said no federal solution and as president he is telling states, they are on their own. >> i have to admit, i almost fell off of santa's sleigh when i heard that language. president biden should tell his own administration he doesn't think there is a federal solution. the first thing he should do is tell osha to pull back its vaccine mandate claiming it has a right to tell basically every employee in every factory and office in the country that they have to get a vaccine. the second thing drop the supreme court case is an administration going to the high court next week to defend the vaccine mandate. >> mike: from "vanity fair" at the biden administration rejected october proposal for free rapid test for the holidays. we heard pushback from the white house. they write "critics say the biden administration slow to act on testing because of vaccination with the best pathway out of the pandemic." the center of disease control assured americans early december once vaccinated they could shed their mask and forgo testing. the declarations proved untrue as breakthrough infections have risen. doctor, what about the testing? >> immediately when omicron became news from south africa, the administration got bad medical advice. they immediately reach for the one hammer they know which is additional vaccine doses, and they did not prepare for additional testing needs and for therapeutic spirit so here we are in a situation where we know the role of the federal government is best in prepurchasing, tests and medications on both of those accounts, we are significantly behind schedule. the contract was signed for signature about six weeks after the omicron variant had developed. >> mike: from "the wall street journal," the physical signs of lockdowns and what cause scientific community to have been in their version of lockdowns? the empirical evidence did not change but the lockdown originated from the same sources w.h.o. had heavily deprecated in its report, speculative and tested epidemiological models, john. why do we lockdown? >> i think when we look back at the history of the pandemic we will see the small number of officials and the national government made a series of deep mistakes. this nationwide lockdown recommended by washington that almost every government in the state was untested and prove to be a disaster because it didn't take a look at what is a reasonable balance between restrict of the virus without shutting down the economy, hurting kids by not letting them go to school and social and criminal justice issues. >> from "newsweek" researchers offer this prediction an optimistic scenario by researchers predict the omicron search would peak january 18th only if the new variant far less evasive as the delta variant, dr. mccreary, how do you see it? >> well i'm i think that is accurate. we will see a peak in the first or second week of january but the thing is just because omicron partially evades immune protection, which it does, partially antibodies but not the memory details that give you that protection against severe disease. we see high numbers of all micron cases and low numbers of hospitalizations for omicrons in parts of the world with high rates of particular variant. that should be a signal to us this is equivalent of a bad flu season and respiratory where most people will get in the community but it does not result in severe illness for the majority of people. >> mike: here is the vice president and the vice president on preparation. >> of the health care system prepare for what is coming? >> we are prepared for it. and no question. >> one of the problems is that will not be totally available to everyone until we get to january and there are still some issues now of people having trouble getting tested. we are addressing the testing problem very soon that will be corrected. >> mike: john, how do you assess it? >> let's trust the governors here let's trust the states to make these decisions. i worry when a vice president or dr. fauci think they can solve the problem or claim they are the science. let's go through decentralized solution and all the governments in the state to make a choice what is best for their communities given the science we have. >> mike: dr. mcgarry final thought where we are with covid? >> well when the current democrat appointed positions came into power and public health they immediately said there was no plan to deal with covid in the prior administration. i think they are recognizing government does not work well and these problems are intrinsic. they should not have politicize the covert response. i think people in the public are hungry for humility and honesty from the public health officials on things i got wrong. >> mike: dr. makary, john, many
