hitting new low. david spunt live from the white house with the latest. david: the president and his top aides are well aair of that statistic that we are seeing the inflation rate at 30-year high, highest in 3 decades. that's significant for this white house. nay are aware of the fact and they are also looking at all of the different polls. aides say they don't pay attention to poll. there's a new poll that we want to share with you from abc news and the washington post. looking at the president's overall approval rating, 41% approving, and 53% disapproving, 40% -- 47% rather approving with 49% disapproving and the economy 39% approval and 55% disapproval. gas prices continue to climb, store shelves in many cases bare and the cargo ships continue to sit in the parking lot, ocean parking lot wait to go pull into port and weeks after we reported the story there's still the backlog and don't forget the trucker shortage. >> that's certainly of concern to the president. everyone from the federal reserve to wall street agree with our assessment that inflation is expected to substantially decelerate next year. david: some of the issues the build back better spending bill but we are learnings yet there's another delay. chad, our congressional correspondent reporting earlier this morning that the senate majority leader as you mentioned chuck schumer delaying the build back better because it has not come up in the house and there's no score from the congressional budget office to illustrate the exact cost. president biden will hit the road this week. head to michigan and new hampshire to tout his infrastructure plan that he's going to actually sign into law on the south lawn tomorrow. that's a victory for the white house. that's significant. later in the week he will meet with the mexican president and canadian prime minister but tomorrow he will have a virtual summit. this is going to be a big one with chinese president xi jinping. many topics to discuss there, mike. >> mike: interesting, david, thank you very much. with more on how democrats propose to deal with inflation, illinois democrat committee cherry bustos, congresswoman, welcome. is there an easy fix to inflation which hit 31-year high? >> there's not an easy fix. president biden is ticking this seriously. he has met with the folks that are running our port. he's turned that into a 24/7 operation. he got on the horn just the past week with the ceo's of leading retailers to say we'd like you to play a part in helping us address those. look, i think the report leading into this -- our conversation right now is accurate in that we have an inflation issue that we have to pay attention to. that said, president biden is taking it seriously. i believe that we have to build back better act and i see it as a job's act. i don't call it a spending plan, it's a job's act. every single cent will be paid for. i think this is path to bringing bringing down inflation and better economy. mike: we await the score from the congressional budget office. what are you hearing more concern about your constituents about inflation as it relates to the gas pump or the grocery store or a little bit of both? >> congresswoman: well, it's happening. i was at the ymca this morning working out and fox in the background there and i saw that the segment on meatf lation, price of meat and steak and all of that it is real. i spent 3.45 a gallon to fill up my tank just this weekend, but, again, if we pass the build back better act it will be part of the equation of building back our economy and if i can frame it in a little bit of a different way i don't call it -- [inaudible] >> investment in america. there cannot be a better return on investment than saying we are going the make sure that our public education -- [inaudible] >> great for 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds. we are going to invest in child care so that moms and the parents who haven't been able to go back to work are going to be able to go bark to work. i live in molina, illinois where the united workers will pass contract and get raise, so wages are also going up and that's a good thing. we are going to be creating about a million and a half jobs per year under the infrastructure plan that we pass and the build back better act. these are good-paying jobs and people can afford to take care of their families. so i look at this as an investment in america and i want to look at the party that i'm from, i'm a democrat, but that is about working for working families. that's how i used to frame that. mike: the infrastructure package the president will sign tomorrow is popular in recent polling and abc news poll, there's also growing concern that president biden will do too much to increase the size and role of government in the u.s. it was 53% concern in april. now it's up to 59%. why is that the case? congresswoman: well, look, polls are up, they are down, they are all around, they are going to -- we are right now hundreds of political lifetimes away from next year's election and we are going to see a lot of twists and turns in the polling numbers. but if we stay focus on making sure that we are doing right by working families and -- and the congressional district i represent more than half towns here -- [inaudible] >> he won it in 2020. [inaudible] congresswoman: i share that with you because i think that people -- i'm working shoulder to shoulder with and something that i call cheri on shift where i shadow people. those are the people that we are working for and those are the people it's hurting right now as inflation is going up. but as we pass -- as they stand alone are very popular. if you ask people child care should be more affordable, they will say yes and 3 or 4-year-olds can go to class, they'll tell you yes. the vast majority of these proposals are popular by themselves. just one quick side note, just this past -- i was processing cart out of the illinois river with the gentleman who has been finishing since 16 year's old. they are this big and heavy and doing that by hand throwing them into bins and keeping them cold and processing those. those are the people that we are working for and when this is all set and done, we are going to deliver on some really, really good policy that's going to make a difference in people's lives. mike: all right, congressman cheri bustos from the great state of illinois. >> thank you, mike. mike: i'm joined by south carolina congresswoman and member of the house transportation and infrastructure committee nancy maze, congresswoman, welcome. congresswoman: thank you for having me as always? >> what's your assessment of the u.s. economy? congresswoman: it's in shambles and the decisions that we are making are making worse and when we had the housing recession inflation was 5.8 and i have to correct congressman cheri wages are down, and the cost of groceries are doing up. i just filled my tank in my 2011 chevy tahoe and cost almost $100 to do that. steak is up and most americans are on fixed income and this is going to