borders. here is a quote from george washington's farewell address saying it's our duty to be a member of peace. but in the 20th century things changed, even if we didn't want them to. we got dragged into world war ii. that was our first exit from isolationism. we were involved in the war. after the war america returned to its isolation roots, and because we did, fascism was able to take over. freedom for the world was at stake, ban only great britain stood between liberty and greater oh bretion. millions were killed. we paused, but hopeful isolation only delayed our sacrifice as japan hit pearl harbor and they declared war on us. america made sure the good guys won and freedom and liberty would once again thrive in the west. the sole heavyweight opponent was the soviet union and their communism. and 40 years later we won that war, too, the cold war. now it looks like we are going to relinquish the crown. it began with obama's apology tour. >> in america there is a failure to appreciate europe's leading role in the world. brian: that went over well with china. >> they were barbaric, they had bitten all over my body. brian: it's still happening now. listen. as for russia. their barbarity is beyond comprehension. >> my son was wounded. two bullets went through his body. >> i told the one who raped me i am old enough to be your mother. he made me shut up. >> my children are dying. i could only take my daughter with me. brian: if we learned anything from our past, we should know avoiding conflict only delays conflict. if we don't confront things on our terms, it will be on our enemies' terms. america has global responsibility that comes with being a great nation. >> we are not going to make america great again. it was never that great. brian: we were never perfect but we were always great with a responsibility to protect others who want freedom and liberty for themselves. we have no choice but to lead. it's good versus evil. you probably heard of the phrase, if not me, then who? today's phrase should be if not us, then who. the forthcoming back the war of the west, douglas murray. do you agree with what i said? >> absolutely. i am so glad you said it, brian. there is a growing tendency on the left and the political side, they are using the same talking points the left used to make. it used to be we had the left celebrating traitors. now we have the right celebrating them. now, you hear people on the right saying the same thing. so this is a growing trend, and we have to confront that. i'm so pleased you addressed it. too many people are falling into this pattern of saying america isn't that great, wasn't that great, did something bad then therefore we have no right to tact now. that's flat out wrong. it would be to america's detriment and america's detriment if we took that view. brian: we can't wrap our heads around an army bombing a building full of children. am i joe stating saying that the world we'll have if we retreat from it? >> the clip you just played from shanghai chills you to the bone. millions of people screaming from their windows. >> everyone knows what the american century looked like. the american century included the bloody wars across the globe, and america stepped in twice to make them less bloody than they would have been. if america had not stepped in we would have had farb bism across the globe and communism across the globe. there are so many people who criticize and hate and beat up on the american century. if they dislike the american century, wait until they see the chinese communist party century, or the putin century. the ccp century, you wouldn't get to complain about human rights abuses. nobody would care. that's the ccp's world. people in america of all political stripes have to recognize what we have had is great luck. brian: a lot of people at home who watch our channel say not my problem. we have great problems in america. >> i understand it. we have homelessness, rising gas prices. but since when was america not able to walk and chew gum at the same time. since when was america only able to do one thing. some people say you think you can defend ukraine's border, what about america's border? how about doing both. how about having a domestic policy and foreign policy. brian: we make a mistake, we have investigations if we ever hit a hospital. we went into vietnam to stop the spread an oppressive government. our intent is not to dominate. it's to give people the ability to have a decent life. even in afghanistan. the execution wasn't perfect, chaict up to poor planning we learned from. >> under colin powell he said america sent her sons across the globe, they gave their blood. the on thing this country ever asked in return in terms of land was the land to bury her dead. tell me one other empire in history, one other power that's beened the case with. only in america. brian: we move ahead. why nato expanding is putin's worst nightmare. former secretary of state mike pompeo joins "one nation" next. we'll analyze the minds of a [♪♪] if you have diabetes, it's important to have confidence in the nutritional drink you choose. try boost glucose control®. it's clinically shown to help manage blood sugar levels and contains high quality protein to help manage hunger and support muscle health. try boost® today. allergies don't have to be scary. spraying flonase daily stops your body from overreacting to allergens all season long. psst! psst! flonase all good. >> there are different perspectives to apply nato membership. we'll have those discussions in the coming weeks. but i think our process will be quite fast. we are