idalia dangerously close to being a major category 3. now within about 100 miles of the florida gulf coast where some areas of florida's big bend could get catastrophic 15-foot storm surge. matt finn is live in saint pete, florida as it idalia closes intricate is beginning to look bad where you are. >> trace, the wind and rain has been very consistent for several hours now. the beach where we are is a barrier island to the tampa bay area. only about a 20 minute drive rest up tampa bay. this is considered zoned "a" of evacuation area. this is under a mandatory evacuation because of how low-lying this area is. fema and the national weather service in pinellas county officials have been warning that this area could see a 7 to 10-foot storm surge. anybody who remains here at this hour now perhaps faces that storm surge. governor desantis has warned that if you have not evacuated this area now, if you were to dial 911 are called emergency services, they may not be able to respond this area. it is so low-lying that it typically does see flooding. we have covered hurricanes in this exact area in the past where we have seen businesses and resorts go underwater. we will be here throughout the night and warning and keep you updated. >> back to you as the news warns. live in saint pete beach. thank you. let's bring in michael presley bobbitt an author, playwright and resident of cedar key which could be in for a direct hit. we talked earlier and you said you were going to ride this thing out. any second thoughts as it gets much closer? >> in for a penny and in for a pound. we are here. we spent all day getting the island as ready as we can be and getting things boarded up with sandbags and encouraging as many people as possible to leave. at this point we are here and set up for the evening. we have some resources in plays that wants the storm surge abates we will have some boats ready to go. the elderly and the infirmed that frankly just refused to leave the island, we will get out there as soon as we can to help them. >> the deputy director of the national hurricane center said a short time ago, i am quoting, that cedar key is right smack in the middle of that area. i am especially concerned for them because the entire island could be cut off with conditions like that. matt finn was just reporting if, in fact, this thing gets bad, there is no chance that helped, come and get you. what is your plan in case things get really bad? >> that's exactly why i am here and a few of us have stayed. help is not coming. there are some folks that frankly will be in a dire situation. and might be the better part of the day before help can come. so we have a safe location that is at the top of a hill. it's a stone building that we believe will withstand the winds and will stay above even the most catastrophic predictions of 15-foot storm surge. we have a safe base of operations. i will tell you a 15-foot storm surge is complete and total devastation of the island. maybe four or five buildings will remain and everything else will be totally inundated. this is a worst-case scenario regardless of how the hurricane may wobble between now and landfall. i don't see a way out where cedar key still looks like it did this morning. >> we will check back in with you. i want to know if you change your mind in the next hour or so, is there still a way for you and the people they are to get off the island? >> there is. probably until about 6:00 in the morning i think there is a way out. i am exhausted. i have been going nonstop since daylight this morning helping folks. i'm about to lay down and take a nap until about 3:00 in the morning. then we will get up and reevaluate. by about 6:00 we will be cut off. >> michael, best of luck to you and the people on cedar cedar key. we will check back with you. we hope everything goes just fine. breaking tonight a brand-new bombshell report seems to back up claims from a former ukrainian prosecutor that he was fired for investigating an energy company tied to hunter biden. the senior national correspondent kevin gorg is live in d.c. with what new e-mails are revealing about the investigation into burisma. >> something else. good to be with you wants again, my friend. huber recall there was an interview with fox news last week and that former ukrainian prosecutor repeated allegations that joe biden got him fired for a probe involving burisma. now there are e-mails from hunter biden's abandon laptop obtained by the daily mail that seemed to lay bare just how the first sun may have been involved in attempts to keep law enforcement from looking into possible corruption at the company. according to that report hunter connected burisma with a d.c. consultancy by the name of blue star strategies. it is run by a form of former clinton officials. a burisma official spelled it out in an e-mail in november 2015 riding this. the ultimate purpose, he wrote, of there work was to close down for any cases or pursuits against burisma's founder who was under investigation in ukraine. those investigations, trays, would have included interrogations of members of the executive board including hunter biden according to victor jochen. to be continued. >> indeed it will. live in d.c., thank you. let's bring in chairman of the house judiciary committee congressman jim jordan. great to have you on. i want to set this up. the timeline is this. on may 12, 2014, the day before hunter biden is put on the board of burisma for a million dollars a year he gets an e-mail from burisma executive that says the following. i am quoting. we urgently need your advice on how you can use your influence to convey a message, signal, et cetera to stop what we consider to be politically motivated action. that action, of course, was someone investigating the corruption at burisma. what do you make of that? >> that action was the pressure that was referred to in this now famous meeting on december 4th. this was in 2014. a few months later on december 4th, 2015 the meeting in dubai. hunter biden, devon archer and the guy you just indicated and the head of burisma. they are meeting and the pressure is so intense that we