if you look behind me, this is what you see along the stretch, it's a mention churr of downed tree -- mixture of downed trees, you see doors, parts of houses, clothes, household items. higher up in the trees, you see blankets in the trees, even a chair high up in the tree. it's a sign of complete devastation along a wide path through multiple states and this downtown area of mayfield got hit the worst. when you talk to people, some have lost their homes, some have lost their cars, their jobs. some all three. and when you ask them when they start to come back and see how devastated the area is, some are uncertain if that will be able to come of back. here's one man whose house was completely destroyed. >> it's just devastating, man. there's nothing i can do, just pray to god and we'll get this town back and i know it's going to take time and a it's a small town, but i'm telling myself there's no town no more. i don't know what they're going to do. this is very devastating. i hate this for this whole town, man. >> reporter: the word i keep hearing talking to people on this street where house after house has been through the same thing is loss, people are feeling lost. the regular markers, even the street signs are all down. as far as the death toll goes, the governor's saying it's likely to be over 100 and many of those right here at a candle factory in this town, 40 escaped but 70 still not accounted for so this could be the worst of it when it comes to the death toll from this storm. mike, back to you steve, after covering the south part of my career, i think of severe weather season as springtime. how shocking is it that this was in december? >> reporter: i think people weren't ready for it at all, even theme who were experienced because it is unusual to happen in he december. it's a bright, sunny day right now. can you imagine the terror midnight friday night, when you have 100-mile-an-hour winds, strong enough just to scatter the entire neighborhood like this? i mean, when you talk to people, they burst into tears at this point. mike: steve harrigan doing a phenomenal job on the ground in mayfield, kentucky and the flight team with the drone, really powerful images. thank very much. president biden planning to tour the devastation, after promising to do whatever is needed to help, starting with funneling resources to the area. david spunt at the white house has more. >> reporter: hell he low, mike. -- hello, mike. president biden back at the white house this afternoon after spending part of the weekend in delaware where he received updates from his team on the devastation. the president spoke twice with kentucky governor andy beshear just yesterday. >> i want to emphasize what i told the governors, the federal government will do everything, everything they can possibly do to help. fema is working with each state to assess the damages and focus on federal support where it is needed most and how we can get it there most rapidly. >> reporter: alejandro mayorkas and deanne chriswell will visit the devastation today. >> we have reports of people missing and unaccounted for. the live sustaining efforts are our priority today. >> reporter: the president says he plans to visit kentucky. when a president travels, there's a large footprint. president biden wants to make sure it's done at the appropriate time. mike: thanks very much. for more details on the rescue operations underway, we're joined by the regional ceo of the american red cross in kentucky, steve kunanan. he's on the ground in mayfield, kentucky. steve, welcome. >> thank you, mike. i appreciate you getting out the word here. i'm in the heart of mayfield, kentucky at the historic courthouse. mike: you handle disasters for ooh living. how -- for a living. how bad is this one? >> this one is bad. it started on friday night and what i did, i drove down, i of live about four hours away so i drove down right after the storm. the storm was still kind of winding down. what was a four hour drive turned out to be a six hour drive and it's just unbelievable disaster. it is beyond words, driving through i saw a truck in the middle of a farm field. 300 yards from anywhere a car should be. and those stories are really common place down here. mike: our drone is showing incredible images of devastation. you know, steve, after working in texas for years, i think of severe weather season being march, april and may. how shocking is it that massive and deadly tornadoes struck in december. >> well, i think it's very shocking. when i arrived on-scene, it was 75 degrees, rainy, humid. this morning it was under 30 degrees which you probably expect and that was the reason why. and i think it really kind of fooled a lot of people. i talked to a gentleman who came up to the car and he was dissheveled, had mud all over him and he talked about his journey. what happened was he went to sleep and his dog woke him up and when his dog woke him up he heard the tornado. they went into the bathroom which was an interior room. he was sucked out of his house, 25 feet from the structure. when he looked up he told me he thought he would see damage. what he saw was nothing. there was no house, there was nothing there. and he is just in shock. and there are hundreds of stories about that. mike: this is the christmas season and those fortunate enough to survive may have lost all of their material possessions. what are the immediate needs and as this crisis