having the discussions with the swedish parliament. and we have a dialogue within my party. and i take this serious situation very seriously, then we'll make the decision. brian: finland and sweden joining nato. that was the point of the ukrainian war. putin doesn't want them to join nato because it would dwindle moscow's influence with their neighbors. why is he so aggravated it's expanding. here is a quick lift lesson. the scene at the end of world war ii devastating. at least 35 million killed, many at the hands of hitler. refugee cams, rationing, millions of homeless. shortly after, joseph stalin started taking over eastern europe. he feared the west would come in and attack from the east. so he turned it into a buffer joan. the west was focused on security which led to the founding of nato. there were four founding members. more countries would join over the year. when west germany joined, they formed the warsaw pact to answer. it put europe on edge. symbolized about it were lingual. nato adopted a massive retaliation doctrine warning they would respond with an all-out nuclear war if attacked. nato would conduct several missions and operations over the years. including entering afghanistan after 9/11 and invoking for the first time in history article 5. allies agreed an attack against one was an attack against all. the new slimmed down russia after the fall of the soviet union, nato expanded closer to their border. former warsaw pacts were given admission. the question now, will vladimir putin be the first russian leader to attack a nato nation. if so, the world will see how this 30-nation alliance shifts from defensive to offensive force. it's a bet he might be willing to take. putin's worst nightmare come to fruition. nato is still here and it's muscled up and motivated. what is vladimir putin worried about? what will he do. let's ask former secretary of state mike pompeo. what about the new news that's happened. it looks like come june sweden and finland will ask for admission. should we say welcome? >> we certainly should. it's the case vladimir putin can see nato is real, it's serious. it doesn't present an offensive threat to him. his claim that it presents risk to the russian people is silliness. sweden presents no risk to the russian people. i think they can see being in the mushy middle as ukraine was where it wasn't clear if the guarantees that were made in the budapest memorandum, if they would be real or not. my last thought is, it's great to see nato waking up. i pray these european countries get real religion and it's not just for moment. they are committed to spending 2% of their gdp and that's not enough. germans, france and all the others need to get to their commitments as well. brian: and get off russian gas. do you think they will have a different focus after the carnage we are seeing and what the russians are capable of and not capable of? >> i hope so. their political leaders have failed them. your point about energy is precisely right. we warned them in 2017 that building that pipeline and depending on russian gags would come back to haunt them and it has. i am hoping after this moment passions that they will go back and decide it's not worth it. we'll count on america to come in. they made promises to their fellow nato member states. i fear when this moment passes they will go back to where they have been the past 25 years. brian: they are living through this now, they are seeing innocent people being killed and tortured. my hope is they won't go back it to, their people won't let them. you said this about our main threat along with russia. >> the partner in russia's aggression, xi jinping is our greatest challenge cia has ever faced. brian: do you agree, more profound than the soviet union in the 60s and 70s. >> absolutely. i'm heartened to hear the director say that. xi is watching this. my guess is not only is he a silent partner with russia. and if we provide the ukrainians with the armaments they need. xi will be supporting russia. it may be that xi jinping made his bed and he can't let putin fail and won't. brian: do you think china is likely to attack taiwan? >> i don't think this changes xi's intentions. i will want to delay and make sure his generals weren't flying him. his words to he unify taiwan aren't going to change. he may wait just a little bit. but we should not forget for one moment. the chinese communist party presents the greatest single the external threat to the united states of america. he made the commitment that he will reunify his nation by drawing taiwan back in. he won't walk away from that because putin had a difficult time securing kyiv. brian: i believe we should do it with uniformed soldiers. how do you feel about that? >> we should arm them to the teeth and the moment is upon us. hard to get mig 29s in after the war started. the same way it would be difficult to create armament shipments and resupply routes once xi has already taken action. during the trump administration i signed off on the sale of f-1s and anti-air craft equipment. we should make the clear that our allies in the region and south korea, australia, that they are doing it as well. this has to be a collective effort. xi's intentions are far bigger than just taiwan. we need to make sure all the liberal democracies are prepared to defend their own sovereignty as well. brian: you have your family at easter and you gave some quality time. we appreciate. straight ahead, let's talk about doors and cents. inflation is a 40-year high. larry kudlow helped ronald reagan to do just that. reagan to do just that. he's here with a