need your help. they have seized $23 million of our assets. we are getting pressure from the prosecutor. what can you do? five days later. actually, there is a phone call at the meeting where they get on the phone with someone in d.c. no one who tells us who it is. we all kind of imagine who it was. five days later joe biden goes to ukraine and gives the speech where he talks about firing the prosecutor. this is before that. this is the run-up to that. this is building the case for why they want to get show can off the back and how they want hunter biden to help with the situation. >> these e-mails will be key going forward. we now know that jay bratt who's a top agent special counsel with jack smith met with white house officials multiple times. the new york post writes the following. they met at the white house on march 3rd, 2023. a spokesman for smith's office said the case related interview and a person related said it was an interview of a career official who was working at the white house during the trump administration. nine weeks later on june 8th trump was indicted by smith's office. at the very least, it looks bad, congressman. >> yeah, you have the top guy with jack smith the special counsel going to the white house. how many times have we heard karine jean-pierre stand at the white house press briefing room and say the department of justice operates independent from the white house. we have no involvement in the trump matter. no involvement whatsoever. really? what happened at this meeting? was jack smith there. was he the proxy or the go-between? we don't know. we want to know what took place. it's not supposed to have any type of appearance of this kind of thing going on. what happened at this meeting? who were they talking about? what took place. that's what we want to know. that's what the american people want to know. >> eventually the media will have to start covering this. it just looks very convenient. thank you for your time. we appreciate it. >> thank you. meantime gold star families continue to demand answers about the disastrous afghanistan withdrawal in 2021 that took the lives of 13 servicemembers. marianne rafferty is live with the latest on this. good evening. >> very emotional testimony from the families. the house foreign affairs committee hearing from the families today. the gold star families are speaking out. the committee has been taking a closer look at the chaotic withdraw that left 13 american service members dead and many of those family members like christie shamblin who lost her daughter-in-law marine sergeant nicole gee saying she has been waiting too long for answers for a tragedy she believes was entirely preventable. >> while those victories belong to the troops, there were failures. i can count over half a dozen opportunities to stop this tragic ending. >> the pentagon says military commanders on the ground made the best decisions based off what they knew at that time. adding, from the investigation at the tactical level the abdicate attack was not possible without degrading the mission without maximizing the number of evacuees. we heard from the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff who released a statement bowing accountability. >> we will see if it happens. thank you. let's bring in house foreign affairs committee congressman cory mills and u.s. marine veteran and founder of mighty oaks foundation chad robichaux. thank you for coming on. congressman, to you first. i spoke with cheryl rex who lost her son dylan in kabul. i asked her what president biden could do to at least give her some comfort. here is what she said. i will get your response. >> he could call me. i have a phone number. he could call me. i'm not sure what he could do at this point to honor them. they their names, talk about them. man up and talk about your failures that you held in afghanistan. >> the thing is, he won't even reach out, congressman. >> yeah, it's truly despicable and shameful that not only could he not mention all 13 of these brave heroes at the state of the union or at any point in time. but even when the bodies were arriving at dover he was busy checking his watch to see what time it was. or talk about the loss of his son beau biden. i don't buy what they just said about the fact that there was some intelligence. i have gone into the skiff and read the daily intel briefs. i read the department of state cables. i can tell you there was actionable and credible intelligence that told them on a daily basis up to the point when the actual mission planning was finished and the imminent threat was being presented at the abbey gate on the 26th of 2021. >> it's incredible. i want to put this up. general mark milley says he gave the families, he was talking about information. he gave the families information. but the father of hunter lopez responded and said this. i will get your response. >> the issue is not the lack of information during those briefings. it is the disregard of intelligence. it's the disregard of planning. that is what you should be apologizing for. >> the total disregard of intelligence. they were warned that there was terrorist activity at abbey gate. >> absolutely. let's start from the beginning. the generals that advise president biden advised against this. the intelligence committee members advised against this. the dissent cables that the congressman was talking about that said do not due this. there was actionable intelligence all the way through where you had marine snipers on the ground saying we have a bomber at the gate. we need to engage. they were not allowed to engage. all the way from the very beginning they had all the information they needed to make this catastrophe. i was there doing evacuations. something bad is going to happen. everybody new. they knew something bad is going to happen and they chose. that's important to know. they chose not to do anything about it. >> i want to play the soundbite and get a quick reaction from both of you. this is pennsylvania congressman. watch. >> it is a fact that the end was devastatingly heartbreaking. a tragic terrorist bomb tearing away so many. civilians as