goes forward? >> the first need is really shelter. so people need a safe place to stay and that's what we're working on right now. there are a number of shelters that are opened. they need food to eat and they need critical supplies. this happened in the middle of the night. people left with nothing. they don't have medicine, they don't have driver's licenses, they don't have anything. so what we have to do is help rebuild some of those immediate needs right now. also, it's very important that we go ahead and provide mental health and spiritual care for these folks. they're in shock. and there's a community in ♪♪ helping them discover their dreams is one of the best parts of being a parent. one of the most important is giving them ways to fulfill them. for over 150 years, generations have trusted the strength and stability of pacific life. because life insurance can help protect and provide for the financial futures of the ones we love. talk to a financial professional about pacific life. i have something for you. >> that's senator graham's talking about a bill that a we did not pass. the one we passed, the build back better act that passed out of the house and is in the hands of the senate right now, it creates jobs, it lowers expenses on things like prescription drugs and health care insurance, and it cuts taxes, you know, for families with little kids. it's a huge tax cut for the middle class. and nobody will pay more in taxes who makes less than $400,000. not only that, it's going to create jobs, mike. we're talking about 1 is.5 million -- 1.5 million jobs other the next ten years. can you imagine 15 million jobs? nbá/ there is he's creating what we call a strawman, and that's when you make up the argument for the other side. and what he's doing is he's making up what the build back better plan would be if they extended all of the programs that are in it indefinitely. in fact, these programs sunset. for example, child credit, that sunsets after another year. he's assuming it doesn't. so he's making up a bill and then having it scored. look, mike, our lives are short enough. we don't have the time to waste on arguing about bills that dent exist. that's -- that don't exist. that's time you'd never get back. mike: but, to be fair if, don't people hold up the nonpartisan congressional budget office as the gold standard if they're saying what you want them to say? were they wrong or what's the deal there? >> no, they were answering the question correctly, but the question was wrong. the question was, well, if all of the programs are extended indefinitely, how much will it cost. indefinitely, and so they're answering a hypothetical question on a bill that doesn't exist. mike: okay. we had the most expensive thanksgiving ever, we're likely head aing for the most expensive -- heading for the most expensive christmas ever. there are some who argue pumping trillions into the economy is a bad move. how do you respond? >> well, there's no doubt inflation is hurting families right now in america, and it's a tough time to be going through it, you know, near the holidays when we want to buy things and have nice celebrations. but here's the thing, the inflation is on us because we're coming out of a pandemic. it's not just the united states. it's all over. wholesale prices in japan are way up, fuel prices in japan are up, european union in november had, i think, the biggest spike in inflation they've ever had since the inception of the european union. so it's not just america. this is the world coming out of the pandemic, and we've seen it before. because every time we come out of a big war, particularly world ét "2ñá& out of those wars and the economy started up again, you know, you have the pent-up demand for goods and services that's going to make prices spike. you're going to have industry that has to retool after war and start making, you know, civilian goods and cars and things like that. we saw all this before, so kind of what you would expect coming out of a pandemic although none of us went to school for this, for how to come out of a pandemic, you know, shutting down the economy and open it up again. we're kind of doing on the job training here, mike. mike: congressman matt cartwright of the commonwealth of pennsylvania, thank you for your time. sorry we're tight with the breaking news. >> have a good holiday, mike. good to see you. mike: fox news alert, new details about the crash in mission if, texas, that was alleged hi caused by a migrant smuggler as the remain in mexico policy is back in effect for a week now. bill melugin had the story first live in eagle pass, texas. hello, bill. >> reporter: good afternoon to you. just a few minutes ago weog lo}e learned that two innocent people who were killed in that crash with the suspected human smuggler were a local mother and daughter from mission, texas. horribly tragic. if we can pull up this drone video we shotuñ?