solution if you have type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure you're a target for chronic kidney disease. you can already have it and not know it. if you have chronic kidney disease your kidney health could depend on what you do today. ♪far-xi-ga♪ farxiga is a pill that works in the kidneys to help slow the progression of chronic kidney disease. farxiga can cause serious side effects including dehydration, urinary tract or genital yeast infections in women and men, and low blood sugar. ketoacidosis is a serious side effect that may lead to death. a rare, life-threatening bacterial infection in the skin of the perineum could occur. stop taking farxiga and call your doctor right away if you have symptoms of this bacterial infection, an allergic reaction, or ketoacidosis. and don't take it if you are on dialysis. take aim at chronic kidney disease by talking to your doctor and asking about farxiga. if you can't afford your medication, astrazeneca may be able to help. ♪far-xi-ga♪ better hearing leads to a better life. to help. and that better life... ...starts at miracle-ear. it all begins with the most innovative technology... ...like the new miracle-earmini™. available exclusively at miracle-ear. so small, no one will see it. but you'll notice the difference. and now, miracle-ear is offering a 30-day risk-free trial. you can experience better hearing with no obligation. call 1-800-miracle right now and experience a better life. >> welcome to fox news live i'm ashley strohmier in new york, russian forces have resumed attacks on ukraine capitol city of kyiv and other western parts of the country even with a new focus on the eastern country region air strikes show russia is a threat to the entire country of ukraine. russia is threaten to set up mussel strikes and targeting strikes and ukrainian parlings are reporting more than 900 civilian bodies have been found throughout the kyiv region in the past few weeks. and chaos in south carolina comes after gun fire erupted inside of a crowded shopping mall at least 12 people were hurt two in critical condition when gunshots rang out at the columbia cen this afternoon and no fatality reported and three people are in custody and what they believe is not a random attack. i'm ashley strohmier now back to one nation. ukraine. i'm jon scott. >> inflation was 12%. sales were off. plants were shut down, thousands were being laid off every week and it was threatening millions of families. >> we can't go on consuming 40% more energy than we produce. when we import oil, we are also importing inflation, plus unemployment. >> here is a quarter, a dime and a penny. 3 cents. -- 36 cents. that's what this 1960 dollar is worth today. brian: our economy looked permanently ham rung. when ronald reagan took over interest rates were -- were 20%. but his administration got interest rates down to 10. larry kudlow served as associate director for economics and planning at the office of budget during the time ronald reagan was president. when he left inflation was 1%, interest rates were zero% when he left the trump administration. larry, how did you enjoy that trip down memory/inflation lane? >> the only guy there who made any sense was reagan. because he understood that inflation sma rinks the value of your money. what's in your wallets and pocketbooks. that's the definition of inflation. you lose purchasing power. you can't buy anything, what you thought you could buy a week ago, a month ago, a year ago. reagan understood that. that's why he was such a superb president. brian: can we learn by going back to the 1980s, how to solve this problem? >> the answer is yes. reagan did a couple things when he came into office. number one he told the fed chairman, paul volcker. once upon a time i worked for volcker as his secretary in new york. he told voark, pull back on the money supply, increase the value of the dollar. let me handle the politics. you get the inflation rate down. pull back on money supply, improve the value of the dollar. that was the key point. the burden of proof will be on the federal reserve. reagan cut tax rates. he lowered marginal tax rates across the board for businesses, for individuals, for capital gain. it didn't take effect for a while. but when it did, it increased the supply side of the economy. more people producing, more people working. think about this for a minute. if one definition of inflation is too much money chasing too few goods, he had volcker curb the money supply, but reagan increased the supply of goods. so that was anti-inflationary. those tax cuts created a 3 decade long prosperity. the final point, reagan deregulated and decontrolled the price of oil. reagan took out the price controls that were left over from nixon, ford and carter during the 70s. i remember james s lerks ssen ever. he said if you decontrol oil it will go to a hundred. i said it may go to a hundred, but it will go to 10 first. and guess what, the economy was booming. that was the reagan supply side free market prescription. it took a while, but he conquered inflation and started a three decade long boom. brian: reagan had substance and a lot of smart people around him, like a younger larry kudlow. who helped a guy named donald trump. can the taliban ever be trusted. shannon bream came all the way to new york for a "news duel" with me. hope she is nice. borders. here is a quote from george washington's farewell address saying it's our duty to be a member of peace. but in the 20th century things changed, even if we didn't want them to. we got dragged into world war ii. that was our first exit from