well as our servicemembers, your loved ones. still, it was necessary to bring this war to a close. >> congressman, they are missing the big picture. i have 15 seconds for each of you. >> the bottom line is there tone deaf to the fact that they are trying to pass the buck to the previous administration. they don't want to take accountability and don't want to be transparent. even if the war had to come to an end it should have come to an end on our terms and not cost 13 goldstar families. >> your final thoughts. >> he didn't have to come to an end. the afghan national army and police on a strategic place in the low. afghanistan sits in the middle. we had 2500 troops there at one point. we had 2500 troops all over the world. this did not have to end this way. >> that is right. chad robichaux, congressman cory mills. we appreciate your time. thank you both. >> thank you. johnson has finally solved the city's car at that problem. apparently the solution was super easy. instead of going after all the car thieves which takes resources and manpower, the mayor went after car companies suing kia and hyundai for manufacturing cars that lack the appropriate antitheft measures. common sense has this right. the politicians and the far left soft on crime policies are not the problem. it's the lazy, greedy car companies. chicago does not have an abundance of car thieves. chicago simply has too many cars that are easy to steal. brandon johnson is the same mayor that scolded the media for calling these young retail thieves mobs because the word mob is apparently offensive. instead, they should be referred to as large gatherings. for the record, chicago is low-lying this area is. fema and the national weather service in pinellas county officials have been warning that this area could see a 7 to 10-foot storm surge. anybody who remains here at this hour that helped, come and get you. what is your plan in case things get really bad? >> that's exactly why i am here and a few of us have stayed. help is not coming. there are some folks that frankly will winds and will stay above even the most catastrophic predictions of 15-foot storm surge. we have a safe base of operations. i will tell you a 15-foot storm surge is complete and total devastation of burisma. >> something else. good to be with you wants again, my friend. huber recall there was an interview with fox news last week and that former ukrainian prosecutor repeated allegations that joe biden got him fired for a probe involving burisma. now there are e-mails from hunter biden's abandon laptop obtained by the daily mail that seemed to lay bare just how the first sun may have been involved in attempts to keep law enforcement from looking into possible corruption at the company. according to that report hunter connected burisma with a d.c. consultancy by the name of blue star strategies. it is run by a form of former clinton officials. a burisma official spelled it out in an e-mail in november 2015 riding this. the ultimate purpose, he wrote, of there work was to close and the pressure is so intense that we need your help. they have seized $23 million of our assets. we are getting pressure from the prosecutor. what can you do? five days later. actually, there is a phone call at the meeting where they get on the phone with someone in d.c. no one who tells us who it is. we all kind of imagine who it was. five days later joe biden goes to ukraine and gives the speech where he talks about firing the prosecutor. this is before that. this is the run-up to that. this is building the case for why they want to get show can off the back and how they want hunter biden to help with the situation. >> these e-mails will be key going forward. we now know that jay bratt who's a top agent special counsel with jack smith met with white house officials multiple basis up to the point when the actual mission planning was finished and the imminent threat was being presented at the abbey gate on the 26th of 2021. >> it's incredible. i want to put this up. general mark milley says he gave the families, he was talking about information. he gave the families information. but the father of hunter lopez responded and said this. i will get your response. >> the issue is not the lack of information during those briefings. it is the disregard of intelligence. it's the disregard of planning. that is what you should be apologizing for. >> the total disregard of intelligence. they were warned that there was terrorist activity at abbey gate. >> absolutely. let's start from the beginning. the generals that advise president biden advised against this. the intelligence committee members advised against this. the dissent cables that the congressman was talking about that said do not due this. there was actionable intelligence all the way through where you had marine snipers on the ground saying we have a bomber at the gate. we need to engage. they were not allowed to engage. all the way from the very beginning they had all the information they needed to make this catastrophe. i was there doing evacuations. something bad is going to happen. everybody new. they knew something bad is going to happen and they chose. that's important to know. they chose not to do anything about it. >> i want to play the soundbite and get a quick reaction from both of you. this is pennsylvania congressman. watch. >> it is a fact that the end was devastatingly heartbreaking. a tragic terrorist bomb tearing away so many. civilians as well as our servicemembers, your loved ones. still, it was necessary to bring this war to a close. >> congressman, they are missing the big picture. i have 15 seconds for each of you. >> the bottom line is there tone deaf to the fact that they are trying to pass the buck to the previous administration. they don't want to take accountability and don't want to be transparent. even if the war had to come to an end it should have come to an end on our terms and not cost 13 goldstar families. >> your final thoughts. >> he didn't have to come to an end. the afghan national army and police on a strategic place in the low. afghanistan sits in the middle. we had 2500 troops there at
