i've covid natural disasters where the community comes together to try to help each other and make sure everyone has a roof over their head. reporter: that's certainly what is happening. the problem is so many hotels in the area simply don't have electric power, even phones are out as well so they will have to be moved further and further away this tremendous effort made and we are seeing law enforcement and national guards, these people are coming from all over to try to help out. when you approach the area, he saw down trees at roof damage but when you come to the heart of account of 10000, complete blocks are gone which you don't really see and tornadoes. you normally sleep some houses intact. this area is wide and it scraped from the ground in the main downtown area. sean: you set the prospects don't look very good at the candle factory, 70 people missing. have you heard anything from authorities for the prospects are in finding survivors into the night? reporter: you sort of judge from activity and right now responders are standing there next to the pile. there hasn't been anyone pulled out alive since 3:00 a.m. so it doesn't look good for several thousand, perhaps as high as 70. the death toll is likely to keep on climbing the next 48 hours. abby: question for you, a lot of what we are hearing all day long, part of the reason why this was so dangerous and deadly is because it happened kind of in the middle of the night. from being on the ground there, you think that played a part in why so many people were trapped inside the factory? >> i think certainly in the middle of the night and also this time of year. 70 degrees creates the conditions for an amazing storm. when you talk to first responders, people used to dealing with tornadoes in this part of the country, they have never seen anything this powerful at this level of destruction. david: these situations get even worse as you mentioned, we are getting into the night, temperatures dropping, what about outside agencies coming in from national guard and others? power supply is important to keep for people. >> you are right, power supply, water, electricity. the agencies are flooding in. you can see just about every agency, federal and state agency around and a lot of heavy equipment as well. there certainly is a tremendous effort. it gets complicated by the fact that street lights are out, you drive along in here gps stop at this light, the light is gone, the stop lights are gone and there is debris and power lines across the road so even though agencies aren't here, moving around and getting people to safety will be a real challenge when the roads are off. jackie: we want to go to arkansas, a person died when a tornado tore off a roof over nursing home. multimedia journalist, hunter davis is live at that nursing home. hunter. reporter: it has been revealing itself more and more throughout the day strong the storm was, as we move throughout the day, taken laps around the building just to see the extent of the damage. what we want to do is one of the few times we been doing this, get you up in the air to show you aerial shots because your at ground level, tough to fully explain how extensive the damages but the aerial shots you can really see especially the damage to the roof which is mostly gone, if not completely gone. you can see down into the residence rooms and this was something impactful because some of those people coming to collect their belongings for their loved ones who lived here say seeing all of the debris on their beds is really eye-opening had they not been taken into shelter into those hallways, they would have died because if you look down into the rooms with the roof completely gone from uc debris on the beds. this is something barbara, who is a nurse here at the nursing home was telling us, she was saying they were glad they got the residence out as quickly as they did because once they saw how extensive the debris was, she knew it could have been very bad. >> they had sirens going off and had to start putting some and. brought them already and i had one door and i saw the wind, i knew to cover up. reporter: bring us back out here, it is difficult to put into words how extensive the damage is and how much cleanup there is to do, the aerial gives you a clear picture. if we take it this way, it will show us what's next, the damage we've been showing you incredible images out here, as we go across the street here to a neighborhood that was significantly damaged, it shows us the next chapter, recovery. you can see tarps going up on groups over there, you can see limbs put out on the side of the road so they can start the pickup process. as we move down here, this lease seems to be the storm's path, gone to the left of this nursing home, the further we go, we lose too much signal to bring you images from down there but pretty much it is a reflection of the nursing home a reflection of what the rest of the road looks like. we have seen volunteers in-and-out of the area trying to help with the recovery efforts. we saw some people here earlier today bringing chainsaws, one of so many efforts to get these people back on their feet. jackie: you been doing great coverage, i know we have a bit of a delay but i want to ask you, dark is obviously approaching, people who survived in nursing homes, medical care potentially, they need to be kept warm and electricity, federal aid is on the way but it won't be there until after tonight, what are provisions being made right now? >> we spoke to the owner of the nursing home and the administrator about an hour or so ago, they assured us the residents evacuated are either in a hospital or they've been put in other nursing home facilities for the time being until i can figure out exactly what will be done with this current nursing home but they are short us the residents were taken care of, they were a priority immediately and they are find moving forward. jackie: thank you so much for that. coming up next on the show, five and finally acknowledging he has terrible approval ratings and we are going to be talking about it. ♪♪ 's 's want to save on your home