ñ yesterday, law enforcement tells us that with a suspected human smuggler with a vehicle was being chased police yesterday when he flew through an intersection and t-boned a vehicle with those two innocent people, a mom and daughter. tragically, they both passed away. law enforcement telling me they were ages 59 and 22, and they were both locals from mission, texas. you can pull up some photos from the scene of the crash given to me by a source, you can see how violent that crash was. one of the migrants, actually, was launched through the windshield. that migrant was okay. the only two people who died in the crash, tragically, were that mom and daughter from mission, texas. six illegal immigrants were recovered, and the driver has been arrested. also from the rio grande valley yesterday, if we can pull up this drone video our team shot h. we were watching as a raft dropped off 31 is illegal immigrant -- 11 illegal immigrant runners who took off into the brush. black.ere dressed in mostly all) clearly, they did not want to be apprehended. a guy on the mexican side of the river used a rope to pull that raft back over into mexico. unclear if those runners were ever caught. they did end up responding to the area. then brings it here to where we are in the -- bringing it here to where we are, we were out with texas dps until 3:00 in the morning last night where they were working private ranches about 10 miles inland where illegal immigrant runners try to go through the area in the middle of the night, obviously, not want toing to turn themselvs in. elite guys out there, extremely rugged terrain. we were with them as they arrested multiple people, and texas dps are the only people working those private ranches. border patrol is not out there. all the single men they capture are arrested and taken to jail for criminal trespassing. back out here live, del rio sector incredibly hot. a source tells us just since october 1st del rio has had more than 70,000 migrant apprehensions. that is up 235% over the same time period last year. =$tbk mike: stunning number and stunning visuals. bill melugin, thank you so much. for more on our crisis at the border, let's bring in the attorney general of arizona, mark byrne slip. general, welcome. >> thank you for having me. mike: texas, obviously, has a major problem. how bad are things in the great state of arizona? >> well, this isn't just in arizona or texas, this is obviously a national problem. we know that more than 2 million people will legally cross the border just this year. that's like two state of delaware, two of biden's home state of delawares coming over in one year. and as the report just alluded to, there's tens of thousands of gotaways. there's a bunch of people surrendering that are overwhelming our social system and law enforcement, there's also tens of thousands of people that are engaged in high pursuit, high-speed pursuit ises that are trying to evade capture, and you have to ask yourself what are they doing. we notice they're smuggling record amounts of drugs anden abling the cartels to basically seize control along the border and bring violence to all of our neighborhoods. mike: what's the impact of this national problem, this nationaly state resources there in arizona? >> well, it's -- we start talking about these numbers. mike, there are human costs. we know now in places like the second largest county in arizona, fentanyl and deathses are the -- death are the main cause of people dying. there's a fiscal cost in the billions of dollars that can impact not only arizona and overtime costs for law enforcement, fire departments, for the hospital systems. in fact, we have a lawsuit right now the supreme court just accepted, u.s. supreme court, dealing with the public charge rule because the biden administration is attempting to give public welfare and benefits to people who have entered the country illegally. and i think that's unfair to hard working american taxpayers, and it's incentivizing, that is monetizing, people coming here illegally. this is a cost we can't even measure. and i would just remind everyone listening today with the looming manmade disaster facing this country, it's not climate change. it is the man made disaster that joe biden and his enablers in óíne'l+a-(smq3&o61obpáaotx1ç our southern border. mike: another big issue you're in the middle of is vaccine mandates, suing to top them. what's the latest on your legal fight against vaccine mandates that you're really front and center on? >> we filed the first-ever lawsuit are dealing with the contractors' mandate. that's been put result of the lawsuit. my colleagues and myself have filed. we know it's been put on hold as far as requiring the health care providers and those who receive medicaid money to require vaccines, that's been put on hold. the osha rules have been put on hold, clearly unconstitutional. so the biden administration is losing not only in the court of public opinion, but they're losing in the courtroom. and what they're doing, mike, is they're playing this game where they keep trying to change the rules expect policies to kind of move the -- and the policies to kind of move the end zone. me and my colleagues keep fighting because our constitution can never be distanced, masked or canceled, and that's what the far left's trying to do. and that's why we keep fighting the biden administration and his enablers back there in d.c.. mike: i'd like to drill down on your fight>3 ñdffj[=yñsx!?