the ben ferguson podcast, ben ferguson, our guy in the middle today. the gaslighting of america just hit maybe a new level, at least axios has reporting, on a year-end recap from the white house that reads it, in spite of unprecedented crises and opposition from congressional republicans, president biden, vice president, harris and congressional democrats got an enormous amount done for the american people in 2021. so the two page memo did mentioned crises but failed to include inflation as one of them at even though it's the highest in decades, they left it and while it touted the covid vaccination program it left out the surge in caseload because of the omicron variant which has led to hours long waits at testing sites across america. it also completely ignored the crisis now unfolding at our southwest border. where apprehensions of illegal migrants, illegal immigrants are breaking records month after month. warwick gas prices which are much higher now than they were a year ago. there is some argument in the last couple of weeks that they've gone back down, there is argument from the science side because the surge is putting a damper on people's plans as they try to figure out what they will need to do. and as far as the supply chain crisis, the memo claimed the white house eliminated how mike alleviated the container ship backlog but the supply chain issues are not all solved. he is biden touting his administration's efforts. >> president biden: earlier this fall we heard a lot of dire warnings about supply chain problems leading to crises around the holidays so we acted, the much predicted crisis didn't occur. the big one ben ferguson. so if everything is actually already solved with supply chain, let's just start there. i mean we could jump in anywhere. why is the supply chain working out the crisis with the supply chain today? >> ben: i guess so maybe they can give each other virtual hugs with their covert protocols and that was fix everything in this country. you have a real problem, jimmy carter had better ratings of the worst part of his presidency when it dealt with the economy then joe biden does right now. and for them to put out -- and this is not anything but propaganda for the holidays, to imply that you are better off now than you were before he became president a year ago is absolute absurdity. look at inflation. if you had made 50,000 last year, which are buying power this year, about 45,000. if you're trying to book a plane ticket to go home for the holidays you're paying more now than you were a year ago but it's not just that. you look at what's done with just the shutdowns, the lockdowns, the taking away of people's rights, now saying you have to have pet vaccine passports and ask yourself this. if you are an american, whether it's in america or overseas, are you better off now than you were a year ago? i would ask the americans starting -- the answer is no when he's not fooling anybody. >> harris: lauren? >> lauren: i think it's out of touch and quite frankly i think it's insulting. because what i see from other people, and what i feel personally right now around christmas time, a few days away, i don't know if family can get a test so they can see friends and family for christmas and, if they can do they have an item that they can actually deliver under the tree and give to someone or, is it an iou for the gifts that you are going to get some time, i don't know, whatever the supply chain is fixed. when you look at the recent home link, it feels like deja vu. gallup lowest economic confidence from april of 2020. politico and warning consult, 42% say that biden administration produce less than expected so far. so it's depressing. but you know what? i think america sees through this and i think we will just kind of go it alone if you will. we got a consumer confidence report and looking forward this report found that six months in the future, people say we are done with this. we are going back on vacation and we are making plans, we had enough. >> harris: i'm surprised it will take them that long. i mean, seriously. after the president said if you are vaccinated and you take all the steps it a through d, don't change your holiday plans. i'm not sure that's consistent with what the scientists are saying. look. leslie, you and i say this whenever you are in focus and whatever we see each other. it's confusing and we get that, it's a fluid situation. >> leslie: leadership is supposed to end at donald trump did this and every democrat or republican has won this difficult time the country. it supposed to provide hope and optimism so that americans don't feel despondent. you see this every time there's something bad to come up they don't step up there and say it's a doom and gloom in the world is coming to an end and that's not the reality. so let me as a pessimist who loves to look at the glass half empty provide a few half poked full points. not only what we have repairs to our grid and roads and bridges but so many jobs that will be created. we have a lower unemployment rate, we have the only g7 country in the world that showed an uptick and wall street has been doing well because the feds say they are going to get really aggressive to lower -- increase interest rates and get inflation behind us. americans right now i understand are upset and by the way, every christmas present i bought for my family members and friends is being delivered on time. thank you jeff bezos and amazon, except one. it is warranted how she feels and that is very much how the american people feel and i do think how american people feel will be portrayed it differently not just in the polls but will be hearing differently in a few months. >> kayleigh: i love you but in all due respect, it feels like putting lipstick on a pig. we talk about the unemployment rate and we are still far behind where we were prepandemic. so the jobs that are heading back, i looked at this list of accomplishments and it was really thin, only two pages. he is touting vaccines, thank you president trump for that an operation warp speed accompanies touting the american rescue plan which was supposed to have money for testing and therapeutics, where is the testing and where is the therapeutics? i'd never got on top of that. you compare that to trump, i saw the headline, trump's first year compiled in shockingly long lists. from neil gorsuch to isis being on the run to