts. new yorkers of all walks of life are concerned about the effects here. housing costs, the impact on education, quality of life on public safety. the list goes on. this is only going to get worse with sanctuary city policies that we see in new york city. sanctuary city state policies that come out of new york state neither the governor or the mayor are calling on president biden. so it will get worse before it gets better. new yorkers of all walks are stepping up to stop it. >> martha: and doesn't seem to change their feeling about politics there. the new york sienna poll that came out a week or so ago, asked is the influx of migrants a major issue? 62% said yes it's a may job problem. when you ask them if you support president biden and kathy hochul, it was in the 50/50 range. >> yeah. that must be frustrating as a republican. >> there's more people that are realizing how it impacts them. you do a statewide poll and you started thinking about impacting my life directly and my community maybe three hours away from new york city. the answer might be a bit different. it starts coming closer to home when these buses are starting to make its way out to the suburbs. i don't know. if i was the mayor of new york city, maybe at the beginning of, this i would have sent the buses back or send the message. the message going out is not just to the other governors and mayors, but enthe people abroad. governor hochul said december 2021, she had a video calling on people to come to new york. calling on these illegal aliens, the migrants to come to new york and we'll feed you, provide you education -- >> martha: president biden said that during the debate. you should come. my message is, you should come. that's what is happening. you talk about this city and other cities. this is a chicago town hall last night. watch this. >> no, that's not part of the format for today. >> martha: people are not happy. >> there's a whole other way to let your voice be heard. it's at the ballot box. in places like chicago, places like new york city and elsewhere, there will be opportunities -- new york city council races, a lot of people far left on the council. in council districts that won last november. there's a lot of people coming on the right and from the center. they care about the economy, crime, quality of life and ready to take their government back. you don't want to give them a voice in a town hall? they will take back their voice. >> martha: fascinating to see how this plays out politically. it's not likely to get a lot better over the next several months. we hope for solutions. we certainly do. but we'll see. yeah. lee zeldin, thank you. thanks for being here. so breaking and surprising update involving the death of a 1-year-old baby who died of fentanyl exposure at a new york city day care. that is next. we're traveling all across america talking to people about their hearts. ooh, take this exit. how's the heart? i feel like it's good. you feel like it's good? how do you know when it's time to check in on your heart? how do you know? let me show you something. it looks like a credit card, but it is the kardiamobile card. that is a medical-grade ekg. want to see how it works? yeah. put both thumbs on there. that is your heart coming from the kardiamobile card. wow! with kardiamobile card you can take a medical-grade ekg in just 30 seconds from anywhere. kardiamobile card is proven to detect atrial fibrillation, one of the leading causes of stroke. and it's the only personal ekg that's fda-cleared to detect normal heart rhythm, bradycardia and tachycardia. how much do you think that costs? probably $500. $99! oh, really? you could carry that in your wallet! of course you can carry it your wallet, right? yes, yes. get kardiamobile card for just $79 this world heart day. don't wait. this offer won't last. get yours today at kardia.com or amazon. >> martha: senate minority leader mitch mcconnell speaking right now on the senate floor about spending. let's listen in just a moment here. >> policy priorities shutting the government down over a domestic budget dispute doesn't strengthen any one's political position. it just puts important progress on ice and it leaves millions of americans on edge. so i expect they will finalize a short term funding extension for review. i would encourage our colleagues to join me in support ago standard responsible step forward. >> okay. senator mitch mcconnell has a different opinion than byron dod don donalds, a congressman that doesn't want to see a clean cr that doesn't kick the can down the road. so take a look at this. americans say that they think that republicans would do a better job on the economy than democrats, this is by 21 points. an nbc news poll. 1,000 registered voters. that's a big margin. it's the biggest lead in fact for the gop that they have seen in this poll at nbc in more than 30 years. that's a big deal. we've seen other numbers that line up with it as well. the "wall street journal" reports that americans are starting to feel the sting of the federal reserve raising interest rates again and again and again the last 18 months or so. they're trying to brick down inflation. buying a home or car right now is completely unaffordable for the typical american household. you're mixing the higher borrowing costs with the higher prices of what you're buying says the chief economist at moody's. let's bring in david asman. that caught my eye this morning. they talked about a young couple that put enough money to buy a house. the mortgage payments are so high that they're driving the one car that they had left from college and they don't foresee the ability to buy a new car for some time. >> they're lucky they can buy either. the prices have gone up from inflation. mark zandy, the guy you quoted, he's the white house's favorite economist. he's not a conservative republican. according to his figures, i'm going to run through three numbers here. this is the cost of bidenomics, by the way. the effects of