isolationism. we were involved in the war. after the war america returned to its isolation roots, and because we did, fascism was able to take over. freedom for the world was at stake, ban only great britain stood between liberty and greater oh bretion. millions were killed. we paused, but hopeful isolation only delayed our sacrifice as japan hit pearl harbor and they declared war on us. america made sure the good guys won and freedom and liberty would once again thrive in the west. the sole heavyweight opponent was the soviet union and their communism. and 40 years later we won that war, too, the cold war. now it looks like we are going to relinquish the crown. it began with obama's apology tour. >> in america there is a failure to appreciate europe's leading role in the world. brian: that went over well with china. >> they were barbaric, they had bitten all over my body. brian: it's still happening now. listen. as for russia. their barbarity is beyond comprehension. >> my son was wounded. two bullets went through his body. >> i told the one who raped me i am old enough to be your mother. he made me shut up. >> my children are dying. i could only take my daughter with me. brian: if we learned anything from our past, we should know avoiding conflict only delays conflict. if we don't confront things on our terms, it will be on our enemies' terms. america has global responsibility that comes with being a great nation. >> we are not going to make america great again. it was never that great. brian: we were never perfect but we were always great with a responsibility to protect others who want freedom and liberty for themselves. we have no choice but to lead. it's good versus evil. you probably heard of the phrase, if not me, then who? today's phrase should be if not us, then who. the forthcoming back the war of the west, douglas murray. do you agree with what i said? >> absolutely. i am so glad you said it, brian. there is a growing tendency on the left and the political side, they are using the same talking points the left used to make. it used to be we had the left celebrating traitors. now we have the right celebrating them. now, you hear people on the right saying the same thing. so this is a growing trend, and we have to confront that. i'm so pleased you addressed it. too many people are falling into this pattern of saying america isn't that great, wasn't that great, did something bad then therefore we have no right to tact now. that's flat out wrong. it would be to america's detriment and america's detriment if we took that view. brian: we can't wrap our heads around an army bombing a building full of children. am i joe stating saying that the world we'll have if we retreat from it? >> the clip you just played from shanghai chills you to the bone. millions of people screaming from their windows. >> everyone knows what the american century looked like. the american century included the bloody wars across the globe, and america stepped in twice to make them less bloody than they would have been. if america had not stepped in we would have had farb bism across the globe and communism across the globe. there are so many people who criticize and hate and beat up on the american century. if they dislike the american century, wait until they see the chinese communist party century, or the putin century. the ccp century, you wouldn't get to complain about human rights abuses. nobody would care. that's the ccp's world. people in america of all political stripes have to recognize what we have had is great luck. brian: a lot of people at home who watch our channel say not my problem. we have great problems in america. >> i understand it. we have homelessness, rising gas prices. but since when was america not able to walk and chew gum at the same time. since when was america only able to do one thing. some people say you think you can defend ukraine's border, what about america's border? how about doing both. how about having a domestic policy and foreign policy. brian: we make a mistake, we have investigations if we ever hit a hospital. we went into vietnam to stop the spread an oppressive government. our intent is not to dominate. it's to give people the ability to have a decent life. even in afghanistan. the execution wasn't perfect, chaict up to poor planning we learned from. >> under colin powell he said america sent her sons across the globe, they gave their blood. the on thing this country ever asked in return in terms of land was the land to bury her dead. tell me one other empire in history, one other power that's beened the case with. only in america. brian: we move ahead. why nato expanding is putin's worst nightmare. former secretary of state mike pompeo joins "one nation" next. we'll analyze the minds of a [♪♪] if you have diabetes, it's important to have confidence in the nutritional drink you choose. try boost glucose control®. it's clinically shown to help manage blood sugar levels and contains high quality protein to help manage hunger and support muscle health. try boost® today. allergies don't have to be scary. spraying flonase daily stops your body from overreacting to allergens all season long. psst! psst! flonase all good. >> there are different perspectives to apply nato membership. we'll have those discussions in the coming weeks. but i think our process will be quite fast. we are having the discussions with the swedish parliament. and we have a dialogue within my party. and i take this serious situation very seriously, then we'll make the decision. brian: finland and sweden joining nato. that was the point of the ukrainian war. putin