the regulation and a booming economy, you just simply can't compare these two presidencies and not see one as being very positive and one as being honestly in a tailspin downward and the victims of the biden presidency are the american people. >> harris: kayleigh, let's stay with you for just a second. the president yesterday for a of times gave credit and thank the prior administration and then president trump came out with his statement and he talked directly to our reporters at fox news and said that tone is important. when you are telling people what they need to do in terms of staying safe. and i'm paraphrasing him a bit. he thanked president biden for recognizing his contribution. i guess we should be grateful that it only took 12 months but, my goodness gracious, the numbers of people who have died now from covid, why didn't he think of this before? he might have needed president trump help. this before he did think of this before but i think biden made a choice to put politics above all and put on the mic at donald trump about something. but giving him credit 12 months too late, i'm glad he did it because the way you get the unvaccinated to become vaccinated is not to yell at them as he did over the summer with a mandate saying you will pay the price and the vaccinated have a right to be mad at the unvaccinated, that's not how you do it. they will not be persuaded by that. but giving credit to the last administration, president trump was overseeing them and it was his administration, maybe you should trust it. this is in a partisan vaccine. i think it would have gone a long way. >> ben: just a couple days ago this white house basically gave the unvaccinated a death wish. and said from the white house you will have doom and gloom because you won't comply with what we are demanding of you and you deserve basically what you get which will be death, a high number of people in hospitals and a lot of funerals. and i'm sorry when you speak to the american people this way they are not going to respond and listen to anything else you or dr. fauci ever says. >> harris: that's so true. really if the hospitals are filling up that affects everybody. if you need cancer treatment it affects everybody. you have to help everybody. the blame game as we were talking about is in full swing right now and i just mention the president pointing fingers at everybody and everything except for his own policy. veteran homeowners- you made a smart move when you bought your home. now make another one and turn your equity into cash. with the newday 100 va loan you can take out up to $60,000 or more. veteran homeowners- with home values at all-time highs and rates at near all-time lows now's the time to do more with your home equity. veterans are calling newday at a record pace to take advantage of the newday 100 va loan. you can borrow up to 100% of your home's value to upgrade the kitchen, add a pool for the grandkids, or have the security of cash in the bank. with an average cash out amount of $60,000, you can do more. >> president biden: you might think it's putting only yourself at risk, but it's your choice. your choice is not just a choice about you, it affects other people. you are putting other people at risk. >> leslie: hour so the president is blaming the unvaccinated for the surgeon covid cases because of the omicron cases but the finger-pointing doesn't end there. speak to the unvaccinated are responsible for their own choices but those choices have been shown by dangerous misinformation on cable-tv and social media. these companies and personalities are making money by peddling lies and allowing misinformation that can kill their own customers and their own supporters. it's wrong. it's immoral. i called the purveyors of these lies and misinformation to stop it, stop it now. >> kayleigh: even though the medical community has been warning about variance since the pandemic began, and the white house got it heads up about the dangers of omicron weeks ago, the president doesn't seem to be taking any responsibly for the current covid search. >> president biden: because covid is spreading so rapidly if you notice, it just happened almost overnight. >> what's your message to americans that are trying to get tested now and are not able to get tested and i are wondering what took so long to ramp up testing? >> president biden: come on, what took so long? what happened was the omicron virus spread more rapidly than anyone thought. >> kayleigh: interesting. lauren, she's asking about testing. i mentioned to you that the administration, unlike the trump administration, did not order attesting to the magnitude of 500 million as they should have early on. they didn't tell the private sector we will buy down your risk because we are going to need testing so i bit, keep producing, and abbott didn't keep producing. at the same level. i don't know why it took them 12 months to figure this out. >> lauren: let's take this a step further because everyone is talking about the covid pill from pfizer specifically, it's really effective. guess how many doses the admits ration has ordered? 10 million, that's it. we need much more than that. then there's the monoclonal from vero biotech and only 50,000 doses are on hand. we had omicron in the u.s. for 21 days and we are far behind. there's a lot of blaming going on. i don't hear a thank you, thank you to the american people for everything that you have done, how you've changed our lives. for the past two years, i don't hear that. i hear a lot of blame. >> kayleigh: and those are staggering numbers, you need far more than 10 million, you need a billion. so what way low. resident biden said he's going to shut down the virus and on the campaign trail he apparently had a secret covid plan in his basement that never really existed, he declared independence from covid on the fourth of july and yet here we are and it doesn't appear there ever was a plan. >> ben: there wasn't a plan except i'm going to use covid to be elected and the been literally asleep at the wheel ever since. for a party that loves to spend money on everything, look at his accomplishments. two spending bills that were trillions of dollars. you didn't think with all the other spending and there to actually get some substance, to say we need some rapid tests? we should get 50 million or 80 million? whatever that number is for the american people, we all knew