and expected to arrive at the southern border in the next few weeks. marsha blackburn visited the border and will join us to react all of this in a few moments but we begin with bill melugin live on the border and locally in texas, what is the latest. >> the border agent that we talk to on the ground are incredibly frustrated, not only is a boardwalk contracts being canceled but the administration has not changed strategy in the last seven months so the migrants keep coming in who benefits the most the human smugglers, take a look at this video last night, the texas state troopers as they scan the highways for human smugglers, they are all over the place, if we look at the video of people being arrested, what these troopers do they look for load vehicles that the vehicles that they see driving on the road and have their frames really low suggesting human cargo, they pulled them over as human smugglers and was illegal immigrants across the border trying to get everything and then to the united states in the human smugglers pick them up and take them to cities like houston and if the texas state troopers were on the roads it would be a free-for-all essentially. we went to the dhs contracts, take a look at this video are drawn team shot yesterday, dhs officially saying they are canceling all remaining a boardwalk contracts for the border walls in the rio grande valley in laredo. what you are looking at are the pylons that were never put into the ground the border wall in the joya texas one of the biggest hotspots in the rio grande valley, only a half-mile was built while wall construction halted in january as president biden took over we have piles of metal already paid for by the taxpayers, that is resting in the sun, there is never going to be anything done in the border agents that we talk to incredibly frustrated because they need these walls out here because this is a hotspot area, they have to deal with runners all the time in the walls create chokepoints, right now it is basically a free-for-all in la jolla. take a listen to former border patrol chief ron, he was also the head of vice, he says these walls are incredibly effective and is making the border agents job harder without having them. >> they know full well when they have a wall they can operate safely and control the border better for themselves in the operation but also for the border communities and the larger homeland security. >> what we noticed in recent weeks at the rio grande valley, lumbar criminal elements. what we used to see was mostly family units. into their little kids, voluntarily giving themselves up to border patrol. now we see runners all over the place people hiding in the brush and do not want to be caught. this week alone in the rio grande valley multiple members of the gulf cartel were apprehended after the cross illegally multiple members of ms 13 were caught, sex predators, child rapist, they are finding it these people are trying to come across, they are criminals trying to find their way and the question is how many end up getting away because border patrol cannot be everywhere at once. i'll send it back to you. jillian: a lot to break down in that report, thank you. as you saw in his report, the border patrol is completely overwhelmed with the migrate surge, the numbers tell the story, more than 1.5 million migrants had been encountered at the southern border in fiscal year 2021, the highest total and more than two decades. tennessee republican senator marsha blackburn spent time over the weekend at the border and see the crisis firsthand in speaking with local officials. senator blackburn joins me now. thank you for being here, there is a lot to talk about. bill hit on a number of important issues, i want to talk about the exhaustion that are border patrol agents are dealing with and what they're up against. how long do you think this could be sustained? >> we have to get this under control, you are right, the border patrol want to do the job, they are there to enforce the law, they know that the cartel fear the rule of law but they do not fear the biden of administration, right now the border patrol are depending on texas, department of public safety to do the work that bill was just talking about in his report, to get the criminal elements out of texas into apprehend these individuals. what you are seeing is an uptick, they have apprehended 1.1 million people in texas this year, that does not include the got a ways, what you will see is the border patrol moved to the area to handle the migrate families or the children that are traveling alone, in the criminal elements of drug runners, sex traffickers, the smugglers that do not want to be caught, they go the other direction this is a humanitarian crisis, healthcare crisis and it is a national security crisis. this is why you need to have this administration and the borders vice president harris started to pay attention to securing the southern border in getting the situation under control. jillian: and securing the southern border and we haven't seen the president go down there and make a visit, we have seen anthony blinken among others going to other areas to talk about the root causes including mexico city on friday. take a listen to what he has to say. >> i think mexico and the united states believe strongly that you have to have a stronger approach to the challenge. there has to be a greater sense integrator practical application to share responsibility into our countries working together to do that. jillian: i know when you are down there you talk to border patrol different law enforcement different areas and you talk to ranchers and people who live along the border, what are you seeing and others who made the trip there that some of the administration are