■ hele workers. they were treated as heroes, basically, for much of the pan a demick. what are your concerns -- pandemic. what are your concerns if your case, you know, loses? >> in my district, we were very fortunate, no reported damage in my district. i live in hot springs and my district is west of where the damage was done. i calm in from d.c. friday and was at a dinner with governor hutchinson in the governor's mansion. he had to get up and leave the dinner. i was 79 degrees when i left the governor's man. -- man shone.it was a perfect rr disastrous storms. fortunately, my district was spared. northeast arkansas as you see got hit very hard. mike: what are you hearing about your neighboring districts and what they may need from the federal government? >> well, we've got great first responders, the governor's been on the scene. from what i'm understanding right now, they're trying to clean up debris and take care of the people who were injured. you know, in all of this destruction, i think there is a bit of a silver lining. i was reading about the story of the monet nursing home and how the residents and the staff there, they uh huh delled up and they began to sing hymns and pray. i think it's a great message. it reminds me of what david wrote, i will call upon the lord for his words to be praised and he saved me from my enemy. when we face destruction like this, we know where we need to look to and i know people still appreciate the prayers and then all the other of support that will come in the days following. mike: we're showing our audience the devastation from monet, arkansas you're a may continue arkansan. what is the extent of what you're seeing and the surprise of it coming in december? >> it's somewhat unprecedent todd have -- unprecedented to have a storm like this in december. we're accustomed to tornadoes and severe weather. ten years ago my church was destroyed in a tornado and people are resilient. they build back. this happens to communities all over the south and southwest and even in the midwest as we saw this tornado was i think 200 miles long, one of the longest in history. but it's not just arkansas. it's a four-state area that was devastated by this storm. mike: republicans and democrats in this town don't get along much. they don't seem to agree on much. are you confident that you will get the resources that you need in arkansas and tennessee and kentucky? >> i believe so. these are issues where we do come together and we can agree. you know, these storms, they're not respecters of anybody. they happen all over, whether it's tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, wildfires. we see devastation all over the country and a this is one thing that i believe congress really comes together on and we put the politics aside and try to do what's best for the people. mike: bruce westerman of the great state of arkansas, our best to the folks in arkansas, tennessee, kentucky and beyond as they clean up and move on. >> thank you, mike. mike: thank you, sir. as fears loom of a russian invasion of ukraine questions remain on how the united states should respond. more on that, next. >> man: what's my safelite story? >> well, you know, it sounds tough but i think the actions need to meet the rhetoric. i think the problem, you know, history teaches us that weakness invites aggression. you can go back to the afghanistan evacuation where there was a complete debacle that the unconditional surrender to the taliban, president biden has taken a look at this. he always wanted ukraine in the bread basket of russia. his calculation is this a weak president and now is the time. i would also say, mike, that his waiver of congressional sanctionses on the nord stream 2 pipeline which will allow putin to complete his pipeline into europe was the major foreign policy blunder that just emboldened and empowered putin which gives him leverage over europe and nato right now. mike: what should the united states and its allies be doing to support ukraine right now? >> right now i think the threat of sanctions, i think also the military aid needs to be strengthened. there's a $200 million lethal aid package sitting on the president's desk and yet what he is saying is i'm not going to give it to ukraine even though they asked for it, unless russia invades ukraine. it should be the other way around. we should be giving it to them now. deterrence is really the key here, mike. if we don't show deterrence, he will invade. and it would be the largest invasion in europe since world war ii. mike: if an invasion happens, what's an appropriate response from the united states? >> well, this is where -- they're not a nato ally but i think our presence in poland and in the baltic nations -- because mr. putin is looking beyond ukraine. what he also wants is the port of odessa where we were going to send lng clean energy and now he's probably going maybe take that over. i think there will be more and more aggression to restore the old glory of the soviet empire. that is his ultimate goal here. mike: to the beijing olympics, the biden administration says it's not sending a vip delegation. what about a business boycott of the beijing games? >> well, we ask the ioc to move the games. they won't do that. i think the diplomatic boycott is appropriate. i don't think corporate america is going to do that. they have a moral responsibility. i passed on the floor this last week the uyghur muslim genocide act, condemning china for their genocide and we also passed the forced labor prevention protection act. i think corporate america has a moral responsibility that if they're going to support the games, they need to talk about what is happening in china with the ongoing genocide in the xinjiang province. it is absolutely unacceptable. mike: i'm old enough to remember jimmy carter not sending american at a leads to the moscow games. is that going too far?