inflation, this is according to mark zandy, 8,800 more a year for just goods and services. the cost of interest rates, which have gone up because the fed is trying to battle inflation, they're raising rates to do that. buying a new car, you mentioned a car. it's an extra $1,800 a year. that is how much more you're paying in car payments than you were two years ago. buying a home, the big -- the american dream. that's the big one. if you want to buy a $300,000 home, you're paying an extra $9,384 a year in interest payments. that's on top of what you were paying. yes, it's true that salaries have gone up. no question about that. they haven't gone up enough to make up for that. you add all this up together, that's an extra $20,000 a year. how many people have gotten an extra $20,000 in their income every year? very few. >> martha: it's a good point. they don't. let's put up this screen, this full screen. inflation adjusted median income has dropped. so in 19, it was 78,250. now it's 74,000 and change. so they're making less money, interest rates are higher. my question is, at what point does the fed say we've gone too far now. nobody can afford to buy anything. >> the problem is that we still see the ticking up of inflation. despite what the president says, inflation is over, it's not true. >> martha: maybe they have not been able to roll through the economy enough yet? >> the old analogy, like getting in a shower and first it's too hot and too cold -- >> martha: this is not goldy locks. >> yeah. it's a fine art. the food prices have continued to go up. there's no question. the price of gas is going up because the price of oil is going up. there's still inflationary pressures. the main thing is the price of government is exploding. exploding. we have never seen an increase in our government the way we have over the past three years. that is the main price you should keep your eye on. until that begins to go down, these prices are not going to change. the american public is going to have to pay for it. the american dream is more elusive than ever. >> martha: right. they're paying for the american government and it cost a lot. thanks very much. david asman. very good to see you. >> good to see you. >> howard stern and former president trump. here's a matchup. that's a tease enough, right? they go way back. but their feud is getting worse right now after the so-called -- self-proclaimed king of all media declared that he's proud to be woke. he likes it. he's leaning in to wokism. the rubin host david reuben next. >> i am woke as [bleep] and i love it. are getting out of control. not long ago, you could pay off a car in a few years. now, car loan rates have climbed to 15% and can take five years to pay off. so get this, the newday 100 va cash out loan. our lower rates let you use the equity in your home to pay off high rate car and truck loans. and you can save $500 a month. >> martha: california governor gavin newsome signing a bull to double taxes on guns and ammunition and to pay for more security at public schools is he says how he will use that and for violence prevention programs. california is the only state with their own tax on weapons and ammo on top of what the feds charge. it comes as there is a lot of talk about newsome possibly getting in to the presidential race. he says that he will not challenge president biden saying that he deserves to be able to run for a second term. we'll see where that goes. it appears there's no love lost for howard stern and former president donald trump after these comments set off a feud between the old pals. >> if woke means i can't get behind trump, which is what i think it means or that i support people that want to be transgender or i'm for the vaccine, dude, call me woke as you [bleep] want. >> martha: president trump turned to truth social writing this. the real howard stern is a weak, pathetic and disloyal guy that lost his friends and his audience. i did his show in the good old days and he went woke. howard stern hit back with this. >> imagine you got to be the 45th president of the united states. and you're sitting here writing about howard stern. you know, trump saw me disgusted on his conservative media things and he got charged up. i'm this -- i stole the excitement for a minute or two. >> martha: all right. with that we bring in dave rue rubin. he's are two men with a lot of attention in the media. egos on both sides. what do you make of this one? >> they're two men with a lot of attention and a loot of egos. let's not forget a lot of hair. the battle of the hair. that's what this is about. i'm not sure who is jealous of who with whatever is going on with both of their hair. this is sort of interesting. because you'res ago when donald trump was running the first time in 2015, you may remember that because donald trump had been on howard stern's show many, many times over two decades, a lot of people wanted howard to release those tapes because god knows what trump was saying about women he might have been with. howard even though he wasn't supporting trump because he's a liberal and lefty, to his credit, he did not release those tapes, this seems like a bit of a bad fight for trump to be picking because he could release those tapes. maybe it doesn't do anything with the base. i would say more broadly, howard doesn't understand what woke is. woke has to do with not wanting guys in girls bathrooms. most people don't want that, i guess. howard stern is saying he wants that. most people have become somewhat skeptical of the vaccines or at least how they were delivered over the years. that doesn't make you woke. you know, that makes you wise, if you have woken up to what's going on here. but they kind of deserve each other. howard used to call himself the king of media and trump likes to think he's the king of media. in a weird way, they meet each other right now to maintain some degree of relevancy. >> martha: an interesting point about the tapes. i had forgotten about that back