seen by not going to visit? >> when they go, vice president harris went to the wrong address when she went to the border, she did not go out with the border patrol and local law enforcement or go out on a rant and talk to people that are landowners. what they are seeing is migrants who are coming across their property but bear in mind the cartels are the ones that get people to the waters edge. they are the ones that are benefiting and making money off of this, then they are turning people over to the border patrol to process and send across the country. basically what is happening with the human smuggling and human trafficking, the federal government the u.s. taxpayer is finishing the job the cartel charges every single person they have to pay the cartel to get them there and pay a tax they know the u.s. government will pick them up on u.s. soil and the taxpayer will pay for the plane ticket and they will pay for the bus ticket and they will pay for the benefits, the closing those shelters, the childcare, the healthcare services that those individuals need. and then many of these individuals have to work, then they become basically modern day slavery and practice because weathered trafficking, labor gangs, or ms 13 gangs, texas encountered 88 different gangs and these people have to work it out, it is truly a humanitarian crisis and building that wall, putting remained in mexico back in place, putting technology out there, the biden administration is actually canceling contracts, they are removing technology that the border patrol needs, they are making not only this country less safe, they are making the entire world less safe because of their practices. jillian: you led me into my final question we only have a few seconds left i think it's important to expand upon this you mentioned dhs canceling the contract and bill melugin's report you just saw all of the equipment sitting there the equipment that has paid for by taxpayers sitting there, how does any of this makes sense. >> it does not make sense. especially when you know previously when he was in the u.s. senate, joe biden supported having a wall. the border patrol for 30 years, they have said they need the wall, president donald trump move forward giving them that wall and i cannot tell you the number of times that i heard from farmers and ranchers, landowners, citizens, local law enforcement, border patrol, texas highway patrol, everybody said build the wall, stops people from riding across the border, is close down the human smugglers, it allows border patrol to do the job. jillian: tennessee senator marsha blackburn, fresh off her trip visiting the border, thinking for joining us. have a great night. now to this, president biden urging democrats in congress to unite as his signature piece of legislation hanging from the balance, moderates and progressives have been unable to agree on a price check for weeks biden says the party needs to get on the same page heading into the 2022 midterm which are quickly approaching, mark meredith is live with the latest. >> good evening democrats close to the president the bill back better agenda will make its way out of congress eventually, negotiations moderate progressives keep dragging on. this week and the president had a chance to address democrats virtually for a dnc fall meeting and he basically said they had to get on the same page of the good have to be united if they're going to have any chance at next year's midterm election. democrats remain divided, democrats split about how much to spend on the two massive spending bills, the bipartisan infrastructure deal in the human infrastructure and the lawmakers hit the airway to insist in recent headlines may suggest. >> we are getting closer to an agreement and we have the next month to get it done. >> i think the ultimate price will be $2 trillion, it is the policy that really matter and as a caucus we agree on those. >> it is unclear if the $2 trillion will be enough to win over progressives, they said they will not be able to support the legislation if it doesn't address their wish list, the speaker assessed by the end of this month we've seen deadlines, go before and one senator indicated it could drag on until the end of the year, all the party infighting is impacting president biden at the polls, a new survey out last week indicates where he stands with the american people, a majority of americans disapproving of the way he's doing his job performance and we've been watching to see how this will impact democrats nationally, the white house insist is not focused on poles day-to-day but the numbers are impacting one specific race in the man running for governor in virginia, he told his supporters that the president's low approval rating are hurting his chances of getting his old job back and with his campaign with the president earlier this summer tried to smooth things over tried to smooth things over with his own party. >> i'm a very straight shooter and very authentic and i call it the way i see it and that's why people like working with me i'm very straight. we have frustration with washington. >> republicans say his frustration would be with democrats and not just washington as a whole because the democrats control the house, the senate and the white house will be looking to see if the president may go to virginia to with mcauliffe between now and election day. nothing on his cspan schedule per week pectin to go to d.c. tomorrow. jillian: as you know it's always something to keep a eye on. thank you. as the justice department looks to combat what it calls threats against violence of school officials and teachers, new information about a potential conflict of interest involving merrick garland son-in-law whose education company some gop lawmakers