doesn't want them to join nato because it would dwindle moscow's influence with their neighbors. why is he so aggravated it's expanding. here is a quick lift lesson. the scene at the end of world war ii devastating. at least 35 million killed, many at the hands of hitler. refugee cams, rationing, millions of homeless. shortly after, joseph stalin started taking over eastern europe. he feared the west would come in and attack from the east. so he turned it into a buffer joan. the west was focused on security which led to the founding of nato. there were four founding members. more countries would join over the year. when west germany joined, they formed the warsaw pact to answer. it put europe on edge. symbolized about it were lingual. nato adopted a massive retaliation doctrine warning they would respond with an all-out nuclear war if attacked. nato would conduct several missions and operations over the years. including entering afghanistan after 9/11 and invoking for the first time in history article 5. allies agreed an attack against one was an attack against all. the new slimmed down russia after the fall of the soviet union, nato expanded closer to their border. former warsaw pacts were given admission. the question now, will vladimir putin be the first russian leader to attack a nato nation. if so, the world will see how this 30-nation alliance shifts from defensive to offensive force. it's a bet he might be willing to take. putin's worst nightmare come to fruition. nato is still here and it's muscled up and motivated. what is vladimir putin worried about? what will he do. let's ask former secretary of state mike pompeo. what about the new news that's happened. it looks like come june sweden and finland will ask for admission. should we say welcome? >> we certainly should. it's the case vladimir putin can see nato is real, it's serious. it doesn't present an offensive threat to him. his claim that it presents risk to the russian people is silliness. sweden presents no risk to the russian people. i think they can see being in the mushy middle as ukraine was where it wasn't clear if the guarantees that were made in the budapest memorandum, if they would be real or not. my last thought is, it's great to see nato waking up. i pray these european countries get real religion and it's not just for moment. they are committed to spending 2% of their gdp and that's not enough. germans, france and all the others need to get to their commitments as well. brian: and get off russian gas. do you think they will have a different focus after the carnage we are seeing and what the russians are capable of and not capable of? >> i hope so. their political leaders have failed them. your point about energy is precisely right. we warned them in 2017 that building that pipeline and depending on russian gags would come back to haunt them and it has. i am hoping after this moment passions that they will go back and decide it's not worth it. we'll count on america to come in. they made promises to their fellow nato member states. i fear when this moment passes they will go back to where they have been the past 25 years. brian: they are living through this now, they are seeing innocent people being killed and tortured. my hope is they won't go back it to, their people won't let them. you said this about our main threat along with russia. >> the partner in russia's aggression, xi jinping is our greatest challenge cia has ever faced. brian: do you agree, more profound than the soviet union in the 60s and 70s. >> absolutely. i'm heartened to hear the director say that. xi is watching this. my guess is not only is he a silent partner with russia. and if we provide the ukrainians with the armaments they need. xi will be supporting russia. it may be that xi jinping made his bed and he can't let putin fail and won't. brian: do you think china is likely to attack taiwan? >> i don't think this changes xi's intentions. i will want to delay and make sure his generals weren't flying him. his words to he unify taiwan aren't going to change. he may wait just a little bit. but we should not forget for one moment. the chinese communist party presents the greatest single the external threat to the united states of america. he made the commitment that he will reunify his nation by drawing taiwan back in. he won't walk away from that because putin had a difficult time securing kyiv. brian: i believe we should do it with uniformed soldiers. how do you feel about that? >> we should arm them to the teeth and the moment is upon us. hard to get mig 29s in after the war started. the same way it would be difficult to create armament shipments and resupply routes once xi has already taken action. during the trump administration i signed off on the sale of f-1s and anti-air craft equipment. we should make the clear that our allies in the region and south korea, australia, that they are doing it as well. this has to be a collective effort. xi's intentions are far bigger than just taiwan. we need to make sure all the liberal democracies are prepared to defend their own sovereignty as well. brian: you have your family at easter and you gave some quality time. we appreciate. straight ahead, let's talk about doors and cents. inflation is a 40-year high. larry kudlow helped ronald reagan to do just that. reagan to do just that. he's here with a solution if you have type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure you're a target for chronic kidney disease. you can already have it and not know it. if you have chronic kidney disease your kidney health could depend on what you do today.