internet? [laughter] i was paying attention -- but now i don't pay attention. [laughter] >> i appreciate the honesty. you came in, you came in hot and now you're at a low. you just have to keep your head down, right and doing the right thing? >> this is how bad his approval is, a new poll showing 41% of americans approve of his performance while 50% disproof but the number is worse for his economic handling from a 37% approved while 56% disapprove. a big reason is because of inflation, consumer price index starting to 6.8% last month. thus the highest in nearly 40 years. sean, you talk about overall approval rating but you get to his performance of the economy, 37% of americans say he's doing a good job so let's throw up inflation numbers that strike us in particular. states up 25%, gas is up 50%. i know some might say i don't eat bacon or meat, it doesn't matter but if you go to a restaurant that serves those things, you will see prices reflected in other ways so what you make of what he said about approval ratings? >> it's not because he has bad hair or can't complete sentences, it's because people's real lives are being impacted. people are still making the same salary they were a year ago and can't afford the new price increases and we are talking 7% inflation while approval numbers, if you drill down the cost of people's lives when you look at the real cost at the kitchen table when you buy food and put gas in your car, they are higher than 7% so to laugh at this is cool i think would be great if joe biden changed course but he still open border and supporting crime and spending and printing of money, all of these things i think will make people more angry but if you don't stop spending money, if you don't stop printing money, the consequences of inflation will only grow in one must think, he talked about on appointment rate being at 4.2%. millions of people are viewing the jobs available right now so the problem is you have a workforce getting money from government and not getting supply issues taking place right now in the american government. huge problem across the board but the biden's policies have caused this. >> still 11 million jobs to be filled as well and we do have another soundbite from the interview but i want to go back to david, he kind of laughed it off and set i don't pay much attention to them, of course he does. it's a late night show, he's going to joke about it but you think if he really did pay more attention to the approval ratings, there might be accountability and something he's learned from the american people? >> first of all, every politician pays attention to their approval ratings. whoever wrote his teleprompters, they did a great job, we'll give him that but american people feeling this, you look at dissipation rate, seven or eight points less than president trump, that's a reality. when you print more money put money on the market, that is evaluation going down. he can yuck it up all he wants but the fact is he's trying to deflect from this, low unemployment numbers with people out of the workforce, they are not counting the american people are living this and i think we as americans, should focus less on his approval ratings and more on how we replace the democrat report in these policies on all levels across america. >> if i could jump in here, i want to talk about the numbers you mentioned because i think this is really important for people to understand. he sitting there laughing about making a joke but when it comes to the additional spending we are talking about, we are talking $4.9 trillion. that would be the actual cost of the bill they are trying to pass and that would add $3 trillion to our national debt. it's a serious issue when it comes to inflation and what we see coming up in the future. i want to mention this as well, they are calling it fake that the democrats do when they don't agree with the numbers but let's look at the gas prices. $3.33 national average, a lot higher in different states across the country. three dollars a gallon. they pump down 9 cents and joe biden wants to take credit for that. that's not because of joe biden or his policies or relief, it's because the markets are worried about omicron and seeing a bit of a dip in demand. right now your gas prices on average are up $1.17 since last year end people feel that. >> it's funny because last night on jimmy fallon joe biden actually said go back better. >> i know you are working hard on the build back better plan, break it down. >> the ability for working-class and middle-class people to have what it costs to have cut significantly. every single bit of the bill is paid for. >> sean, quick reaction. >> this will at $3 trillion to our deficit but what's really important here, there are rules and relations in this global warming, it will cost jobs, to places like china and india, it will be catastrophic for the american people. >> thanks so much. we will be talking about that i'm sure for the next few days and probably next month and maybe the next year, probably our whole lives. all right, it's a story everyone is still talking about, justice for jussie smollett after being convicted of faking a hate crime chicago police commissioner said there's one thing that convicted him and it's a subway sandwich. that's coming up. ♪♪ welcome back to the big saturday show. jussie smollett faces several years behind bars for making a hate crime and still has legal trouble. city of chicago suing him for the cost of the investigation. now the former chicago police superintendent says the subway sandwich is what convicted him. >> this guy had a sandwich in his hand so that was a real clue to us something was amiss. >> former president trump reacting to his conviction. >> this is really a hate crime, hate crime in reverse and he's not going to get away with it. >> david, we've got jussie smollett who says he was attacked, he had acid thrown on him, he was punched but it gets back to his apartment and he has a perfectly good subway sandwich, kind of odd. not only that, he kept it, the alleged noose around his neck for hours, he never took it off. what is your take on this evidence?