there were variance. everyone has been warning about those variants. then he said we spread faster than we thought it was going to. well who's fault is that? is it found cheese puff fault for not telling you? you want to blame everybody else, then fine. you want to blame for ouchi, say your job or resign. i want to fire you because this is a fireball offense. if you didn't prepare the president and tell him what was needed for a possible outbreak with the new variant, you deserve to be fired from your job and yet they are still sitting here saying you are the ones americans that should cancel thanksgiving and christmas. you are the ones that should tell the unvaccinated they are not welcome in your house instead of taking any responsibility for this. >> kayleigh: to that end to come biden's own cdc director said we knew things like this could happen. not only that, but trumps former cdc director robert redfield said this in august. >> i'm going to predict that within two, three, four months we will have another variant and that marriott will be more infectious than the delta variant. >> kayleigh: so leslie, how can biden say no one saw this coming? >> leslie: scientists and medical professionals know how fluid this is and know that any virus, covid or otherwise, it mutates. but of course they don't have crystal balls. we look at how fast this omicron spread, when we look at south africa for example, and we had to cut off travel from there and the administration got great for that, i didn't blame donald trump for covid. i didn't like when he said it would be behind us and a couple of weeks, and scientists were saying that, but i don't like when any politician put the timeline on it. they don't have control over the timeline and they don't have control over the mutations or how severe those mutations will be. but there are are 71% of american people that have the vaccine and their arm. there are some people out there that believe this information that's being given. in my own industry as a talk show host, six of my peers that i may not have agreed with politically refused to get vaccinated, gave that information to their listeners and they died, they are gone. their families don't have their data, their husband, their grandfather or their friend. i think it's important that we say this information has to stop. it is for the greater good to get vaccinated and it's not necessarily about me protecting me, it's about me protecting my mom or others in my family who are immunocompromised. that was not the tone that i got from it, i think he was being really realistic. last week at donald trump was interviewed by bill o'reilly and former president trumps that he was vaccinated and got the booster and so did bill o'reilly. they got booted by their own supporters and fans. that should be political and we need to come together so we can put this behind us regardless of how many mutations in variance there are going forward. >> kayleigh: harris, let's play this clip. and i'll have you react. >> president biden: this is not about freedom for personal choice. my job as president is to protect all americans. >> harris: look. leslie threw a lot down there and leslie, you are right about a lot of it. if truth is what we are searching for then let's start with the president of the united states. we only have one at a time. let's not bring anyone else into it and let's talk about what we were told by this president and i imagine he will stick with this line of talk because i think that's true or think that will work, but it's not. we knew about that variant, omicron, at least by november 25th when the world health organization now says it notified us. previous to that, the president of south africa says the reason he doesn't understand the travel ban from the very beginning was because he had let the world know including the united states about what they were saying, about what was coming, and they are still doing that. talk about thank yous, i haven't heard this president think the president of south africa for giving us a heads up. what did they do with all that time? i don't know. but if you can't fix testing supplies, then you don't understand how this works. the lease the president could do at this point is tell us the truth about that. we weren't really sure, or i didn't listen to my scientists or whatever the truth is, because we now know about afghanistan. he didn't listen to the general company didn't listen to the scientists. but we are in a world of hurt because somebody's policy and plan wasn't good enough. we need better testing, the half-billion will nearly be enough. those pills, dr. siegel says we need 100 million of those pfizer pills. he's a bigger fan of pfizer than merck but put them both out there. those are the facts and mounts the truth. will they come from the white house? i don't know. >> kayleigh: we need a lot of hard work from the white house in partnership with the private sector but i'm not sure if we will see it. for the sake of the american people, i hope so. coming up, i woke mayor who push for funding of cops now pleading for federal help after her cities these homicides go the roof. and at the different tune she took one president trump offered to help. >> only the federal government has the resources and reach to make a bent an illegal gun trafficking across state lines. they must do more and we are ready, willing, and able to work in further ownership in this crucial work. >> harris: she waited until there was a house fire before she brought out a hose. chicago mayor lori lightfoot there pleading with the attorney general merrick garland now to send atf agents to the city for six months after chicago hit a 25 year high in a number of murders. this comes after the democrats propose flushing $80 million from the police department in 2020 during the d found the police protest and it's a 180 from a year ago when then president trump offered to help her and her city. lightfoot said back then in a highly charged letter "please stop with the rhetoric and find out the moral courage to simply support the needed actions. kayleigh mcenany? >> kayleigh: wow. she went on and criticism of the trump administration's plan to call these individuals secret federal agents and her exact words were, there is a wave of opposition in my city but now she's taking a very different tune. but hundreds and hundreds have lost their life because of