hit them hard and this is before the energy crisis this winter. mike: i mentioned going through some numbers with her that the infrastructure package is popular but concern that is the president will overreach and do too much to increase the size and the role of the government in the united states. how do you assess those numbers? congresswoman: well, that's absolutely happening and the taxes that are going to come along with the infrastructure package, of course, everybody wants roads and bridges but the problem with this package that president biden is signing into law tomorrow is that they're going to be 42 new taxes in it as part of the way to pay for it. those prices will be passed down to consumers and guess what, only 3% of the spending of the 1.3 trillion is going to real roads and bridges. we saw 80 ships off the coast of california just last week. they are sitting out there while long beach is only becoming 24/7 is beyond me. here in charleston, the port of charleston through covid we have been 24/7 this entire time. government has to get out of the way to solve the problem. mike: on the issue of inflation, what is troubling your constituents the most, is it the fuel prices, is it the cost at the grocery store, is it all of the above and, you know, the white house has used the term transitory for months, have they been in denial about the extent of the problem? >> i think they've been denial about the extent of the problem. here in my district it's all of the above and the administration they've not been factual with the american people, the spending that we are talking about, we did the care's act earlier this year, 1.9 trillion. we are doing infrastructure tomorrow at 1.2 trillion on top of the covid spending all last year and now we are talking about 1.75 trillion for the build back better plan. the spend asking going to contribute massively to our inflation woes and 1.5 trillion does not account for cost of government programs. as senator manchin said a few weeks ago, democrats are playing a shell game. this is the cost -- this is just the start of the cost of some of these programs for a year maybe two, but it doesn't include the cost in perpetuity which is 3, 4 or 5 times the cost and inflation will get worse. mike: what about the supply chain issue? you obviously mentioned the critical port there in charleston, south carolina. what more can be done to address that and obviously huge concern for millions of americans? >> congresswoman: well, continuing to throw money at all of our problems is not going to fix the problem. we haven't done anything to help the supply chain whether that's getting more drivers in trucks, whether that's getting more gates turned, getting more folks, barges getting rails, pulling back on regulation that is would make the supply chain easier for manufacturers and distributors for goods throughout the country. we are just not doing it. we might have a hearing or a meeting but congress and the presidency, no one is doing anything but throwing money at problems and it's going to create more problems. mike: looking ahead of next year's midterms, make the case why republicans should be in charge again? obviously concerns of the way things are running in capitol hill right now? >> we saw with glenn youngkin's race in virginia. he owned the policy, he provided solutions for constituents and voters in virginia. if republicans come forward with solutions and how we are going to get out of the inflation crisis we are seeing and how we will get out of the job crisis we have right now and how we will improve the economy and have a health year economy, have healthy kids and have a great education and be the best country in the world, we have to to have solutions for all of the problems that we are facing. and the republicans, you know, a couple of months ago i said a dozen or two, but now i believe we have an opportunity, a real opportunity to win massively in 2022 if we come up with the right solutions for the american people and we communicate and n a way and the same way that glenn youngkin did in virginia. it gives me great hope for next year in the midterms. mike: congressman nancy maze from the beautiful part of the great state of south carolina, thank you so much for your time, have a great day. >> thank you. mike: on fox news sunday chris wallace will have exclusive interview with texas attorney general ken paxton and also speak with u.s. surgeon fennel vevek murthy, that's after the show, stay tuned. ♪ ♪ >> mike: health officials with the biden administration fear there will be a setback for public health if the courts continue to block vaccine mandates. alexandria hoff joins us with more on the efforts to slow the coronavirus pandemic. >> late friday the fifth circuit court of appeals halted decision for companies that employ more than 100 workers calling the reaches of the mandate staggingly overboard and signed with opponents of the requirement on the basis of upholding constitutional civil liberties. they also noted the potential negative economic impacts and the one size fits all nature of the mandate. the biden administration warn that is the court's decision could lead to hundreds of unnecessary deaths, here is surgeon general vevek murthy. >> those concerned about the vaccine requirements, it's important for them to have their questions answered and their concerns heard but if we are concerned about the safety of the workforce, chris, the single biggest threat to our workforce in hospitals, our police force and other workers it has been covid itself. >> the sweeping mandates were announced by president biden in september and met with immediate pushback, more than half of u.s. states are suing to block the requirement. texas attorney general ken paxton said this. >> the federal government has no authority to do this. right now we have osha guidelines not been authorized by congress. they absolutely have no authority to do this. >> the biden administration insist that is they do have the authority and the justice department says they are willing to fight the fifth's circuit decision all the way. mike: steve bannon is expected to appear in federal court tomorrow. he's facing charge of criminal contempt of congress for failing to respond to subpoena for system from the select committee investigating the january 6th insurrection. >> i think this is a serious abuse of the department of justice. first of all, these are misdemeanors crimes charged with under the section that they are charging. >> if they don't fulfill lawful duty when subpoenaed they too my be prosecuted, it will have a very strong focusing effect on their decision-making. mike: former trump chief of staff mark meadows has refused to respond from a subpoena from the january 6th committee. deliberation this is week, more on that after the break. talk to a financial professional about pacific life. ♪ talk to a financial professional (vo) reflect on the past, celebrate the future. season's greetings from audi. learning about our history with