and forth. i would -- it appears that the former president isn't concern about that. he's going after howard stern in this. so i would assume that he's -- that that's not high on his list of concerns. you know, it's interesting though. is howard stern getting the kind of attention that he used to? in terms of the way that -- the places that people go to, joe rogan and bigger names now that are having to debates especially most younger people are engaging in. >> sure. in many ways, that's really what this is about. stern -- i want to give stern full credit. he was a hero of mine growing up. my first paying gig in media was on sirius xm in a different hall than him. i always wanted to meet him. our politics have gone different ways. his a dinosaur in the tarpits at cyrus xm. everybody has an iphone. you can listen to the internet, listen to my show, listen to rogan, fox nation, et cetera. that is different than the amount of people and it's a decreasing amount of people that have sirius xm in their cars. they're not being put in cars anymore, i don't think. he knows that his day as the king of all media is coming to an end. so as the king -- as one king is going out, you're going to throw arrows at the other king. that's what we're seeing. when cnn says he's going after rogan, it has little to do with them thinking that rogan is up to no good. what it has to to with is that rogan gets ten times if not 20 times the viewers that cnn wishes that they could get. this is about competition more than anything else. >> martha: absolutely. wanting to have people talk about you, which both of them need to have in the blood streams. >> they are good at that. >> martha: thanks, dave. see you soon. >> thanks. >> martha: so breaking right now, the husband of a new york city day care owner has now been arrested in mexico more than a week after a 1-year-old child died from exposure to fentanyl at a supposed day care center. he was found on top of the mats where the children take naps and behind the wall in the same facility, they were cooking fentanyl, packaging fentanyl and getting it out there. eric shawn has this breaking news for us on this arrest in mexico. hello, eric. >> hi, martha. a shocking and sickening and horrible story. authorities also say they found drug paraphernalia and fentanyl evidence under the floor of a day care center where these toddlers, the 1-year-olds were playing and being on the mats. now fox news can confirm the husband of a day care worker at the center where the 1-year-old boy die has been arrested. arrested in mexico. police say they found narcotics in those drugs and the day care center. investigating after three children were found unresponsive. u.s. attorney here call the day care center a drug mill. gray mendez, the owner of the day care center says she doesn't know anything about the drugs. she rented a room to her husband's cousin. the cousin was in the country illegally from the dominican republic. both are facing charges. the two face up to life in prison if found guilty. again, the husband nabbed just this afternoon in mexico in this horrible case of authorities saying that a day care center used as a fentanyl drug operation to cover that up. >> martha: i wonder what will happen to the inspectors. is someone examining whether or not they did their job? >> yeah, there's an investigation about that. had a clean bill of health. >> martha: amazing. thanks, eric. breaking news there in new york city. a scheme too help democrats win elections. that is the accusation against a tax exempt voter registration charity that is supposed to be nonpartisan. mark meredith is digging in to see what there is here. mark meredith reporting live from washington. mark, what can you tell us? >> martha, good afternoon to you. helping people register to vote seems like a straight for ward if not admirable thing to do. there's a new report by capital research and it suggested democratic donors and activists are using tax exempt groups to further a political agenda. the report says they found ed dating back to 2015, as the clinton campaign was gearing up showing democratic donors giving millions to groups like everybody votes to help boost t turnout. >> what we found is one of the largest and most partisan voter registration campaigns in american history was being conducted under the guise of nonprofit charity and operated in a nonpartisan fashion. >> they argue multiple groups are using their 501 c-3 status to further a political agenda. they have restrictions imposed by the irs for bidding election activity. on the web site, the group says they're committed to creating a more representative democracy by building and supporting large school long-term voter registration for communities of colors. house lawmakers are looking into this too. they sent a letter to the irs says congress may have to close loop holes on influencing american elections. we've seen states like florida take action against these groups. the effortses are being challenged in federal court. martha? >> martha: these groups portray themselves as get out the vote operations. the question is, are they partisan and last question, mark, they are accepting federal funds for these programs? >> well, these programs are basically what they'll use to get people to register to vote in different communities. what this report was compiling is some of democratic donors said this is their best chance to boost their turnout and by going in to these groups. it's important to say, martha, both parties have been accused of using this. but this report indicated it's the democrats taking the most advantage since 2015. >> martha: thanks, mark. mark meredith reporting. thanks for being with us. that's "the story." it's september 26. still rainy in new york. the story goes on. we look forward to seeing you tomorrow at 3:00. tomorrow night, i'm in for dana. see you at 5:00. have a good hour. see you later. >> fox on top of what is on the line. president joe biden hits the picket line.