the politicization of crime. in chicago, we see this everywhere. i remember one week mayor wheeler, the federal agents who went to stop the burning down of buildings on the violence that we saw here. it jim clyburn played into it, and we were routinely hearing this rhetoric from the left and unfortunately it comes in a very deadly price. >> harris: it you know last hour leslie, we talked about the 57 children who have been shot and killed in chicago this year and at my question was, what does mayor lightfoot say now to those families? i'm not saying every single life would be different but if she says this is what it's going to take to change lives going forward, maybe they could have all been saved. >> leslie: as a democrat i don't just say i support somebody because they are on my side of the aisle or party. but for people to say that she wanted to defund the police, that's not accurate. this is what she said. and i quote. she was actually by people in my own party she was chastised and criticized because she didn't want to defund of the police. she was facing out $1.2 billion pandemic induced shortfall so she did not increase the police budget and this is what she said. we are not doing that, when they said to defund the police. we have to fund both public services and we have to fond of the police. what he's asking for now for six months from the batf, bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms specifically is to assist with the gun trafficking which horse sources are saying are very problematic in the city. and now the numbers are not what they were had president trump offered to help to her at that time. >> harris: it's a look. having interviewed other mayors, the mayor of kansas city, when you don't meet where the mic between where you are and where you need to be, you are basically on funding them. what i want to know is what happened to that gap? where is that money? the second thing here is, for those people who died in crime in our city, why did she wait until the house was on fire before she brought out the hose? >> let's be very clear about this mayor. if you say she didn't defund the police she certainly dehumanize them and she turned them into the bad guys, talking about them being undercover individuals come out like they are evil people who will come into the city and brutalize the people of chicago. just for the record by the way, the same people that trump wanted to send with the same exact people holding the same exact jobs this year. so she was terrified of them when trump wanted to send them and if that's her standard she should say no to them now because they are just as scary, because they hold the same jobs. she didn't like the fact that donald trump wanted to help because it meant that she was failing. instead she said i will do what's great and write from a city and protect the children and protect the elderly, protect those who are victims of these heinous crimes and she said it, no. i put politics in front of him and i don't want the extreme left to come after me so i will allow for the idea that law enforcement is evil and bad and i will put that in front of for your safety. and now she says, okay. we screwed up without saying it, people are dying, and my hometown of memphis, tennessee, crime is out of control. robbery is out of control. i'm not really worried about crime, i'm going to put a ferris wheel as my top priority on the mississippi river so that you won't look at crime >> harris: leslie, i have to go back to you. when you hear that, what has your reaction been? it's a compelling example, and i certainly don't believe, and i would hope that any mayor or governor with her not turn away help for their people simply because of political party. we seen ron desantis support president biden, when he helped in florida. at the federal government helps in florida and we seen most recently kentucky. >> harris: why did she turn trump alone? >> i don't buy it was political. if the city was at a different point in that time and the gun trafficking-related violence was under different point at that time as well. >> harris: anyone with a quick one? >> ben: it's just not true. it's just not true, people are dying. it's just not true. if you look at the gun crimes, if you look at the violent crime, i'm a victim of a gun crime in my hometown. you look at the stats year after year and it's the same people committing the same crimes over and over again and it liberals and prosecutors letting them out because they say they are going to defund the police and we dehumanize the police. >> leslie: wait a minute, she asked anita the electronic monitoring program because she found the reset or is comic recidivism rate, they were committing crimes while they were being monitored. she's actually been more conservative and she's getting more grief than she is from conservatives. >> ben: leslie, give me one policy in her tenure as mayor that she has done to lower crime in the city of chicago. >> leslie: i just said it, she got rid of the electronic monitoring. >> ben: that didn't lower crime, it went up. the stats say that crime went up. >> leslie: that's not correct, because it just happened we don't actually know that yet. >> ben: the fbi says year-over-year violent crime in chicago has skyrocketed. the number of dead children has skyrocketed. >> harris: particularly in the category of homicide. no, you cannot. okay, while there was one crime that got lowered i suppose, jussie smollett. i am being facetious. lauren, we will catch you on the flip. a truck driver is sentenced to 110 years in current prison for a deadly crash but even the d.a. says that's too harsh. the case that's raising questions about minimum sentencing guidelines, next. ♪♪ fresh flavors... classic dishes... ♪♪ and a new seat at the table. ♪♪ (vo) nowadays, business can happen anywhere, anytime. with verizon business unlimited plans, you can get 5g, and a new seat at the table. truly unlimited data, and more hotspot data. so you can run a bakery from the blue line. ha! cupcake. or collaborate with clients from the concourse. and to get your team geared up with the good stuff, book a one-on-one tech check with a business expert. woo! visit us in store or book an appointment to save time and money. because every business deserves better. and with plans as low as $30, better costs less than you think. when i say better, you say business. better!
