continuing him to support the bill his comments or drawing outrage for many of his own party and republicans. bill cassidy is standing by to weigh in but first we have fox team coverage and how lawmakers are reacting and we begin with mark number one —- muted the moment until my —- wilmington delaware the president is spending the weekend. >> good evening aware affords raising up between the white house and a fellow democrat west virginia senator mentioned who told fox earlier today he will not be supporting the social and climate bill that are known as build back better telling fox he believes is not only too expensive but simply goes too far. >> i have always then if i cannot go home and explain it to the people of west virginia i cannot move forward and i cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation. i just can't. i have tried possible i cannot get there. >> you are done. this is a no? this is a no. >> up until this weekend the white house made it seem like it was likely they could reach a deal was senator manchin now it's hard to believe that but the gloves have come off. the white house is ready to fight him publicly in a statement released today by the press secretary jen psaki right senator manchin's comments this morning at fox are at odds with his discussions this week with the president, white house staff and his own public. just as the senator reversed his position on build back better this morning, we will continue to press to see if he will reverse his position again to honor his prior commitment to be true to his word. we have heard from my house staff but not yet from the president on camera. he held no public events today. he goes back to dc tomorrow. i imagine many reporters will shout at him to get a reaction. the administration is dealing with covid, the pandemic impacting cities and states all across the country. the president will be delivering an address on tuesday. we don't know what time talking about what the federal government can do to help those places that are struggling to keep up with what is going on. molly: as shortage of things to focus on at the white house. now the announcement results in anger on the left and the light on the right. we have more from washington on reaction. >> lawmaker reaction ranges from relief on the right to the left to still something he could be swayed and on the far left his decision is being taken as peter betrayal. >> we all knew that senator manchin cannot be traced on —- trusted. i think his excuses are - . >> once it was decoupled from the infrastructure bill aoc tweeted maybe they will believe us next time. congresswoman cori bush. >> having those coupled together was the only leverage we had. the caucus tossed it. reporter: the dispute continues that republicans are expressing that —- gratitude that the cbo determined would cost four.$5 trillion. senator graham said i very much appreciate senator manchin decision not to support build back better which stems from the understanding of the cbo analysis of the bill. >> the reality is the overwhelming majority of congress knows that this bill is crazy even though there are six or seven say that in private wet senator sinema also says in public. reporter: they want to see vote take place even without his support. >> if that is the case, then i hope we will bring a strong bill to the floor of the senate as soon as we can and let senator manchin explained to the people of west virginia why he doesn't have the guts to stand up to powerful special interest. reporter: he said today if lawmakers want to vote to show where they stand and they should hold one. molly: joining us now from we see anna republican senator cassidy a member of the senate finance committee and work was senator manchin to pass the bipartisan infrastructure pads on —- package but as opposed to social spending package. thank you for joining us this sunday before christmas. it has been a fascinating interview this morning with senator revealing with brett baier what senator manchin thinks to say no to this and what the people of west virginia want and what they are concerned with the price of groceries and gas. and he said if you want to vote then have a vote. he doesn't seem shy how he feels about standing up for this. was this poor planning on the part of democrats or were they outmaneuvered? what happened. >> it fell upon its own weight. it was a terrible bill. it was added to current inflation at a four-year high. a $3 trillion in ten years to our nation's debt and deficit. and then to get a tax break to millionaires and billionaires. i think it collapsed under its own weight. it was a bad, bad, bad bill. molly: senate majority leader mcconnell weighed in on thursday this was him on the split of the infrastructure and build back better. >> i thought it was a good idea to separate out the part of the bill that enjoyed overwhelming support with infrastructure. i said let's pass the sugar and then see if they can't swallow the spinach. the spinach was left behind. and as we speak today they are having a hard time swallowing the spinach. molly: i love spinach so i don't like that metaphor but talk about the standing issues and the climate initiatives the democrats would like to see. i don't know how things will turn out but is there a point where republicans and democrats can get together and what can get done? what can be accomplished quick. >> we accomplish things together with the bipartisan infrastructure bill. there were things authorized under the trump administration for climate in particular that the bipartisan infrastructure bill passed. that point in the correct direction that if republicans work together to take republican ideas, we can pass something that is good for the nation. if democrats do everything on their own it is dominated by the progressive left and then they end up with something which is a train wreck for the country. i would argue you get your republican input and pass something. molly: let's talk about inflation but there is some polling on the build back better plan with concerns raised there are a lot of voters concerned about extending employment to raise inflation. that is something senator manchin talked about the concern about inflation. so where do you cast the blame? we heard democrats talk about everything from corporate greed to conglomerates but where do you cast the blame and how do you solve the problem moving forward? >> they dump one.