>> repeat the question. carley: why did you decide to ditch the democratic party as the full-screen set of the bottom? >> there are many reasons i switched parties but one of them would be immigration policies was you see what is going on on the border and i don't think we have an immigration policy, to secure the border, we don't have an immigration policy. anyone who wants to come to this, across the border illegally our immigration policy is a bunch of words on a piece of paper nobody respects so that is one reason. another reason would be unemployment, we hit the 50 year low unemployment rate before the pandemic hit and right now what you are seeing in my home state of virginia is businesses struggling to hire people, to hire people because they don't have the resources because they were hit hard during the pandemic, i got tired of the same rhetoric and i'm done, i can't take it. i need to be true to buy values. >> you expect to see more democrats rejecting biden and the party in the midterms? >> absolutely. we saw 55% turnout of voters in virginia voting for gwen youngerken and we will see that in 2022 and the work in 2024. 100%. carley: i was reading what you sent to producers and one thing caught my eye, being hispanic and black eye should be democrat by default but i'm going against the narrative and i feel like that is right now everything is crumbling for democrats but going back to the racial issue we did hear president biden on the campaign trail say a few vote for donald trump you are not black. why is there this sort of sense that you have to vote by race and how did it feel to break that mold? >> democrats have run this narrative for years. it has to do with misinformation especially in the hispanic community you can see spanish news networks mostly run by liberals, liberal news outlets and focusing on hispaniola because a lot of misinformation the hispanic community receives comes from these networks like cnn in spanish, telemundo, we need to break that mold. the hispanic community needs to make better decisions in the future in 2022-2024. >> very good idea. todd: when you were democrat to follow up on that did you think republicans were racist? >> of course i thought iran with the narrative. i thought republicans were racist. carley: why did you think that? >> that was the narrative, the media, working for democrat mayor muriel bowser you would see it every day republicans are racist, we need to fight against that and push crt and it is not who i am and i don't think the country is racist. i came from the dominican republic and went to anchorage, alaska, spoke very little english, attended the university and never experienced anything i would consider racist and honestly all the white people i have encountered have bent over backwards to give me opportunities to succeed. i feel like i am the american dream and in anchorage, eating oatmeal and water for days. >> you have so much political experience and a new republican, we are running out of time but what is your advice for republicans running particularly in inner cities and trying to gain votes from people who may not traditionally vote for them? >> an interesting message from this county attorney concerning already indicated they may charge this kid as an adult and sending a mixed signal by saying we may charge him as an adult and also charges against the parents. if they are going to it would be some. waiting and abetting or the like. this is one in which you scratch your head because this kid was determined to do something and do something nefarious. it is tragic and these parents are suffering along with those who had a lot of lives and they are unhappy about it but justice is supposed to be consistent and fair and consider these issues. todd: how common is it to go after parents for crimes like this committed by the kid? >> that is one of the problems. you want consistency with the application of criminal law and consistency is important and predictability is important and it is not predictable that parents could not foresee they would be charged. it would be similar using a vehicle to go in and kill others to kill mom or dad's car, we charge them because they left the keys on the counter in the kitchen. the slippery slope of a decision like this. todd: interesting question of the burden of proof. all eyes on the jussie smollett trial, nigerian brother speaking out on the fourth day of the trial after the court heard testimony the actor told the brothers to attack him in front of the surveillance camera. how convincing is the prosecutor's case so far? >> the prosecutor is running a dangerous line of making representations to the jury about the kind of evidence they are going to give and when they put that evidence out there what happens when the witnesses can on the stand? you can't avoid it but these witnesses are trying to tell the truth, it's not exactly what jussie smollett and his defense team want to hear, it doesn't always fit the narrative. carley: what you expect the defense to do in response? >> there's a lot of damage control that has to be done now, and there's the issue of whether or not jussie smollett's case is believable now that those witnesses have testified. they are scrambling and have to come up with some evidence to refute the fact the it appears to be exactly what the media reported it was after discovering this was a hoax. todd: so fascinating off the rittenhouse case, everybody knew what the facts were to this case which is about all the facts, so many different versions of what happened. that is why we have courts, to figure that out. carley: 25 after the hour, democrats blasted from all sides for celebrating a decrease in gas prices under president biden. brian bromberg has the story coming up next. ♪♪ democrats praising president biden for $0.02 did in gas prices. gas prices have skyrocketed under his presidency. society with more on the back lash. >> reporter: the democratic congressional campaign committee under fire for this tweet which praises president biden for gas prices falling $0.02. twitter users blasting the dcc.a gallon of gas is a dollar higher over last year with the nrc showing prices under biden, the washington post writing an article saying it might be the worst offense of the biden administration yet adding you are not helping, dcc see. as for gas prices the current national coverage is -- a year ago was to has exclusive -- 216 ago. in california record average price last week in the golden state and some parts of california about $5. todd: any further proof they might think they are stupid. biden doubling down on this hypocrisy, vaccinated one area, other people free for all. >> reporter: despite what jpmorgan says about the omicron variance, starting monday all travelers heading for the us including us citizens have to complete a covid test whether they are vaccinated or not but the administration refuses to address the thousands of migrants crossing the southern border who are not being tested, the border needs to be secure. >> having enforcement of immigration protects all of us giving people amnesty without db. incentives are all wrong, more giveaways will not help us secure the border. >> reporter: the omicron varied has been identified in the us but a big note from jpmorgan, a lot of these concerns about omicron are overblown. the markets moved on. >> market just hanging to see what the jobs report is. we appreciate it. carley: american save more money during the pandemic but thanks to rising inflation it will be worth a lot less. executive vice president and associate professor of business, long title, never apologize, you're very successful. americans have access savings of $1.6 trillion which sounds great but is it the full picture? >> they got this cash out of the pandemic, government handed over trillions in cash, putting it in the bank, the problem is because prices are going up the money is worth less so you try to build a nest egg but values the road and so it is dangerous to have money stuck in the bank if you want to preserve its value because inflation is eroding that was when it is time to spend it, you don't buy as much is you used to be able to. carley: president biden's peace last week was sort of inflation is happening but americans have a lot of saving so don't worry about it and we are about to give people more money. is that smart economic policy? >> drives maintenance, we give you cash on the one hand but make sure the value even. this doesn't work and especially doesn't work for people at the bottom end of the income spectrum. we talk about that. carley: 45% of household are hurt by inflation and these are the numbers that really matter. 71% of households making less than 40,$000 reported financial hardship in 28% of -- consider financial hardship to be severe. >> they got kids, families, they have to buy groceries, need a new appliance when it breaks down, these are folks living on tight budgets, economic times are tough, whatever money they save is being eroded in terms of its value. this is the problem. the president can talk about the fact that people are saving money but the truth on the ground this people feel they are having a hard time getting things they need. carley: especially because president biden ran on a platform to help low income people and not raise taxes for people over 400,$000 and inflation - >> reporter: he focused on say i'm not going to raise taxes if you make less than 400,000, think about people making 40,$000 and what is going on in their lives and the prices they are paying in the situation, policymakers in dc are ignoring the reality of that group as they focus on their own ideology. carley: articles by people in the media maybe inflation is a good thing, imagine making less than 40,$000 and have a child and see something like that. species this into an elite in a coastal city preaching to you why inflation is good. carley: when can we see inflation stop? >> i would like to say there is some policy on the horizon that will fix it but i haven't seen anything out of the biden administration that tells me they are serious about inflation which means well into 2022 we will continue to see that. carley: has he ever announced any policy that would lead to a slowdown?