support vertical race theory. here are the details. >> the attorney general has been accused of seeking to silence parents and take on critics who are doing it for his own family. last week ag merrick garland wanted to deploy federal law enforcement to interesting mayoral contest. jillian: thank you very much. let's bring in entrepreneur and author of woke inc., good to see you. my first question if we are a country without the opportunity for excellence then what are we? >> a pursuit of excellence is one of the things that defines what it means to the american we have lost that in this moment it's not about what's happening in new york city i'm glad eric adams is stepping up and expressing reluctance about his policy but this is a symptom of a deeper cancer in our country we had a new culture that penalizes excellence and rewards mediocrity and celebrates victimhood, the animal spirit out of americans heart has been domesticated and tamed by the new former culture that will accelerate, our old excellence has traveled oceans to look to places like china all the while leaving america with the deep cultural and moral void, that is a big part of what americans hunger for when americans rally by the christ to make america great again i don't think they hunger for donald trump i think they hungered for the unapologetic pursuit of excellence itself instead what we see in the last five years is a greater attack on excellence of culture, as a part of our culture that lifts up people of every race rather than bringing down people. jillian: i think a lot of people agree with you let's take you look at the wall street journal editorial add, bill de blasio parting gift, is says achievement is not the problem with newark schools, failure is according to the latest scores from the national assessment of educational progress only 10% of new york city black eighth-graders are proficient in math and 14% reading, if that's the case isn't the answer to help the students excel? >> exactly this is a great way for the managerial class to insulate themselves for accountability by claiming the gifted and talented programs are resulting in equity when it's their own failures in the schools that are helping not only black and hispanic kids but all children to perform more poorly than they otherwise would standardized testing is ridiculed as racist talking about exceptionalism is now considered, i think we need to be unapologetic to recognize the fact that the pursuit of excellence is part of what it divines to be american not only in our generation but amongst the next generation of americans and use that to lift everybody up, i think this is a great way for teachers to escape accountability but we should see through that for what it is and recognize we cannot sacrifice the pursuit of excellence at the altar of diversity or equity or inclusion or any other that tries to sacrifice the true value all about. jillian: just to pull up saturday's new york post cover is a stolen dreams and you see at the top all kids cannot excel non-well, there's something to be said when you yourself see other people doing well a lot of us drive something where it makes us want to work harder and be better, without that then you wonder if the drive is going to be there. let's move onto this topic for a second before we let you go, this is a big deal a lot of people are talking about an education company cofounded by merrick garland son-in-law a resource for teachers that claim supporters of former president donald trump are white supremacist, this workshop by this country released was by panorama education, panorama says it's not connected to crt and not a tool for teaching crt but it does make you question the timing of this is the effort from merrick garland in the justice department to combat what is said in the increasing threats of violence against school officials and teachers across the country. it makes you wonder if there is a conflict of interest, where do stand on this. >> i think that is the cherry on top, even irrespective of the story of his son running a company that peddles the nonsense, let's put that to one side and recognize the essence of what he said he was going to do, d.o.j. investigation including the fbi into parents who are ultimately protesting the curriculum at schools that they were upset about, we should want parents engaged in the process, of course it stands for violence and that's what local police are for in the political statement that they want us to get the fbi involved that is an intimidation tactic against parents of what's being taught in the school. that's after the managerial and education as well teachers when insulate themselves with accountability part of the reason the d.o.j. said were pursuing the course of action is because school boards complete the d.o.j. of alleged threats it's a smokescreen to hide the fact that the schools are failing our children, our teachers unions are failing our children in the mechanism for holding them accountable school board is holding them accountable in a way that makes them uncomfortable. , we have a two way marriage between big government and the one hand and the managerial class in our schools conspiring to lead both parents and her children but i will tell you the use of state police power to silence political opposition from accountability, that is something that would make our founding fathers shutter, it is a constitutional event and the fact that merrick garland, the leader of this effort actually has a son who is a vested financial interest in perpetuating and fuses a whole new meaning into the military industrial complex as applied to this domestic issue. jillian: that is certainly something we will continue to monitor, author of woke inc., thank you for joining