ancestrydna®, inspired us to learn more about our culture and where we come from. ...right here? >> well, mike, i think that the president just got his bipartisan infrastructure passed. a lot of that is popular. so you have seen joe biden and cabinet members get out there telling the american people what's in this bill. so i think starting to tout some of those successes that are finally coming through congress but i also think that we are a country that's deeply divided and deeply polarized and faces a lot of challenges whether it's immigration you were just talking about or covid or the economy. these things didn't start with president biden and they will take a long time to fix. i think poll numbers reflect that the president often gets blamed for things because he's at the top of the government but these are much bigger structural challenges that we are facing. mike: how do you respond? matt: well, that belies history. the washington post poll has been doing similar polls for 40 years since 1980 and they've never seen such a wide positive lead for republicans heading into next year's midterm. joe biden's approval ratings are -- are in a dangerous low spot for him and, mike, i'm kind of offended because i have friends in the biden administration too and over beers or in honest conversations they are worried because much of -- they had a great idea of good will coming into the white house, they were going to bring everything back to normal, people were going to look at their government and say, it works again and the fact is that joe biden is failing on everything and marie brings up the transportation bill which is 90% social welfare spending and not transportation spending. even the republicans who voted for this bill are running away from it because they realized how unpopular government spending is when you have an inflation out of control. people like my mom on fixed income inflation is a thief in the night and americans are worried about overspending by the federal government. mike: schlapp likes some democrats, good. economy is in bad shape with 58% disapproving to have president's economic performance, how do you dig out of that, marie? >> well, we clearly are still facing a covid economy, every expert will tell you that whether it's the supply chain problems or the inflation, the root of that is this global pandemic and so as more people get vaccinated, as we start to beat back this virus and the private sector addresses the new reality of what people are buying in a covid economy and how, i think, we will over the coming months start to dig out of this but people individually, mike, many of them are doing quite well financially, look at the stock market and look at the gains people have made and look at the money people saved during the covid, look at the support the federal government is giving them. a lot of this is consumer psychology and voter psychology and a lot of what president biden is doing, whether it's building back roads and bridges, whether it's getting internet to people in rural areas, that's stuff is actually quite popular and people will show the popularity as they learn more about it. >> yeah, first of all, two-thirds of joe biden's strong approvals in the beginning of his administration, the handling of the chinese coronavirus and more people have died in the biden administration than they did in the trump administration. the forced vaccines and the mandates are causing great economic peril for the president. your reporter bill just reported about what's happening at the border where you could have a lot of border patrol agents, we have seen this in hospitals, we have seen this in schools, we have seen this in private employers, we have seen this in government employers, i've seen this with people in my own life. the supply chain problem in california is being exacerbated by this vaccine mandate, much of america a huge percentage of americans have had chinese corona and beaten it and their natural immunity is going to protect them than any chemical can and no one in the biden administration will take into account even though the cdc released letter that natural immunity is the best thing we have to defeat this. >> that's in the true. >> making everything worse that is true. i'm happy to send the letter to you. the cdc said it's your natural immunities, right, that prevent this from being past back to that person that's already faced chinese coronavirus. so these are the facts we have to start looking at the science and joe biden has to start letting individual americans make their healthcare choices. mike: i would like to squeeze one more topic real fast. here is former acting attorney matt whitaker. >> those are serious tools that law enforcement has and to stick that on parents that are merely voicing their concerns about critical race theory and other things being taught in schools should never have happened but the speed with which it happened shows that the department of justice was clearly coordinating at the time. mike: congressman jim jordan wants top leader at the national school boards association to sit for transcribed interviews writing, quote, concerned parents are absolutely not domestic parents, parents cannot tolerate collusion with nsba and the biden administration to construct a justification for invoking federal law enforcement to intimidate and silence parents. what about this issue, marie? >> well, the biden administration has been clear they would never use the domestic terrorism language. they've also been clear that these violent threats we have seen against school board members have no place in our society. no one is taking away first amendment right to have a voice in their children's education, no one at the biden administration would ever advocate for that. but we also cannot let people threaten violently our public school officials and school board members because they don't like something. that's also not acceptable. mike: matt, how do you see this one? matt: i can't believe the hypocrisy. we had violence throughout our country, our biggest cities burned down to the ground, black lives matter standing in front of the white house with the president of the united states all of our president just like joe biden is our president today, donald trump was our president then, he had to be taken into the bunker because of the violent protests where cops were killed across the country and for these democrats to now say that parents who are asking basic questions about their children including the virginia parent who was told by his school board he wasn't allowed to bring up publicly his daughter's own rape and he himself when he went to the school board, he was arrested and accused of violence. this is what's been happening and it's not about violent parents, it's about parents waking up to the disgraceful propaganda and sexualizing of their children. mike: talented panel on a sunday, thanks so much. matt: thanks. mike: singer and american idolist, more on the tragic story next. >> man: what's my safelite story?
