can't get them in the country and this is wrong. >> what is your plan now? >> i have to return to work. i will be traveling with our daughter who is 10 so we were able to get a waiver for her. i will be traveling home to get with my four other children who manage the household while my husband stays here in the country with our son and we sit and wait for this approval for us dis. >> the first thing that popped in my mind is you are trying to provide for your life here, jobs, figure that out, how are you navigating this? >> very difficult. my mother had to take off work to be with my current children at home. this is very difficult was my husband is a stay-at-home dad who does real estate part-time and i don't have him home with me to manage the household and this -- my children were settling for 5 years in the foster sister and now i have to separate them again after they are finally together, very wrong. laura: don't know the ages of all your children but are any old enough where you can talk to them about this and they understand what is going on? i have to imagine it is hard to understand when you see what is going on at the southern border versus entry points if you're coming in on a flight, hard for adults to understand how these decisions are reached but what do you think they are grasping from this? >> or two old ones are 10 and 11 was we had to explain to them what is going on and we raised them to know the truth and the word of god and this is not language in the american way. >> two children you adopted, what can you tell us about them? >> they are amazing, brother and sister, 10 and 12, the hometown of my husband, it was god that connected us to these children and they are amazing, was i to come to america, play soccer like run although, to buy world as a wealth transfer telling texas how to be prosperous is absurd, ridiculous and here is the kicker, texas is the largest oil and gas producer. it led the world in making the united states energy independent and dominant over the last decade, the united states led the world in reducing co2 emissions which the un peace purports to care about. that reason is because natural gas is replacing coal in the united states. if anything texas should be the model for the energy economy of the world with the oil and gas and economic prosperity that brings. the united nations has it exactly backwards. >> we had people and we talked to, pipeline workers and different folks like that and they said we are making improvements to be able to make what we are doing better for the environment with green energy and things like that. is in that the way to go? >> first of all there's nothing wrong with trying to do wind and solar, the problem is when governments get involved in these policies, there trying to ban energy now, oil, gas, fossil fuels and mandate wind and solar take over. wind and solar, 4% combined of the us energy production. to make it replace fossil fuels by 2060 is government fantasy at the moment. however texas by trying to limit their fossil fuel all you're going to do when any developed country, western europe or the united states start limiting our energy all that means is we outsource it to countries that don't have the same environmental standards as the united states, as europe and particularly texas, we will outsource energy to the middle east as the biden administration is taking opec to increase, russian oil imports 11 your high. we want domestic environmental standards, american energy and texas governor toldtheunto sand with their of thinking any harm enabling centers. put yourself in the shoes of a drug addict and we are not talking marijuana here but hard-core illicit drugs, heroin, methamphetamines, you are a hard-core drug user and you can show up and they will give you a bed, a pillow, a blanket, test your drugs to make sure you are not going to overdose, there's no fentanyl in them, you get to inject with this illicit drug, they watch over you. if you start having problems there's medical assistance for you. in addition to that they hook you into the social safety network so you get food, housing, medical attention, even a phone. there is no reason to go through this torturous effort of getting off of drugs, leaving your addiction. it enables drug addiction to continue. i don't want anybody to die and we know there has been a 30% spike in drug overdoses, drug deaths since the pandemic began. nobody wants that to continue but i also don't want people to be addicted for their entire life. that is harmful too. todd: 96,779 overdose deaths from march of 2020 of 2022 march of this year, 30% increase in rhode island, 405 deaths during the same time period, that is a 24% increase. getting to your earlier answer, at its core, taxpayers paying for enabling lifestyle of an acts instead of getting them the treatment they need so they are no longer addicts? >> they talked about this bill when it was passed we brought that up, who is paying for this and they said it would be charitable deductions but now i read their looking to put it on medicaid, trying to get medicaid to reimburse them and pay for the drug reimbursement center. that is taxpayers then. not only are we paying for food, housing and services but also paying for the harm enabling center as well so taxpayers are putting the bill, 30% of the people on medicaid, we spend a lot on medicaid. we don't need this to be a magnet for every person who has an addiction problem in our region to come to rhode island and get on our medicaid service. todd: this is creating a market for drug dealers around these senders. do you share that fear? >> i do. one of the aspects of this is that if you are a drug addict using illegal drugs you have to purchase the drugs yourself and bring them in. if you are drug dealer and you knew that law enforcement was not allowed in this area. this cone of protection from law enforcement, where would you set up? you set up close to wherever the center is because you know those addicts will come out, they will need to buy another product from you so you are going to set up in that neighborhood. one of our representatives at the time this was being debated said i don't want this in my neighborhood, don't you dare bring this into my neighborhood. who knows where there is going to be in your neighborhood or not or in any neighborhood. it is bad policy. this doesn't reduce harm. it enables more on. todd: it is creating an artificial market of illegality in the state of rhode
