state department spokeswoman morgan ortagus and in the center seat, entrepreneur and author of "woke inc.," the vic ramaswamy. now a gunman burst and during shabbat services and took a rabbi and other parishioners hostage all while demanding the release of a convicted terrorist with a history of anti-semitism. all the hostages made it out unharmed. here's how the fbi described in incident. >> we believe that he was single he focused on one issue and it was not specifically related to the jewish community but we will continue to work and find motive. >> emily: at the fbi was on roundly criticized for downplaying anti-semitism is the motive. then hours later it reversed course saying this is a terrorism related matter in which the jewish community was targeted and it's being investigated by the joint terrorism task force. but the president still only highlighted the terror angle of the attack. >> president biden: this is an act of terror. the attorney general's focused on making sure that we deal with these kinds of acts and, thank god we have such professional fbi. >> emily: morgan, as the jerusalem post pointed out, the idea that any attack on a is synagogue is not specifically related to the jewish community is patently absurd and they asked, what more has to happen, what does it take for that to be viewed as specifically related to the jewish community? >> morgan: the statements that first came out after we all learned about the hostage situation, and thank god that it was cleared up and the people on the ground did their job. but the statements are just incredibly tone-deaf especially at a time when we have rising anti-semitism around of the world, but in our own country as well. in fact, i think many people know that my family and i are jewish and when we go to temple on saturdays here in nashville there's always these amazing cops standing at the front and i think them. i'm not relieved to have them. plenty of churches around the country need to have production as well sadly because of attacks and i think it's just a devastating place where we are in our country where we have to have police at our centers of worship in order to protect us. but what's more important is the administration not look for political correctness in this situation. there was a terrorist who came over and targeted the synagogue. the administration was worried about. what they were trying to cover for but with this day and age with the rising run the country, we need to call terrorism for exactly what it is and then deal with the situation. >> emily: kayleigh, two morgans point, we may not understand with the motive or intent behind the administration's refusal to label this what it was but we know exactly what's been taking their attention. critics argue that the entire administration has been focused solely on labeling trump supporter's, domestic enemies and white supremacist when they should be focusing on actual extremist terrorists, like this one, kayleigh. >> kayleigh: that's exactly right. what an incredible statement from the fbi to say, "this is not specifically related to the jewish community." that's a declarative statement and the immediate aftermath to make that kind of declarative statement is really shocking. also from the white house at 6:00 p.m., we get a statement from the white house referring to the hostage situation with no mention of a synagogue, no mention of a rabbi being held up. i understand and appreciate being careful as facts are unfolding in the situation. that's totally fair. but at 6:00 p.m. when apparently this whole standoff began at around 10:40 a.m., this is nearly seven hours later and there's no thought of putting in their the word is synagogue or rabbi or any detail, it's really pretty shopping and i think kind of dovetails and with that fbi statement. when you contrast that to your point exactly, miranda devine did a great column at "the new york post." when you contrast how quick democrats are to label their political opponents and domestic enemies, nancy pelosi and august of 2020 called g.o.p. lawmakers and a trump "enemies of the state. kyle rittenhouse was put in there and they were talking about white supremacy before the trial even began. and then just this week president biden referring to those who oppose federal rising elections, the federal takeover elections, segregation. think how quick they are to this terminology with their political opponents and how it took many hours to have any sort of strong words about terrorism from the white house. >> emily: right. vivek, the criticism as we fbi leadership on the enemies of democratic party rather than the leadership of the united states. >> vivek: the fbi has decided white nationalism is the that they need to focus on but the facts don't fit the narrative. and while keisha near christmas there was a black man who posted a lot of antiwhite racially hate hate content that is an suv to kill six people and injured many in a christmas parade. you don't hear about that anymore. talking about the capital, to my knowledge the only u.s. capitol police officer that was killed by an act of terrorism at the capital was killed not on january 6 at the capital but was killed in april of last year by noah green, a committed follower of the nation of islam and you don't hear that anymore. i think all of this is just a symptom of a deeper cancer. i don't even focus for most on the biden administration, i focus on the administration of the fbi. this is an organization that has persisted after eight cancerous rot. and keep in mind president trump was it was not