$9 trillion in the american relief plan. that's on top of the spending that already occurred with the safety net of the american people. if you have that much money to the american economy, they have more money chasing the same amount of goods. but the supply of the supply chain in a bipartisan infrastructure bill addresses that. one more reason folks will like the results. how do you fix it? stop dumping too much money into the economy. let it settle down. work on your supply chain issues. workout your covid issues so you don't slow down goods coming from overseas by rules that don't make as much sense as a should but they certainly slow down the goods coming into the country. another thing that we can do as the build back better. molly: talk about the cbo when they dug into this in short-term spending versus the dreams the democrats had put onto this with the social spending bill and those issues they wanted to try to address. are any of those things that they can snag under a new piece of legislation? this is stuff that i applied when they did the child tax credit went to monthly payment system. that is good government. so we can take some things that were good government and put them in their but that is quite different than getting. one provision is a tax break earning as much as $500,000 per year to buy and 80000-dollar electric vehicles something that elon musk has said is not necessary there is so much in their that is bad, bad, bad bill. molly: thank you so much senator cassidy. coming up later this hour we have more and senator manchin's comments in the ongoing inflation concerns with the chief political correspondent byron york. or micron variant is wreaking havoc with less than one week to christmas. people are waiting in long lines just to get covid test. many venues canceling events. saturday night on —- snl went on without a live audience. now it's been confirmed and all that if you states. we are alive with latest from the newsroom. reporter: the virus is spreading across the country at a rapid pace some people are just canceling plans altogether. some are having déjà vu with the closures in new york. the lines for covid testing a wrapping around the block. people are waiting for hours just to get a covid test. new york set another record with more than 22000 people testing positive for covid-19. mayor de blasio says it will be difficult but the city will get through it. >> it's a challenging few weeks. were not here to minimize the extent of the challenge we have the tools we need everyone to get in the game and get vaccinated and boosted it will make a world of difference for us to get by this quickly. reporter: doctors are finding an uptick of breakthrough cases elizabeth warren announced she tested positive today. she had the vaccine and the booster tweeting she has mild symptoms. also knew tonight the nba councils more than five games as they are dealing with outbreaks as they changed their schedule yet again. the cleveland cavaliers had five players test positive right now hospitals across the country are bracing for the fallout the national guard steps in as other medical facilities from kansas and missouri are looking at surgery so the five states coming up on your screen with the highest hospitalization numbers per 100,000 people indian is at the top of the list and according to the cdc almost 73 percent has received at least one vaccine but only 30 percent had a booster shot. molly: a crisis brewing in san francisco the mayor declares a state of emergency with drug overdoses in the area. more than 700 people died do a drug overdose with more than 600 overdose death this year alone so she's declaring a state of emergency or the downtown neighborhood hit hard by the crisis. the mayor says the declaration will cut through bureaucracy and barriers when it comes to getting more police, social services and other resources to that area with another tragic situation in that community. >> patient not have to look over their shoulders. they should not be punched in the face randomly. they should not have to see someone sticking a needle in various parts of their body wondering what can i do to help them. >> three days prior to the emergency declaration she condemned crying that another press conference growing on —- joining the growing list of those who want to defined the police and the same thing like this. >> and it's time they destroyed the city to come to an end and it comes to an end when we take the steps to be more aggressive on enforcement. more aggressive with changes and policy. and less policies then we will continue to have cream on —- crime and lots of it no matter how much we spent. reporter: san francisco in particular jumped 18 percent from last year and there is a 50 percent increase of homicides. molly: christina, thank you. one.2 million. that is the number of migrants coming over the border illegally this year. gray gavitt is taking things into his own hands when he
