5 dead bodies connected to one family. >> it does, we don't like coincidences that is way too many. nancy: what about the blood found on and around the bodies? if the flood were dried that would be an indicate or of how long they were their, if the blood of the not dry at all, or just beginning to coagco ag late. >> those are estimates, thea. the ambient temperature, they all must be taken to consideration to determine how long the blood could have stayed fluid or not fluid. nancy: what would you expect the condition of the blood to be if they were dead only 30 minutes. >> somewhat coag lated but not dry. >> stick to the touch. >> right. nancy: what time do you think they were murdered. >> between 9:30 10:00ish. >> he called and said mage and paul were dead, and the sheriff department were first on scene, they turned it over to sled because of their connection with murdaugh family. nancy: what connection is that. >> you are in law enforcement, you are connected to murdaugh. for 80 something years of solicitors and prosecutors and alex was volunteering in the prosecutor office. nancy: alex also ran a law firm. >> the biggest in the area unite of murders, he visited his mother in the hospital, took his father to the hospital, his father died a few days later. nancy: how do i know, alex murdaugh did not go to the hospital, come home, shoot them dead call 911, his call is convincing but he is a lawyer. he knows what 911 calls should in a perfect world sound like, how do i know he is not faking because of the scientific evidence or how do i know he didn't shoot them first, then go to the hospital, then come back and find the bodies? that is quite a window, 30 minutes. before alex murdaugh gets on scene, they are shot, he gets there 30 short minutes later. that is quite the timing. >> it is. and other interesting thing, is that this is a small rural community, everyone knows everyone. a miscellaneous or unfamiliar vehicle would have been known or seen by someone, no one heard anything. nancy: what you can tell me about paul murdaugh's gunshot wounds. >> i understand he was the shot with a shotgun, that does major damage to a body. nancy: in my mind, who would shoot with a shotgun? now. i'm telling you right now, this is based on statistics, method of assessment that a male did the killing. and in this manner, shot multiple times to the head and the face. doctor, do you believe that paul murdaugh was shot anywhere else. >> no. nancy: the chest or head. >> well yes, the chest. nancy: do you believe entry wound was front to back. >> it was front to back. nancy: that tells you. >> it was close. it was targeted this person was intended to be the person shot, they probably knew each other. nancy: of thousand of cases i have investigated a burglary, a robber or intruder, once they are discovered, if they can, they will just leave. that makes me deduce no one was there burglarize or steal or second assault to -- sex assault to me they were there to kill. >> mother of shot with a high powered rifle. it goes in smooth but comes out explosive and expansive. shot multiple times with that, that is a devastating wound. we know one of the guns came from murdaugh hunting long. >> if that is true, the killer would have to go into the home, get the gun, i assume out of the gun cabinet, i assume would be locked. without any evidence of forced entry. come back and shoot and then make all with the gun? >> i would assume so, i don't know. nancy: they could not see that, young adults were drinking getting on to a boat. >> from what i understand, they were asked not to leave, but they left anyway. nancy: what do you do with a guy like paul murdaugh, drunk, you are physically restraining him. >> right, not much. my understand they left there. nancy: i understand they stopped get more alcohol. after or after. >> they stopped downtown to visit a bar. two went in. the rest stayed on the dock from what i understand. that is what security footage. nancy: did they get alcohol in the bar. >> video footage would appear so. >> they were dispatched to a boat that struck the bridge, one person in the water missing. nancy: driving a thick object. >> not a good scenario. we have one person in the water, we launched 3 boats that morning, one was air board. and airboat was first on scene. the tide of so low, you can't tell now that morning tide was really low. it was not a lot of water to work with. we made to the bridge as fast as we could. with the conditions we had that night. nancy: what were conditions. >> we came up here, started a bridge search, we knew that tide was going out. nancy: you know, i have a lot of bridge searches by land. -- grid search by land but never taken a grid search by water. how do you do that. >> by gps. there are different types we did a block grid search, up, down, left, right, top of the creek, we did this out of the boat running side screen sonar on the body, to search on the bottom for objects. on broad river, a mile from the bridge. the tide was going out. nancy: looking for a person. >> we knew a female in the water. we had no idea -- >> of anything. >> all we know 6 people onboard could one missing. 5 accounted for, we don't know the age or who it is. we know we have someone out, important thing for us to get here as fast as we can, a crew change. we took a break, we took a crew change about noon the next day. we came back out and searched every day for a week after that. we expanded search, as days went on, longer period you have the farther someone will travel. nancy: where was mallory's body found? mallory's boyfriend, he refused to go, he had a messed up shoulder, they go to the hospital. and paul murdaugh's father and grandfather show up with then about i believe 10 minutes after they get there. and are trying to control the scene. they are making sure paul does not talk, tell the other boaters by multiple reports of people in hospital, telling out of the the kids to not talk. at the hospital, from reports from nurses and security, security had to be called. paul murdaugh's father, alex shows up, his grandfather, randolph shows up, paul's dad, tells paul, don't say anything, when the nurses ask questions, he said he is not talking here, catches conor on the way to get his c-- ct scan and tells cop conor not to talk, and he gets in miley's room and morgan's room, the nurses say that morgan is skittish about alex there, and paul comes out of his room, they call security, they tell alex we're trying to fix people, paul comes out of his room. and they have to drag him, paul is obnoxious. nancy: what do you mean. >> a nurse said she wanted a urine sample. he said only if you hold it and mentioned his buttock in an inappropriate manner. >> hospital. >> took blood. as they do in most cases. nancy: and. >> it was 3 times legal limit. nancy: i think. >> what significant to you tie to fact that paul and maggie murdaugh were murdered about 72 hours before the civil trial was connection? >> steven was classmates with buster and paul, closer with buster, paul's dad was the coach. nancy: steven smith a case has been reopen since maggie and paul murdaugh were killed why. >>