able to attain disorganization, either. they didn't vet many of his -- i'm not in support of defunding the local place but i could get behind defending the fbi. i think this is an organization that epitomizes with the deep state is all about and they decide what political agenda they will oppress. it's actually threatening and undermining the security of our country and the trust and the people who were charged with the security of our country rather than actually protecting it, which is what they are there to do. that's why i think it's so important to call out and i think it actually needs to be at the top of the agenda for the person who runs for president next from the republican party, the democratic party should be concerned about it too. but this is a top issue about the fbi. >> harris: let me jump in on that one second. >> emily: really quickly just to underscore the chasm between rank-and-file and fbi's come up with leadership making these decisions versus those who are carrying out their orders and put in your lives on the line and protecting will come to morgan's point, worshipers and americans throughout the whole country. >> harris: vivek, one thing i would say and add to that list where the fbi has been inserted by the doj and maybe the white house and that national school board association is the movement against dissenting parents and the conversations that we will have that might be difficult conversations of school board meetings. i mean when you mix all of that up together, do we need to take a look at how the fbi performs its duties in america, and it's a real role? i don't think that what you are saying is anything more than an investigation into the federal bureau of investigation and how it actually investigates. but in terms of what you're saying, the rank and file versus those at a higher and more federal level, we are always closest to the people are closest to us. in your community you will are going to know your local cops, and i suggest in this crime environment in new york city, i look across the river in jersey, and crime is everywhere in urban areas. certainly, we have more in newark but get to know your cops because they stand watch. they stand on the wall when others don't volunteer to do that and an environment where hate is hurled at them. it's a different relationship that we have with police officers around us and i would hope that people would have the intestinal fortitude and the smarts to go out and it do that no matter what their politics are. this whole idea about where the fbi lives in our lives, kayleigh, you were part of the administration that took a look at how that worked out, is it worth looking deeper? or is that so offensive that liberals may never do it? >> kayleigh: it is worth looking into, you think about the attack on fort hood and the way the fbi came out and called it workplace violence. here is really question a reaction from the fbi to some of these terrorist attacks that we see and when you couple that with the way the former candidate and president donald trump was treated on the russia issue, there's a whole host of questions why this narrative was peddled for a very long time and the president being briefed on it before he took office. they called it an offensive intelligence brief, i forget the exact term but the way it was used to play into the narrative. it needs to be looked at. we continue to see these red flags and we ask questions. >> emily: it's actually perfect that you brought that up because that's my last question i was reserving for you, vivek. contrast and compare this current situation with the 2009 fort hood terror attacks that was used and twisted and called into a workplace violence argument that really rocked this and turned it into a scandal, and frankly obama has never forgiven thee of administration for twisting it as such. >> vivek: there is evidence of who is pulling the strings here and that's more of a hard-line position on this for all of you, and we shut down the fbi and replace it with something else altogether. when we have in our organization whose roots run that deep it's not going to be changed or incremental reform. i do think we need more incremental transparency, i'm no conspiracy theorist but think it's shameful that we still don't have clear answers from the federal government and the fbi as to how many fbi agents were present at the capitol on january 6th. the public needs to have its trust restored and that requires transparency, but that may require even more drastic measures taken by the right person in the white house to say that i actually sometimes when an institution has outlived its purpose we need to create a new one to take its place. i think we are at that moment to have a conversation about the fbi today, and i think that will take its place. and the idea is that community activist in their and social workers, not that there's not room for some extra voices but, that's what we need to do. and are we ready to take those steps? you ask a lot of great questions. >> vivek: let's have a conversation. thank you, yeah. >> emily: and i think the questions americans have for that fbi leadership, those of the topics that eclipse that amazing work. in the realm of sex trafficking and child kidnapping and traffic agents like eddie fryer who have made history and done so much good, globally, truly, from their work with the fbi. but situations like this, it just sort of takes over and it unfortunately dilutes the face of the american public has in the leadership of the time. coming up, the president got slammed
